Hi all chefs
Is it possible to cook a Samsung Galaxy S ROM for the HTC Desire? The applications are available in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7201890#post7201890 And the Samsung Glaxy S Android development forum has some custom ROMs, so I guess the source or something is available for our beloved chefs
If not a total ROM port are feasible because of the big differences in hardware, at least a Desire ROM with most of the apps and widget cooked in would be great!
Anyone up for the challenge?
We already have the Galaxy launcher and apps...i don't think there is much need for a rom. Other than samsung widgets i suppose?

Actually I posted the apps in the themes and apps section, but non of the apps seems to work on the Desire, or has there been any progress regarding that issue? Especially some of the widgets and apps are interesting.
I got rid of my Galaxy S for the Desire because TouchWiz is terrible. Why would you want to replace Sense with that?
Touchwiz is crap.

Well, actually only the following apps are of special interest:
FM RDS Radio
WriteandGo
I tried to install them, but it didn't work.
I would like those apps and the music app because it looks awesome

Hah Samsung makes good screens!
They should stick to what they do best, making visuals! They are one of the best for displays I think we'd all agree, leave the high-end business mobile phone department to people that have been in the business for years.. like HTC. Sense really makes these devices stand out on the home screens alone.
I agree but it would be nice to have a play with some of their application they have designed.

Launcher Pro is way better than Sense anyway IMO.
These days, there's simply too many HTC software dependencies to really make it work right on your device.
I love sense (again) but LPP simply handles it so much better, at least launcher wise. Much more customization with the same widgets

just wondering....
do EVO Devs or members.... want Touchwiz on our EVOs?
is there a ROM?
hhhmmm.... oh.. I dont want it. just curious.
Touchwiz really is an abomination of a UI. I don't miss my epic at all.

Hi everybody- seems like samsung's not going to update the touchwiz 3 launcher on galaxy s, so i was wondering, is it possible to port the sgs2 touchwiz 4.0 launcher to original sgs devices? i really love the touchwiz launcher, and 4 seems to be ALOT better then the 3.0 version, so will we get touchwiz 4 on sgs?

Maybe..who knows? Nobody can't say yes or no until sgs2 is available..then maybe we can expect tw4..but still it probably will take some time to see a ported version.

Galaxy S I9000 Q&A
Hi fellows!
Since this is talking about TW4, there was a video showing TW4 on the Galaxy S 1 here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_17eWhaRFs
This is obviously a fake.. and I hate people lying on others and giving theme false hope, so I made a video here proving that fake:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcGXpNSrGfY
So please if you too agree, please share the video on the first one's comment, since that little silly boy blocked me from commenting as I was right.. It would be helpful. Thanks!
As for naranova7's question: We will have to wait for a first system dump from the GSII, then, a lot of people will work on it to do a port. Wait & see.
Ok, the video is obviously fake but how did he made it? Where did he got the icons and widgets?
Well, these are just wallpapers, as I say in the video, the widgets are IN the wallpaper. And the dock icons are also in the wallpapers, so they are just static images.
And it is not TW Launcher, I think it is ADW (see the AppDrawer).
If I had more time I could make one like that, I'll see if I have enough time next week.
has any of you guys tried the new official gingerbread yet? does it have touchwiz 3 or 4?
Tw 3 and no daily breifing

stupid samsung
TouchWiz 4 = Launcher only?
would there be anyway that someone could make a touchwiz 4 rom, i think that if people can make a sense 3.0 sensation port that so can a galaxy s 2 rom, If i knew anything about rom porting i would be making my own roms, But that aint going to happen any time soon . thanks A.Davies
Touchwiz? Really? Pretty sure that's not gonna happen man

I remember when I had an Evo 4G and someone asked in the forum for it if there was development of a TouchWiz 3 ROM. I about died laughing.
Same applies here. I really don't think you're going to find more than half a dozen people in all of XDA that want TouchWiz on their G2.
Not to mention the fact that I don't think it would be the easiest thing in the world to move the proprietary Samsung TouchWiz things over to an HTC phone.
I would love to port touchwiz over to galaxy nexus and I would love to get some developers on and plus this would be my first rom ever and I would need help to build this rom
People usually root to get rid of touchwiz.

I know that people root to get rid of touchwiz but I would like to port touchwiz to galaxy nexus and build it to be better then touchwiz from Samsung
I'm sorry. Looks like you're alone on that boat.
Good luck though

Not to question you, but do you actually have the skills to do this? Something like this is not an easy task for people that know what they are doing so when you say you will help, does than mean you will test or can you actually contribute?
While some do not like TW, I do not understand why people would complain if there are more options for you phone. If you do not like it, move on to something else but don't tell people not to do it.
If the new TW was ported with all the new features in the SGS3 I am sure people would jump on it. Even the TW haters.

may just start project with port galaxy s3 to nexus
This is blasphemy...that is all
LOL, why in the world would you want to have touchwiz on the nexus?
As I say that, it's better than sense 4.0. Nothing is better than stock ICS imo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061883
U can install it as a normal apk, or if u're rooted u can also push it to /system/app to enable delete apps directly from app drawer. In that same section u'll find another thread with tw launcher. This is of course TW4. Anyways, i've lived the tw experience and my final thought was "i'm never going back" , it was for sure my worst android experience.
And finally, as a response to the guy that claims that tw is a God in comparison to sense, i would propose to go jump off a cliff. They both suck and are no way close to vanilla feel, but if i had to choose between those 2 , i would go with sense, i've tried all sense versions up to sense 3.5 and neither tw3 nor tw4 are not even close.

A bit much there. Some people like like touchwiz because of some of the features it brings to the table that, quite frankly, should be in the Galaxy Nexus. The one that is bothering the HELL out of me right now is Wifi-Direct.
The S2, running Gingerbread, has a fully functioning, built-in Wifi-Direct Application. The Nexus? Does not. (Also every single video codec native to it without needing an app)
The S3, will have a better camera app, S-Beam, and a whole host of other features, that are only included with TouchWiz.
The features I've mentioned are not limited by the hardware differences between the S2 or even the S3 in comparison to the Nexus.
It's not always about looks, it's about features as well. I doubt telling someone to go jump off a cliff if they don't agree with your opinion on design is warranted.
Not a fan of touchwiz or sense
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Jump off a cliff was metaphoric of course (didn't expect i would need to explain that). Anyways, all this stuff is a matter of taste, and yes there are people who like tw, for whatever reasons. As i mentioned i spent time in both worlds, the only feature I liked in tw was the memo app. The features in sense such as widgets (weather, stocks, htc email, news feed and so on), more practical and nicer lockscreen, better transition and scrolling animations, recent apps and settings shortcuts in starus bar, and visually nicer and more colorful UI etc... plus, the whole general feel and smoothness of sense, i'm not talking about sense 4, although htc will polish the software on one x in future updates. Unless someone hadn't lived with both UI's his/her arguements are not valid.
Anyways back on topic, the "features" u mentioned in ur post above are directly integrated into the samsung framework and other system files, and u can see the progress of such ports in the gnex dev section. But that's not the point, people who NEED TW features should go and buy samsung phones with tw, gnex is clearly not the best choice for them.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
OK some of you guys need to understand that if wants to bring TW to the galaxy nexus so be it. I'm tired of reading crap about how "why would you want it" if you don't want it don't flash it when there's a touchwiz rom simple as that. Don't sit here and tell him you hate TW for what ever reason. He is asking for help to port it. If u are not going to contribute then don't say anything at all.

Why buy a gnex if you want a manufacturer overlay?
Seems kind of strange to me. I got a gnex because I wanted pure google.
The Sensation forum is also full of people complaining they don't want sense.
It's all very strange, like buying a vw golf and being disappointed that you can't put a 7 litre v10 in it.

So you're last sentence is inferring the Galaxy Nexus is a mid range Android "vehicle" and Sense is a more advanced custom engine that it can't handle?
I know that's not what you meant, but the analogy was hmm
