There was a project to port WP7, but I think it died

If I remember right, you can run Ubuntu through a virtual machine or something of the sort. Windows Phone 7 project died because of trolling and lack of support and was earlier stunted by the fact that there were only GSM phones at first.

(Idea) windows phone 7 port

Hello I was just wondering how hard do you think it would be to port the windows 7 os over to the G2? I'm not sure what the win 7 os supports. I'm sure it supports an arm processer. I don't know if there is any win 7 phones out there that have simular hardwere to this phone. Well tell me if you think this is a stupid idea or if it is possable

Besides the dificulty of working with a closed OS, Windows phone seven has some particular requirements of the hardware -- so I don't think it is likely.
No source code = virtually impossible.

Idea: You've already got a good OS on it. Don't waste time crippling it with TRASH. The typical move is to wipe the wimo (or wipo, or whatever the F they feel like calling that garbage now...) trash off hardware and replace it with android. THAT is a real upgrade.
Ah i forgot about it being closed sorce. Im sure someone is ripping it apart right now though lol

Yeah probably, but why would you want to downgrade?

Dualboot for Android? Not just WM?

Is it possible to boot up WM with my Verizon device?
I once had an iPhone on AT&T and I found a great dev who was actually rebuilding the iPhone as a Windows OS.
I love the feel of the Windows OS. Always have, always will.
My question: Does the Gen.Y swing both ways? Or is there a boot loader out there that works the same?

Google showed lots of results.... He's one of the many XDA links:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/rundroid-dual-boot-to-android-sd-or-windows-mobile-6/
That's just for the Windows phone.
I'm looking for boot loader that loads WM7 ON an Android device such as my dinc.
Is there such a thing?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
No it is not possible. Sorry.
it's not possible bc of a licensing issue. Android is open source so you can run it on anything as long as you put the time into development. Windows is only licensed to run on WM phones but WM phones can run Android bc Android is open source.

Wp8 Port?

Hopefully the idea isn't too offensive to the android community, but I'm wondering if this will be possible on the nexus considering Apollo will be supported on multi-core high-res devices.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Possible? Maybe, but wp8 iirc is going to be snapdragon s4 only.
Probable? No, there is no license for nexus and therefore illegal (warez).

KILL HIM WITH FIRE!!!
In all seriousness, doubtful. If you could even get it ported, you would no doubt run into Licence issues. I.e, the software would have to be licensed for use on the device, same as windows on a PC.

That's a disgusting thing to say. Wp8 eww

Oh, got it. Thanks for the help; I have always wondered why there were never any wp7 ports, but it makes sense. Aside from being completely sacrilegious, I can see the legal aspect as being a deterrent.

Isn't WP all closed source, + only made for 1 screen resolution?

Port Windows 8 phone
Hello ,
now serious , is it possible to port Windows 8 phone on any other android device , like Galaxy S , or S2 or S3 ??
I have a friend who has a Samsung Phone with this ROM , bought it like that and shows pretty.
I saw a youtube with an Galaxy ACE flashed via CWM with Windows 8 phone.
Please spare me the comments like " why would you do this " , " android is the best " and license crap.
You all know that more then the half of PCs in the world are running different forms of windows OS without a valid license.
I would just like to know if it is technical possible and if not why .... but pure technical not emotional or license reasons.
Thank u in advance.

Technically impossible for now, vastly different infrastructure that requires more than imaginable work to make it run. Only DFT (one of the most powerful teams in my knowledge) managed to port a partially-working WP8 for the HD2 - but then again, HD2 is originally a Windows device.
The "WP8" you've seen on some Android phones are most definitely just some heavily skinned Android ROMs. Don't bother.

If you could run another mobile OS on the Galaxy Nexus, what would it be?

I thought this would be a fun thread.
Firefox OS is already becoming a reality, btw. Somebody has already started porting it to the Gnex here, but beware, it's a pre-alpha.

That's silly. If I wanted another OS I wouldn't be on GNex, would I?

Well, that's the beauty of a Nexus, isn't it? You can flash so many different things with less problems than a non-nexus.

No, I get you, but that's not what I meant. If I wanted a windows os I would have bought a phone that already runs one. Same way, if it were possible to run android on iphone, I wouldn't buy iphone to do that. I would buy iphone to run ios, right?
Now, I do get that it's awesome to play around, have something different, impress your friends, etc, but I bought my phone to run android. that's me.

Any info about ubuntu on android.. i want to apply in my Galaxy Nexus.. interested

The reason I have a Nexus is that I want to run the latest version of Android. So, nothing.
I'd like to be able to try out windows phone, buy prob not as a daily driver. What I would like would be some sort of Ubuntu implementation where it ran both Ubuntu and android depending on whether it was docked or not.
I would want to stick to Android, but run it on Nokia hardware. No one comes close to their quality, albeit diminished as of late.

Web os or windows phone. Or Meego.
Definitely meego with a dalvik machine for android apps
I think Mozilla's B2G shows a lot of promise. I like the concept.
Erm... Kandy Kane maybe.
android features with iOS interface.....

Tizen for sure. Meego's real time multitasking was awesome. Same with Maemo.
W8 could be nice, but for that I'd probably prefer getting a w8 phone, from my experience with HD2,dual booting was annoying.

There are several apps on the play store that add Ubuntu or Debian to the gnex. My favorite one was Debian Kit, which let you put either Debian or Ubuntu on your phone side by side with Android. I'm not sure if it works with Jellybean, though. Really nice to have mc, vim or joe, GCC, package management, X, etc available.
Well... in smartphones we don't have many choice... So I would say windows 8, no windows phone I mean PC windows..

[Q] the way forward,,ubuntu

love my dhd , will be sad to see it go and will probably not buy htc again in protest of the ICS saga.
Anyways, seen this a good few months ago and wondering are we any closer to running ubuntu yet ?
http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/android
For me this seems to be the way forward
Multi-core req
I also love my DHD, but i seem that the ubuntu project requires a multicore (minimum dual) so I don't think this will be posible.

You seem to doubt the development team greatly. Whenever ubuntu for mobile become ever more popular or when a dev has the free time to work on a port it will be done.
There are many lower end devices that are not fully 1Ghz running android from its original (windows mobile) so relax and see;jelly bean and ics ports are still in swing
