Do you have hboot drivers installed? If not that's your problem.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
In this moment I have formatted pc, and the firs step I have done is installing hboot driver and the problem coming , Where is the problem? help me please!! Thanks for all
usb-brick?
Hi there,
same thing happened to me since I upgraded to oxygen 2 last week. It does look like a usb-brick, however radio, bluetooth and sd (reading music, storing pic from camera) work..
Once plug to my pc, the phone charges but no notification about mounting the sd pops up. Sd is not recognize, I tryed to mount it manually (android booted and through clockwork), via a dedicated apps (like automount ...)n nothing fugging work.
Wanted to use the usb fix from modaco and also listed here, however the phone is not recognize in fastboot (no fastboot usb). I have reinstalled, adk, htc sync, java ... and nothing fugging work.
Any leads on what happening would be much appreciated.
Cheers.
Do you get mend it?

greetings
I have the same problem, phone is attempting to be repaired but I doubt they can fix it.
Had water damage at my usb connector, which i though was the cause but issue still exists after being fixed.
downgraded hboot
flashed stock ruu via PB99IMG.zip method
attempted various methods of the mtd0.img fix
still broken dam usb
Hi,
Got my phone back... but still not joy after they replaced usb connector.
Still have the same issue, but now I have no root (using visionary+ for temp root) and s-on.
Issue : PC unable to connect\detect to desire in hboot/fastboot/normal operations ie... not device detected.
Ps... i think issue occurred after doing oxygen rom as well

When you formatted your PC you htc sync drivers are also deleted. My desire had also problems with not getting recognized because I never had installed htc sync when going to windows 7 ultimate. After install en delete of htc sync (drivers stay in place) I never had any issues with recognising.
*Moved from Kindle Fire HD folder*
Hi,
I have a kindle fire 2, where I have installed CM10 (from Hashcode).
When I flashed I used a homemade factorycable, and successfully booted into fastboot and flashed TWMP and new ROM.
After this I have not been able to connect the device to a PC via USB. Whatever I do, Windows always detects it as an "Unkown Device".
Obviously I have tried reinstalling the drivers, but when I choose the correct android_winusb.inf I get an error mesage saying that driver is not compatible.
This applies to ADB and Fastboot. When looking in Device Manager > Unkown Device > Details and check property I get this:
Device Description = Unknown Device
Hardware IDs = USB\UNKNOWN
Device Instance Path = USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\6&29F11EF&0&6
Parent = USB\VID_8087&PID_0024\5&2181e07&0&1
Siblings = USB\VID_0930&PID_6545\00188B15E297EC1076C10180
Can VID/PID change when flashing a new ROM?
Shouldn't fastboot work as it used to?
My biggest fear now is that my homemade factorycable have shorted something that shouldn't be shorted, causing the USB to malfunction.
I have tried draining the battery without any luck.
I can boot into CM10, TWRP and fastboot, but I can not find the device via USB in any of these.
I am open to any suggestions at this point.

Hi,
I have a kindle fire 2, where I have installed CM10 (from Hashcode).

Thanks for your answer.
I do not want to screw Amazon for something I did myself.
Currently I have connected adb via tcp/ip.
When looking in dmesg I get some errors(?).
See complete dmesg from kindle fire 2 at: *h*tt*p*://pastebin.com/fzKdqr0X
The errors I am looking at is these, but they might just be about hardware real time clock?

I have tried connecting the device to a linux PC, but it does not show up under lsusb.
when dmesg in linux I get this when reconnecting:
PHP:
[ 5708.843772] usb 2-1.4: >new full-speed USB device number 35 using ehci_hcd
[ 5709.251221] usb 2-1.4: >device not accepting address 35, error -32
[ 5709.251464] hub 2-1:1.0: >unable to enumerate USB device on port
At this stage I am not so sure that I've screwed up the USB physically, as it detects USB in both ends. But I am pretty sure that VID and PID is corrupted somehow.
Where is VID and PID stored? I guess inside the kernel or a 3rd party (amazon) firmware. How do I upload a new kernel to the device without fastboot option, if possible? Is the kernel inside the boot.img image?
Thanks guys!
Whelp not quoting cause long ass post. Try installing the newest version of cm or freedom-boot that has fastboot under a different vid/pid fastboot is 5seconds during secondary bootloader and stays if a command is issued. It is the standard vid/pid from google, so no flag needed.

Thanks for your answer.
I've tried different cm roms without any luck.
Can I flash a new freedom-boot without fastboot?
*edit
Used [ONE-CLICK] Automated Freedom-Boot and TWRP installer Desktop mode to flash new boot.img restore.img stack.
Without any luck..

Is there a special freedom boot I need to use?

I know this sounds silly but did you enable usb debugging make sure its ticked as i made the same mistakes when i enabled it my usb mounting worked fine.

The usb port is definitely screwed up. I can attest to that, as I said, you probably need to brick it and call amazon.
Tried a few methods for getting root, none of which worked. I'm running a d851 with d85120g software. Ubuntu as my desktop. Here's a step by step pulled from various sources.
1. Put your phone in developer mode. Go to settings-->about phone. Click on build 8ish times until you see "you're a developer"
2. Go to settings-->developer options-->enable USB debugging
Now we need the desktop to recognize the phone
3. In your favorite text editor, you'll need to create a text file named /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
4. Copy this line into the file and save it:
Code:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="1004", MODE="0666", GROUP="plugdev"
(Source here)
5. In a terminal:
Code:
sudo chmod a+r /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
6.
Code:
sudo service udev restart && sudo killall -9 adb
6a. Get this file and
Code:
sudo chmod a+r ./qcdlcomm.py
from that directory. (Source)
Next steps are modified from here.
7. Download and extract the zip file: http://bit.ly/1Ln9FKB .
7a. Move qcdlcomm.py to wherever you extracted the above file.
8. Connect your phone. At some point you can choose your USB connection type. Reports state it only works with PTP mode (v. MTP), but I didn't try MTP.
9. Terminal:
Code:
adb devices
You should see your phone listed. Then, in the same directory as the files from step 7:
10.
Code:
adb push ./busybox /data/local/tmp && adb push ./UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip /data/local/tmp
Now you want to get in download mode.
11. Unplug and turn off your phone, then hold volume up as you plug the cable back in. You should see "download" or something on the screen.
Next steps taken from here.
12.
Code:
ls /dev/ttyUSB*
Make note of the devices. You'll try the highest device number first in a few steps.
13.
Code:
sudo rmmod cdc_acm && sudo rmmod usbserial
You'll get an error if there's anything else using usbserial. If so, sudo rmmod that module, then rerun
Code:
sudo rmmod usbserial
14.
Code:
sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x1004 product=0x633e
15.
Code:
sudo python ./qcdlcomm.py /dev/ttyUSB*< ./root
Replace the device with the output from step 12. Something should happen here. (BTW, at some point the phone screen says "flashing firmware" or something. There's a progress bar. It never moves past 0%"
16. Type "LEAVE" at the hash prompt that's left. At this point, your phone may not reboot. If not, type "exit" (or ctrl+c) and disconnect your phone. Then reconnect the phone.
17.
Code:
ls /dev/ttyUSB*
again. You may have lost a usb device. If so, repeat:
18.
Code:
sudo python ./qcdlcomm.py /dev/ttyUSB*
with the next highest device from above.
19. Type "LEAVE" again. Device should reboot. You should have root.
Some of this from memory, so if anyone has any suggestions, LMK. Hope this helps someone.
Good

These instructions killed my phone....
All steps went absolutely fine, except that the phone refused to boot. After the fact I found other, similar, instructions that also tell you to push and run lg_root.sh.

Well, I just got a new d851. This process was still harder than it should be. I had trouble at step 15; it never dropped me back to back to a hash prompt. I had the scary task of battery pulling/ctrl+c in the middle of the flash a couple of times, but no bricking. Also noticed a typo in my instructions, which took me a while to figure out. Those instructions wouldn't have worked as I originally posted them. Anyway, it worked again. Purple drake still didn't work, and there STILL doesn't appear to be an easy way to root on linux.

I notice my product ID differs from yours. Is this unimportant? I have been really wanting to get root on this for a while now, and this is the most promising looking aggregation of all available information I've found so far.
Don't know why the product ID would be different (at least the vendor ID should be the same). What's your dmesg/lsusb output? It uses the ID to create the udev rules in step 4, so you'd need it correct there. In step 14 I don't know if it would work if you left the vendor info out and just did a modprobe usbserial.

I was thinking I'd just substitute my ProdID in the necessary locations.
dmesg:
Code:

Sounds good, keep us updated.
Well, just got my third d851, running v30e firmware. Now doesn't work, getting stuck at step 15. When I plug in in download mode, the phone switches to the "firmware update" screen before I do anything. This is the dmesg output.

I tried plugging the reader on the OTG Sony cable I got with the phone, same error message.
Any idea?
People online mention a "USB detection" toggle but I don't seem to have such a thing.
Cheers!
Edit: the reader works fine on my computer, and another USB drive works fine on the phone with my OTG cable.
I think this specific micro-sd reader exceeds the mA threshold set on the phone, and I would like to override that threshold.
Hi. That is the thing. I've tried some computers, windows 7 and 10, linux,...
The phone charges OK, but does not recognizes when it is connected to a computer, does not show USB options to charge or access storage, and windows says "device malfunction" or alike.
Linux lsusb command does not list the phone.
I've tried changing cable, and drivers and adb tool are installed in computer, in all the OS's.
I've tried custom ROMs, 7.1 and 8.0, and one derived from stock (Freedom ROM), same result.
So, could I try something or is a hardware/connector fail?

Use FWUL (from USB stick! not in virtualbox) and do this in a terminal (small icon in the panel):
ensure the phone is NOT connected
Code:
sudo -s (enter password)
dmesg -c > /dev/null
-> Now connect the phone
lsusb
dmesg
Copy and share the whole output
.

it seems you forgot to do this command:
Code:
sudo -s (enter password)
dmesg -c > /dev/null
as that cleans the dmesg output.
for the future: use a paste service like http://bpaste.net to share output bigger then a few lines!
so do it again but this time slightly different:
power off PC
connect phone in download mode to the PC
turn on PC and boot FWUL
once FWUL is booted login and open a terminal again:
Code:
sudo -s
(enter password)
dmesg -c > /dev/null
lsusb
dmesg
(should be just a few lines)
copy the complete terminal output and paste it over to http://bpaste.net (and share the link)
.

well try other USB ports and other USB cables but besides that it looks like the USB port has died on the phone (happened to some others already as well).

I've tried other computer and OS's (my main OS is Manjaro at home), and W10 at workplace, and cables. So, USB died :crying:
Thank you very much for your time and help.
