i installed cm7 on my sis's mt3gs, and the battery drain is just horrible, the phone dies in 7 hours from a full charge, with about 20 minutes of screen time, and a few texts. thats almost no usage. battery usage says display is using the most battery, auto brightness is enabled. i setup setcpu, I UNDERCLOCKED her, did everything i thought of, and still horrible battery life. My motorolla defy runs at a faster clock speed, and can last almost 3 days with that type of usage. How do i fix this?
just curious, is she with T-Mobile? cuz some tmo phones mysteriously got bad battery life for no reason and then the problem will disappear...
yes tmobile. the thing is, this is kinda urgent since shes leaving to college in 2 days.......
Got the same problem, the battery died after a few hours even in airplane mode
You need to recalibrate the battery, you can do it in 2 ways
Fully charge 100% the phone then:
Use the battery recalibration app from the market
Or
Go to recovery and select wipe battery stats
Your phone will magically last more

she wont let me though -.- damn hormone raging teen girls
With the battery recalibration app is so easy that she can do that be herself.
Just tell her to charge the phone overnight, and the morning run the app (giving root access) and press the button
No hassles, no trouble
Otherwise, if she does not want to do that, she should not complain about the battery life
Ps: i think that the phone must be s-off to do that when system is loaded, did you do that?
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
Doesn't have to be S - Off, just rooted which it has to be with CM7 on it.
I understood that s-off was needed for editing files in /system, am i wrong?
The location of the battery stats file should be protected from writes if the phone is s-on, i think

idk about that, i mean from expierience with a moto phone and a lg phone, they were just rooted, no s-off and i was able to calibrate
I don't have s - off on my slide and I calibrate it every so often with no problems.
just a question, i got her to calibrate, and while it was discharging to 0, the phone rebooted. does this mess up the calibration process?
I have no idea
You know what?
Today i was in a rural area with poor reception and the phone died in less than 5 hours with no use at all
Can be that?
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
a few words for you:
1) yes, battery recalibration can help, a little
2) Tmobile was been upgrading their network and as of late, customers have been complaining of poor battery battery life. Those affected are 4g phones. Our phone is 4g compatible, so that could attribute to the problem
3) Poor network coverage can drain the battery as well. Turn of mobile data when not using it in order to combat this issue.
4) cm is almost always better with battery life (except a for a bad build here and there), so the issue is not CM7 (unless your using the nightlies, I dont know how well those are running)
I'm running the latest nightly and have pretty good battery life so far.

Well everynight before I go to sleep I charge my phone fully and unplug it before I sleep
Usually I would only lose about 1 % or 2% overnight
But this week I would lose over 60% over night! Its outragous!
I looked at what was killing my battery and "Cell Standby" and "Phone idle" were both over 45 - 49% !!
Anyway I can fix this problem??
Thank You

There may be some random issue with your nearby cell tower, causing the signal to be weaker than normal (particularly 3G). This might cause your phone to be constantly looking for the tower, and killing the battery. I've noticed this to happen at my house, although the difference in battery usage is not as severe as what you describe.
If you haven't changed anything on your phone, I would just leave it be for a few days and see if improve on their own.

As redpoint73 said .its probably because of weak 3g signals ,set your phone to "2g only"
overnight and see if it make any different. i dont think different radio will help ,different kernel might do .

Turn off data completely and see if it still drains. If that stops the drain, change your radio.
Remember you must be radio s-off to do that. Root with gfree (you'll need the cm 6.1.0 kernel or stock).

There's no good answer to that. What radio is the "best" varies by geographic location. The best way to find out is by trial and error, although the newest radio tends to be the best place to start. Some people seem to be having some decent luck with the latest AUS radio. But like I said, its all just trial and error. I remember on my last phone (Touch Pro 2) people sometimes reported better battery life and reception by flashing older radios.
EDIT: I just noticed this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990860
Some people claim EXCESSIVE battery drain using the newest AUS radio, while others do not. So it still goes back to my statement that trial and error is your best bet.

I don't use the profiles on setcpu, they're confusing and annoying. I don't even keep it overclocked much, only when I use my phone alot. When my phone is idle I set it back down to 806, sometimes even 700.
Wifi is on all the time when I am at home
GPS = on for me (at home)
screen brightness is like 40%
I keep 4g on all the time as well
At night, I keep my phone unplugged at 100% than the next day its at 99%
Ill use it for maybe 20 minutes and its at 90%. After about an hour and a half it goes to like 75% than ill put it back on standby for maybe an hour than its at like 73%
To sum it up, if its in standby, its fine
If im using it from 100% to 0% it lasts a good 3-5 hours depending on if im streaming vids, listening to music, and browsing the internet.
Im testing the waters with different settings and roms as of now..
GingerVillain is my favorite so far.

Stay on one ROM for a couple of weeks, you'll find that battery life improves significantly after the first couple couple of weeks.

It takes a few weeks because the stuff that measures the battery takes a while to fully calibrate itself with the battery. If you want proof you can look at some of the earlier posts in xda (around February ish). They can get thru a whole day with 50% left. As can I.

Lg nitro hd standby time
I was forced to to update my rooted nitro when I got the boot loop problem. I was using android 2.3.5 and when I update it installed android 4.0.4
Thank god I was able to recover my phone since I was unable to put it in safe mode or complete a factory reset.
The tool LG tool I used installed 4.0.4 without (CIQ) carrier IQ which the at&t 2.3.5 had.
The only time I got good standby time with 2.3.5 was with other battery apps, I managed to get 64.5 hrs standby.
Now since updating on my first day testing the new 4.0.4 I got 45.5 standby with 15% left.
Second test I have got 85 hrs and 36 min with 95% deep sleep with 23% battery left.
I have heard people complain that ics battery time is worse than before, but I think its much better.
I don't even think a battery app can give me better standby time than what I got now.
I turn everything off except for airplane mode/volume.
Is there an app or way that conserves the battery power. The phone is still completely stock but it received a firmware update through Tmobile and ever since then the battery gets drained by 4 pm (after all apps are x-ed out and phone is just in standby) the batter drops to around 30 percent... what can I do? I dont know how much you use your phone and weather or not you watch movies or download files with Wi-Fi alot but it could seriously drain your battery if you leave things like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, Brightness Up, or use live wallpapers.
If not, I would recommend checking your battery against someone elses because I've had a phone before that had a bad battery that could explode and caused me to have battery issues. Make sure your battery isnt swollen at all and if it is make sure you take it out and dont put it back in and go to a Battery+ store nearby and I'm sure they got one for your phone (they come with warranty).
Well my wife and I have the same phone and it does it to both. I don't have signal in my job since they have a Verizon antenna and it blocks our t mobile signal so I don't use it during the day which means the phone is just on stand by for the first eight hours. I make sure I turn off wifi, blue tooth, GPS etc and close all apps....but by the time I get out of work it's at 30-40% power.... both phones were bought this April so was hoping it wasn't/isn't a hardware issue and have to replace the batteries....

This is where the world of rooting and tweaking your android becomes extremely attractive.
There are ROMs that last 1 day + ( that's 24h+ hours of battery)
Only need two things....
1. Patience - to sit, read and closely follow instructions
2. Guts - to take a dive and risk ruining your phone. (Which doesn't happen if you have number 1)

1. juice defender is a start.
The rest all needs rooting really.
2. Build.prop tweaks
3. UV with a custom kernel
4. Lowest screen brightness (doesn't require root)
5. Restrict yourself to 2G networks either using AOKP settings or a build.prop tweak
There are others but this is how I achieve great battery times mostly.

Why not try and find out what is using your battery up first? Try GSAM from the play store, its free for one, easy to use, it will show you what is draining your battery, there are a few paid ones as well, but try the free first , HERE is the direct link to GSAM.
or QR code, just scan it with phone.

That is a very weird situation and try a app that shows the apps using battery. Even check the stock android battery section in settings and see whats getting used. Your brightness should be first since it can really eat your battery if its turned up. I dont think its defective since both your phones are having the same problem but both my parents have the 4.0.4 firmware installed on their T989's without a problem and get decent battery power. I however am using a custom rom with kernel. Did you use the same battery for each phone? or each phone has the same problem with their own devices and their own batteries when getting updated to 4.0.4? If you used your battery on her's I'm assuming the problem may be the battery and you just got unlucky with a defective one.
P.S. I'm assuming 4.0.4 because thats the latest update to ICS for the T989 on T-Mobile.
The battery manager that comes with the phone identifies the display, but I've set it to lowest setting and have a dark background. And yeah both phones have their respective batteries which makes me think it's a software issue.. We just upgraded to the 2.3.6 ( I guess t-mobile is a but behind lol). But I going to try the juice defender tomorrow... It's just while I root the phone and get a custom ROM... (doing my homework before doing anything since it'll be first time)

Those apps wont really help, it basically does what you can do manually, turning off settings or putting them at low usage. Rooting is the way to go, its rather simple, once you do it, you will have wished you done it sooner. Trust me, I was in the same boat, I had just got my phone last december, the wife and I were in Vegas and my battery was horrible, I was taking lots of pictures and video, but my battery was dying. I had no way to charge it til we got back to the hotel, next day was same thing, horrible battery, this was all before ICS even was around for this device. When I got back home, I rooted my phone, to date, I have gotten a best 44 hours out of the phone. I ROM hop so I try out the variety, there is how to's and videos here and youtube, you will kick youself on how easy it truly is to root and flash. GSAM will show you in more detail what is using your battery the most, good luck with whatever you choose to do. There are many people here who can help you along the way, thats what this site is for.
Juice Defender will help a ton with you're screen being off for extended periods of time. Normally without it, I lose 30% at work without touching it. Today, I have lost 6%. The margin won't always be like that but it's a sizeable difference. Also, I have an app monitor application you can use to track rogue apps. There is also this app called Autostarts where you can disable an app from opening and it's really useful for apps that you don't need running in the background. Turning off auto sync will help as well IF you are okay with not getting every email in 5 minutes.

I have been stressing myself out about this for over a week, trying different things, buying new batteries trying new chargers, changing roms.
Turning so many things off basically making my phone into a dumbphone to try to figure out why my battery life is so bad. Could it be I just have a bad phone and need a new one??
I had a Galaxy S3 gave it to my GF, never turned any sync services off and I am able to get 20+ hours with that phone, this phone is HORRIBLE.
I was stock getting about 5 hours before dead battery (phone would get real warm- battery stats showing 33C+).
So I rooted and took it back to an LJC rom (4.1.1). Tried different modems, kernals, files tweaks with root explorer.
I bought BBS, a battery calibrator from the market and still cant see any problems that would do this?
last picture......
Should I just take it into Sprint and get a replacement???

Also try uninstalling and reinstalling facebook. My girlfriend's phone (GS3, not a note) went from 8 hours to probably 14 hours just by using the mobile web version of facebook instead of the the app. Facebook is atrocious at making apps.
But it really does sound like you got a lemon here, I'd get a replacement from Sprint. I don't think I could kill my battery in under 10 hours unless I was playing a game non-stop. My phone is completely stock.
I will uninstall Facebook, and test it out. Thanks!

OP. Your problem is not your ROM or anything else. Jeeze people.
Those partial wakelocks are PURELY from Google Now and the wifi/network based location. Either turn off Google Now, or turn off network-based-locating and those partial wakelocks will disappear....I'd also wager you have Sprint Connection Optimizer still running causing your phone to hangup trying to find a network conenction.
My battery took a good hite when I updated to 4.1.2 used to get 20+ hrs with 7+ screen time now I get about 14-15 with 4-5 hrs screen time

Based on your first pictures, your status bar, and the amount of awake time your phone is showing I'm guessing a couple of things. Do you have a phone signal where you spend most of your day? If my awake bar was solid like yours I wouldn't have a battery after 7 hours either. I would backup everything and do a full wipe / clean install and run the phone a day or so.

What of the borderline useless bells and whistles do you have enabled? I.e. face recognition/unlock, auto-brightness, SPen battery saver etc? Things like battery savers unsurprisingly don't help so i'd nix it as it is only wasting battery.

Meh. On this device I always aim for getting 10%/ battery usage per hour of screen-on-time on TouchWiz ROMs, and a fraction of a percent per hour in screen-off....something is burning battery here, and it is probably a system setting.

I am going to try that now, going to do a wipe of everything and not install anything except the battery tools.

No face recognition/unlock, auto brightness is enabled, but with that little screen time does it really matter? No SPen battery savor. Thanks for the suggestions.

The thing is, I have a Galaxy S3... The Note II is setup no different then that, settings or otherwise. I am trying all of these suggestions, but why did I not have to turn any of these off on my S3?? Same service area obviously. I took the Galaxy S3 off the charger last night at 100%. Put a new battery in the Note II so it was at 100%. Let them both sit on the counter for 1 hour. S3 had 98%, Note II was at 87%... No calls no texting, no screen time. It is so fustrating! I have had my fair share of battery tweaking with previous phones (HTC EVO, HTC hero). It seems something isn't right. I had problems with stock rom, that is why I rooted so quick, to try a different ROM.
If the wipe does not work I will try to get Sprint to get me a replacement, was hoping the get this figured out before I fly to Florida for a week. Good thing I have extra batteries.

I would get a replacement. You should not have to turn off all thr features to get decent battery that defeats the purpose of having a smartphone.

Any other g2 users having major battery issues? Sprint g2, some apps and bloatware frozen/removed. Rooted as well. Battery dropped 38 percent in 4 hours with little to no use. Location services are off. Shows that android operating system using around 40 percent. Any idea of what is causing this? So far, not loving the update and the issues its having.
Absolutely not... Quite the opposite. I'm on a custom ROM but I used ZV7 ZV8 & ZVA before with no issues. That's one great thing about the G2 is the Snap Dragon processors are great on the battery, a charge lasts a long time and the battery never gets hot even with constant tethering and heavy usage. You should try the Snap Dragon battery guru app in the play store at: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xiam.snapdragon.app which is great for saving juice. Or takes a couple days to get full effect cause it learns your patterns and stops apps from refreshing during times when you don't use them, cuts of WiFi and or data during times when you aren't using it. Also I'd check your battery usage stats and see what processes are draining it the most. Is most likely an app or 2 draining a lot of your battery, so the battery guru will stop that from happening during times that you don't use those apps.

Its very common after a firmware update for a battery to go outta whack. It may be that you need to recalibrate it. After any firmware update its adviseable to so a factory reset at 100% battery level. Then use your phone normally till the battery dies and phone shuts down. Plug in the phone and let it charge to 100% while off. Turn it on, and use it till the batt dies again. Repeat charging to 100% with phone off.
That may solve your issue. Fully cycle the battery 2x.

Thank you @bigpoppa and @sudosurootdev I will try both suggestions. I've got snapdragon app downloaded now. Haven't did a full cycle charge on it yet though. Normally had great battery life, even on aosp roms. Could be that I am just impatient too though haha.
Battery life is greatly affected by weak signals. It drives up the power to get you signal

My signal has actually been a great deal weaker since the update. I live in an.area where there is only 3g/1x data. Used to get around 1.8 mbps download...now only getting around 600kbps. Pretty much just sucks.

I'm having the same issue. It's wakelock WifiOffDelayIfNotUsed. I've tried everything I can think of, but it's completely keeping my phone from deep sleep.
I did one full cycle charge. Took it off the charger at around 10am yesterday. Almost 21 hours later, sitting at 35%. Doing a little better than before. Bluetooth keeps showing on my list of wake locks but it's disabled.

I got the ZVC OTA, then I flashed the zvc .tot after accidently deleting supporting services for voice mail (Skyfire Observer and Sprint Extension provider) after flashing Im at 7hrs 30mins Screen Time surfing web with 15% battery left on first day, before that I got little over 6hrs with 0% battery and all the same apps. Do a factory reset after OTA that might help or flash the ZVC.tot for a complete fresh install like I did.
Just an FYI Swype connect is a known battery killer for some its mentioned on their forums and it sometimes runs even when all connect features are blocked.
Another thing block location services when not needed it will save a nice amount of battery life.

I think its a problem with 4.4.2, google is fixing that in 4.4.3. Also make sure Sprint Connections Optimizer is really off.
The only issue I've seen is Bluetooth showing up under battery stats as being used at around 50-55% yesterday with a runtime of over a day. I'm thinking its just a reporting bug since I haven't used Bluetooth at all and I don't see a noticeable drop in battery but if it is using it I'd definitely like to curb it.
anyone with a similar issue or possible idea on fixing it? Running stock zvc unrooted

That's weird, never had that happen to me. Did you Factory reset after OTA? Sometimes that helps.

I get 7.5 hrs and 15% battery left at 50% Brightness, location and autosync drain battery a lot as I mentioned before. Also use task manager to autoblock Sprint apps and uncheck Sprint Connections Optimizer it eats battery, Lastly Swype connect runs even when online features are disabled and eats battery, there are many complaints about that on Swype forum as well.
Im mostly on WiFI and have full signal due to Airave (no LTE) so I guess that helps too. All those things add up, I'm sure you can achieve that screen time as well.
By factory reset, do you guys mean in settings? I need to reset, but I don't have a computer at the moment so I can't reflash tot.
