[Q] Sprint Hotspot APK for unrooted 2.3 Evo - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just received my replacement Evo from Sprint and it's on 2.3. Can someone link the file for me? Thanks

smh... its in the settings on the phone.
go to menu->wireless settings->sprint hotspot
but unless you have it added to your plan and are paying $30 a month for it it wont work. and since you arent rooted you cant use any of the wireless tether apps from the market. so you will have to wait for root or pay. your choice. hope that helps

Use can use easy tether or pdanet to hook up via usb, but that's about it.
They are free, but you have to pay to visit secured sites.
Well I know you have to pay for pdanet, not sure about easy tether

On easy tether you have to pay but there's a key gen that will give you the code to unlock it free

Thanks to the OP for asking this as i my gf is upgrading tomorrow to the EVO and i didnt know about the "no-root" issue....so there is NO way to get wireless tether? That was on of the biggest perks to her as she isnt into technology a lot but likes how i could use my 3g connection to give wifi to her ipod...thanks for the help.

Not really a good app for free teathering until someone can manage to root or unlock the bootloader. I always have left my bootloader,s-off,for very similiar reasons. Good luck.

I loaded an app called foxfi on my verizon phones and it works perfect for wireless tether(unrooted) but on my employees sprint phone, it doesn't come up in the market. I even tried to "bump" the app over. What I did notice is Verizon phones call it "Play Store " and is no longer "Market" as the evo has.
Anyone know of a good app?

Search for a thread called "4.67 collection" by Tommytommatoe they have all of the mods for 4.67 available.

USB 4G Tether

Wanted to share this with anyone who isn't aware. We can tether our ET4G on 4G but it requires USB and a 3rd party app. I tested it tonight with the free version of EasyTether and it works like a charm. Not personally interested in spending $10 for the full app but to some it may be worth it.
I haven't tested Klink but it's only $4 and it may work as well as a cheaper alternative.

Sweet, checking that out now. I see the free version doesn't allow https. I'll have to download the app to see how much the full version costs because I don't see it listed in the market.
To use these tethering method doesn't required the phone to be rooted, right? Also, will I be charged if I try to use it and can sprint figure out that I am tethering for free? I don't want to get a bill for hundreds or even thousands of dollars. How safe it is to tether undetected and are lots of people doing it for free with no penalty? I would like to tether for free but am just too afraid of getting caught and charged for it.
To be honest with you I used to have AT&T and now I have sprint and i've never once got a txt or anything in the mail telling me to stop. On AT&T I was running Cyanogen Mod and on my ET4G i'm running Calkulin's which has NoCIQ. If you aren't familiar with NoCIQ it basically makes it so sprint can't tell how your phone is using the data.
I wouldn't trust tethering if you're running a stock rom, even if the dev of the software says it's safe.

I think you might want to quantify your statement regarding NoCIQ. I've yet to see any published report from any reliable source showing it being used for data measurement. All a carrier has to do is look for unusual spikes in data volume.

I've had an android on sprint for almost 2 years now, always rooted, always tethering, always stock rom. Ciq still on there. They have never told me anything. And I always use 3rd party apps for tethering. I honestly don't think they know/care. At the end of the day, it works for the most of us, and we don't really abuse it; thus, they really shouldn't have a problem with it. They're bull**** hot spot app from sprint is ridiculously slow anyway. There's a huge difference in speed... its almost like they want us to find our own way of tethering lol.
That's my rationale and I'm sticking to it.

You may be right.. but they would have to prove what is using the data.. I have a torrent app on my phone I download stuff with and that uses a ton of data with out being tethered.

I've been using Wireless Tether for Root Users, it's free and works with 4G. I'm new to the 4G scene, having recently upgraded from a CDMA Hero but I've used it for years without problem. The only downside to it is it will read as an adhoc network.

What do you use for tethering?

Just got my T-mo GSIII, and just wanted to see what wireless tethering apps work, if any. I need something to keep me until AOSP roms come to the US GSIII. I'm going away for 2 weeks today, and desperately need internet access for my laptop, but find the fees for tethering rediculous.
Once rooted I use wifi tether from the market, works great.
Try Foxfi it works pretty good

Easy peasey lemon sqeezey.
Wow, Sprint blocked this from the market on my phone and on the desktop it states Foxfi is not available on your carrier. Foxfi does provide an external link though, thumbs up for them.
Not working on Verizon?
First the encrypted boot loader, now no wifi tethering? Really regretting my preorder now, might have to refuse shipment on this and continue to use my Thunderbolt w/ unlimited data and tethering for free

Try using the Market Access app. It will spoof your carrier so you can access the apps available on the market from TMobile or AT&T.

Help. Tmobile Galaxy S3 wifi tether not conecting with ipod.

Hello guys hope any body around here can give any idea how to solve this problem.
I have a root stock samsung galaxy s3 with tmobile with 2 year contract also unlimited data, but i dont want to pay for the wifi tether. my problem is when my daughter wants to connect her 4generation ipod with my phone she cant. i try every app on play store but nothing. What can i do. Also if i found one app that work and she see the wifi when she try to connect it said unable to join network.
Get wifi teather on the app market and go to setting and change the device profile to galaxy nexus gsm and should work fine write back of u got problems

Wifi tether creates an "ad hoc" connection. I doubt apple even knows what that is, let alone supports it. You're better off looking for a hack for the movie hot spot app. Gl

Funny..I came in here to ask the same thing. Wifitether works but it doesn't broadcast the SSID properly. Not even by typing the name in manually can you connect. So, no...it doesn't work in JB. But I also would like tether to work.
I tried all afternoon with many different apps to get some sort of tether working, and was unsuccessful with anything other than "Klink Tether" which is a paid app in the Play store. It is a USB tether and it works very well. Highly recommended.
Cm10. Wifi tether worked on my gs3 if I remember correctly.
Which cm10 won't be too much longer for an alpha for us.

Yes.
Or someone mentioned BT tethering with different app. I don't know since I don't use it.
EasyTether works. It's a $10 app, but there is a free version. Free version blocks all https websites, however.
Just to be clear, this is a USB tether. I don't know of any hotspot hacks yet.
EasyTether also requires a program running on your computer.

II think it used to be cheaper. I don't remember how much I paid. I think it's worth it though. Besides... not so many other options at this time and still much less than one month paying for official hotspot.
You know whats funny....(not really) is while at the Sprint store, every phone that was being sold, the salesperson said. You do understand that illegally tethering will get your contract cancelled, do you understands? .
Asked me too and I was like, huh, tethering, I just go to Starbucks :silly:? (hoping he wouldn't hit the big fat tethering button on my home screen (old phone) he was holding. whoops....
I wonder how exactly can they detect someone tethering?
It's a violation of your contract, so yeah, they "reserve the right to terminate". Same can be said for a lot of things that happen on this forum. Just don't abuse it and they won't bother you.

I don't think any AOSP Roms have the data cap hack. Most of the TW Roms have the hack baked into the system. You may wanna try TW before going over your data limit. I have unlimited and use tethering all the time also I use the Wi-Fi tether app instead of the native hot spot.

So I am stuck @ 2.5gb? I called TMobil to increase my tethering, they said NO.
I see people all over the forums saying they have unlimited tethering by hiding their data usage and they always emphasize not to abuse it. I am giving tmobil a good large sum of money, 200 bucks.
So nobody knows of a unlimited tethering method?
Been looking around, according to some, Cyanogen should already come with the necessary coding to allow unlimited tethering but than again I am using SlimBean which I do not know if that has anything to do with it.

Again, unlimited tethering is impossible through "coding." It is handled by T-Mobile servers. A little Googling would tell you what you have to do however, I always thought if you paid 15 bucks extra each month they would include unlimited tethering?

OK, I am an admitted noob to this site, just joined today in fact, but that is only because I have been trolling these forums looking for a clear answer to this issue for weeks now. I also have TM and am capped. I use my mobile hot spot to do my homework for the online school I attend. and recently switched from the big V to TM because of the cost, and now I'm screwed. I have searched so many forums and term strings it is not funny. I have tried vpn, hotspot shield, private internet access, and a host of wifi tether apps, and have not found a working combo. I have even tried modifying strings using SQLite. Most app combinations will not activate hotspot, and those that do cause laptop browser to redirect to t-mobile sale page. I will beat them... I will. But I joined xda for a little help, if you anyone does not wish to give the easy answer, I absolutely understand, just please direct me to the forum that has solved this as I am not "yet" a dev, but I'm getting there.

I've found that when I search and search and can't find something, it's because it was so fundamental a feature that it is automatically assumed people know how to use it.
What evidence do you have that T-Mobile is blocking your tethering after 2.5gb? Others have asked but it doesn't seem like that question has been answered. I have CM11 and have tethered like a fiend using the ROM's built-in hotspot feature, which the stock T-Mobile Account app doesn't even pick up on. Additionally I've been told that after 2.5gb, they don't block you, just throttle your speed down.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
I use User Agent Switcher addon for firefox and choose Googlebot under Search Robots. I never get throttled using this method, although some site are wonky like netflix.
Well, apparently I did not try enough software combinations. I have finally got it working using Hotspot Shield free, paired with WiFi Tether Router. My GS4 is only about 3 weeks old, so this is likely the newest solution.

Running AOSP, can we just use the native tethering (works great for me but then again i believe im still within the 2.5 gb of allotted tethering) or do we need to use the user agent switcher method?
Well since you guys are on the right track
You have a couple options:
1. (Prolly the best) Purchase or use a free VPN client ON YOUR DEVICE to encrypt ALL your data, now T-Mobile can't detect what the data is, its just data.
2. Use a User Agent switcher to change your user agent so it looks like the data is coming from a mobile device instead of a computer.
I wanna tether to my Ps3, I would like to know if it is possible to hide tethering as well. Tmobile is capped at 2.5, I found a way to do it on my Note 3, but my Ps3 wont connect that way, it only sees my S4, but like I said, its reached its cap limit.

I've always used wifi tether from here http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list you just have to chose the right settings and it works perfectly. I use it on my 360 all the time.
