I am experiencing slow WIFI Speeds of 54mbps and dropping to 18mbps in some cases. I've checked my router and the problem doesn't rely there.
If anyone has a WiFi patch/fix of somesort to get Wireless N speed, please share the link.

Maybe your SD Card is too slow to write more than 1.8mb/s ?

? I'm talking about WIFI speed, how is SD Card related?
there are patches that enable WiFi N but i think they are rom-related.
like the one baadnewz did for insertcoin (downloadable as an add-on from his webpage)

Well you can even have 100mbit WIFI speed, but when you are downloading something to the SD on the Phone it's limited to the write/read speed of the SD Card.
Correct me if im wrong lol.
For example i have Wireless 'G', but i can get around 1.3mbps max download speed because ****ty sd card.
Hope you know what i mean.

Your right since downloads are stored and used as cache on your SD card. You should think about getting a genuine class 10 card if your a fan of speed.
If you would like to do an internet speed test then use this site http://www.speedtest.net/ or install the app on the android market.
Oh and wireless N is enabled in the latest Gingerbread update according to a few reviewers, not that I've reviewed this myself but will do when I install the update.
I thought hardware wise the Desire only had b and g, not n. Or am I missing something about the patches?

I know... I'm baffled about this one too mate
The newly released GB from hTC has wifi b/g/n as stated on the hardware page under the settings. The hardware has alawys supported n, they just haven't enabled it untill now. In real life difference isn´t all that big. I get 22 mbit/s now instead of 15 before. This is with a 100 mbit connection through a dlink dir655.
I am using 802.11n for quite a while. The speed is good, and compare with 802.11g, there is definitely difference in throughput.
I have the rom Reflex v1.2.7 and has WiFi n as can be seen in the attached picture. I found speed difference switching from Wifi b/g to Wifi n use whith a n wifi router obviously......
How can you tell if you have b, n, or g wifi and what's the difference? System info doesn't show this info.

Yes, but that doesn't mean to say it's logical though. It may just be that in his case he found it was faster but the difference between them may be something else and not based on speed.

I know this because I have configured my router as well as can be seen in the attached capture. This router lets you set automatic modes or set only b, g or n mode and I configured Wireless n.
On the other hand, when I check work perfectly otherwise the signal gets weaker ....

IIRC, there was an article (forgot where ) comparing handsets like Desire, Galaxy S, iPhone and Torch...
I recall them testing both download and upload...
On average all of them hovers around 12-20Mbps mark...
I found that the wireless n patch is still available on mediafire: mediafire(dot)com/?34oo489d9roqf#4g812p9sfh8iy
Am I right in thinking that since desire ROMs are still using the old kernel that this could be used somehow with a 4.0+ ROM?
Not enough posts for links -.-

The value displayed in the picture comes from a text entry in the build.prop of that ROM. You could edit it to say "802.11greencheese" and that's what it would display. The only way to truly tell is to get your Access Point to display what rate the connection to/from your Desire really is.

Nope. Wifi just sucks. It's always one of the reasons why Android always locks up for me, actually.
*crai*
So, wifi on Android just sucks? :< It's better on WinMo though, which I don't really get.
Since wifi is painfully slow on Android, how else would I get applications on it? A much faster method xD
Wifi seems fine for me... Faster than 3g, which is all I really ask for when using it...

I said I used a RAPH previously... I've only had the RHOD for about a month now, had a RAPH for 2 years before that. So I'm not just shooting off the hip assuming... I ran XDAndroid on my RAPH for a loooooong time.
Well uhm, I'm using a Touch Pro but that's as far as I know. Perhaps I used a wrong startup? What would I use instead?
nothing there will make a difference.
do a test. using the regular browser (not opera or anything) goto mobilespeedtest.com or speedtest.net and do a test and see what it tells you. would help if you also have a computer on the same router to test against.
you can test 3g and wifi and your computer to see the differences in speed.

Annndd.. there's probably a good chance this will get ignored because "it works for me".
Perhaps wifi is unstable on the 110, but I seriously doubt it. Besides, that dude is talking about the radio finding new towers, what does that have to do with wifi?
I find the radio is unstable as well. I actually thought it was just a CDMA thing. I thought we were talking about slow wifi speeds tho... Now I'm just confused.

i think you are starting to get confused here. are we still talking about wifi or have we moved on to 3g now?
honestly almost nothing here is truely stable. our ril still needs alot of work and that is what talks with the towers.
wifi however shouldn't have any real issues. wifi is working on every model of the supported devices and as you can see, this is the first thread regarding wifi issues.
the wifi is supported by the kernel. kernel changes shouldn't make a difference as the wifi drivers haven't changed. however the devs are trying to get hopspot support working which may impact wifi. if you are having issues, report a bug.

what type of issues? system rebooting into android? rebooting into winmo? force closes? radio crashes?
i do not want to blame the device but my g/f who just gave me her diamond had alot of issues running xdandoird. come to find out her phone had issues in general and had nothing to do with xdandroid.
this may or may not be a similar issue to your. that will be for you to let us know.
if you have the time, rename your data.img to data.img.bak and launch haret.exe. it will build a new data.img and from there run the same basic tasks that cause issues for you now. since our build is still in the "building it" stage, some apps will cause issues without you noticing. the only real way to tell if an issue is the system or if it is an installed app is to test it with a clean system to see how things come out. this doesn't always solve the problem and if it does not let us know.
your said you have a raph110, Stinebd who is one of the main developers on this project has a raph110 so if there are any real issues with xdandroid and that device, it will be known. as such i have not heard from him with any real stability issues using the radio or the wifi (i believe he no longer has service on the device however).
if your one of the luck cdma users there are more issues as there are no real devs working on the cdma side of things for our devices. there are alot of radio stability issues as the ril is not complete and is a hacked hack version of the gsm radio made to work on the cdma network.
hope this makes sense.

Anywho, for all those going "It works for me" Yeah well... It doesn't. I'm getting 14mbps wireless, but on the phone I'm getting 84kbps which is... Odd. I'm currently using the SuperFroyo port. I've had experience with the xdandroid version and it's wi-fi was actually pretty good compared to this. Kernels perhaps?
1: Is there a way that i can change the default save location for the camera from my SD to the internal storage? and the 2nd question is just out of curiosity but is there any way that i can extend the range of the wifi chip in the phone? i live out in the sticks and my neighbor lets me use his wifi but its hard for the phone to find it cause its such a weak signal...
It depends. what rom are you using?

is there something that we can enter into terminal if we do have N support? and im using MIUI 1.8.26
1) Pretty much every ROM I've ever used allows you to specify where captured media is saved to.
2) The easiest solution to your wifi problem isn't technical gymnastics with a power-limited device. The easiest solution would be a focused microwave antenna. With a decent focused antenna, you could could pick up that wifi signal for several miles. I've seen it done. You're probably looking at a distance much less than that, which makes your options much cheaper. Plus, it's a much more effective solution than .11N because the signal strength benefit from the focused antenna will yield better throughput over that distance than .11N.
i found a video on youtube that had instructions from a XDA Member it showed something about changing a file in /system/lib/modules and he got the dormant wireless N to work. ill put a link up. http://youtu.be/LXbMf47kXqc
EDIT: i havent found any settings in the MIUI to change the default location... :'(
I've run Wifi Tether, EasyTether Pro, and ClockworkMod Tether. All give me tethered speeds <= 1Mbps up and down.
This is a Galaxy Nexus LTE with unlocked bootloader and Root. Stock otherwise and no radio update.
Running on OSX 7.2.
I can run the speed test from the same location and get 25Mbps+ while running the test from my phone.
I can do this while running any of the tethering apps as well and I'll still get blazing speeds on my phone, but terrible on my computer.
It's definitely not a USB problem as the computer is USB 2.0 and there are no other devices plugged in.
It's also not a general computer issue as I've tested on other machines, both Mac and Windows.
Anyone have any ideas on how to hunt down the problem?
Looking for any suggestions at all...
I've only run Speed test once while tethering, but my speed was 1Mbps just like you. I should mention that I have a stock SGN and that I have the hotspots option in my plan. My download speed just a minute later using only the phone was 15Mbps.
I wonder if there is some internal throttle in ICS or Verizon's version of it.

I do wired tethering via PDANet and average 3 - 5mbps with this phone. It was about the same before & after root. I think it could also be tied in to the radio(reception issues). With past 4G phones I had both better reception and much faster data speeds. I'd say we're probably going to have to sit tight and hope that Verizon releases a fix soon.
It may be related to the stock ROM. I'm running CM9 and get a cap of around 12mbps on wifi tether. Never tested on USB, but I have to assume the cap is due to Wi-Fi limitations.
When tethering via USB, your tether speeds will be limited to the same speed as the slowest USB device connected to your PC at the time. That means unplug all other USB peripherals (where possible) or upgrade them to faster models if you want improve your tether speeds. Koush posted this in his notes somewhere (either in the app description itself on the market, or on his Google+ page) - I remember reading his full disclosure about this issue.
TL;DR version = unplug all USB devices and see if your tether speeds increases. If so, plug them back in, one at a time, until your speeds slow, which can help you determine which device is the culprit. Replace said device with a faster model, or don't use it when tethering.
Edit: I found it! Here's my source for the Tether being limited by your slowest USB device. The quote is here: "Tether speeds slow?
Your USB speed is limited to the speed of the *slowest* peripheral you have connected. It is recommended you unplug any unnecessary/slow USB peripherals to get maximum Tether speeds." That quote is taken right from the app description itself, which can be found alongside the app here: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.koushikdutta.tether

I don't think it's a radio issue. My data speeds to the phone are REALLY high. The only time I have a problem is when the data passes on to the computer. The speed I see on my phone is never an issue regardless of how the phone is configured (to tether). The speed issue is only on the computer side. It's also not a computer issue as I've stated above.
Last I heard, VZW is planning to "fix" signal issues by making the signal icon report a higher value than what it's getting. The DB reading won't change, so they're not lying but they're not telling an honest story either. Surprise!

To clarify my response in this post, I'm not attacking anyone's response. I'm only trying to narrow everything down for anyone who may stumble upon this in the future.
Thanks for the input everyone!
I did a backup and wipe. Installed tether and ran before a restore. Same problems...
I will try a different ROM and get back to you all.
I usually get 20 mb/s down on 4bars of LTE, when tethering with wifi tether beta 3 Located Here and i got 6mb/s tethering to an iphone 4s and 2 ipod touches
I agree I have no problems pulling over 25Mbps using the WiFi Tether app that was linked above. I will say that I would recommend going to the site and go under downloads and use the 3.1 pre113 (experimental version). I have found this to be the most stable for me with the best connectivity.

Understood.
My issue is not with the tethering software though... something deeper within the system configuration is awry.
I loaded the 'AOKP - Team Kang -Build 15' ROM and tethering is blazing. I guess I'll just bounce around on ROMs until I find the cleanest build that is close to stock.
I considered loading stock and wiping out everything, but I don't want to lose what's on /sdcard/ .
From what I understand, loading the stock ROM will completely wipe.
If anyone knows a way around this, please let me know.

When you are flashing different roms you should always wipe data and cache to avoid any issues. I am using the stock rom and then I rooted with CF-Root through fastboot and have no issue with WiFi Tether. I stock with the 113 experimental as it seems to work the best for me on this set up. I would just copy you sd content and the paste it back over once flashed back to factory.
Right. I was trying to avoid copying the SD content again. I have quite a bit of data... :-/
I switched back over to my stock backup because the custom ROMs I tried all crash when I restore from Titanium. Seems as though they all won't run unless you keep the gapps that the dev includes in the ROM.
After some more consideration, it seems as though my tether is pulling data from the 3G side while the rest of the phone runs happily on 4G.
Any ideas?

More info about my problem at the above thread.
Still struggling with this issue...
I have upgraded to 4.0.4 and I noticed speed improvements that lasted the period of the previous weekend. No clue why...
Some other details that might be helpful:
Android-Wifi-Tether is slower than the stock tether with both upload and download speeds slow.
Have tried third party ROMS and experience the same issue. (Slow download, fast upload)
EasyTether Pro now works as you'd expect 4G tether to! Speeds as fast as everything else that runs from my phone.
ClockworkMod Tether is slow like Android-Wifi-Tether. Up and Down speeds < 1M
One server in Columbia, SC on speedtest.net reports speeds > 6M down and 2M up.
Does anyone have any clues as to the difference in the way these two programs operate?
I'm on a Mac and when I first connect I get an error that there is no internet available. I have to turn wifi off and back on from the computer. I leave the phone alone for this.
I've run speed tests on Windows machines with same results
I know someone with a Mifi hotspot that has the same issues I've been describing here. Even with the Columbia, SC server on speedtest.net
Verizon has yet to make contact with him.
Any ideas?
Well, this is interesting and so far NO ONE has been able to resolve my issue in regards to this.
Any time I flash over anything that is associated to AOKP or CM10 (AOKP, CM10 Nightly, tMIUI, ParaNOID etc etc) .. I have an issue where my WiFi will see everything out there in the world, but will NOT attach !!!
I have tried everything that everyone has suggested in regards to different versions of CWM (5.8.4.7, 5.8.4.7 Touch and 6.0.1.2) .. different Kernel releases from Ktoonsez and Faux123 .. Different ways for full wiping everything to dirty flashing .. and nothing.
WiFi will find everything, attempt to attach and will just end up either "Saving" to "Out of Range" (even if I'm right next to it) .. I have a LinkSys/Cisco E4200 router that is WPA2 Personal protected (I have removed that and tried) .. my work router I have no idea what it is, but it is also WPA protected .. either way .. will not connect and obtain IP.
Now, I am able to connect if I enter a static IP !!!
I know this is not a hardware issue with my phone .. if I ODIN back to stock, either the official LG1 or the leaked LH1 .. everything works perfectly .. WiFi hooks immediately, no issues.
Any ideas anyone ??
I've had flakiness.
But nothing to the extreme of what you're experiencing.
Could be you have a hardware revision that is not compatible with CM kernels for some reason.
Did you try flashing a CM ROM and then using a stock kernel with it?
I'm having exactly the same issue. So far I haven't found anything to work.

I guess you don't have any manufacturing experience.
MFG's are making changes all the time. It's supposed to be MINOR changes. Like mostly firmware.
It's not the most likely issue. But IMO, it's plausible.
Whether or not there is any sort of knowledge of hardware revisions to AT&T's SGSIII's .. they all use the same firmware/software. However, if someone wants to see what they have .. under my battery, I have the standard information .. plus:
IMEI : (blah blah blah)
S/N : (blah blah blah) ZR
1207 (barcode) REV0.4
SKU : 6013A (barcode)
Made in China
Anyone want to help out here ? Let us know what is under your battery as to REV #'s.

I'm on .. be interesting to see if there is a difference in the REV #'s .. and whether that plays a part of the issues people are having with there WiFi and raw builds.
I GIVE UP
I give up .. just tried installing the new # 2 build of tMIUI (said there were WiFi fixes) .. again, same ole SH*T .. my phone refuses to connect via WiFi unless I set it to static.
I wanted to see if there was something out there that could possibly distinguish some sort of difference (if there was any) between the REV#'s .. request if ANYONE can pull there batteries out for 2 seconds and see what there REV#'s are .. got one response and even that person didn't come back.
Guess I'll stick with stock until there is some sort of miracle break through that someone can figure this out .. since I can't.
There is an option I just noticed in my WiFi settings that let it connect to WiFi even if the signal is low. You guys having real troubles might try that setting.
I think the issue is mostly just a lower sensitivity WiFi.
Stock ROM+WiFi gives me lots of bars.
CM based ROM+WiFi doesn't get me as many bars. Sensitivity is much less, so it's more susceptible to flaky signal connections.

I had a similar issue where my phone would refuse to connect to all my routers, (2 at Home & 2 at work.) It would connect to them on stock but not on any other Rom.
I had to change the SSID's on my routers, on the new SSID's it connected perfectly..... It was a ***** to convince my IT admin at work to change the SSID's for Me.....

So what was different in the name structures ? I have right now a LinkSys E4200 which is dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz .. the names on my SSID's are "lordgeek_24" and "lordgeek_5" .. again, everything in the house can connected without issues (other Android phones, PS3, laptop and tablet). Compared to yours .. what did you have to change in the name in order for it to connect ?
I just put in a hyphen in between randomly.
All other devices were connecting just fine only my phone was not.

Interesting .. well when I get home .. will give it another whirl .. will change the SSID's to see what happens. Will report back once done.
rohanmaini .. for ****s and giggles, could you please check under your battery to see what the REV # is and let me know .. as posted before, mine reads REV0.4 .. be interesting to see if yours is the same or not.

Thank you rohanmaini for the suggestion

WELL HOLY SH*T .... I got home, before doing anything else, fired up the home computer .. changed my SSID's for both bands (2.4GHz and 5GHz) .. also reinitialized my extender for the new SSID .. would you believe, my damn phone connected to the new SSID's immediately !!!!
"lordgeek_24" changed to "LordG33K24"
"lordgeek_5" changed to "LordG33K5"
Now .. the new question is:
Why would the SSID on a router cause such a huge headache between different ROM's ????
Will I just received my Note 4. And the WiFi performance is horrible.
Hey @tampaboy good to see you here from the note 2 thread.
Bad news is locked bootloader and as of now no root.
I haven't had any issues with the WIFI yet. Is it just on your home network or are you having issues with a bunch of routers?
How so? You never had a moto x 1st gen. My note 4 keeps a great connection.

WiFi has full connection and Speed Test shows 20mbps download speed but when I download anything from Google Play it downloads at less than 500kbps
I experience similar issues with Google play via WiFi and Uverse Internet connection. I just assumed it was a playstore/Samsung issue as I'm able to download larger files from a server at better speeds.
Just really hope they unlock the boot and gain root on this puppy. Otherwise I could've just bought a iPhone if I wanted all this security locked down crap.
Sad thing is its way easier to jailbreak ios 7 or 8 than the note 4 is to root it at least on AT&T and Verizon.
maybe you just have a crappy internet speed/router, no issue here at all, or maybe just ask for a replacement
Yes the Wifi speed is absolutely terrible. There are tons of threads / other forums have posted this as well. I've tried 2.4 / 5 Ghz N, G, B all crap on various routers. The Note 3 always gets about 2/3rd better speed. At home I have a 30 Mbps connection and the speed always tops out at about 5-8 Mbps. Garbage. Note 3? 27 Mbps!!! what is going on here?
Please don't be an idiot and ask the OP if their router / internet is bad just goes to show how noob you are.

Why we gotta throw the n word around?
I can only speak for my own experience, but I have found better WiFi performance than my Galaxy S5.
Here's my wifi

Definitely not my router
you can't rely on an internet speed test...
run an iperf host on a desktop computer then run an iperf client on your phone(s). that will be a much more reliable way of testing wireless speed between your devices.

oops my bad, and yes im a noob and I don't care about it, its just my opinion anyways, you happy now mr.perfect?
I have also been experiencing slow downloads from the play store.
funny thing though, galaxy store was wanting me to update my flipboard app, so was google play..
so yesterday I started to update it via google play.. 5 min into it, it wasn't even done downloading yet.. so I canceled it and went to the galaxy store, it was downloaded, installed and ready for use in 2 minutes max.
I wonder if its not on their (googles) side somewhere..
Yeah its weird everything else downloads real quick like normal besides from Google Play Store. The Google Play Store downloads normally if I use my data, only really slow over any WiFi network.
I wonder if it's something that AT&T put in the phone so you turn on Download Booster and use your data with WiFi?
Except download booster is "hidden" on the n910a version of the note 4. You have to find the settings through nova and widgets.
Sorry to hear your still having the problem. I haven't seen any slowdown over wifi yet.
I've also noticed WiFi on this is horrible that's forever for pages to load or even time out when on apps. But downloading is fast. My s4 doesn't have any issues not sure if it's hardware issue or software but it's annoying.

No problems on my end. Works great at home and on campus.
