[Q] is S-OFF safe on 2.3.3 A2SD+? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My current ROM on my GSM Desire is 2.3.3 with Sense 2.1 and 3.0 features, also with A2SD+ (this ROM is not in this forum).
My question is if it's safe to S-OFF with this ROM, or should I flash a more 'standard' ROM (like 2.2 and with no A2SD)?
I ask because I didn't see anything about it on http://alpharev.nl/ except that doing the S-OFF on D2EXT isn't recommended.
Thanks!

When you run the s-off procedure on a gingerbread rom, there might occur problems. So I recommend to do nandroid backup, flash froyo (e.g. defrost), run s-off, restore nandroid backup. But there shouldn't be any problems with gingerbread/a2sd+/s-off.

Okay, thank you very much!

either a Stock Rooted FROYO
or Oxygen
no roms with a2sd+ or data2sd/ext

[Q] how to improve HTC DHD step by step

Hello!
I now have a DHD with original sense ROM, i want to root it and flash a faster kernel without changing original ROM. What should i do, and what kernel are you suggesting?
You need visionary app to root it. Then get either radio s-off or hboot s-off. There are excellent guides in the development section. I'd post links but I'm mobile right now and its a pita.
Best kernel for sense roms is the buzz kernel, I prefer version 1.06 as the later releases are based on the Cyanogenmod kernel source which isn't as good with the sense roms.

Can you please post links of rootguide and flashing kernel?
do i have to install recovery flasher to flash a kernel?
is it better that i use kernel update utility?
Ok back at my laptop so:
If you want radio s-off go here.
If you want hboot s-off go here.
Radio s-off will allow you to install a custom recovery and flash a custom kernel.
Hboot s-off will allow you to use the kernel update utility or flash from fastboot a new kernel.
@dr.m0x, I am on stock ROM (1.32.405.6) right now and stock kernel (2.6.32.21) and
- I have perm root
- I have done S-Off (with One click Radio tool)
- I am on stock ROM 1.32.405.6 (I have not installed any custom roms)
- I have backed up my stock ROm via Clockwork Recovery (just in case)
If I flash a custom kernel (with jkoljo's Kernel Update Utility or with anything else) and want to back to my original Kernel can I use my back up ROM and install it via Clockwork Recovery?
Or Is there another easy way

Easiest way to back on stock rooted ROM?

Hi all!
Yesterday I was rooted my Desire and put GingerVillain 2.2, and app2sd.
GingerVillain is ok, but camera is so so bad!! That is what get me very angry. Someone told me for putting the last version of Radio, but I don't want touch that.
So, I'm looking at this thread and I don't know what I should do to get back stock rooted Froyo on my Desire?

Hi!
Try Leedroid 2.x, that one could be for you...

Thank you for reply!
Hmm, do you try Leedroid?
Is the camera and camcorder like on stock Froyo?
It's look great, even maybe better of GingerVillain...
EDIT: I will put pre rooted stock froyo, I've hear Leedroid is not so good.
I just need answer on this questions:
1. Wich link I must download (for pre rooted stock ROM)
2. nandroid backup, format sd card, is that necessary?
3. now on gingervillain I have app2sd, how "move" on pre rooted ROM?
To Unroot/Revert to original state:
Original unrooted HTC RUU roms. Pick the one that matches your area and carrier.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
Instructions to unroot:
http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-unroot-the-htc-desire/
If you want STOCK HTC Sense with ROOT:
This is a "100% Stock ROOTED HTC Sense Froyo Rom". It's the same as stock HTC Sense, but with ROOT access. No other mods, unless you opt to flash the voluntary mods.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
NB: Remember, GingerVillean is NOT a HTC Sense rom. It's stock Android Gingerbread (like on the Nexus S) with NO HTC Sense features. Hence the differences.

[Q] Q. Confused... need someone to give clear answer...

Hi,
Just getting back into phone mods (used to own windows Touch HD) and recently did the HTC upgrade to gingerbread (which worked fine).
My problem is running out of space all the time... so I followed the instructions to use unrevoked tool (http://revolutionary.io/) to s-off the phone and install clockwork mod recovery.
But what now?
I would initially just want to have the official rom but be able to use the SD card for more space...
I am confused with talk of cm7r2 hboot, which rom to use, will the rom work with what I have and is my phone even rooted??
I don't suppose there is anyone out there that can spell out clearly my next steps??
Thanks in advance
First of all congrats that you have successfully managed to root and S-Off your phone..
Hboot is something that decides who your phone's internal memory is partitioned..for now you have stock hboot..which has partition like the following system 250MB cache 40MB data 147MB
Cm7r2 has system 145MB cache5MB 287MB
this is because requirement of Stock hboot based roms and Cm7r2 Roms are different..
My advice is for now you can used A2sd+ roms which can be installed on stock hboot with the help of recovery.
You will find roms over here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
If you want basic Gingerbread rom try from Sense 1.9/2.1 (GingerBread): section
Also to use a2sd+ u need to partition your memory card..
you can find all details in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
Hope it helps
Have I actually rooted the phone... I don't think I have???
Oif you read the revolutionary documentation, there is a zip to flash for root
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I think this is what I need... ROM] [20/08] Pre-rooted Stock Gingerbread (3.14.405.1) [Optional Mods]
I didn't use the zip to flash for root as was worried if there were different options...
It is SOOO confusing... need to keep reading!

[Q] Need HTC Desire official 2.3 but Data++

I am looking for the official ROM 2.3.3 rooted & S-OFF but with the DATA++ hboot, anyone can help, or guide into how to make the stock boot rom to be data++
Well you would be looking at shifting 70MB of the ROM to somewhere other than the /system partition, you would need to move it to SD-EXT. Why do you need data++ to work with it?
Best bet is to download one of the sense 2.0/2.1 ROMS that fit into the CM7 Hboots and look at their scripts in system/etc/init.d for clues as to how they do it...

[Q] Insertcoin S-OFF needed and other questions

Im running an unbranded, unlocked desire with Froyo currently. Its rooted using unrevoked.
I want to flash to Insertcoin latest but got some confusion from reading the docs.
Do i need to run "revolutionary" to turn my current S-ON desire into S-OFF or will it install just fine without changing?
If so, will it work with the existing revoked/cm/root mod or not or do i have to remove that first?
Once im on the ROM how easy is it to go back to stock 2.2 ? Can i just take a nandroid backup from CM recovery and then restore that or will that not work?
Help with the above is appreciated, especially if i need to be S-OFF or not to install!
All your questions can be answered by using the search.
S-OFF is not required to flash other ROM (as long as ROM has a Stock hboot version). Suggest reading this excellent FAQ (courtesy RootSU):
