Exchange Sub Folders - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I understand the usual problems that the mail in sub folders doesn't sync until you force it but my problem is slightly different and has been baffling me. When I initially started the mail app it set itself up with my inbox and the sub-folders. I create and delete sub-folders as projects come and go but the sub-folders on my incredible stubbornly refuse to ever change to match the new folders I have created on exchange. I can't find anyway of forcing the app to resync the sub folders themselves and really don't want to have to delete and recreate the account everytime I start a new project sub-folder in my exchange mail. I've always been working on windows mobile so android is a relatively new experience for me here. Does anyone know of a solution?

So after much searching and digging I have finally found what the problem is - there is a long discussion at http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9017
Upshot seems to be in the type of folder that is created when you create a new folder between different software, e.g. I use Outlook for Mac and when you create new exchange sub-folders they don't replicate to the android device. This seems to be a known bug.
Solution is to go to outlook web access when you need to create new sub-folders and do them there. That instantly replicates to the device on synch.
Anyway, posting the answer to my own question in case it helps someone else out sometime.

Outlook 2003 --> Organize Contacts w/ Folders

I have all my contacts on my phone in alphabetical order and I was looking for a better way to organize everything by category.
I came across this: Outlook 2003: Organize contacts with folders and thought that would have been perfect.
So after following the instructions on my home computer, I ended up making a few different folders and categorized all my contacts.
Now when I plugged the phone in to the ActiveSync 4.2, it looked for changes as normal and then when it was finished I seen that all my Contacts were gone
Now is there a way to have it see the different "folders" under Contacts or did I waste my time?
I did something similar but I put the catergories on the phone first and they were then found on Outlook 2003. Try it that waty round first and see how you go?
AIUI Activesync only syncs the top level folder in Outlook contacts - which I am guessing is empty?

I organise by Category and apply a Category filter in Pocket Informant when necessary.

Could you put into detail on how you did that or tell me where you found out how to do that with the instruction booklet?
I have sorted my contacts into categories. What I want to have is friends contacts when I'm at home and work when I'm...at work
However if I set view by one of those categories, it's ok, but when I open contacts the next time it goes back to showing them ALL
Any ideas ?

Hotmail Sync Problem

Hi,
Im havin problems syncing my hotmail account through the windows live program - it syncs contacts and the inbox perfectly and get all the info - but it does not sync all my other folders.
I like to put my emails into different folder (e.g. University, Ebay, Play.com, Family etc etc) so I keep myself organised. The thing is if I want a file that a friend sent me two weeks ago and I put it in the University folder I cannot get to it and would have to transfer it before hand from my pc to my inbox. (ie the mails inside my other folder are not being synced)
Is there any way I can solve this? Maybe some setting I missed or an update to WMLive that fixes this?
Thanks to anyone for his help
JP
Hi,
I'm facing the same problem but haven't found a solution yet... :'(
In you inbox screen tap menu in the bottom right and then extra. There should be an option manage folders i think. I dont know exactly because my phone is not english. It is the second option in the extra menu. You can just check the boxes of the folders you want synchronized.
yes its called manage folders
thanks a lot
also, not sure if it interests you or if it even answers the issue but hotmail's mobile website looks fantastic on the Opera browser...
My main email is on AOL and I've just ditched the buggy email client for AOL's wap portal...
give it a try!

Touch pro 2 email issue

I just bought a tp2 from Sprint. After setting up my email accounts and using the phone for a few days, and talking to Sprint support, I discovered that the phone does not support deleting emails from the server even though there is an option on the phone to do just that. If this is true then I will have to delete them from my computer even though I've already reviewed them. Has anyone else had this issue/ found a way around it?
Are you using IMAP or POP3? If you are using POP3, I don't know that there will ever be and answer to that. that is why I switched to IMAP. My sent messages and any changes I make are synched between phone, server, and desktop. The only problem is if you use a lot of folders, I am still trying to figure out a way for it to alert me when a new mail arrives in a folder other than the main folder. . ..
Thanks, I'm afraid it's POP3 for me. Looks like no joy.
Where's your email through? May still be able to switch if you want.
My email comes through Godaddy. Thanks, does that help?
Yup. You may be in luck:

This gives you instructions on how to access your Go-daddy email via IMAP instead of POP3. How familiar are you with IMAP? If you are not, I"d look into it. There are great benefits. It takes some serious switching over if you use Outlok or TBird on your desktop, as you will need to totally switch over to IMAP. Basically the idea is that the folders reside on the server instead of your computer.
I will warn you that on the TP2 and tilt2 (and pretty much any phone, from what I understand) there is no way to be alerted about emails that arrive to certain folders. In other words if you have serverside rules or even desktop rules that move emails to folders upon arrival, you will be able to see and read them on your phone, but you won't be alerted on their arrival. There are a few programs that are supposed to fix this but I have not found any that work for me (currently running Energy MaxSense Rom with WinMo 6.5, Also tried on the stock HTC TF 3d ROM, no dice. Even tried SPB Shell)
The concensus I have heard is that the reason no one, including M$ have tried to fix this is because there is an overiding belief that setting up rules to automatically deliver mail to folders is risky (what if you didn't catch the email?) and not the best setup from an organizational point of view.
They say you should have all emails go to your inbox and then move them to folders by yourself after you read them, thus sorting them and giving your brain physical evidence of having "dealt" with them (this mostly comes from the Getting Things Done crowd).
I was never sold on that, but I might be switching to this methodology out of necessity, since other wise I have to check all folders constantly.
Please, anyone, correct me if there is a better solution.

Just a note on Thunderbird for the desktop. It is quite possible to have both IMAP and POP for the same account in TB. I do it for my work account. I have the POP account so that I keep my emails locally, and I use the IMAP (Inbox) to delete mail off the server.

[Q] Exchange folder sync

For Exchange mail accounts, I'm assuming you can select which folders you want to sync (have pushed to the phone) - correct?
And for multiple accounts, can you set different notification (vibrate, sound) types per account?
Go to the folders of the Exchange Account and show all folders. You will then be presented your folders. Select the folder you want to sync and tap on that folder. It will then sync and bring it up one level and you will see that folder below your main inbox.
You can't set custom ring tones to each account.
1. yes (at first only inbox will, but you can view the folder and say syncronise this folder)
2. no, not at present
My company just migrated me to Exchange last night. I'm able to sync my in box and the folders I want to sync but I have rules on Exchange that move some emails into certain folders. Once this happens I'm not getting notified that I have a new email from that person who the rule is set for.
Any suggestions?
It doesn't support alerting when items appear in subfolders of the inbox. A workaround would be to turn those rules off so messages arrive in your inbox. Then run the rules manually periodically to clean it up.
Does it at least update the Hotmail/Outlook Live Tile when a new mail comes to the sub-folder?
Without any sort of notification to the user that a message is there, it's pretty damn useless to use. Mind as well just use POP3 or IMAP on a 30 minute poll or something instead...

No it doesn't update the tile, you can sync the sub folders but if you don't select all folders to see if there is anything new there.
The only work around I could find was to create a rule to just move a copy to the folder and leave the original in the inbox. It is a terrible solution but at least it kind of works.
I don't think this is a WP7 issue since a co-worker has an iPhone and he has the same issue.

Creating email folder in WP7?

I did a search in XDA and also in Google and could not find anything relating to how to make a folder in an email account in WP7. Google seems to think any search for Windows Phone 7 is a query for Windows 7.
Anyway, I did it before on the phone, in the beginning, but now am stumped by how to do it. I need to create an email folder. Anyone know?
i haven't found the option for it. i think the only work around at present is to do it from PC, and then sync the new folder to the phone.

It isn't an IMAP account (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo). It's the POP email account the ISP provides with home internet service...or whatever the email accounts are that use Outlook Express, Thunderbird, etc. I know I did make several folders initially because those folders are showing up on my phone and they would have no way of syncing with a POP account... Thunderbird email, which I use, doesn't have any way of syncing with the phone. And if it did, I have no user-created folders in my Thunderbird email. If that email account did actually sync, there would be no specific folders.
