[Q] Installing Leedroid ROM - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I know this is probably an easy and simple question for everyone. But how do i go about installing a new ROM when i already have one on there. I have the Coolsense ROM on there at the moment and i want to go and install the latest Leedroid ROM. How do i go about doing this? This is probably a simple question but i really dont want to risk bricking my phone.
Thanks in advance

you can often find instructions in the opening post of the rom thread, boot into recovery and do a full wipe, make sure your sd card is partitioned appropriately if using data2sd or a2sd, make sure the zip you want to flash is on your sd card and click flash from zip file and choose the leedroid rom, that should be it..

[Q] Flashing a stock ROM via SD card?

Hey guys, I have flashed my custom ROM using unrEVOked, I am happy. But I want to install Amon RA over Clockwork Mod Recovery, however it just keeps hanging and won't load onto the phone.
EddyOS suggested to another member reinstalling the stock OS, however HTC Sync is probably the worst program known to mankind and it won't stay connected to the Desire long enough to boot up the RUU and install I keep getting an error and it disconnects from the phone.
My question is, can I boot the RUU from the SD card and skip using HTC Sync? I know it's not a zip, and as far as I know a zip is the only way to update via the SD card. The contents of the RUU cannot seem to be extracted either, I'm at a bit of a loose end.
*edit* Before posting I had a final search and found this post, will that apply to an O2 ROM? More specifically the renaming of the RUU to 'PB99IMG.zip'?
Can someone confirm it is actually possible to flash a ROM from the SD card? Surely you must be able to?
Does Rom manager not have an option to switch to amon ra?

Yes it is possible just download the ROM zip and put it into your sdcard.
Then reboot in recovery mode and go where it says install zip from sd card, choose the zip file and that will be it.
Remember to wipe cache and data before, and if wished to back up the ROM you have before installing the new one.
Hope this helps
However if it is not a zip file then I do not really know if it is possible or not

Hi Albalaji,
In answer to your question:
You have two options.
If you are installing a newer version of the same ROM (i.e. going from Android RevolutionHD 12.0.09 to Android RevolutionHD 12.0.13), I would think it fine to just place the new ROM zip file on your device, and using ClockworkMod Recovery, install-from-zip over the top of your current ROM. You can "format Data" in between to be safe.
Reason is, the new ROM will most likely alter the exact same files and keep things in a similar file structure.
However, if you're installing a completely different ROM, e.g. going from Android RevolutionHD to LeeDroid, I would recommend reverting back to Stock PD98IMG.zip. Safer this way, in case there is conflicts. You won't have to redo the Visionary, Radio S-Off or Eng S-Off processes though - once these are done, they are done for good.
Hope this helps!!
thanks alot ..
that What i meant..
Pls for Second paragraph.. if i have different Rom,Can u explain to me all steps if u don't mind
and again thanks ..

Woah man, there is absolutely no advantage in returning to stock inbetween roms, its just a waste of time, all you need is to do a full wipe.....

Copy the new rom to the root of your sd card, put the card in your phone and boot into recovery, go to the mounts and storage menu and wipe every partition apart from.sd card, go back, go to install .zip from sd card, choose your new rom and flash it

you mean, including boot and sd-ext. I never wiped these partitions...
and by the way, i can see a point in flash the stock again, cause somehow is the only way to be sure that everything was formated, you get unroot, stock splash image etc...

Need to reinstall stock rom(maybe flashing a custom one)

Hello all,
I am running stock rom rooted, version .5.
Due to some FCs happening I want to reinstall the stock rom.
How should I do it?
I don't really remember..
My phone was unbranded when I bought it.
Just running the RUU of the latest stock rom will do the work?
Or do I have to unroot it firstly?
Also, I have created a partition (ext3 - 512MB) at my sd (8GB - Class 6)..and I would like to be able to install apps there...I think it's called A2SD..
How can I do that?
I am taking a backup with TB and will backup contacts and anything else I need.
Should I take a nandroid backup too?
Additionally, in order to decide which rom would be better for me, is there any way to try custom roms, such as running a virtual android device at my pc?
Thank you for your time!
To use the A2SD+, you need to be rooted.
So you can either run a RUU (unroots your phone - then root it again) or search the Android developement for stock rooted ROMs with A2SD+.
If you choose the 2nd one, just boot into recovery wipe everything and then flash the ROM and then restore everything with Titanium.
Here's a stock rooted one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
Nandroid is always good, does not hurts when you have a backup
Thank you for your reply!
To start with, I haven't flashed through recovery any rom yet and haven't wiped data, and thus I am really inexperienced with these.
So I could download this ->"2.29.405.2/5 INIT.D ROM v3.0 | v3.1 - NEW!"? (The version .5) with init.d so that I can install the script of A2SD+ ("A2SD+ (1.4) - v3 compatible", right?
Do I have to flash a radio too?
I think I've read here somewhere that if the radio you're having is working properly then stick with it..If I wipe everything will I still have to install a radio?
So if I download this version what are the steps that I should follow?
1)Backup everything I need with TB and nandroid.
2)Copy the file into the root of sd.
3)Boot into recovery.
4)Wipe everything->wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition?
5)And then which option is to flash the rom? The "install zip from sdcard"?
After this procedure what else do I have to keep in mind?
What about this "Additionally, in order to decide which rom would be better for me, is there any way to try custom roms, such as running a virtual android device at my pc?" ?
Yes, that's the ROM, and you will be able to use A2SD+ with the init.d ROM.
Radio is not needed. Even if you wipe everything, it remains, because it is on a different partition. So wiping everything is safe, radio remains.
The steps are good, but before flashing ("install zip from SD Card") make sure you toggle verification off (it's in the same menu) - just in case.
Altough I strongly recommend to run through those custom ROMs, you'll not regret it (If you choose a stable one from a well known dev).
Yeah, the virtual android emulator. Wanted to write about it, but forgot it after searching for the ROM I Know it is possible, never tried it.
Here are some links, tough:

I have flashed the one with the init.d..but into Settings > data I can only see as internal memory 120+MB...
TB though shows the free data on the sd extern..
How can I be sure what is correct? :S
Also I tried leedroid and cyanogen mod for a little..but leedroid was partially tranlsated to greek and cyanogen mod does not have sense which I seem to have got used to it..
Also, about the emulation..I was stuck at a part where I have to create a system.img file of the rom...:S
1. try to do the three wipes.. wipe factory settings, wipe cache, wipe dalvik and then reboot. perhaps you won't have fc's after that.
2. if you run a stock ruu again - you will lose root and s-on will return. this is the way to unroot essentially. check unlockr for details on that. you can use a universal ruu from htc to do that if you have to. but if you try 1. first, then you won't have to do this. i would suggest NOT unrooting just for a few fc's.
you will solve the problem by installing a different rom. now onto that issue about app2sd...
if you want app2sd.. i would suggest looking into data2sd. i'm on rcmix-hd or rcmix-s-w.1.1 and it's very nice. if you want to use data2sd you can also add this feature. pm me about that. one proviso, your sd-card must be a class-6 or higher to really enjoy data2sd ... i have a class-4 and the speed is not bad. but as the card becomes fragmented, i am sure the speed will suffer.
good luck enjoy your desire.
I have done the 2 wipes except the dalvik cache before installing the rom.
I haven't used a stock RUU.
I have downloaded the v3 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997 with init.d support.
I will stick with app2sd because I read that the sd wears off with all that writing :S
About the roms:
Yesterday I checked Leedroid but the thing that I didn't like was the partial localization..
I am using greek language.
Is there any way to solve that?
Also which other roms are more stable and worth the try?
Additionally, at the thread of the ROM I installed it says "Note that framework-res is already deodexed in this ROM".
This means that I can flash any notification bar icon I want and also the super cicle battery mod?
Thank you for your replies!
Anyone please? :S

With a deodexed rom you can apply global themes, fonts and mods.
With an odexed rom this is not possible, unless the mod is appropriately altered.

[Q] Flashing New ROM

When I have Rooted my HTC Desire and I am ready to Flash a new ROM I see I have to Back Up my original ROM to the Root of an SD Card and Download the new Rom to here also. Can I do this on my Original SD Card or do I need to purchase a new one. Chris
You should do that on your SD card and then put it on your computer

No you do not. Your backup will be named differently.
Make sure you do you wipes of caches, and Delvik cache (advanced) before flashing.
Also, it is wise to install Rom Manager, and flash your recovery before you flash your new ROM.
Oh, and seeings you have a Desire, it is advisable to make a Gold Card of your sd in case you wish to go back to stock, or problems arise. Do this first before flashing.
Do NOT install the piece of crap that is ROM Manager. It's a waste of time.
Learn to use the custom recovery properly (be it CWM or AmonRA) and you'll find it simple as anything

I see somebody has had some bad experiences.
Personally, I use it to flash my recovery. As for a ROM, I always copy directly to the SD.
But, everybody is entitled to their opinion. And in this forum, there are LOTS of them

Installing ICS rom on HTC Desire.

Hi,
I have rooted my HTC desire and have S-OFF enabled.
Now I wanted to installed sandvold's ICS rom, but I dont have a clue where to start and I am not attempting to do anything in fear of brick.
I have backuped my phone using titanium backup. Installed Rom Manager.
Now I'm just unsure about installing the rom. I read you needed to install a radio.zip, but I cant see anything like that in the ICS rom.
Also not sure about the micro SD situation, as I'm sure you need a partition for it, so not sure where to start with that.
Basically, I just need a guide to help me with installing this rom and taking all the precautions along the way.
Thanks!
By guide, I dont neccessarily mean for you to make a guide, just a link to one if there is one you know of.
Thanks again.
Okay... umm ditch rom manager would be my first suggestion.
Then check my sig and install 4ext recovery. There is an app on page1 of thread to install it. Its better than rom manager.
Then use 4ext recovery to create a new nandbackup of your current rom.
Then copy ALL contents of your sd card to your computer.
Then use 4ext recovery to create an EXT partition on your sdcard. This will wipe everything on the SD.
Put all your files back to the sd card and the zip file of the rom you wish to flash. And flash the ROM.
About the radio, don't touch the radio for now. Unless you are running froyo you don't need to mess with it yet. But if needed my sig would point you to where the radio files are.
Whats your current radio version anyway?
