I just found this. Wondering if this (http://www.techofweb.com/technology/root-android-gingerbread-gingerbreak.html) would help us to unlock and root out 2.33 evos. I unlocked my last two smart phones (windows os) , but the android is still new to me.
Sadly no; the gingerbreak didn't work on the evo.
Yeah it wont work i test it and nothing!
Hack
Thanks to both of you. Wanted someones input before I try on my phone. Don't need to brick it.

No problem, at least you asked and didn't complain after the fact.

I know, I know, I know...
I am a member of a few different forums for other things and there is always a neb that comes on and asks a question that has been beat to death.
I have heard that God kills a kitten ever time someone post a thread before doing a search on what you are trying to get answered. So for my sake, God's sake and that poor kitten sake, I did read through a lot of post before I had the sack to post this question
I am posting this question because there seems to be a lot of different answers to a lot of different questions, so, I was hoping for very direct answers to these questions that I know have been asked plenty of times...
Here it goes...
I have purchased the HTE EVO w/ android 2.2 and I have had it for about 2 weeks.
I want to root my phone, which is my first ever smart phone.
This is what I would like to happen...
1) I want to be able to have the restore point so that I can flash my phone back to stock so that if something happens the warranty will still be good.
* Does this save on my home pc or sdcard? Or Both?
I have read that you need to download here not there(ruu...clockworks/rom manager)...no here not there...If you download anything but this you will not be able to get it back to the stock setting and Sprint will know you have rooted the phone...The whole thing started to get a little confusing.
I am a very simple person so I am hoping for a very simple answer, if there is one.
1) How do I root my HTC EVO that has the android 2.2?
2) How do I make sure that I can have a recovery point incase I mess it up (brick, etc...)
3) How do I make sure that I can flash my phone back to the original settings just incase I have to send it in to be fixed for some reason, which rom manager lets me do this?
4) Is it legal to do this?
5) What might be the biggest no-no to do before, during and after you root your phone?
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.
Visit the wiki, that should answer most of your answers.
1. Rooting voids warranty
2. Always perform a nand backup if you want to revert to your previous state.
Visit the wiki, the instructions are simple.
EDIT: Actually the wiki will answer all of your answers.

Sorry for the silly ? But what is the wiki?
It is a sticky in Android Development called Evo Wiki. You have to put effort in searching, I believe in you!

Goddamit don't try to root new evos wih unrevoked or you could be bricked for eva!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it could be impossible for you to root because you ran unrevoked, but might as well give it a try. Gtalk, email, and Im are all [email protected] and like I said earlier, rooting evos seems to be my job.
Ok...
I am a new b at this. How can I get my evo rooted?
I noticed not to use unrevoked, but that is the only thing out there when I do a search.
Can someone please point me to the right dirction. some idiot proof instructions, videos, etc...
Thank you in advance.

DO NOT RUN UNREVOKED OR YUO COULD PERMANENTLY CORRUPT YOUR PHONE!!!!! at the moment, there is no brainless way of doing it. you need to manually set up the adb and usb drivers, and then do some coding work, along with downloading like 1/3 gig of files.
OK. Just got my evo 4G last night (6/20/2011). It came with 2.3.3 on it. I want to root it.. seems not possible. So ive heard you should flash it back to 2.2.x for you to be able to root it. Wellllll this is alot different then my samsung captivate which was cake walk. Does any one have any ideas/link/how too's on how to do this? is it possible?
Thanks, Matt.

Don't think it's possible with a new device. If your security level is set so s-off from being opreviously rooted then you can downgrade, but with a new phone already sporting 2.3 I don't think there's currently a root solution. Be patient is the only advice at this point.

Not possible. The only people that have been able to do this had rooted their phone previously using unrevoked forever and have s-off. You are going to have to wait for an exploit.
damn. Hopefully its out before july 18th lol. I kinda need it rooted by then... damn Thanks for the help tho

HTC locked the bootloader that came with the OTA which means thats no bueno for us lol. Unless HTC sends out an update that unlocks the bootloader or devs find an exploit (loophole) it could take MONTHS to achieve root.
Hi guys I need your help! I know this should be in a Q&A but i didnt see one and I think it is better suited on here than general. I achieved root friday as others did and have been messing around with the phone since. I somehow managed to put a ROM from the S2 international on my phone and lost the backup of the original file. I know, I know it's been a long weekend so bare with me. Is there any way to get back to the way it was with full root access? Or is a new phone in the near future. Please feel free to facepalm I already have many times. Thanks for any info that could help me out.

Thanks in advance
..
Okay here is what I have tried so far, Superoneclick gets to step 7 waiting on device and hangs up. Have tried the Zurg rush tool, when it attempts to do an adb remount it fails with a msg operation not permitted. So I'm stuck now, so anyone with some ideas or insight please chime in, thanks
Just another update the UniversalAdroot apk does not work, anyone with any ideas?
Still looking for help, since this phone is relatively inexpensive, there is going to be a lot of them out there. And a lot of people looking to root them. Just hoping someone will give me assistance as this will also be solution for others as well.

Well at least your thread pulls up when running a Google search for rooting this phone. Did you try the CyanogenMod instructions for the ZTE Blade? Thats the only other suggestion I have since I don't own one yet.
Post back here if you have any luck. I might just get one as a spare.

Hi
So far, anyone found a way to root the ZTE V768 (Concord) ?
Anyway to upgrade to 3.0?
Thanks
Michel
I too would like to see this rooted. Then maybe I can delete some of those factory installed apps I would never use.
ZTE lists a way to manually upgrade the firmware for a Concord (V768) with a PC running Windows. Maybe it can be used somehow to root this device?
I can't post the link because I'm a new user, but just search for the Concord on the ZTE USA website.

, but this does not look like a OS upgrade, only a PC Driver update
I will try it and see if it affects the phone.
I have asked T-mobile to get the Concord unlocked, they couldn't but required an answer from ZTE directly...I should get something next week only!
So did anyone figure out how to get this phone unlocked?
BTW I'm surprised how little support there is for this phone considering it's the cheapest tmobile android option by far.
ROOTED!!
For those looking to root their ZTE Concord I have successfully rooted it using the ZTE Score option! Working on installing the Clockwork mod now and I think I'm going to tinker with the JellyBlast ROM for the Galaxy Y considering these phones are fairly similar
nvm on last post its installed su but did not install the binaries

Alright I tried rooting with update.zip for the Galaxy Pocket considering these phones have similar hardware but still no go! :crying: Has anyone had any luck?
Hello everyone, I bought the M8 yesterday from verizon and I updated it 4.4.4 which I may regret once I find out the answer to this. Is there a root method and bootloader unlock for Software version 3.28 by any chance? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Also I have tried sunshine with no luck. Otherwise I would gladly pay the $25 for it.
Thanks,

Your going to have to wait I think, could be wrong though. All the rooting methods and s-off methods have been tweaked on the the earlier version of the phone software, so until someone finds a hole in the new ota I think I can honestly say no. Read through the Verizon thread, could be some clues there. You could try downgrading the os but then theres the new hboot. I don't know much about Verizons security, seems to be very weak compared to the international variety, they always get unlocked etc first from what I can gather. I could be totally wrong lol, there maybe an unlock hack available that works, never owned Verizon so need to research.
