Having problems with A2DP? I can help.

A couple nights ago, I was intent on getting my A2DP to work perfectly. I wanted clear, crisp, skip free music coming from my phone. Using this method, I have done just that. I'm not 100% sure all of the steps I'm including are necessary, but I've done this twice and it worked perfectly both times. Here goes!

1. Navigate to "LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/A2DP/Settings" in the registry.
2. Set BitPool to 48, MaxSupportedBitPool to 56, and Use Joint Stereo to 0.
3. Exit, soft reset
4. Tell me if it works well for you or not...
Long but guaranteed way
1. Download HTweakC, install
2. Go to bluetooth tweaks, set audio quality as "Excellent"
3. Install Sleuth255's A2DP Fix cab then soft reset
[By this point, the A2DP is crackly and may skip...so continue]
4. With the registry editor of your choice, navigate to the following:
LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/A2DP/Settings
5. Change the value of "Bitpool" to 56
6. Change the value of MaxsupportedBitPool to 56
7. Change "Use Joint Stereo" to 1
8. Soft Reset
9. Uninstall Slueth's A2DP fix
10. Soft Reset
11. Once again, open HTweakC
12. Change the A2DP quality to "High"
13. Soft reset
14. Enjoy crystal clear, skip free streaming music.
Also, if anyone can help me with an issue I've been having...Is there a quick way to set a pair of bluetooth headphones to automatically set itself as as wireless stereo without applying it each time in bluetooth options? I have a pair of BT620's if that makes any difference.
And
Is there a way to have WMP startup with my storage card's library by default? If not, is there a way to delete the library from My device?

I have now done exactly as the "long" way said, and it did not take away the hizzing sound, (not with my plantronics pulsar 260 anyway)
so it is back to the drawing board!

Hi, I just got my X01HT last week. May I ask which Windows Media/MP3 player program are you using to listen with stereo bluetooth?? I can't find the function in Windows media Player.

You can not use the function of stereo bluetooth on the default OS of X01HT.
In this case, you must apply cab files for the A2DP function or install WM6.

Using WMP...I've tested this 3 times on my phone now after 3 different flashes and it worked each time.

I don't see any logic for the steps 9-14?? Maby you soft reset to quickly or didn't save registry values properly. I usually wait a little the use the powerbutton to close down phone.
Step 5-6 I set to 52 (decimal!) and sound is great on HBH-SD970 and skipping never happens as long as there's not an object between the phone and headset. I'm running Black 2.5 on a Tytn.
Regarding the problem with the BT620, this seem to be ralated to that headset, I don't have that problem with HBH-SD970. Maby there is some firmware upgrade for your headset?

I think the stereo thing has to do with your headset also since my BT8010 works correctly also..

I concur Jompao, no problems with HBH-DS970's... no hiss and clicks nearly eliminated with Custel's latest 1236 build v1.2. Also sound with this latest release seems louder than the previous 968 builds. Save some battery power on my DS970's... sweet!

I followed the "long steps" and it doesn't work for me. I am using Samsung WEP200.

doesn't work on mt 8525. It just makes the skips worst!!!!!!

the new lwsv rom is quite intresting seen from a a2dp level, it made my headset work almost as good as widcomm stack, although with the advantages of ms stack !

Hi just to let you know "your way" - works BUT only if you DONT remove sleuth's fix - take it out and its all miss and no hits but leave it runnin and its gr8 .

I have perfect stereo sound! It's all in the BT headsets you use.
I use the Nokia HS-12W and HTC BH S100 and the sound is as good as it gets. NO BACKGROUND NOISE AT ALL.
It's about matching the A2DP specs of the headsets to the M$ software, and not the other way around.
My opinion only, for what it's worth.

Can anyone explain what the values of MaxsupportedBitPool and BitPool stand for? Are they kbps or decibles or something else? I understand changing the UseJointStereo to 0 turns off Joint Stereo, but i want to know what the BitPool stands for.
I have a Motorola HT820 and can play music through it with no problems. I changed the 2 bitpool settings to 48. This definately improved the quality, but occasionally it skips (very rarely). So are these higher numbers causing too much data to stream and you get a "buffer" type pause.
Also if I convert back to Joint Stereo, will that cause 1/2 of the data stream, since its basically mono. If I could stream at 96 kbps in mono, compared to 48 kbps in stereo, I would choose the mono. Mainly because of the sounds of the high frequencies. The bass and mids sounds great.
On a side note I found that turning my phone's and windows media players volume all the way up improves the sound. I use the volume controls on the HT820 to control volume.

Ok, I didn't get very far with this fix...
I downloaded and installed HTweakC, but when I run it I get an error; HTweakC.exe "Argument out of range Exception". I am assuming that the bluetooth tweaks are in this proggy?
I also tried the shortcut way, but I don't have "LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/A2DP/Settings" in the registry.
WTF did I do wrong here??

Ok, One more thing...
I just went to my vehicle to play around some more and I found that when I have the BT stereo playing and a call comes in, the stereo is paused until the call is done and when it starts back up I either have no sound at all or it's skipping badly, but I went to the bluetooth device settings and held the click for the sub menu and then selected Set as wireless stereo, the audio straightened out and started playing fine again.
Could this mean the processor is too slow in the Wizard? Maybe if I overclocked it a bit that might help or am I just doomed to never have this work correctly?

A2DP is sounding scratchy

I'm a new user with an Excalibur which I bought second hand the other day and generally am fairly impressed with. I have had it unlocked and bought a 4Gb microSDHC Card and upgraded to 6.1 using Kavana's ROM remade by Ricky.
I do have one small problem though, the A2DP is sounding scratchy whenever I use it to play music. It's not like an interference scratchy, but the highs of the music sound clipped and very scratchy, especially noticable at the higher volumes which I am having to use because the volume also does not go especially high, but it's present but softer at the lower volume levels.
I'm using Coreplayer but have the same experience with WMP or in fact any audio application I use. The files are fairly good 320kbps encodes in MP3 and AAC which sound excellent on the computer and I have tried a variety of files as well as some Youtube streams, all with the same results.
The headset is a Sony Ericsson DS-200 which is the dongle type headset where you can plug in your own headphones. The headset and headphones combination again sounds excellent when paired with a Sony Bluetooth walkman and an old SE mobile phone with A2DP.
I'm guessing it might be drivers, or something? I have ordered a wired headphone adaptor but would really like to use A2DP if possible.
Finally, if this is fixable, is there any way to boost the volume? My headset does not have a volume control, but the Coreplayer etc. volume control adjusts the volume - it just doesn't go very high and I can imagine it wouldn't drown out, for instance, public transport noise.

and tweaked the registry settings and it's sounding considerably better now. Unfortunately it seems to have introduced a bug where the wireless stereo headset icon no longer appears, all that appears is the standard headset icon (the one with the microphone on it) but A2DP is working so I can live with that!

Tweaking Bluetooth Stereo settings?

I tried pairing up my Sony DS-980 stereo bluetooth headset with my Touch Pro 2. That worked flawlessly. I find the new bluetooth interface to be quite good. It has lots of fancy settings in a nice GUI.
BUT
When listening to music, the sound through my headset isn't very good. It sounds compressed and.. mediocre. I know it's not the headset, as it worked fine on my HTC P4350 (after some tweaking in the bitpool, that is).
I used to use Advanced Config for tweaking the bluetooth stereo settings. Apparently our Pro2 uses a new bluetooth stack which is not (yet) configurable through that program. I then tried searching for ways to edit the equivalent of the bitpool for our tp2's widcomm bluetooth stack. An old thread on xda stated 'Line Speed' to be the new 'bitpool' name. But that string is not in my registry. I might try adding it, but I doubt if that will work.
I also found 'Baudrate' as a candidate. but it's set to 4.000.000. That's quite high, in my idea.
Before I mess up my registry with 'playing around', does anyone know what else I can try? And am I the only one experiencing poor sound quality through stereo bluetooth?

I have not dug through to find ASDP settings, no time at the moment.
Please post back if you find it or not so that I can add them to the tweaks sticky.
Not sure if you have tried this or not, but with my car kit (which support HFP, A2DP and AVRCP I have to activate Stereo Audio on the Rhodium in BT Config, perhaps your headset behaves the same. If I do not audio is ****.

OK, I think I got it. The Linespeed value does indeed seem to have an effect. I used this wiki as a guide:

I used Resco Explorer Registry add-in to add the following DWORD value:
HKLM\Software\WIDCOMM\Plugin\AV\LineSpeed with a value of 320
That seems to do the trick. I'll test it for a bit, but I'm not experiencing drop-outs as of yet and my music sounds much better.
PS I first tried hacking around in the HKLM\Software\WIDCOMM\BTConfig\SerialTransport; increasing baudrate/bytesize values. Don't. Changing stuff breaks the bluetooth

yesterday i tested the a2dp range and it auto reduced quality the further i went. Unfortunately it did not vice-versa.
I'm going to test that reg.
EDIT: Definitely that reg works but it also makes the cpu use heavier and you notice that while using gps software on the car and streaming music. The 528mhz cpu is not powerful enough for this task. After some testing the value is like kb/s, so 272 is the usual for good quality, above that it takes allot of cpu. At the end i removed the reg because the device does the auto quality/cpu usage quite well. The quality is not quite the same has with a fixed value of 272 but barely worst.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing with the distance and quality, which kind of sucks as over time if the signal weakens for what ever reason (which will likely happen over an extended period of time) the audio quality gets worse and worse over time.
Also I have noticed that Audio controls don't seem to work on the TP2 with my BT stereo headphones (Sony DR-BT21G) and seem to play at max volume all the time. Not sure if this is something you guys have noticed as well or if it is specific to my head phones, though they have worked fine with other devices.

if you google it you will find ppl with dell and hp pda that uses/installed widcomm/broadcom stack and "unfortunately" it's a feature. The volume is controlled only by the a2dp receiver.
The linespeed does work but try and use wifi and a2dp at the same time You will get so much skipping :S My best experience is without that reg. Not the best quality but.. You will live with it.
Also it does adjust the "quality" itself. Lowers and uppers. It's just not instant.

anyone figure out the reg settings so it will force the call to use ringtone?

Weird sound with Bose headset

Stock ROM - trying to play some music through wired headset. Using an ordinary pair of headphones (Sennheiser), the sound is great, ordinary sound.
I plugged in my Bose on-ear headset (i.e. phones plus inlike mike) and the sound is weird - sounds like it is being played through a cavern, the treble has disappeared, some bass elements of the sound are emphasised and there is a strange reverberation, as I say, like it is being played in a cavern or echoing around a vast cathedral.
If I change the headset, everything is fine again.
Is there some way I can make the Jasjar work with the Bose headset, or is there something unique to the Jasjar's line out socket?
(The Bose headset works fine with every gadget I have).

don't know if you still need an answer to this topic... As far as I know, headsets and Jasjar/Universal is a bit tricky... The assignment of each port for headphone (2 ports for left and right) and microphone (additional port) is different from the assignment of Bose's headset.
The only adapter for HTC Universal that seems to use the correct assignment I have found here:

I have not tried it out but at least from the comment on the site it seems to be a work-around.

bluetooth fine for calls, lousy for tunes

I love my Altec-Lansing bluetooth stereo headphones for long calls, but when i listen to tunes, it breaks up so badly I can't stand to listen to it. Won't work in my pocket, or in my hand unless i hold the phone right up to my head (kind of defeats the purpose).
Any solution?

Try using a registry editor to edit or add the following key:
HKLM\Software\WIDCOMM\Plugin\AV\LineSpeed
Change the DWord Value to 320. That vastly improved my A2DP sound quality.

I dont see any LineSpeed keys/ values /data.
HKLM\Software\WIDCOMM\Plugin\AV\ does excist tho.

Are you using the backbeat 903/906? I have those, and I experience the same issue. I've added the reg value mentioned above, and it did help some, but the issue clearly still exists. The thing is though, I can carry the phone in my back pocket with no issues, but when I move it to my front pocket (jacket or pants), it starts to break up again. And...it doesn't always appear in the situations/conditions where it has in the past...it's very intermittent and unpredictable.
I've found no other fix really, and it's just one more thing I've written off to the sub-par widcomm stack that we're all stuck with
