How Do You Get To Recovery? - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So here is the story. I had a stock 3G Slide. I updated to Official 2.2 using HTC Sync/whatever it is called.
I got root using by ADBing PSNeuter then flashing ESPRIMG. So now I am on this
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Build Number 1.18.531.1 CL164069 test-keys

I have CWM's update.zip on my SDCard, my question is how do I boot into recovery to flash this?
I removed the ESPRIMG file from my SDCard after I flashed it successfully and then got into HBoot by Vol Down + PWR, and tried going to recovery but all I see is a phone image with a red triangle and ! in it
Am I missing a step here/am I totally ****ed?

When you see the red triangle, hold up volume and hit the power button. That will take you into recovery and you choose update.zip from there.

That worked. I clicked update.zip and it went into CWM. I went to then backup the current rom and when I go to select it using Power and my screen just turns off. Same thing happens when I go to apply a ROM.

Try selecting by pressing in the trackpad instead of the power button.

Use the camera button, that will work, the power button acts as a back button in CWM.

Problem runing Recovery from ROM Manager

Hi!!
I've been using ROM Manager since it appears.
Today I've tried lates nightly release of CM6, and now, when I try to restart into Recovery From Rom Manager, all I get is the Red Exclamation... I've tried to reinstall recovery, but is the same...
Any Idea?
Thanks!
i dont think you have updated the clockwork recovery to the latest version have you? also did u install the latest radio?
Yes to both.
Either, i tried to install a previous version of recovery, and still didn't work.
when you get into the screen with the phone and the red !
press vol up + power button together and then let go
a blue screen will appear
go down to apply update.zip and press the power button
you are now in clockwork recovery.

Stuck at Red Caution sign recovery mode

I brought my phone back to stock before 2.2. Whenever I try to flash the recovery I get brought to the Evo background with the red caution sign. I have tried Simple root .1, and the OTA version and I also used the evo recovery file.
Its not working, I can't flash my recovery.
How are you trying to flash recovery?
When you get to the red caution screen hit volume up/down and the power button together, and it should take you to the recovery.

If you fully converted to stock before going to 2.2 then you no longer have a custom recovery. If you reverted to a stock rooted 1.47 build and then flashed a stock rooted 3.26 build your recovery should still be there. What is version number is your hboot?
Thanks Guys figured it out.

[Q] Boot into recovery without Vol(+) button?

I got my phone a bit damp while skiing and now the + vol button doesn't work. I would like to keep playing around with Roms however the inability to flash an update.zip to boot into clockwork mod worries me too much.
Is there anyway to get into the standard recovery without holding the + and pushing power? Or possibly hard-flash clockwork mod?
Gas
---Solved, flashed recovery using unREVoked, works well now. Thanks everyone, back continuous unadulterated flashing---
Well, ROM manager can boot into recovery, but obviously that requires a working ROM.
Regards,
Dave
Install ROM Manager from the Marketplace, use the custom clockwork recovery image in my sig (fake flash). You can then install the custom recovery image from the root of your sd card using ROM Manager. To flash ROMs in the future, in ROM Manager, select the 'Install ROM from sd card option'. You can then use the trackpad to navigate through the recovery menu options instead of the Vol key.

Yeah I know I can get there from Clockworkmod, but the rom needs to be working. I'm worried about flashing anything else in case one of the roms is broken.
I've read that unrevoked rooted phones can do it, can I use the unrevoked method even though I'm already rooted with Paul's riskfree?
If you turn on your phone while pressing the "Back"button on the right of the (OJ)optical joystick, your phone boots in "Fastboot"
Then you select "Bootloader" by pressing the powerbutton
If one of your vol buttons still works, you can press it untill you've selected recovery
Et Voila

I can get to the recovery screen, black phone with red exclamation mark in triangle. It is at this screen I need the vol(+) button. Hmmm...not too confident about flashing roms anymore

Use UnrEVOked to permanently flash a recovery image onto your phone.
Regards,
Dave
From terminal
su
reboot recovery
Also works
Where to from here?
I have been reading up on fastboot, in which I should be able to restore a nandroid backup if flashing a rom fails. This doesn't need the recovery console, there is some contingency I guess.
Has anyone used unrevoked on a prerooted device? are the steps the same?
Gas
For instructions for flashing a permanent recovery image (UnrEVOked) are pretty straightforward. Please see the following link for more information:
http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709146
Just make sure you have HTC Sync uninstalled beforehand. To remove UnrEVOked, simply flash your original RUU file, which will also return you to stock and remove root.

this will completely restore his phone to stock. ie; what ever rom he was using before, so be aware he is goint to lose everything.
yank the battery, put it back in
reboot into recovery
(hold Vol. Down and then hit the power button for like 2 seconds, once in the white screen with menu [fastboot] use vol. down to highlight recovery and hit power button) (if the fastboot menu asks if you want to flash the PC36Img file tell it NO. and it will take you back to the regular fastboot menu.)
do a full wipe
restore a nand backup or just reflash the rom he was using.
trying it now
it says no image

Galaxy Nexus unable to boot to recovery.

Hello,
I have a Galaxy Nexus GSM. I rooted it and unlocked the bootloader using Galaxy Nexus toolkit a while ago, and flashed the 4.1.1 stock ROM (Build number JRO03C). Yesterday i received a notification for a system update to 4.1.2. I hit download, phone rebooted into recovery, i chose to flash the rom and everything seemed fine, however i'm still on the older version 4.1.1. Now, when i try to boot my phone into recovery (VOL_DOWN & Power Button) it shows me the boot screen and says "Downloading, please do not turn off" and i can't do anything. If I hit the power button again the phone reboots normally. Any ideas what I can do?
Sorry if I am at the wrong section.

Volume down and power is the key combo for Odin download mode. You want volume up, volume down, and power. This will take you into the bootloader. From there, you can use volume up/down to scroll to recovery and press power to load into recovery.
That used to happen to me.....I later realised that it's Coz of the update....well simply return to the previous version of the app and re-flash without the upgrade. Hope it helps u out too.

Look at the stickies in the general forum. There is one for flashing an OTA & one for flashing a stock ROM, take your pick
