Does anyone know how to possibly take off that really ugly album art on the default music player; the random images that are assigned if you don't have album art. Love the stock music player but the album art really annoys the heck out of me.
I would like to know as well!
Not really relevant to your question but i can totally recommend getting Power Amp from the market the best music player for Android, i don't think ive ever actually used the stock music player.

Indeed. If you have the images you'd prefer, shoot them to me. I'll set you up. I found them in the 'SystemUI.apk' file and gree that they are horrid at best.

I know this is asking a lot, but it would be really cool if you could create a thread detailing how to make these changes. A lot of users, myself included would be really interested in learning how to do this.
Ill step up here. Its really quite easy and once you can do this you can go on to do other theme changes easily.
I agree the album art is horrendous.
The images are in (for me) : musicplayer.apk
from : music_player_thumb_01 to music_player_thumb_08
size : 480 x 480
What you want to do is get hold of your MusicPlayer.apk From system/app
Ive found the easiest way to get it onto my pc is just locate it with a filemanager,
hold my finger on it then click send to. I then either send it to my pc via bluetooth or send it to my dropbox. You can also copy and paste it to your SD/phone storage and the use the wire to put it on your pc but wireless is easy/lazier just how i like it.
Once you have the apk on your pc open it up with 7zip and go to :
res/drawable-hdpi
(the location of most of the images).
Now just inject your files into this folder overwriting the other ones.
If you want just extract the drawable-hdpi folder so you can take a look at the images and see what you want to edit.
Next you either put it in a flashable zip or use root explorer or some filemanager to copy it over manually.
I can provide a flashable zip if you need.
Im gonna knock some galaxy images together in that size and replace the old ones, ill share them here when im done.
Hope this helps.
Heres how it looks and the files but there are still some frugly thumbnails to take care of :

Are any good animated wallpapers in WVGA out there?
Does TF3D support them? If not, we could use them for S2U2.
All animations I can find are vor QVGA :-(
I tried making my own by compressing a dreamscene video ans resizing it to WVGA.
It worked, but the filesize was too big and the image quality was too bad...
I also would like to know where I can found animated wallpapers to use them in Manila 2.5

me and all
+1 here
i don't even know what kind of animated wallpaper it is?? (gif? or what??)
and i wondered 480x800 gif might look awful on HD... since the color is limited to 256 colors in gifs and with such a high resolution...
Haven't seen anything except this which I know isn't exactly what you are looking for.
Also found this thread on same topic, but unfortunately with no success
+1
A truly animated background would be way too sweet!!!

so it means manila 2.5's animated wallpaper = 480x800 gif?
Dont know. Im testing it wright now!
Made animated gif file of 7MB size. But doesn't play it!
Don't be silly guys, it's not animated gifs. A quick look in the /windows/My animated wallpaper dir shows a bunch of PNG's which are the actual background used for this (at least in Miri's V9.0). The animations themselves must be included in manilla files, like the weather animations.
So good luck to create your own. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think it will be as easy a creating animated GIFs.
Exemple here (just the background pic without animations)
I don't think that they must be included in manila files. Because when select that you want an animatet wallpaper it takes you to Album where you must srch for it!

It sounds logical, you still need to have a preview of the animation.
By the way, I've just checked if by chance those png's were animated (apng format, same extension .png) but they are not. Just a flat background.
Seems I was right: these pics are part of the animation related to the background pic I've just posted. I've extracted them with CFC editor fro chainfire. Same song as for the weather animations. I think we would need a special tool to create our own animations because they are scripted, which is quite more complicated than just a bunch of frames playing constinuously.
any luck with that for now?
I wanted the calendar from hero ROM but Hero isn't as fast as cupcake. So I came up with this one to use with my Cupcake ROM
its not an application, its a simple wallpaper that displays the month.

Made one that fits with Pure Calendar Widget by koxx (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=545097)
Here's the one im using for August 2009
I created a PSD file that is easy to customize and change the dates and months.
Link to the PSD File http://rapidshare.com/files/265442992/calendar.psd
There are 2 sizes, Large and Small one.
Used photoshop CS3 for this, not sure if it will open in previous versions of Photoshop
How to use:
1) Put the png file in your card
2) Use the png as your wallpaper
3) Change your settings from the Menu-> Extender (change homescreen to 2 and default to 1 or 2)
4) Change the lockscreen wallpaper
How to change your lockscreen wallpaper:
1) Open the theme you're using with winrar
2) Browse to the directory \system\framework-res.apk\res\drawable\
3) Look for zzlockscreenback.png and replace it with your 320x480 png image
4) close Winrar
5) resign the theme and flash (How to resign the theme - http://modmygphone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10591 look for the autosign tool)
6) boot into recovery and flash the newly signed theme
ToDo:
Need to find a way to edit the background in the pattern lock. Anyone knows how to?
Tested with:
CyanogenMod 3.9.7
Anyone willing to test in other ROM versions?
I've bee kinda hoping that we could run apps as the background something along the lines like this. Just the date could be selected and accessed by the menu button.
Good job I like it, wouldn't you have to update it every month? Lol

yeah just need to change the wallpaper monthly
As you can see, im still running some widgets with this one.
This works well if you only limit your homescreen to 2 (you can do this through the Extended menus)
You should have post the wallpaper to a link so we can try it on are own.
i never thought about doing that haha. good work around but a pain, gotta keep making new ones every month.
PSD released

Gallery App - Sort Images / Change Order
Hello everybody,
I'm new to this nice device so I have a question, I already did some research but i couldn't find a solution!
In the Gallery App, it's shows the last picture at the bottom, and not as first. This is very annoying when you have like 100 pictures and you want to Share the last one, you have to scroll all the way down to select it. Is there a way to change the order of the Gallery App?
Tried:
- Changing the order the 100MEDIA Folder in Astro File Manager *not working*
- A lot of research on the web *found nothing*
Maybe i just looked at the wrong place, if that's the case: please let me know!
Thekn
I use the 3D Gallery app and it has a feature that arranges pictures by date so it makes it easer to browse through.
Using the stock gallery app, you can use the right scroll bar to quickly go through the list to the bottom. Aside from that, I dont see a way to reverse the order.

Thanks for your reaction! Yeah, I tried the 3D Gallery to, works great but it also don't have a function which can sort your pics...

Smaller! Faster! Clearer! The best picture viewer/browser/gallery you are looking for!
Provides fast and high-resolution thumbnails and smooth experience like iPhone:
- double-tap or pinch to zoom
- swype to slide
- rotate
- crop
- share
- set wallpaper
- slide shows
- hide/unhide
- sort
- move/copy pictures.
- No background service!!!
It's really faster and better than Gallery 3D and the Default Gallery App
The best thing is that it doesn't load all the pics again and again every time you startup the App!
Hello,
The JB deskclock.apk has three softkeys that turn into dots when you put the desk clock into night mode (It's the soft-key version of dimming hardware keys, I believe).
I'm wondering if there is a way to hack those dots out completely, same as media player apps do - extend the activity over the soft-keys. It would make the desk clock look much nicer, especially since black pixels on amoled are almost seamless with the bezel and would also prevent any potential screen burn in.

From user interaction perspective, you could access the soft-keys by tapping the screen and going out of the night mode - where the soft-keys would appear again.
Thanks for any help/work/ideas.
Cheers
In theory, a developer could probably implement something that used a overlay-style sliding softkeys like watching landscape videos in Youtube, where they would disappear after a while.
Exactly
it's actually not part of the DeskClock.apk unfortunately, i think the images you are looking for would be ic_sysbar_lights_out_dot_large.png and/or ic_sysbar_lights_out_dot_small.png... both are in the SystemUI.apk, res/drawable-xhdpi folder. if you replace those with blank png's, you could achieve that effect.
that also means that any other apps that utilize those little gray dots as softkeys would also be blank... no idea what other apps that might be, if any.
if you upload the SystemUI.apk for whatever ROM you are using, i could give it a try to confirm. obviously that wouldn't be a very helpful mod since it would only be for one specific ROM, but i think it's something that could be done with zipthemer (something i am not familiar with) to make it more universal if it's a mod other people are really clamoring for.

I can do a ZipThemer and make the lights out images transparent, but if theme chooser themes have these images in them, it will override the mod. It'll work perfectly on the system theme or any unthemed rom though.
EDIT: Here ya go.
Lights-out-ZipThemer.zip

If you don't know how to use ZipThemer, follow my instructions here

Enjoy
.....memoirs of a flash addict.
Many thanks stympy352, ecs1984 - it worked really nice. But I'm not sure that's what I'm looking for. The end effect is the same, and is great - but I'll loose it when I flash the next AOKP nightly.
I was hoping for a solution more like the one in Youtube player.
But still - the effect is great now - perfect $400 desk clock :
Cheers
PS. FBReader without the dots is nice.
EDIT:
To be honest - I was hoping there's an API or something to control the soft-keys. Something like sofkeys.setVisibility(HIDDEN);
Hi all:
I'm thinking of buying this Joying Android player for my car:
https://www.carjoying.com/2-din-car...-system-support-camera-dvr-for-universal.html
But I have a question about the music app, used to play music from the USB or SD card.. I hope someone can help me...
Normally in my USB/SD card, I organize my mp3's in folders, by album names. So for this android music player that comes with most android players, will the app display my songs in folders/files, or will it just search through all the files, and display them in a single-hierarchy, chronological list?
This is important to me, as I want to be able to quickly change my songs by moving to another folder when I need it...
Thanks in advance!
I don't own exactly this one, but I guess all Chinese are similar. So on the question: on mine when you slide right the music app screen on the left side is something like files explorer and you can choose what folder you want to play or press the very top option to play everything. So if your card folder structure is simple you will be able to play what folder you want in a matter of couple of clicks. But if you have complicated folders structure like folder in a folder in a folder, then will be a bit hassle. I hope that helps
Ps: you can always download any music app from gogle play that suits you
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
I think you should consider PowerAmp, if you set correctly in setting menu, you can slide left-right for prev/next track, slide up-down for prev/next folder, also you can sort (for each folder) by album, artist or even file-name. I'm really happy with these features.
I guess I can roughly picture it in my mind... but any pictures would be extremely helpful!
I stumbled upon BlackPlayer Music Player and its awesome! Does what you're asking and more. I plugged in an old usb stick with various folders of artists into my Joying headunit and when I opened the app for the first time it was so easy to tune it. Sorts by artist, albums, songs, playlists, etc. Check it out in the app store. One pic from google:

I cam here to ask the same thing, I like to organise my music by Artist first then Album. The native player only wants to list the albums! I can't find a "Go up one Level" button anywhere.
On this note is it possible to remap the physical button on the head unit?
