Has anyone else had any issues with Tomtom Navigator 6 since upgrading to WM6 (offical SEA ROM)?
Under my old buggy WM5 ROM, it was perfect. As part of the WM6 upgrade I reinstalled it, and not it is unusably slow. It takes about 5 seconds between screen refreshes etc... you miss your turns by the time they are announced.
Does anyone know the cause or fixes? I've done a forum search and the problem has been reported on a couple of threads, but no real solution.
Some initial questions:
Under WM6, are people using the GPS manager in system settings? Or just pointing TT6 at the COM port directly? (What should the baud rate be set to?)
Is tngpseng.exe still required (never been entirely sure what this does exactly)
Does running it from the storage card (SanDisk 4GB) cause any performance hit? (I'm hoping not as my device memory is full)
The other chance I made is upgrading to the latest Australian maps. (Sinsis v675?) Are these known to be worse performance wise?
Does anyone else have Hermes, WM6 (official), TTN6, latest Australia maps working? can you post your settings?
Any help greatly appreciated!

Not related to WM6 but have you checked the number of Points of Interest that TT6 is trying to display. I use TT6 and have noticed no problems with WM6 so far - but regardless of ROM I found that unless I turned off the POIs that TT6 slowed right down and kept freezing.

Thanks Tony. I've turned them all off except the speed/red-light cameras and it does seem to have helped. (I won't know 100% until I take it out in the car, but it seems much faster at home on my balcony!)
The strange thing is I many POIs enabled on the previous install under WM6/older maps. Maybe the newer map is larger or something.
Does anyone know if custom POIs are more performance intensive than the build in ones?
I've had some kind of issue with TomTom since upgrading from Black Dymond (first to Magik and now to Satin). On the first upgrade I had to reregister my unit with my account to get access to my plus content (device ID change).
Now, I intermittently get a warning that it cannot find some file. I can't replicate it reliably and haven't had a chance to note the missing file. I suspect it has something with how TomTom is accessing info on the card.
My problem only presents itself when shutting down, so it's not a real issue for me. If it was, like yours is, I would first try increasing your caches. If that doesn't work, try going into the TomTom manager console when synced with the computer and remove everything (program, maps, voices, etc.) from your device/card and then reinstall it (make sure you have your disk or a backup, plus your registration code). If it has anything to do with lost file links, this should solve it theoretically.
I suspect your issues are due to either caching or lost links in TomTom itself, or both.
Tomtom has some problems with some wm6 roms not all.
My experience:
It worked fine with black dymond. No slowdown. No Problem.
It was painfully slow with black majik
It was OK with VP3g's v2.0 but after I added HTC home plug it slowed down considerably
Currently I am running latest Black Satin and TomTom runs just fine, stable, superfast, no freezes. This time I am going to stay away from HTC home plug.
You do not have shut down all of the 'nice to haves' (POI's) in such unnecessary and draconian fashion, quote "have you checked the number of Points of Interest that TT6 is trying to display".
Like Quist, I beleive the build of the ROM is much more at issue.
From my observations - Dopod / Black Satin / Sleuth's and Black Dymond are not at a problem.
I have noted significant refresh delays when using Schaps and Black Majik.
Good luck.
I've never seen TomTom run as fast as it does on my phone with vp3G's 3.0 WM6 rom.
I'm running TomTom version 6.100 (8330)
Im using Schaps 3.57a with TT6. So fast. Cold boot around 10s to 20s. Thanks
let me explain what happened my roomate gave me a sd card with tom tom 6. He has a mogul, dont know where he got the software so I inserted this card on my 8525 and it installed automaticaly it worked fine the first time with my keychain gps receiver theN I had one of those winmo crashes so I soft reseted my phone after that tried tom tom again it would not conect to the receiver no mater what I did. I supposed it would be just a ttom issue but I was wrong it would not work with google maps or live search I never had this problem before then I hid the tom tom files so it would not instal itself hard reseted.. bum back to normal gmaps and live search work again the next time I soft reset the same problem reapears doesnt work any more so I asumed if I flashed a diferent rom the problem would completely desapear but I was wrong. it works the first time after the first soft reset it doesnt work any more Im thinking about trowing this **** away have been flashing roms like crazy, not paying atention in class, not doing my homework,Im getting sick and not solbing my problem. are the bluetooth drivers ruined? i do not understand this issue.
Hi all,
from few days ago my TOM TOM on my trinity is stopped to work.
I'm using ROM: 3.51 Claros and 1.46.00.11 as Radio.
It is very strange because suddenly it stops to work. Using other GPS software, like win fast navigator or GPSTest, it can find some satellites for a bit but without fixing them.
What should be the problem?
There is my friend having the same configuration (radio and rom) ant it works properly.
I would like to install the original rom (WM5) or install the latest radio (1.56...), what is your suggestion?
Regards
Leandro

I have a Loox PDA and have had the same sort of problem, either taking a long time and getting no fix despite seeing lots of satellites, or getting a fix from just a few satellites but with a positional error of about 300 metres. In each case the problem appears to be a corruption of the satellite data in the GPS "chip"/memory. In the case of my device there is a rear cover switch which is a bit unreliable, but I have also had a loose battery. Both of these cause corruption in the GPS chip/memory. Taking the battery out and reseting the device cures it every time. I wonder if you have a similar problem? It doesn't just affect TomTom but any software you have running. Restarting in this way can eliminate that as a cause.

Hi fingerstoo and tnx very much for the reply.
The problem come out also running other GPS software...maybe is a GPS issue.
I tried to take off the battery for 8 hours and I fixed the problem but only for 1 time. After the rebooting, the gps fixing issus came out again.
Currently I installed a cooked rom, I would like to install the original one (WM5) and test again. What's your feeling?

Hi ordnael, I think it is definitely worth going back to WM5, even if only to try to solve the problem. I suggest that after you go back and with your device in "factory state" i.e. no additional software installed at all, re-install TomTom afresh from card/file or CDROM. Do not use backup software to restore TomTom. This should eliminate the possibility of hardware/software settings, or installed software interferring with the GPS.
If it works, then you do not have a hardware problem. If it doesn't work, then you obviously do have a hardware problem.
If it works, then gradually re-install all your other software, starting with any other GPS software first and see if it interferes or stops TomTom working.
Are you using TT6 or TT7? Oh, and I don't think the radio function should have anything to do with the GPS, however, I don't have your device so I may be wrong......

Tnx very much for your reply.
I would like to update you about the latest changes!
(Just to clarify that the problem raises also during execution of other GPS software, so this is not a TOM TOM issue!)
Anyway, I removed the battery for 8 hours (to reset the GPS) and then the TOM TOM and "GPSTest" software worked fine. 10 sec to fix the satellite (excellent). But after 4/5 hours, I tried to run the GPS Software and the problem come back again , so I starting to think that GPS works fine but only for a bit! Should be overheat problem or client software problem... what you think?
Ciao

You failed to say whether you reverted to the old operating system,WM5 or "factory state" with no other programs installed! If you did not do this then it could still be "other" software or settings causing GPS to fail after a time. For example, some other program could be gradually filling up memory and causing the GPS data to be corrupted or lost, or some interaction between running programs or processes.
If your results ARE with a nearly empty/reverted operating system device as I described previously, then it does look to me that you do have a hardware problem. As you say, it may be an overheating issue or an internal circuit intermittent fault that gets worse with time, either memory, GPS chip(s) or circuit board connections inside.
But I stress, you must try with a totally clean and reverted device to be absolutely certain.
Hi,
I've search the forum to find my answer but with no result... Let me explain my problem:
I'm using Christians WM6.5.1 ROM (latest build). Everything works fine except TT7. I've tried several caps but none of them works perfect... The thing is that it won't recognize the build in GPS module. The app says "No GPS device!"
I allready tried to set the settings to "Another NMEA receiver" on the GPS-baudspeed of 57600 and COM:4... But it won't work...
With my TyTnII I didn't experience any problems but I'm pretty desperate to find the solution so I won't need my old Garmin Nav.System any more.
Does someone has an answer to my problem? Or maybe the same problem?
Please help!
hi.
i am also using christian's rom and i am using tomtom 7 without any problem.did you update your gpsfix data?use quick gps and update your data.if you cant get proper signal it will show 'no gps found'.once you pick up the signal it will work properly.
good luck.
Well the main problem is that the gps device that is build in the xperia x1 wil have to find the gps locations..
The first time it will take about 2 to 10 minutes before it finds the locations. After that first time it will take a few seconds to 30 seconds before it finds it's locations..
I had the same problem and it drove me crazy untill I found 2 posts on the internet that saved my life.
Just place your Xperia somewhere on a table in the garden and wait for it to load.
Greetings from Holland.
If I'm not wrong you should use the internal GPS and set the baudrate to 4800. 57600 is way too large.
Okay, I don't use Win 6.5, but also using 6.1 57600 is not working.
Hi,
I've tried your tip but without any results... TomTom tells me that there were no satalites which I was conected to but still got my location pretty pointed...
I drove the entire way on my TomTom but without GPS fix... I downloaded the newest position with QuickGPS before I ran TT7.
Could this be a bug or is it locating me on another way...?
i am using tomtom 7.915.9196.vga_black.cab without any problem.which radio version are you using?seems you are having very weird problem.good luck.
I use TTN_7.916.9189 and there are not problems
got christians rom too and tomtom 7.xx runs better than under windows 6.1 stock rom
Got it working... Don't ask how I did it Cause I really have no clue...!
But I'm really happy it finally works! Now I've got to see how I can get it into my "On The Road" panel to set it as my default navigator
also using christian's latest clean WWE rom.
it does find some satelites in tomtom 7.9xxxxxx, but still not possible to navigate or find a way.
what did you do?
i even let tomtom run till my battery got empty, but no luck?
maybe its the radio, still got the old one i think?
going to update to 7.915.9196.vga_black.cab now, hope that helps

Hello together,
i have my desire now since nearly two month. Im relly happy with the phone. But one problem:
GPS is not working, i don't get a GPS fix.
It didn't work as I had the phone completely new neither now after i rooted it. I already tried a couple of different radios but my phone doesn't find any satelites.
Does anybody else has the problem? Is this just a software bug or is the hardware damaged?
If I have to send it back to HTC, do you know how long does it take till i get my phone back? Im based in germany.
Thank you very much for your help!
best regards
Tom
I only have my desire 2 days now, it has a orange uk branded phone, so I unbranded it to a stock htc rom, and I have the same problem as you, it takes ages to lock a gps signal.
Today it took 30minutes to lock the gps signal on my ndrive.
I don't have a problem with my GPS on my Orange debranded Desire, what ROM are you debranding with?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I use this one because of the portuguese language:
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.1_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121684.exe
Do you use any program to help catch the gps signal?
Regards
I lost mine with a radio update, had to use 32.30.00.28U_405.00.11 to get GPS working again. Which radio do you have?
NDrive has problems locking with the Desire's GPS. Launch NDrive, press home button, enable the GPS and goto NDrive again. That works for me most of the times.
Or use Google Maps to get a fix and then launch NDrive.

Thanks, i will try that, as soon as I can I will report if it works.
Thanks again
I tried it with these radios:
32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11
32.37.00.32U_4.06.00.16_2
32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
And with none of them I got GPS fix.
I tried it also with differnt applications:
Google Maps
Navigon
GPS Status
GPS Test
But without success, no GPS fix at all
Oh by the way, i tried it also with the Stock ROM and with OpenDesire 1.4 and OpenDesire 1.5
€: I use now OpenDesire 2.1 with the newest Radio 32.42.00.32U_5.09.00.08
I still don't have any chance to find a satelite. Has anyone an idea to fix the problem?
i don't know if it's allowed on this board, i just wanted to push my message to the first page, after it was now on page 15. Perhaps anyone has an idea about fixing the problem.
Thank you!
All that worked for me was trying the radio I had originally (before I started playing around). You tried any of the older ones?
Hi,
I also now have a problem with GPS fix. First I have overheating & reboot problem, then MB were replaced & now I can't get fix (no satellites at view at all). I hope that this is software related (although I do not use GPS much). So probably somebody knew how to perform cold reboot of GPS sensor (I perform this with previous Touch Diamond to bring GPS back to life)?
