You have to flash recovery with fastboot, fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (put recovery.img in same folder as fastboot)

You could also try running the RUU while booted in fastboot (just connect USB, and run RUU). I believe I did this once... Not 100% sure if it was fastboot or bootloader, just check them both...

When you want to flash ruu, your phone has to be fastboot mode, otherwise it won't get recognized.

[Q] How do i unbrick my Desire using fastboot?

So i had my phone rooted, and S-OFF, but wanted to return to stock.
Ran the RUU that i thought was the correct one, and now my Desire is stuck in a black screen. It does not show _anything_ at all.
I did however find out i can get into fastboot, so i'm hoping there is some way to save my phone.
There are tons of guides, but i can't figure out which one to follow. Anyone want to point me into the right direction?
also... if it matters at all, giving in fastboot oem boot, i get this:
... INFO[ERR] boot image does not exist!!!
But i have no clue on how to get a new boot image on my desire using fastboot (and besides, there could be a lot more missing)?
Sounds like you ran an older RUU on an SLCD phone. You could try a newer RUU, get one that is version 2+ (2.14.207.1_ for example). Boot into Fastboot USB, install it.
If that's what happened you aren't bricked, you just have a ROM that doesn't support SLCD screens, so shows black.
So I should be able to install a RUU when my phone is in fastboot? Because when running the exe, it's telling me it can't find a device on the USB port. Or am I supposed to put in some commands on fastboot?

I've installed RUU's via fastboot. No commands you just wait for it to say 'Fastboot USB' and it should work.
By Fastboot I mean boot into the bootloader (pwr + vol down), navigate to fastboot (If you can't see it, once in boot loader, wait about 15secs then press the pwr button and you should be in fastboot), then you should be able to install the correct RUU.
Nothing to do with the Android SDK fastboot

Try this:
1. power down
2. remove battery
3. press and hold power button for 10 sec.
4. reinstall battery
5. press and hold the volume down button
6. press the power button to turn the phone on but DO NOT release the volume button until you can see the boot screen.
when you are in the boot screen one of the options in the list should say recovery. use the volume button to navigate down to that option and press the power button to select it. your phone should then boot into recovery and you will get the recovery screen and choices.
thanks
i did it but when i get into recovery i see the phone with the sing and then i reboot get stock in htc evo 4g logo if u have any idea how to get into the phone to flash any rom would b perfect tnx
Sounds like it could be a USB brick. This has happened to me before. I remember when that happened to me and couldn't get into recovery. For some reason when I plugged in the micro usb to the phone it would let me boot into recovery. Give that a shot and try searching usb brick. Also my sd card could not be recognized once I booted into recovery.
How did you try to downgrade?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
ok well i flash 2 programs 1 flash_image 2 mtd-eng then run the pc36img but nothing happen it says cant roll back hboot n i reboot the phone n i went to the bootloader n it was locked n i try to enter to the recovery n show me the phone w/ the sing...
any idea where can i get an usb brick??
I'm not familiar with a USB brick, but I believe that your computer can still read your phone through USB. I see that you were trying to S-OFF the phone. Looks like something went wrong when you flashed the misc partition, which locked your bootloader once again.
You should try running an RUU file from your computer with your phone connected which can be found here.
http://goo.im/stock/supersonic/ruu/...15.00.12.19_NV_2.33_release_234563_signed.exe
But first, you will need to install the Fastboot drivers to your computer which can be found here
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
You need to run the RUU from your phone's bootloader from FASTBOOT USB (click on Fastboot then run the RUU from your computer).
If that works, that should at least get your phone back going again (unrooted of course).
i did but w/ the ruu doesnt work too appears error 155 unknow problem n stops i dont know what else to do
Just checking, did you run the RUU in FASTBOOT USB which should have been highlighted in red from your bootloader after clicking FASTBOOT? Also, with your phone connected to your computer while in FASTBOOT USB, check your computer's device manager from the control panel and see do you see anything under Android USB devices.
And too, which PC36IMG file did you try to run?
Sounds like you tryed to downgrade your hboot to the Eng hboot. If that is what you did, then congradulations! You have successfully bricked your device! Hboots are generally NOT downgradable...especially 2.18 to eng

Yea, I was afraid that the wrong PC36IMG file was indeed used. Generally on the newer phones, any downgrade of the Hboot below 2.02 is a guaranteed brick. That's why Captain Throwback only recommends PC36IMG files down to Hboot 2.10 (the 2.02 ones don't work with S-ON phones). On the older hardware however, the Hboot can be downgraded to anything, including 0.76 from 2.18. I've done it on mines. You just have to know which hardware version and partition erasesize your phone has.
the one that i get from evohacks pc36img i think i need one way to flash a rom

The best advice that I can give you is to reboot the phone into FASTBOOT USB (connect it to your computer, then go to your bootloader and click on FASTBOOT), then go back to the HTCdev site, start over and try to re-unlock your bootloader. If you can do that, then I may have a workaround for you If not, there might not be much else that you can do.
ok i did everything that u tell me n now i rename the zip (ss_stock_4.67.651) in PC36IMG n then reflash recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3 now i can get into the recovery menu n i flash the rename (ss_stock_4.67.651) PC36IMG n i have a rom from sprint but now i still cant use adb command so what else shuld i do to recovery to normal n there r many issues that cant load like mail that is forced to sptop unexpected n thank u for all ur help!!

Oh no. I don't know which tutorial you got those instructions from.
I'm also lost with your description of what happened. I hope you unlocked your bootloader, and can now boot into the operating system. If so, you were not suppose to rename the ss_stock_4.67 file to PC36IMG. You were suppose to flash that through RECOVERY as is. If I were you, I would go back to RECOVERY, and wipe All Factory/Reset (or whatever it says) and Dalvik-cache, then reflash the ss_stock file or another ROM.
Second, the adb commands only work from the operating system, not FASTBOOT. You need to be inside the operating system with your phone connected to your computer and USB Debugging enabled under Settings/Applications.
ok here i am
i change the name cos the bootloader let me flash the recovery amon ra 2.3 then i can see the recovery menu n i flash the rom named pc36img n give me the sprint w/ errors now i download another rom that i flash n now my computer can read the sdcard but im still locked n i dont know if im still rooted so the what i think is i have a usb brick so i need to unbrick my usb to use the adb command so i apreciate ur help w/ this thanks all of u for ur help

[Q] Fastboot not recognized?

Dear all,
After my phone was stuck in a bootloop i've been trying to reflash the recovery which i'm not able to access.
I have used revolutionary and have been using MIUI for a while, further details:
Bravo PVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
I'm trying to fix this on my moms pc and I notice there's some problems with the adb/fastboot since it gives me an error of a missing AdbWinApi.dll when trying to flash the recovery from android-sdk/tools.
However, the error does not appear when I run fastboot from \platform-tools. Could that be correct? If I do, the command box is waiting for the device and seems to be stuck there. when using the command adb devices, my desire is not listed.
What am I doing wrong here? Thnx!
and fastboot drivers installed?
download here
phone must be in fastboot (power+back button)
try: fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
recovery.img= path/filename of your recovery
Can't access recovery after flash with fastboot
Awesome! thnx I had been installing drivers, but apparently the right one wasn't there.
Unfortunately, next problem... (is it ok to ask it here?) I've flashed the recovery, but the bootloop still exist. Is the S-on option of bortaks guide safe to try next? or are there other (better) alternatives?
edit: never mind! the ruu indeed worked pfieuw... thnx for the help!
glad to hear that, enjoy
i cant see my device with adb on linux.
last time i had flash the hboot from the phone!
i use kubuntu 12.04 with 3.4 kernel.
can you give me any help?
adb works in custom recovery/rom with debugging on, fastboot command in fastboot mode (power +back button to power on phone or reboot to bootloader from custom rom with APM)

//Edit: I tried to reinstall recovery with AndroidFlasher but this doesn't work.

More information needed, S-off or on, hboot version, have you tried with fastboot commands, did you use AndroidFlasher from fastboot or bootloader...
S-oof,
HBOOT-6.93.1002
what fastboot commands?
I used AndroidFlasher from fastboot!
fastboot commands to flash recovery. would look like this
fastboot flash recovery C:\ recovery.img
where recovery.img is just put the name of the recovery u downloaded and assuming u put it in ur C drive
Sent from my HTC Desire
doesn't work, the image is in c:\ and is named "recovery.img" but ther comes the error: "cannot determine image filename for 'C:\recovery.img'"
i just posted 4ext recovery as PB99IMG in desire general, take a look n try it
Sent from my HTC Desire
You downloaded the right img, did you? From the 4ext Recovery Thread i found this link: http://www.4ext.net/ddl/bravo/recovery.zip
It should just be download, extract, run command in fastboot mode. Make sure you entered the right path.

[Q] vodafone branded DHD Stuck on white htc logo

Hello together
i really need your help, i think i just bricked my phone.
like the title says i got a german vodafone branded DHD which is now stuck on the white background with the green htc logo.
Original rom version: 3.13.161.5
Android 2.3.5
radio 26.14.52.27
bootloader 2.00.0027
the story:
after updating hboot to version 2.00.0029 i was able to unlock the bootloader via htc dev and the easy ace root tool.
i created a goldcard
then i started the now installed cwm and tried to install cynaogen 7.xx (dont know the version exactly)
after this the device dindt want to boot anymore or let me even enter the bootloader
i mangaged to get into the bootloader again via "adb reboot bootloader" command
then i have done the recommended "full wipe" of all caches and installed cyanogen 7.2.0 + the boot.img file and the other zip file that belongs to non-sense roms.
AND now it wont start anymore or let me acces the bootloader again, even the adb or fastboot commands don't work
i downloaded an original stock htc ruu, it doesnt recognize my phone, none of the tools does
as you can see from my post im a noob, i got the phone now for 2 days and hope i didnt brick it.
can anybody help me?
How did you flash the boot.img? What other zip are you referring to?

boot.img via cmd window, this file was named gapps-gb-20110828-signed and i understood to install this one additionally to the system image
current state of affairs:
le me idiota, didnt recognise i can pull out the battery....
now i finally figured out how to get into the bootloader again, i am even able to start clockword mod recovery and install zip files from there and also the acces via cmd window works again.
but even if i install the zip from the sd card and flash the boot image via console into the phone, the system doesnt start
my problem now is (i just think this is the problem) that i wiped all caches and therefore there is no more usb debuging enabled and the system wont start. also my hboot says it is unlocked but s-on.
