Hey guys,
Prob been talked about, couldn't find using the search, but then again I am a noob. I partitioned SD card (1G partition, 0 swap, using clockwork 3x), flashed 3x clockworkmod version, then copied the nandroid from clockwork 2.5.0.7 back to SD. clockwork3x wouldn't find it, so I flashed 2x back to phone and tried again. No luck...
Also copying file to/from computer is waaaaaay slower than used to be before I partitioned.
1) Is there a thread I missed? or...
2) Can someone point me in the right direction please?

anymore info needed let me know
Any help is greatly appreciated guys as I would love to move on from being a noob to developing a ROM, however. Not looking good for me
Cheers
Fist thing: NEVER restore nandroid backups with different custom recoveries, than with those you have created them, or you will USB brick your device. So if you created a android backup with cwm 3x never restore it using cam 2x, amonra, rmd or any other.
Maybe Im wrong, but those speed issued could be caused by the rom itself, maybe because it is using some bad scripts, or by the computer.try it on a different pc, or try using a different rom, maybe you will notice something. I recommend that you buy a faster SD card. I have had the same issue and after I bought a 16gb class 10 card they disappeared.
Sorry for my bad english. cheers
It looks like I'm gunna wipe and reflash, I haven't updated cm7 nightly in a while and this excuse is as good as any I guess.
Bleh, I still have the ad backed up to the computer so ill just bite the bullet

ok, so I'm going to be selling my phone here soon and what i'd like to do is clear all of my items off the sd card by reformating it. I understand my backups will also be cleared off of it as well. My question is... once I'm on the rom I want and I do a reformat of the sd card that wont disable any of my rooting abilities will it? I understand it will remove the pc36img and all my stuff but if I'm on a rooted rom and I reformat the sd card will I will be able to go into recovery and perform a nandriod back up of the current rom I'm running as I normally would?
any input would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
p.s. also does anyone know how much the evo 3d will be if bought outright? Curious as to the answer because I was reading online it will be 499 however when I went into the local spring store the guy said 599....
thanks again!
Root will keep working fine.
thanks, and I will still be able to perform backups for the rom? kinda laymens questions but just being safe.
Yes you will
nvm............
I have been having all sorts of problems with my phone, mainly from it running super low on storage space, even though I have moved virtually everything to the SD card that I can, and keep wiping the address book (which of course screws everything up). Some kind folks had helped me out a lot, but in the end suggested I just wipe it all and start over, but I was waiting to get a new SD card, which I finally have, and I just wanted to make sure I understand everything correctly before leaping in.
So I understand I need to format the SD card, and I was hoping someone could give me or point me to a guide to doing so. I understand I need to get A2SD, is that right? And so once I format it, I can just put everything on my old card onto the new one, yeah? And I understand I need to install Amon RA and get rid of Clockwork Mod, I get that. So then after I do all that, I should just flash a new ROM and not restore anything, and if things seem better, then I can batch restore apps, is that right? I think I just want to stick with the stock ROM, but is there a rooted version of the latest update available?
If someone would be so kind as to walk me through this one last time, keeping in mind I am pretty much a noob, that would be much appreciated.
Oh, I also would love to do the Firerat custom MTD partitions thing (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855424), tried to do it once before but screwed some things up, had to revert back to a previous backup, so figured now would be a good time to try that again, so if anyone can give me the rundown on that too, that would be super.
Thanks so much!
im gonna try and help you here, first back up everything you have on your sd card to your computer so you dont loose it when partitioning, then download a PCIMG36.zip of amon ra, put it on sd card and boot into bootloader and select yes when prompted, that will put amon ra as your recovery. now that you have amon ra and already backed up the stuff in your sd card to your computer go ahead and in recovery selcect partition sd card, its gonna ask you for a swap size( i use 0 but you can use 32 if you like, 0 works fine), then its going to ask for partition size for me 1024 is more than enough(1024 equals 1gb), once this is done, select upgrade ext2 to ext3. now your sd card is partitioned. you can go ahead and put all your stuff back into your sd card and flash the rom(for a2sd to work your rom has to have it built in, other wise you are going to have to flash it) if your rom has it built in it will automatically kick in. once your rom is flashed you can go ahead and restore apps, i would do them one by one, sometimes there are issues when doing batch, and also unless the app is really important i would only restore the app not its data, but i do restore app and data for important apps. if all goes well you should have a lot more free memory on your phone, you can check if apps are going to sd ext by opening titanium back up and at the bottom you should see sd a2sd or sd ext and next to it amount of free memory, if your phone internal is still low after all this and gets lower when installing apps you can fix it by going into terminal emulator and typing
su (hit enter)
a2sd reinstall (hit enter, this will move all apps to sd ext)
any more questions ust ask
With the new 2.1/3.0 hybrids, you're better off using larger partitions. I found swap 64 or 128 and EXT of 2048 works out better, if you have an 8gig or larger SD Card
Thanks so much for the quick responses! I am going to give this a shot later tonight, but another quick question.
I think I've got down how to partition it, thanks a lot for breaking that down for me. And I did just get a 32 GB SD card, so I'll go with the 128 swap and EXT of 2048, that's no big deal.
Now for what ROM to flash - I've just used the stock before, haven't flashed any other ROMs, but if I'm going this far, figure I might as well give it a try, why not. So what ROM would you recommend that has A2SD already built in?? If you could just give me a quick run down (or point me to somewhere where there is one, I'm sure it already exists) on how to go about flashing the ROM (I think I just download it though and install it through bootloader, is that right??), that would be super appreciated.
Thanks again!!
Roms are flashed through recovery and what Rom to use wow that will get you a lot of opinions.

man there are so many roms for so many tastes, but i would suggest Vaelpak 3.2 rc2 which is still a sense rom, but has a lot of customization options. to flash your fresh rom you need to put the rom on your sd card, then turn off phone, go into bootloader, go into recovery, select wipe, and wipe cache, dalvik cache and data, do each twice to make sure, then go back and select flash zip from sd card, scroll to the bottom and look for the rom, select it and reboot
Once again, thanks for the replies and the detailed explanation, much appreciated. Didn't get around to it last night, will do so tonight. I definitely understand there are a ton of ROMs out there, but am just looking for something pretty simple I guess, since all I've used is the stock so far. Vaelpak 3.2 rc2 sounds good, I'll give that a try. So just to make sure I understand, when I install this ROM, that's everything, right, so I don't need to worry about installing the latest Android software. Or do I still need to install the latest Gingerbread update (and if so, how do I go about doing that?) in addition to installing this ROM?
Sorry for the million questions, and thanks again!
VaelPak is a very extensive ROM. If you REALLY want to stay close to stock, but have the most updated, complete, streamlined, error free experience, go with Synergy or MikG.
I LOVE VaelPak, but there is a LOT of options, themeing, development, etc in there. It's definitely not for a beginner. Also, his newest release, which is based in GB is pretty awesome, but it's an AOSP Rom, which I'm not a fan of.
Hi all,
So this is really strange, I feel like I must just be missing something, but I finally pulled the trigger, did it all, flashed my first ROM (exciting!) and all seems to have gone smoothly, except that I cannot figure out how to access Titanium Backup?!? I thought it came with MikG (I decided to give that ROM a shot), but did not see it, so went to the Market and re-downloaded it, and it says downloaded, but I cannot click on "open" and it is nowhere to be found in the apps list, or anywhere for that matter. Help! What the heck is going on? Any thoughts?
Thanks much!
Did you have a notification saying "Titatium Backup Installed" or something like that? I've had the same problem in the Gingersense roms if I leave the market before the download AND installation is complete. Not every time but sometimes.
I was just being a little slow there, I had installed the key, but not the actual program. Oops So all good, got that working, but a couple quick more questions.
Sadly it seems that I did not have TB set to backup everything on a regular basis, looks like it was just set up to backup new apps and new versions (yikes!, I know). So I've been restoring some apps little by little, and when I restored Angry Birds I noticed I was stuck back on the first level and I was like, this isn't right, looked at the date, and last backup was like March/April. This is kind of a drag for some things, like that, and especially beyondPod, lost all my settings and a number of feeds there, but I think it's probably just something I'm going to have to live with, right? I of course made a nandroid right before I wiped and flashed, but it seems like even more of a hassle to go back to that nandroid, backup things to Titanium, then reflash MikG and restore everything again, rather than just recreating what I've lost, right? Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something, there's no other way around this.
Thanks for any assistance.
so first i flashed [ROM][01/08][STABLE][Sense2.1+3.0 GB]InsertCoin CM7 HBOOT
and it did work perfectly, except when i started to backup apps, it didn't put those to ext4 partition i made, it put those to internal mem and i ran out of space pretty soon. Tried to work my way somehow, but didn't find any useful tips.
So then i flashed [ROM][01/08][STABLE][Sense2.1+3.0 GB]InsertCoin STOCK 1.0.9
and same thing, except this time i made ext3, but apps are still going to internal memory, even tho that both of these should automatically transfer apps to ext? partition.
Steps i made if someone sees something wrong:
1. Rooted with unrevoked
2. Changed recovery to Amon Ra
3. Backed up everything
4. Formatted and partitioned SD
5. Flashed ROM
i don't think i made anything wrong since everything is working perfectly, but what do i know, i'm just stupid construction worker with only basic technical knowledge.
So if i need something or need to do something, please help me.
if important, that CM7 hboot was with A2SD and Stock Hboot is with A2SD+
S*HIT, i'm too confused but that sense 3.0 is really beautiful and this whole thing made my desire to be in new level
Naah, figured out already. Now 150 apps and still almost 110mb free space at internal memory

Glad you figured it out, could say what you did wrong though for people who will encounter same issue.
Don't know bro, stubborn as I am, I flashed it 3rd time and it worked.
To be exact I flashed that [ROM][01/08][STABLE][Sense2.1+3.0 GB]InsertCoin STOCK 1.0.9
with 1gb ext3.
Doubled my score in quadrant earlier today
Has anyone tried the honeycomb sense version of IC's rom? I keep getting a bootloop on the stock one. Does anyone else have the same problem?
Hey all! So, a couple weeks back, I flashed a BETA ICS ROM onto my Inspire (Desire HD). Being my normal ignorant, and noob-like self, I completely ignored the fact that the thread said "DEVS ONLY!"
Well, flash forward a couple of weeks, and my Inspire is all but bricked. The ROM did not have mobile data yet, did not have a connection to the micro-SD card, and it was not touchscreen ready yet. I have tried ADB, but to no-avail, my file system knowledge and overall lack of knowledge put me quite a predicament.
I have flashed many ROMs before, but I sincerely messed up big time on this try. So, would any of you be able to help me find a cure for this important issue? Is the fix really simple and easy, and I am just a bonehead?
Thanks!
Not sure what your issue is. You never clearly stated. Does the phone not boot? Stuck in the splash screen? you want to flash a new rom?

Oops, sorry! My problem is that my phone is stuck on the developer ROM, and I would like to fix it somehow. So, yes, I would like to get another ROM, but I have to remove this one first. The phone itself works great, but with no wi-fi, mobile data, and no touchscreen support, it is hard to live with.
Your nowhere near bricked. Going to ask the basics. Did you make a backup before hand? Did you have another rom on your SD card.?
If you answered yes to either then simply boot into recovery and flash the rom/ backup. You mentioned flashing roms before so I left out the steps.
If you answered no then you have two options. You can mount the SD card from within cwr. So download a rom on your PC. Mount the sd card, then flash away. Or take out SD card and use an adapter/other phone to transfer a new rom.
I was not smart enough to back up onto a computer, but I did back up onto the SD card. The only problem with this is that the ROM, and my computer, will not recognize that there is in fact an SD card inserted into the phone. So, in other words, it's like not having an SD card at all.
CWR will still read the sd card. Trust me. boot into CWR and restore your backup. And you be good as gold
Thanks! But, what exactly does CWR stand for? Haha, I'm not the most knowledgeable on the topic of Android, but is it like Clock Work Mod?

yeah. CWR stands clockworkmod recovery
Okay, in that case, I'm not sure. All of my old files (CM7, CWM, etc.) were on the SD card, and it is unreachable. I have tried to boot into CWR, but it just gives me a black screen. I feel like this thing is just unable to be fixed!
its fixable. just the black screen in CWR is an obstacle. worst case is you have flash an ruu and start over with the whole rooting. i remember reading about the black screen in CWR give me a few minutes to find them to see what to do next
Okay! Thanks a bunch!
Pull the battery and put back in
Press and hold vol-down
Press power and bootloader will start
Select recovery using vol keys and press power
If you have a backup (you really should, and and if you don't consider this experience a learning one), restore it by selecting the backup / restore option
If no backup, goto mounts and select as storage, plug usb into pc and copy your favorite Rom over, then select back and flash from zip, select the zip and you should all be back up
But please, please I'm all for people learning and experimenting, but might be worth reading some of the basics guides and notes on roms before flashing the next one. Oh, and if I forgot to mention.... Do a backup before flashing ANYTHING saves heartache later, the enjoy

ok i couldn't find the specific thread i was looking for. i remember it being stickied but couldnt find it. did find something that might be usefull but it depends on if you have access to an sd card adapter or other phone to transfer the file needed to reflash CWR. If not i would suggest trying to see if flashing an ruu to help.
edit- I'm confused now. thought you said that when you boot into recovery all you get is a black screen?
Hi,
Basically what has happened is, yesterday i flashed the ROM RcMixS however i think i may have done something terrible wrong along the way. I tried to restore my previous backup however had no luck with this. I am currently restoring phone using the RUU, for the 2nd time, since tried it again and same result. Im thinking maybe this good be pointing to a bad partition on the SD card? Is there a way i can fix a bad partition without buying a new card?
Thanks

theres no such thing as a troubleshooting guide sticked on the Q&A forum and it will not help you.
Yes i have seen your guide, and it did help me the last time when i broke my phone. Thanks for the guide! But ive tried looking at your guide, but so far ive tried both boot problem sections, with no success, and the advanced boot problems to. Hence why i might be thinking that its the SD partition?
Did a full format (of everything), and tried flashing a ROM you KNOW works e.g. cm7?
The guide is there to get your phone in working order, not for specific ROM's
Ive wiped everything apart from the SD card and have tried flashing SuperNova, Gingerburst, Leedroid's and AcesMod007. All of which have ended up with the same result. So im definitely thinking its my phone or SD card which is causing the problems?
Edit: managed to fix it myself, by wiping the card on 4ext recovery then re partioning the card. Seems to have worked well
