[Q] newbie on wildfire - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys, i have the new wildfire, i tried rooting it following all instruction on unrevoked3 and the Hboot. installed all drivers needed but unrevoked cannot detect my wildfire
PLS HELP!

If you have a new Wildfire, in all probability, Unrevoked will not work. Use Revolutionary to gain S-OFF and push a Custom Recovery.
It can be accessed here:
http://revolutionary.io/
Don't forget to read the documentation:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary

Does my Desire need to be rooted/pre-rooted to install ?
You have to root your desire.
I did it through linux, and no problems at all.

Thanks if you help
Did you use AlphaRevX?
yhh, too get s-off.
Unrevoked won't work in that case.
Try my guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130044
Why do u need unrevoked whereas u're already rooted ?
S-off=/= rooted

some questions before rooting

Hello all,
First of all thanks for the wonderful forum!
Before rooting my phone (Branded HTC Desire (ORANG202), HBOOT 0.80, 1.21.405.1) I have a couple of questions.
I read carefully the thread "Noob Proof Everything Desire Guide" but there are still some things I want to make clear.
1. Do I have to use a goldcard through the rooting and S-OFFing processes? Since as I understand from Unrevoked is the program used to flash superuser, busybox, and clockwork recovery into your phone, during the rooting process no new rom will be flashed.
Similarly, do I always have to use a goldcard to flash RUU, even after rooting ?
2. Does S-OFFing will update my HBOOT ver. up to 0.93? Will it update radio either?
Thanks alot for your attention!
A goldcard is used when there is no RUU available for your phone, and in your case, there aren't any orange RUU's, so yes you need one.
A golcard makes the phone ignore its CID, and allows any RUU to be used.
Due to your hboot being 0.80, you will need to use the alpharev live CD instead of revolutionary, and once you flash the new Alpharev hboots, yes, it will update it to 6.93.0001
It will not touch your radio, radios can be flashed manually with .img files through fastboot (recommended) or in a .zip file through recovery.

Problems with debranding

Hello,
My friend has a htc wildfire phone and he asked me to root and install cyanogenmod for him. I was planning on installing this particular rom on his phone : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1143125
Before installing this rom, I followed these guides to debrand, root and install cwm recovery on the phone:
1.[REF/GUIDE] [29/07] The Complete Wildfire Index
2.[FULL GUIDE] Rooting HTC Wildfire (BUZZ) 2.2.1 with HBOOT 1.01.0002 !! (5/8/2011)
3.[Full Guide] All in one - De-branding, rooting and flashing for all HBOOT versions
I am having problems with unlocking the BL. I cant seem to get the HBOOT down to 1.01.0001. Tried the htcdev method and was able to unlock my BL but my HBOOT ver. is now 1.20.xxxx and i am not able to root the phone. I had tried all of 3 guides above to debrand the phone but no success.
In the buzzdowngrade part of the instructions, i successfully complete the step1.bat and the gold card part. Step2.bat also completes but when i go back into HBOOT i saw no change, hence i went the htcdev way and now my HBOOT is 1.20.xxx Any advices how to root now??
