I want to try to determine what is the best rom 2.09 Froyo - based for HTC Desire.
In the last week I've tried a large number of ROMs. I've really liked 2 of these:
- Roufianos V6 (It's the one that I'm using at the moment)
- OpenDesire 3.0.4 (I know that the 3.0.5 is out but I haven't tried it yet)
Obviously there are many other excellent rom but I haven't got the time to try them, such as:
- Alex V1.1 official OTA cooked by Paul from MoDaCo (I've not tried it yet but I thing it is good)
- Lambros Custom Rom r3.1 --- I've tried it: in my opinion it's the best. Very fast, stable, no problem, no crashes. The chef always helps you and give you what you ask him! Fantastic! (link hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745447 )
- Pays-ROM
- Others....
Well, I don't know what is better.... can you help me choosing a ROM please?
If you thing that there are better ROMs instead of the ones that I've written, please tell me about them.
Thanks to all.
GiO

IMO this comes down to the "SENSE UI",
you wanna have SENSE and all the HTC bells and whistles? LeeDroid 1.8 or Neophyte NextSense 4.0
you don´t give a damn about SENSE (like me)? OpenDesire 3.0.5 is just AWESOME.
Both options are really good but it´s a question of personal preference I think.

I don't know if is necessary for me... I don't really like the launcher, I use Launcher Pro Plus and it works great! I also really like the Sense app, like contacts, music, app sharing, and apps like that... I really don't know what to do :S

has Leedroid gotten rid of the SD card bug now? i found a lot of bugs with 1.7 in fact i would go as far to say it was the worst rom i have tried (and i have flashed nearly all within the last 2 weeks.
i use neophyte nextsense aswell its v good. i haven't used a non-sense rom since the defrost one which was using the nexus froyo (back in june i think).
however from looking at the 'post your screenshots' thread in the themes and apps section i'm tempted to go back to non-sense as some of the roms and mods make it look really cool.

what does everyone think is the coolest / sexiest looking setup?
Neophyte 1.6. You will not go wrong. If you think those other roms are good, you will ejaculate in your pants with a neo Rom. I think that first neophyte Rom comes down to a fluke of nature. His latest Rom nextsense is good and I enjoy playing. But the occasional bug. Still better than anything else I believe.
I prefer modaco official version.
Neophyte 1.6 as said. You will not find a more stable or better ROM imo.
why don't you give a go on my rom....i saw you haven't mentioned it....
the latest r3.1 version is as stable a rom can be and i have 2 versions.....one if you want all the HTC apps and one with HTC Sense but without the apps, just launcher, widgets and main apps (people, dialer, mail, calendar)

My brother tried it and sad me that is a very fast and stable rom. The problem is that it's based on 2.06 relase... What are the differences between the 2.06 relasa and the 2.09 one (the official OTA rom) ?

believe me i tried a lot roms and not cause it's mine but cause it's true you will like it a lot...STABLE AND FAST....battery life is on the good side...i was on holidays last week for 7 days and i charged the phone just once (light use though, 10-15 calls, 20-30 pics daily and a couple sms) and in 7 day night i had to charge again...with medium-high use you can get 1.5 days if you charge properly....
BUT ANYTHING anyone says is not true until you try something...this is what i think....it may work on you and don't work on me who knows

What about the battery? How often do you have to charge the phone? In every rom I've tried the battery sucks!
as for the battery i think you can't compare it just right when you flash the rom....myself i do one full charging cycle and then rate a rom's battery life in order to get the full idea....
flash the rom, charge it till 100% (unplug before discharge) and then see how it does

hi lambrospower. I am just downloading your rom and will give it a try mate. Going back to your battery comment, this is a question that i have been thinking about for some time, but never got around to asking anyone, i hope you may know the answer for me? Since i have had my desire (3 months) the only way that i have ever charged it is with USB. Maybe once i have done a full charge with the 240v adaptor, the rest of the time it is plugged into my PC either charging or as a disk drive, my question is, will that make a difference to my overall battery performance? because i havent been charging it with the mains adaptor will my battery be "weaker" than a person that has always used the in-wall charger? I seem to get really bad battery life with most roms that i have tried (and believe me, i have tried a lot!!) yesterday i went out for a few hours, around 3 hours, battery was at 100% when i left, 3 hours later 55%!! now in my eyes that is a hell of a lot of decrease...... This was with NeYophyTeNexTSense rom (but i cant fault NeYo, he is a good chef, hats off to the lad, this is why i think its me thats either doing something wrong (settings) or it is in fact a battery problem??
Hi guys, I really like OpenDesire, but it's stock Google ROM (or based thereon) so it's got no FM Radio functionality. A question to all users of stock ROMs: how do you guys cope with the absence of an FM Radio knowing that hardware-wise your Desire supports it but the software does not have it? As for me personally, I've been tilting back and forth between OpenDesire-like ROMs and SenseUI-like ROMs, and it's still bugs me. On the one hand, I love the stock ROM for its cleanliness and overall looks (without Sense bells & whistles), but that I don't have the FM radio keeps bugging me like hell. Can anyone share their experiences?
Hey guys, just wondering what the most stable (fewest bugs) ROM available right now is. I am also wanting to extentd my battery life. I have a rooted stock 2.2 SLCD Dinc. I know that some things work differently on the SLCD versions than on the AMOLED versions.
I have recently come from an eris and had a great support group on the eris xda section. Since the eris has been around a lot longer than the Dinc it was easy to tell what ROM's were widley used due the activity on that thread. It is not as easy in the Dinc threads because they are so even in numbers.
Thanks for any advice!
You will get a better response in the Q&A forum.
prob skyraider
i love the true vanilla roms like ruby and CM but im not sure if you would consider them 100% stable and i know theres been problems with the SLCD screens
as far as stability.. the Virtuous rom is basically the stock rom with a few user friendly options to tweak things.
I have had the best experience with skyraider's roms, I like the CM6.1 RC's but always get better battery life with skyraider.

Yeah I agree with you on that. I'm using Virtuous 3.1 which comes with the new htc kernel and it's blown my mind on battery life and charging times.
The cool thing about roms is the ability to backup and install brand new ones with no risk of really messing anything up. Try them all and find out which you like best. I try a new rom everyday practically... I'm on Myn's right now but I'm probably about to go back to rEVOlution... or Incdoes' Desire Z.... The choices...

HAHA, yes! I thought I was really the only one. I was like, baby, you're being stupid, no one else cares.... guess I was wrong. It used to be changing phones all the time, but once I got an incredible, I haven't had the desire to change hardware, just software...
Glad I'm not the only one, kinda makes me feel more like a man now.
gfs and rom flashing
man, same here....i think at 11pm no one is going to call me and i can finally flash the rom i've been waiting all day to flash, but boom! gf calls and im like damn. lol. then i spend another hour trying to make it look like how it was before i flashed, ex: download the apps (i still have learned how to use titanium backup to restore the apps), put icons in their places, login all the apps, setup emails, etc....and by the end of the week, new version of a different rom is out and i wanna flash that now.
My wife WANTS an incredible, but she HATES my phone. Shes always saying "Why cant you just PICK ONE and GO WITH IT. Im SO TIRED of your LOVE AFFAIR with your PHONE!"
Shes grown to tolerate it over the year. Kinda.
But back on topic, the ones i tried and liked so far have been
Sense: Uncommon Sense, Myn's Warm, and anything with hey its lou
AOSP: Cyanogen is great on battery, Ruby is nice and smooth, and I've liked the stuff from IncDoes.
To be honest, I don't think that the ROM affects your battery life that greatly. The kernel and what applications your running has a much greater effect. For example, I found that I got the best battery life with either an AOSP ROM, or a Sense ROM with Rosie removed (keeping all the other parts of Sense intact, just replacing Rosie with ADW.Launcher or LauncherPro). Also, LiveWallpapers destroyed my battery.
That said, stability is definitely affected by your ROM. SkyRaider seemed okay, but I had my phone wipe itself one morning, which someone else confirmed as being an issue. My personal best experience has been with Redemptive rEVOlution. Great theme, not much bloat, and nearly bugfree.

Looking for recommendations - Roms& other tweaks
Hi, I hope the OP doesn't mind that I borrow this thread a bit, as this is the exact question I wanted to ask.
tl:dr version:
I am really interested in _opinions_ and _details_ wrt different ROMs (mods or stock) - "xxx is best" isn't a very useful answer to a total noob like me.
So, yesterday I bought this lovely piece of hardware. It came unlocked (of course) and with this ROM (there's a thread about it here):
-System version: Moto_Version.34.177.5.Retail.en.ND
-Firmware: 2.2.2
-Baseband: EPU93_U00.59.1
-Kernel: [email protected] #1
-Build: Jorem_U3_2.4.2_177-5
So far I am rather pleasantly surprised with the lack of bloat. But it did seem rather sluggish when I had installed several apps and played around for a few hours - and the list of running process was horrible.
And I have a feeling I will want Gingerbread in short order (my familiarity with Android is confined to a POS chinese Froyo mini-tablet (had to flash the ROM to even get it to work, then I managed to lose the microSD within it... Haven't taken it apart yet) and looking at my husband's new Samsung G2S - he made me solemnly swear not to root, flash or do anything interesting to it before he even let me touch it).
Or will I?
What I want is
- As much control of the hardware as I can get
(re-assigning buttons (like that to me nearly useless search button), easy ways to turn stuff off and on, customisable quick access to all kinds of interestisting stuff that I hardly even know about yet)
- Minimum of "pretty" UI
- Max battery
- Tweaking off things like wifi and other radio reception, maybe touch-screen too (can one even calibrate capacitative screens? I'm old, and tend to keep my stuff for a long time, so all my previous gadgets have been resistive Palms of various flavours).
And simultaneously I also want:
- As little hassle as I can get away with (ie stable core system which won't need frequent updates).
- Best possible customisation of calendar (and integration with google calendar, of course)
I can't believe it took me so long to finally enter the android world! I can't understand why it took me two years to finally do it. The PalmOS I was in mourning for ("I want my apps from 1995! Why did they break it! I also want wifi! Stupid Palm!") really wasn't worth it.
Nota Bene: I am not a coder or a dev on any platform. I'm a middle aged woman who also happens to be rather fearless when it comes phones. I'm not averse to tweaking a line here and there myself (with instructions or understanding), but generally I get bored pretty quickly with tinkering, and then just want things to work the way I want them to work.
Useless questions in the wrong place (just so I don't give the impression I'm too well behaved - loved the registration video ):
- Where is that "thank you"?! (I've used such on other forums, but I must be blind here. ETA: yes I was.)
- What's the best place (here or elsewhere) to read and ask about a) general android architecture/philosophy/etc (ie what's part of the OS, what can be removed)?
- What's the best place to ask the question "which app would be best for this?"?
- What android-centric forum or subforum would best put up with my wordyness?
I can tell in LiquidArc display eats battery, 3h display is on, battery is down. For other roms i don't know, if someone wants to tell...
Look here -> http://modmymobile.com/forums/640-m...liquidarc-gingerbread-v2-0-09-08-11-a-13.html for installguide

Never tried Cmiui but Im surE WIUI is better. It updates every week with a lot of tweaks
Sent from My Defy MB525 (2.3.5) WIUI 1.9.2 using XDA Premium
actally I see the MIUI ROM too much unstable with Defy. Cyanogen7 is surely better! I love MIUI UI so I hope it goes better asap!
Bye
I've been using CM7 since a couple of months and have been very happy with the stability. (Presently on cm7 rc 1.5) the stock froyo on the other hand was annoyingly unstable and needed frequent reboots to keep it sane.
The battery life is the only grouse - it lasts around 1.5 days with normal usage. On froyo I could easily get upto 2 days.
Cm7s tweaks and customizations make the trade off in battery life worth it, for me.
To each their own I suppose.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
The amount of tweaking and customisation on CM7 is way ahead of any rom I've ever tried and yes I've tried them all literally. You can shuffle every component of the UI and you've got a new phone everyday, hardware performance is as stable as they come, nice amount of useful apps no added garbage.
If you prefer the curved MIUI look there is a theme for that aswell.
CM7 stands in a league of its own IMO. Battery isn't anything above average(lasts me a day of heavy usage on HSPA network) but it isn't a compromise either.

From personal experience, it's not a good port. It really drained my battery big time.
It majorly drained my battery. :< Is there another port working better or are we doomed to eternal waiting?
Yeah really. I'm staying on stock until CM is officially supported. That is, if it ever gets supported
You must be joking about the battery drain, mine last double the time of a stock Rom.
I read that the dsp app causes battery drain. Try removing that then see how you get on.
I also removed dev tools, terminal emulator and couple of other apps that I personally don't need, and this Rom is super fast especially when overclocked and still the battery is almost double a stock Rom.
Just the camera and slight WiFi issues then this will be amazing.
No, not joking. It lasted maybe an.hour and then died on a full charge. The phone was pretty hot as well. But no, I'll stay on stock until a more stable ROM gets released.

Honestly, if alquez can get the camera working, I'd gladly switch to it from using Jikantaru's XE ROM. Mind you, I'm actually liking it. The battery life is AMAZING!!! There is no dialer issue; I was on the phone for maybe 3 hours after full charge and it only went down two bars!! Dialer was at %46. Definitely staying on this ROM until something huge shows up.
^^ Tried all the roms i could get here and i can say that xe-rom is even faster then the new 2.3.5 stock one for me.I just added overclocked kernel(also jikintaru) and it's blazing fast(don't need to run benchmarks i can fell it) Tnx jikantaru for all the hard work you have done to this scene

Looking for best battery life and bug free rom...
As I am just pissed off by battery life by stock rom, i do not mind going on Aosp rom either on gingerbread 2.3, 2.2 or 4.0
hope some experienced people over here at XDA will help me to find out a good battery life and smooth rom for daily use.
Thanks
From my experience, the best rom (fast, bugfree, no lags) that i have came through is splash mod. Now for the battery, you can download easy battery saved. You can then configure it to stop some things when the phone is locked so that battery consumption is reduced. I personally use it and have my phone up for more than 20 hours
The best thing I've found for battery is to buy a spare battery and a wall charger that holds the spare battery, that way by the time my battery is flat my spare one is fully charged. As for the roms its personal preference in my eyes, splashmod may be fast out of the box but I could have a sense based rom running just as fast within half an hour so my advice is try them all and find one that suits you.

Best rom
IMO,I would say the joker rom, spalsh v1.8,and sunaabh. Ive had about 30-60 percent battery life on averga more than stock rom with the 3 I mentioned
I am curious what makes splash rom faster than cm7 since it is based on nightly 256. I think it might be just because of JIT enabled in CM7 (not sure if it is by default) while it is not enabled in splash rom. JIT might (is) causing some delay when executing applications. What do you think?

No there's nothing special about it, its because he's stripped out all the apps to make it a barebones Rom, thats all.
Not for me though I need apps like the clock and don't want to waste my time downloading such apps from the market, I'd rather have a full version and delete what I don't want myself.

For me best rom is RemPuzzleRom fast, stable and good battery life.
I have had the best battery using CM7. I remove unwanted apps using Barebones tutorial.
~20 hours battery life on CM7.
~17 hours on Rempuzzle
Splash mod 2.0 is the best, becouse there is no bugs and it is very friendly to battery

rempuzzlerom and splashmod .... worked really well for me (about 20 hours of battery backup)
I still use stock 2.2 and trust me battery last for 1 to 1.5 days with constant use of twitter, sms, gtalk, call and browsing.
SplashMOD is very smooth, having no issues with it yet, been in use for 2 months. No FCs, all apps working fine.
CM7 was with me for 4-5 months. Towards the end it got very laggy, like seriously jumpy (probably due to neglect), but battery life on splashmod is no where near as good as CM7.
Maybe i just use it more. I think sleep as android and copilot rinse it, which i didnt have on CM7
Am switching to Rempuzzle soon so see what all the crack is about
