[Q] Quick Sense Question... - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has the 2.3.3 been rooted yet?
JOKING! My real question is I'm trying to make my unrooted evo bearable atm and downloaded ADW. When I'm using ADW as my launcher, it's very laggy and stuttering. Is there a way to stop sense from running?
I tried Settings > Applications > Manage and ending the HTC Sense, but it just relaunches.
Any Ideas?

No its part if the system you cannot end it

Thanks for the quick response. Since I can't end it, any good ideas on getting ADW to run better?

Sorry I don't, have you tried any other launcher? Or do you prefer adw? Adw would lag on my epic slightly but not launcher pro
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App

Nah, I didn't think of Launcher Pro. Put it on and it don't lag like ADW. I do prefer ADW, but for the time being this'll work. Only need 3 home screens since I don't have many apps.
Thanks!

[Q] Best Launcher for CM7???

hey people,
i was just wondering... i like my cm7 rom, but i do get bored quickly of the desktop and the same old routes to things.. i always like to change around when i like.
any ideas? screenshots or links will help
thanks a bunch for any help!!!
I use launcherpro, which I paid for a long time ago. I wish touchwiz wasn't exclusive to samsung, because I really starting liking it on my vibrant before I got my G2.
I do NOT like zeam or adwlauncher that comes with CM7. I end up installing lancherpro and use titanium backup to uninstall adwlauncher.
One good thing with LauncherPro does that any other launcher doesn't is the unread gmail count on the home screen.
So, if I had my pick, I would pick TouchWiz, but since I can't use it for my G2, then I'm stuck with my second choice 'LauncherPro'
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Using LauncherPro now but looking into that Launcher 7, looks interesting, highly customizable.
LauncherPro
cheers for all your replies i will thank you all !!
okay well im gonna do a nandroid backup, install launcher pro and use titanium to uninstall adw... you gotta love titanium backup!!!
then if i dont like it i can always revert back using clock work mod!
i may also try that launcher 7, but ill hang fire and read some reviews
cheers everyone!!
Touchwiz launcher has been ripped from galaxy s phones and works very good on my g2. I really didn't like it much though, so I use adw ex or gingerbread launcher2.apk from nexus s roms. Those 2 are super smooth.
Adw that comes with CM is slower than the others, but if you download adw notifier (free on market), you can get the unread popup on the icon. LP is cool, but I find ex and gingerbread launchers more.

How about the Stock Gingerbread Launcher from the Nexus Phones?
cheers guys ive thanked you all, i have gone with the launcher pro, but im gonna do a nandroid backup and try all of them
thanks!!
defiantly try the stock luncher if you are any type of purist. yea it removers theme chooser but just open the cm7 zip file and you can extract the apk files out if you want them. i really dont care. the only thing i miss from adw is the swipe anywhere on the screen options. and the hide status bar. but i think that launcher is the best so its a small price to pay. i also miss custom icons. but once again. speed and stability is more important to me.
I paid for LauncherPro a while ago, but GO Launcher is slowly starting to win me over.

For me, ADW EX is the way to go, hands down. It's worth the $3.
I personally do not like all of the things that come with EX, I have a themed version of the Gingerbread Launcher. It's themed for the guy's theme who is above me =p
When im on cm7 I use ADW with the DroidX theme. Looks great!

Adw ex FTW. also go Laucher is pretty sweet, but adw is flawless with performance

Id say ADWex.. but if your lookin for somethin completely different.. then launcher7.. its smooth, nice, and customer tiles are easy to make. its been what I've been stuck on lately..

I personally love GO Launcher. It is sort of a cross between ADW EX and Launcher Pro, with some new and different things as well. It's also extremely stable, which is something I can't say about Launcher Pro (at least that was the case last year when I used it heavily).
Try android seven pro if u are into windows... some may not like the thought of windows on a linux device but its good for something different. I bounce between adw ex launcher7 and android seven because I get bored easily

Turn off sense?

I'm getting really tired of HTC Sense, and I don't really want to mess around with launchers at the moment. I'm wanting to basically disable Sense and revert it to the basic android look. Anyone know if this is possible on and unrooted Evo 4G running 2.3.3? And if not, is there a really good launcher that will imitate that look?
well to start, if you "turn off" sense you will need a launcher. Launcher 2 would look the most like what i think you are looking for. just remove all widgets from homescreens on sense and select that launcher as the default.
or
you could flash one of these
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092221
they have most of sense removed.
or
try an aosp rom
I second Launcher2. I was never a fan of the bloatware we know as sense.

I tried looking up Launcher 2 in the market, but i couldnt find it.
Yea me too. Try Gingerbread Launcher free or Android 2.3 Launcher (Home).
Alternatives are ADW, Go Launcher and Launcher Pro. There are also themes for the launchers to customize them further.
The following are themes to make the launchers look more like stock gingerbread
ADW - here or here
Go Launcher - only found 1 theme but had bad reviews
Launcher Pro - here

I'd recommend Launcher Pro, there are tons of free themes for it and you can customize almost everything. Both Launcher Pro and ADW are both good, I would try both (they are free in the market) and see which one you like better. I used sense exclusively until I found Launcher Pro, I preferred it over ADW. If you want to completely get rid of sense, then the only option is to root and check out the senseless ROMs that are posted in the development section, or the AOSP ROMs.
Edit: I didn't fully read the post lol

Tried ADW but went back to stock.

I'm using Go Launcher.
Was using ADW EX, but switched back to stock because of better formatting with honeycomb widgets (mainly landscape, portrait scaling) and a couple other tiny, but annoying graphical bugs.

Launcher Pro. I like the sliding app drawer.
I was using ADW, but it started to force-close too often.
I tried SPB Shell 3D. Looks awesome and fluid, but (always a but), the launcher often has to load when coming out of an app. Takes about 3 secs but kills the experience. Went back to stock. Would like something Metro like, though.
i tried go launcher and launcher pro but nothing is as smooth as the stock one. i guess ill stick with the stock one for now until there's a better alternate.

I've tried Launcher Pro, Regina 3D, ADW and Go Launcher EX. I like Go Launcher EX best and I am still using it. Regina 3D was a bit wonky.
Just got my A100 yesterday and tried adw, launcher pro and go launcher ex and found I like go Pilcher the best.

I get best results using stock launcher. I used ADW EX for a bit but went back to stock. As for everyone using Go Launcher, do you guys know whether or not the Go Team has disabled the data collecting feature on Go Launcher? There was a big fiasco concerning security a while ago due to that.

I use Go Launcher. Is there a way but to share saved configurations to share with other ppl? Maybe make a thread about your creations.
I LOVE to tweak around, but mostly end up having the worst result a tech Dev would have to decrypt in order to set it back to default
Some have better luck in making epic launchers

I am one of the two people who created Windows Phone Android (getting decommissioned and maybe opensource soon). I have Metro Launcher running on my tablet. Yes I am pretty anal about exact look and feel and this one looks/feel like my Build Windows 8 tablet. I am not sure if I want to release it for public use though. WPA was great but too much diverse hardware made it very hard to support.
I use a old version of ADWLauncher EX. The new version is really great for my phones, but gives two menu icons for my A100. It gives tons of customization options while staying stock looking if you want

I like the stock launcher just fine. I haven't tried any others because I haven't seen anything in the descriptions that sounded like they did anything better.
Same with widgets. I have yet to find any widget packs that in the screen caps look nicer or do much of anything useful we cant already do. A few extra widgets I do use and like are the dictionary.com "word of the day", InTune, Dolphin HD bookmarks but those come with the specific apps.
Launcher pro

[Q] Why use any launcher over GO Launcher on Rooted Phone (Calk EG4T V 1.6 ROM))?

Can anyone help me with why I should use any launcher over GO Launcher? I have rooted and installed the new Calkulin V1.6 ROM.
Thanks!
Personally I feel as if Go Launcher was not specialized for Android 4.0, so I stuck with NOVA launcher. BTW you should give that a shot, I didn't like it at first, but I grew into and now its running great. I also run Calk's E4GT 2 v1.6, and it is great. It should come with NOVA launcher if you didn't apply the barebones converter.
Here's a link if you did:

You can't transfer screens across different launchers, at least not to my knowledge, the format isn't really standardized. If you don't see the app drawer, hold onto any empty space in the launcher until a menu comes up. Select Nova Actions and the app drawer should be there. You can drag that into the dock so it stays there.
Go feels bloated and slow to me, switch back to regular or tw and its faster and smoother.
I use adw ex because go lags n freezes and doesnt have the draw animations I like

Really? Go never lags or freezes and I have about 30 themes installed and tons of apps.

I don't like GO because it looks tacky and it's really bloated. All the widgets just seem to suck battery. ADW EX all the way

Actually I take that back. I'm loving Launcher 7 right now!

Trebuchet or Nova
If you want as close to pure ICS as possible, download the Trebuchet launcher. If you want a few more features, I like Nova Prime. I've tried Go! Launcher several times, and although themes are plentiful and there are some impressive transitions, I always get bored of the fluff and extra menus and choose something more minimalist. In my case, I flashed to ICS because I wanted to have a simpler bloat-free experience, and intentionally adding more seems counterproductive.
If you're rooted, I say why use any rom other than blu kuban? Best experience I've had to date.

Apex to me seems to be the best as of right now and really stable. I even bought the pro key
I use Nova Launcher because it's really smooth, polished, and has a ton of features. I used to use GO but it has sooo much bloatware. Why does a Launcher need to have its own App store, Lockscreens, messages, etc.? GO runs really smooth, but the features and different aspects just make it look unorganized in my opinion and cluttered.
I used Apex launcher (Pro) because I'm running ICS as well and not only is is built for ICS (love the widget drawer!), but damn near has the same customization features of ADW Ex and it's quite speedy and smooth (which I use when I'm on GB).

Stock rooted running ADW?

Anyone having any luck with this? I'm running rooted stock right now and ADW launcher seems REALLY buggy. It's freaking out with the default dialer app, and the scrolling is abysmal. I miss my custom look though.
Anyone have any launchers that work well with the note 2?
Are you using ADW EX or the free version. I cannot vouch for the free version but I love my ADW EX.

I'm running the ex I have no problem paying up for good software I was trying to run it on Venum Ice a few weeks ago and was having troubles. Going to try it right now and see how Macksrom is working as well. Just waiting for backup to save.
I have used both adw launchers with no problems. Using ex now.
I stopped using ADW and started using Nova after ADW had some issues. Nova is similar to ADW, and I'm very pleased with its capabilities and performance.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
I also had the same problems you described running ADW EX over stock rooted. Ended up just going back to TouchWiz. Other than general nuttiness and lag, my biggest problem was the alarm indicator wouldn't show, so I was worried that ADW EX was interfering with that somehow and my phone wouldn't wake me up in the morning. If nothing else, it was nice to have scrolling wallpaper for a little while.
I might try Nova to see if it's improved from the last time I tried it, but I'm pretty used to ADW EX by now so I hope the dev corrects the issues with an update soon.
I actually switched to Apex and it's been working great. Even held me off from skinning a new rom........ so far
