upgrade from clockwork 2.5 to clockwork 3.0 - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have clockwork 2.5, rfs, supernova, genocide kernal.
Can i just run 1click 3.0 to upgrade clockwork, and get ext4. Or do I have to return to stock first?

You can just run the one click.
Once installed, it will back up your phone, convert and restore your phone.

Make sure you have an EXT4 kernel on your SD card, or a dual filesystem (RFS & EXT4) kernal installed, or your phone will not boot once you install CWM 3.0.0.6 and convert to EXT4
AFAIK, the Genocide Kernel 0.3a does support RFS & EXT4

I think kernel would be ok too, but it shouldn't matter. Since I'm planning on installing frozen immediatly. I think I know everything I need to do. But could someone check my steps and make sure I don't forget something
first do 1click root 3.0. after converting to ext4(without reboot), wipe, wipe, wipe, flash frozen.
Seems to easy, I'm afraid I'm missing something.

That's pretty much all you do. ) Same steps I took.

I will flash it tomorrow, when I have all weekend to fix any screwups. Hopefully frozen 1.0.1 will come out tonight. But either way Its getting installed.
I have a need for speed!

So i need to flash the Kernel and i need to upgrade to ext4 to boot with the new kernel -.- anoying .... how to upgrade? All Recovery functions in this case are lost

[Q] Does Unrevoked 3.31 with Clockworkmod 2.6 have ext4

Clockworkmod 3.0.0.2 has support for ext4 and would auto convert your filesystem when installed. (please correct me if I am wrong).
However, Unrevoked v3.31 downgraded the version of Clockworkmod being used from 3.0.0.x into 2.6.
My question is, does Clockworkmod 2.6 also have support for ext4?
Ext4 is supported on the Epic... haven't read anything for Evo...
Bobby O's Evo..
Thanks for the info rob97ss.
Anyone else? Does Clockworkmod 2.6 also have support for ext4?
As a matter of fact YES IT DOES
Ive done it as my first time rooting my phone and it worked !
Also i tried it on my Samsung Transform which also worked

[Q] rooting to cwm 3 and ext4 but...

i rooted, then tried to do the root for ext4 and my device just stays on the samsung screen. so i went back to dk28 unrooted stock. rooted again using one click, tried to root to ext4 and it did the same thing, so i went back to dk 28. rooted and tried loading bonsai4allleaflessv2.0.1, and it says the install is aborted... any one have an idea as to what i can try to do?
I don't think you understand what you are doing.
Rooting gives you permission to make changes to protected areas. There is no way to "root to ext4."
Cwm3 will convert the file system to ext4 if the rom specifies it. There is another way to convert to ext4 using a combo of cwm 2.5.1.0 and 2.5.1.2, but it is more complicated.
Bonsai 2.0 has issues installing over stock dk28, but shouldn't get stuck at the Samsung screen.
Getting stuck at the Samsung screen can be caused by a number of issues, one of which is using a rom that is not compatible with your file system.
thanks, yeah i was trying to install an old rfs version of a rom that i had, it was named incorrectly and i found the proper ext4 version of bonsai and it booted properly

yea that will give you 2.5.1.0. Its easy to use though. And the only reason you need Clockworkmod3(CWM3) is if you want to convert to an EXT4 filesystem. Benefits are a noticeable speed increase....but most roms that are EXT4 dont enable journaling (even faster) so you can possibly corrupt data (some or all) if you battery pull, quickboot (?), or other reboots that dont unmount safely...
If you really want CWM3 i suggest using ODIN and flash the EB13 file with 3.0.0.6 ...you can find this in development section...one file and you will be rooted and on EXT4.

EB05 and Root

I'm wanting to root my friend's Epic and stick to EB05 stock. She's wanting wifi tether. I've gathered that the 2.5.5 one-click will automatically EXT4. Is EB05 EXT4 compliant?
Here's the WiFi Tether method I intend to use.
Everything look okay?

Looks good to me. Though CWM 2.5 is RFS and CWM 3 is EXT4. So CWM 2.5 is compatible with the stock EC05. Where as you'd need a kernel that supports EXT4 if you wanted to use CWM3 and EXT4 (which is a much faster file system)
Good luck
