anytime you odin a rom, it writes whatever filesystem is built into that rom. if you odin back to stock, it writes everything back to rfs. Most of the current GB roms are rfs with an option to convert to ext4 with the plus kernel.

upgrade from clockwork 2.5 to clockwork 3.0

I have clockwork 2.5, rfs, supernova, genocide kernal.
Can i just run 1click 3.0 to upgrade clockwork, and get ext4. Or do I have to return to stock first?
You can just run the one click.
Once installed, it will back up your phone, convert and restore your phone.
Make sure you have an EXT4 kernel on your SD card, or a dual filesystem (RFS & EXT4) kernal installed, or your phone will not boot once you install CWM 3.0.0.6 and convert to EXT4
AFAIK, the Genocide Kernel 0.3a does support RFS & EXT4

I think kernel would be ok too, but it shouldn't matter. Since I'm planning on installing frozen immediatly. I think I know everything I need to do. But could someone check my steps and make sure I don't forget something
first do 1click root 3.0. after converting to ext4(without reboot), wipe, wipe, wipe, flash frozen.
Seems to easy, I'm afraid I'm missing something.
That's pretty much all you do. ) Same steps I took.
I will flash it tomorrow, when I have all weekend to fix any screwups. Hopefully frozen 1.0.1 will come out tonight. But either way Its getting installed.
I have a need for speed!

yea that will give you 2.5.1.0. Its easy to use though. And the only reason you need Clockworkmod3(CWM3) is if you want to convert to an EXT4 filesystem. Benefits are a noticeable speed increase....but most roms that are EXT4 dont enable journaling (even faster) so you can possibly corrupt data (some or all) if you battery pull, quickboot (?), or other reboots that dont unmount safely...
If you really want CWM3 i suggest using ODIN and flash the EB13 file with 3.0.0.6 ...you can find this in development section...one file and you will be rooted and on EXT4.

EB05 and Root

I'm wanting to root my friend's Epic and stick to EB05 stock. She's wanting wifi tether. I've gathered that the 2.5.5 one-click will automatically EXT4. Is EB05 EXT4 compliant?
Here's the WiFi Tether method I intend to use.
Everything look okay?

Looks good to me. Though CWM 2.5 is RFS and CWM 3 is EXT4. So CWM 2.5 is compatible with the stock EC05. Where as you'd need a kernel that supports EXT4 if you wanted to use CWM3 and EXT4 (which is a much faster file system)
Good luck

Stock EH17 is RFS. If the ROM you are going to is EXT4 and does not convert for you, you will need the rfs2ext4 script. It may be in the CWM 3.1.0.1 thread in development. Then you would flash the EXT4 ROM before rebooting.

Flashing Cm7 question.

Hey guys, sorry for making another thread, but i would really like this resolved soon! Anyway, I want to flash cm7, but in the thread it says:
"If you from stock / custom rom based on rfs filesystem, u must flash ext4-formatter.zip before flash CyanogenMod. link & instruction can fount on This Thread. otherwise you'll stuck on android logo because it cant mount rfs filesystem!"
Im coming from stock rom, i don't know if it is based on rfs filesystem (because I'm still a noob), so I would just like to know if I should flash it first.
Also, should I factory reset from CWM first, or can i do it after?
Thanks!
Flash cm7, then wide data and cache, wait 5 minutes, and its booting.
Note you choose the best recovery, I recommend to use clockworkmod with ext and rfs support

That's the one I have installed, so I'm good! Thanks for the help!

when in doubt, use the version with most compatibility =)
ext4+rfs worked fine for my Gio with stock ROM 2.3.3
