[Q] Whats the best rom for stability and battery life? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently I am using RandomRom and it's not stable enough for me to be able to have it on my phone. But the thing is the last three roms I tried have all been like this. I would just go back to stock but the battery life won't cut it. So I want your opinion on what rom I put should on my phone. Thanks.

Sounds like you are running with journaling off. If you have an improper shutdowns on a ROM without journaling you will get corrupt data resulting in FCs. Get good data on your phone, pick a ROM and enable journaling and flash.

Assuming he's on the Eg22 random rom, he probably doesn't have journaling off since the ROM comes w/ Journaling on.
To the OP, I'd try reflashing the ROM one last time, or if all else fails, Odin back to stock EG22, and then flash a rom. Sometimes a clean start fixes everything.
Hope everything works out.

I mostly was talking about his other ROM experiences and figured bad data got carried over. Your advice is good to clear all that up.

Personally, the best ROM I've used is the SRF 1.2 ROM by ACS. I have it overclocked at 1.12GHz and it runs like a charm. Battery life is about the best I've gotten it.

I agree with T980; SRF 1.2 is probably the most stable ROM with the best battery life. If you don't want EC05 and insist upon EG22, I would first Odin using Chris41g's kernel/root, or flash the stock EG22 update by Decad3nce. After that loads, then flash your EG22 ROM. Personally, I had the best experience with SuperHijacked ROM after the Decad3nce flash.

Non-Asop roms always freeze.

I reflash to odin, root with the new one click, wipe data, cache and dalvik, flash SRF, after a few hours it will freeze with a black screen and I have to pop the battery to re-boot. I've tried wiping 3 times, turning journaling on, etc. Every non-asop rom eventually freezes on me, however, miui and cm7 never have that problem? Looking for suggestions and and aswser as to why the aosp roms never have the same issue. Any other rom freezes with in 24 hours, cm7 and miui have never froze on me.

And are you overclocked?
I wish i knew cause as soong as my phone goes into standby, it wont come back on. i even changed the voltage settings like recomended..its a over clocked kernal but i dont overclock the settings at all
I'm not overclocked, just flashed the genocide kernel to see if that makes any difference. So what steps should I take? What I did was
Odin to stock eb13
Ota update to ec05
New clockwork mod
Wiped data, cache, and dalvik
Flashed SRF

Most new roms backup data and they dont like it when u wipe data before the flash...and cm7 and miui dont do this so maybe thats why your getting freezes.
Simply AOSP dosen't, and I've had the same problem on there. Someone on craigslist needs to just trade an evo for my epic so I can get full cm7 goodness, ha ha

I'm very impatient, ha ha. Right now I'm odining the EC05 stock plus tha's pre-rooted, then Im gonna let it sit for 5, boot recovery, and flash SRF with out wiping, well see how that works. I had my hopes up because it seemed that the new CWM might have fixed my issues, but alas, no.
It sucks, my choices are
Stock, and super slow with everything working
CM7 or MIUI, super fast with out mms, gps or cam (on cm7)
or Everyother rom, fast, but have to pull my battery 5 times a day

I'm talking about true stock. I use your odin tar as a starting point seeing as how its pre-rooted. Honestly have never given it a try as a daily driver, if SRF freezes after flashing and not wiping, I may have to give it a try.

Don't worry. This whole thread makes no sense unless the OP means that CM7 is the only ROM that does not freeze.
The Epic has no other AOSP ROM that I am aware of. I guess even the stock ROMs freeze for the OP.

I'm wondering if you are using any cpu control apps? Setcpu? Pimp my cpu? Voltage control?
And/or any ram mamaging apps like auto memory manager?
I would suggest after you get on srf 1.1.1, get setcpu, do a quick auto detect on there, and change settings to conservative 200 min 1000 max, see if that helps, make sure you do NOT have both voltage control and setcpu installed.
Auto memory manager will also interfere with the ram tweaks in srf that's why I included that

@prodigy
CM7 and MIUI are both aosp, neither of those freeze, neither does a stock odin flash, any custom rom freezes.
@dr
I'm not using voltage control or setcpu, but I am using an auto task killer. Could that be the issue? And why is it only on non-aosp roms that I have this problem. Never had a bad flash with miui or cm7, and evey custom rom always freezes after trying everything.

[Q] Someone Help Please?

Hey guys, I seem to be having a problem on my phone recently.. Every time I start it up, or try to load an app or something, I get a message saying the process ends. This happens with Google Apps, Gingerbread Keyboard, Etc. I've tried wipe x3 then reflash, but it doesn't do anything.
I'm running
Genocide Kernel, Firmware 2.2.1, And Simply AOSP v3.1.2
I believe it's still on SFR 1.2 , but it's not saying that in the build number so I'm not sure..
someone please help.
If you have a good nand backup you can do a factory data reset and then restore advanced data. That will clear up any of the FCs. Or clear data in each of the apps giving you problems in settings>applications>manage applications>all and scroll to google services framework and click it and clear data. Do the same for the Gingerbread keyboard and any other app FCing.

I will try this, but the other problem is, it just started having problems with the android processor. Like, I did a restore, and all the sudden, I'm getting all the errors I was getting originally, and like the core & android processor thing is failing.

Sounds like you did not have journaling enabled. The Factory Data reset and a reflash of your ROM should fix it. Find out how to enable journaling for your ROM and do it.

When you install a new ROM like AOSP all of that is gone. If you want to do SFR and Genocide instead of AOSP then go ahead. We should get you up and running first though and then you know the steps to take when it screws up again.

I would suggest either pming or posting on the AOSP thread what setup you're on and how best to convert to their Rom. Sometimes they've heard of conflicts or tricks that they can walk you through. I love SRF, but if you want to explore, you should know what works best to transition. You'll get it going, just keep toying. Worst you have to do is Odin and that's not terrible for the phone now and again.

[ ROM ] Stock Rooted EL26 System [ NO CIQ / OS 2.3.6 ]

This ROM is completely stock with exception of root/busybox added and it uses the repacked EL26 that Chris41G posted so that you keep CWM.
All must be flashed through CWM
Stock Rooted EL26 ROM (v1.0)
Stock Rooted De-odex'd EL26 ROM (v1.0)
EL26 Modem
EL26 Stock Kernel - No CWM
On top of it as always. Thanks Calkulin!

Nandroid just in case as you should anyways. Load up TB just in case as you should anyways and flash. I thought I heard it does not wipe data but these precautions should be taken anyways.
If you wipe all and do it right the first time then it can save later problems if any..
IMHO

So far the Phone Icon is different. You now have infinite scrolling on the launcher windows like in app section (doesn't stop at the edges just keeps scrolling windows). Modem and all are EL26. Maybe imagining things but feels snappier than EL13. IMO the wakeup and unlock is more fluid now. It doesn't wipe your data. Receiving phone call window is new but looks "unfinished" to me.

Blazer rom 4.0 vs Calkulins 2.9.2

Just wondering which y'all prefer, I've been running Calkulins for near a month and wondered if I should stay or try blazer.. I'm all about performance and battery life.. Thanks go yalls input
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I would go with Blazer. Phantom is CONSTANTLY updating his so that it improves in battery and performance. There's no undervolting script included, but you can adjust that anyways with SetCPU and you probably don't need it because Blazer battery life is amazing.
I'm a Blazer fan myself, so naturally I would recommend trying it out. What you could do is nandroid backup your Calkulin set up, and try Blazer. If you don't like it you can always restore your Calkulin set up.

Follow the OP instructions exactly and you should be good to go. Most people who where stuck at the boot logo didn't wipe fully. You can just flash calks format all to make things simpler, then flash the rom right after.
after you flash blazer 4.0 and can boot, you can restore your data using cwm if you want. Just go to back up and restore in cwm, then advance restore-> data of your latest nandroid backup.
I expected this thread to be about 50/50! What have I been missing out on? Lol

But yeah my all time favorite is Blend (on GB or ICS).

If you do restore-data, does it put all the settings and programs back on the phone like it was with the other rom? One reason i'm hesitant to install another rom is all the work it takes to get it back to the way this one was.
The first rom I flashed was blazer and I loved it! but it seemed like after each update I disliked it more and more, although I'm sure his new one is awesome. My personal preference is Calk's because it was completely stable for me and gave me the best battery life, even overclocked.
Well I tried to full wipe with Calkulins zip and for extra measure wiped myself and I'm back on the Samsung boot screen.. What's going on with blazer not wanting to install.. I'm on el29..

Try flashing the stock el29 rom which will set the kernel and modem back to el29. Happened to me before and this has worked.

I am currently on Blazer 4.0 and it is super smooth and stable. I was using Calkulins OG ICS build and i had alot of crashes and very problematic. Though Calkulin post all leaks and new builds very quickly and is getting the dev opertunities where they are now i believe blazer is far perfecting them.

Did you do an MD5 check to make sure you got a good clean download? I had the same problems before and I found it was due to a bad download (it happens, not the dev's fault).

Random reboots on ics

IM sure that someone has already talked about this but I can't find it any where.
Has anyone figured out why on the last couple leaks there have been issues of random reboot?
Does anyone know how to make them stop happening?

I have never had the random reboot issue. I'm guessing thats probably a bad install issue. It seems to be a hit and miss issue as some have the issue and others never do.

It seems like more often than not the random reboots a lot of people are seeing are from one of two things: a bad install or because they are using a CWM repacked kernel.
I'd suggest switching to a stock kernel first. If that doesn't work do a total wipe, redownload the ROM and then flash the new copy.
Good luck!
I've never had them until this past week on fc22, and now on Calk's 1.3a. I always verify checksums, so I don't think mine is due to a bad download. I suspect it's CWM related. I'm switching to stock kernel. But I also restored my data partition after the last few flashes, so that could be it too.

I use stock no cwm kernel and have not had a single reboot. It could be a bad install even if its a good download. I would try flashing again.

I was having them earlier on Caulks ics ROM but not on 1.3a. I was at the point of using Odin to go back to stock, and would have done so had latest version not corrected this.

He added or edited the battery script in his rom to help with this issue.

It all depends which ics you're running
So I spoke too soon. Last night had at least a half dozen reboots on caulks ROM and used Odin to return to GB and Caulks 2.8 version without any further problems. Never figured out the cause but will wait until official release is out and Caulk has his way with it.

If you were having them when the battery level was low even around 30% than it's a sign you should of just flashed the new battery saver script. Calk had updated it I think it was after he put up v1.3a cause ya it was causing it to reboot at certain power lvls.
I have random reboots like crazy on FF02 and now on FF09 stock rooted.
On cm9 alpha 4 I would have a random reboot every couple days nothing major. I would never have anything like that on the Gingerbread roms I just flashed cm9 alpha 5 yesterday and have had no problems yet but its only been one day so time will tell. Before cm9 I was running the hydra rom which was awesome and I did not have on reboot but everything was so small it got annoying so I switched to cm9.
happens to me with 4g. It causes reboots on some ICS leaked roms
I have the exact same problem all my ICS rom are good and stable for a day or two before they just start rebooting and if i stay persistent they become hot reboots and drain my battery. I tried going back to GB stock kernels/roms and my phone still reboots any suggestions?

I had the same problem. I started all the way back to the el26 one click, installed cwm, and flashed ics
