Hello
Does anybody use set cpu with HTC Desire ?
I would like to know wich settings work the best for you. I am trying to get the best compromise between battery life and performance.
Thanks
128MHz - 998MHz ondemand. I get more than enough life out of it. I found that if your using AOSP and not really doing much on it like just texting or calling people, capping the max to about 600MHz or 500MHz if you want, works a dream and you get even longer out of it.
Smartass is better or worse ?
I do not see any real difference between smartass and interactive in term of battery live and performance.
On demand seems to drain slightly faster than smartass.
I set my Desire to 384-1136 with interactive govenor.
I charge it once i a day each time before I go to bed anyways (sleeping time usually23.00 - 05.00), so further battery saving is not necessary to me
Edit...my normal usages are:
Syncs (no auto sync by opening):
Friendstream 4 hrs
News 4 hrs
Weather 6 Hrs
push Yahoomail
push Googlemail
push Whatsapp
push EBuddy
Active background :
Lookout antivirus
No app killer used
Phone calls : about 1-2 hrs each day
Music listening mit DSP add-on : 4 hours
Fruit ninja (man! this is addictive!) : 1 hrs
Browsing (Dolphin HD + Android market) : 2 hrs
welll....every time I charge my battery it is about 15-25% left till out of juice...if I use my phone more than those, I have to charge it earlier (more than once a day)
245 - 985 MHz Conservative give mere 36 hours power and running smooth.

For me the battery has never lasted more than a day... Even on my un-rooted one...
BTW: Battery live depends on many things
1. Your ROM and kernel
2. Your runnning application, syncs, etc.
3. your usage and settings such as cpu freq, display brightnes, airplane mode, etc.
4. Received signal quality.
5. The condition of the battery...is it top fit for example?
It is difficult to measure the battery live.
@atuladhikari : battery live has nothing to do with rooting..

I don't like using any of the other governors since I get lag. I hate lag. OnDemand gets rid of the lag for me. I've had it before where I was using smartass and it took ~30 seconds for my screen to turn back on from idle. I wasn't too impressed.
setcpu
thanks meaple for your advice
i think that set cpu is fine on "ondemand" for some roms and for others roms no
set cpu is included on oxygen settings and running well
Cool, I need to download Setcpu
128-998 ondemand
screen off 128-384 ondemand
in call 128-384 ondemand
I get very good battery and performance with theses settings.
Which app do you guys recommend? Tried overclock widget doesn't seem to be working.
Am on Insertcoin stock GB rom.

DidI do that?....I did.... LOL.
I used to use set cpu
set a profile like
Smartass
on charge - 1113mhz
80% - 100% - 998mhz
59% - 79% - 600mhz
35% - 58% - 500mhz
Screen Off - 300mhz
Priority was higher for lower battery %
BUT I stopped using it because of the little bugs, like when it changes to 384mhz for no reason after unlocking screen
It also affects the standard script with the rom you install, so you can never uninstall it properlu, you have to do a full wipe install and never install it, until I did that my phone was always a little laggy
I prefer my phone without it Each to their own
@shankly1985 - you didn't noticed wakeup lag with 128 MHz?
I must use 245 - x MHz to properly and fast unlock my phone.
Best Setcpu config for Desire is - no Setcpu at all.

I couldn't agree more with you. Experienced all of the above so no go.
245-1033mHZ with smartass give me two day out of my desire loaded with insercoin 1.0.9 with v06 kernel !
I am mostly sending Text message and some calls.

Not at all mate, I get zero lag on my phone. when I check the info on the setcpu app and time in state 128 is at 85% so my phone is using very little cpu.

Can somebody tell me how to underclock with SetCPU? I'm using DC 3.5 with Battery Saver profile, Advanced Task Killer and Juice Defender but my battery is still abysmal (It's actually worse with DC and battery saver than it was on stock w/o root. I turned it on at 10:30, it's now 2:30 and my battery is at 75% even though I haven't done anything but respond to 1 text and take 2 pics) so someone told me to underclock. But I have no idea how to do it.
Thanks!
You have setcpu but don't know how to underclock? Running the setcpu app, hit menu button, click set device. Click yes and allow superuser to allow. All you do is move the top slider "max setting" to the left.

I was using Kings Kernel #6
At that point just d/l the overclock widget on the market, its a great add with a Kernel capable.

So now that I have read the full question, I'll answer again...
(1) - STOP using task killers, they only hurt you!!!
(2) - Download one of Kings Kernel I prefer #6, but some swear by #5
(3) - Wipe your Battery Stats in Recovery
(4) - Update Your Radio (can't tell you which but search for your ROM and people with confirmed Radio's helping, they are different for everyone.)
(5) - Go to the Market and Download "Overclock Widget" (I had success with underclocking around 650, still very responsive and not killing battery at 998)
Hope this helps, its more of just trying stuff out...
^I can't find 5 or 6. Only 1, 3 and 8. And how do you set it to 650? Sorry I'm a noob.
In SetCpu hit info, do long test. Go back to main, hit menu and disable perflock. Slide the max bar wherever you want to underclock it. If you're trying to save battery (no other reason to underclock) go to profiles and enable profiles to whatever you want. Some that i using are
- Temp >50 degrees C
Priority 100
499 max cpu 245 min (ondemand)
- Screen Off
Priority 100
245 max 245 min (ondemand)
You can also set a profile to set the cpu to underclock when the batter drops to certain rates so it will last longer (i underclock to 460 mhz at 25% so i can use it without rushing to a charger)
Im averaging about 2 and a half to three hours of use per 10% of battery (heavy use, not including standby). Send me a PM and i can give you my settings and the ROM im using.

Recently i've ventured into kernel threads wondering how i can get better battery life on my G2. I consider myself pretty well versed in roms but Kernels are a whole new animal for me.
I have read so many threads im becoming dizzy. If i have to flash a kernel for better battery, which one? I dont have demands for a faster phone. Most of the threads about kernels i have read are all about getting a faster clock. Im fine with the speed of my G2. I just want better battery.
Can some one provide me with some literature on the subject, point me in the right direction, or even better, answer some questions for a noob in this particular subject??
What Kernel to use?
Can i flash over CM 6.1 Stable?
Do i need to wipe before flash?
Any assistance will surely allow me to sleep better at night.
Thank you in advance.
I can tell you im running virtuous 7.2 i find pershoots kernel the best for battery.

If you want great battery life, don't use a sense rom. They're battery hogs as it is. Stay on CM 6.1 and flash pershoots latest kernel. Get setcpu and set a profile to 245/245 when the screen is off.
With these settings I get awesome battery life and I'm overclocked to 1497.

Oh ya i learned through trial and error to stay away from sense roms.
Can i ask you why you overclock? I dont find myself in any moments where i think the phone should be going faster.
I can flash pershoots over cm with no problems?
Can i get a link?
thanks for the response.
Well i lpike sense but only when its ocd sense too sluggish on stock g2 speeds. Also even with ocing and runing sense my bat last just about all day. It sometimes needs a shot a juice if im useing gps or playing a lot of games but thats it.

Decent battery life on my G2.
I'm running htc sence on mine with the pershoot kernal and cpu tuner.I have tweaked profiles and my battery life is better than b4.Example, i took it off the charger(ac) yesterday morning @ about 9:20am & today Thur, i checked the [email protected] 11:50am and my battery is only @ 40%.(1 day,3hrs & 31min's later)not bad. That's WITH moderate use.

So whats CPU Tuner? Do you have some suggestions for how to tweak the profile? Can i get a link to the pershoots thread? Is this the right thread? --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847672
Do I have to wipe before flashing and then reinstall cm over it?
When I went into SetCPU, it always kinda confused me. That could be why I was never interested in overclocking.
I realize I have a lot of questions. Im just a careful and thorough person.
Simple.
@dangabob13...Don't worry about all the questions i'd want to b super carefull as well.First, cpu tuner is a free app in the market much like set cpu except u get more options as far as customizing your profiles.Second you can find the pershoot kernel right with in rom manager.Just go to the download rom section & its the 3rd one down.I didn't wipe and i haven't had any problems. The reason i switched to the pershoot kernel was because i was having problems waking up the screen with HTC sense and the kernel it came with. This fixed the issue for me.No need to b confused it's actually pretty simple. My profiles for cpu tuner are as follows:
Under the "Current" tab: i have the governor set to "conservative" i have the cpu o.c to 1094 MHZ.No need to go crazy over clocking i find this to b fast enough for now. The rest of my profiles:under the "profiles"tab,
Performance:Ondemand-Max:1094 Ghz,Min:768Mhz.
Good:Conservative-Max:1094Ghz,Min:768Mhz.
Normal:Conservative-Max:1094Ghz,Min:768Mhz.
Power save:Conservative-Max:1094mhz,Min:768Mhz.
Screen off:Conservative-Max:768Mhz,Min:768Mhz.
Extreme Power save:Conservative-Max:768Mhz,Min:768Mhz.
Keep in mind i also have wifi, blutooth, sync all disabled as well.I'm not saying this is guaranteed to work for you, I'm simply stating what works for me. Good luck i hope this helps.
Quick question....doesn't CM6.1 Stable have the pershoot kernel already? Also does the Pershoot kernel the one that goes to 1.8Mhz?
Not that I'm interested in going that high, but just wondering.
I OC for games mainly, but also to watch tv and movies, the extra umph really helps. My setup on SetCPU are:
Temp>40.2*C 368 / 245 Powersave Priority 100
Screen Off 245 / 245 Powersave Priority 90
Charging/full 1497 / 245 Interactive Priority 85
Battery<10% 268 / 245 Conservative Priority 80
Battery<30% 806 / 245 Conservative Priority 70
Hope this helps.

I dont have a conservative option under the Governor dropdown. is that important. Otherwise i duplicated your settings. Boasting 27 hours of up time and 40% left is bound to make me jealous ill test it out. Thanks again.
That's strange is your cpu tuner app up to date? I also wanted to mention that my screen brightness is set to 20%,heptic feed back is turned off and so is vibration. Along with a few other battery saving options you should see a difference in battery life.Obviously results will vary.

Ha its so funny. I have the same exact settings. i took a look around and turned off all that stuff. I keep my GPS on because it only uses battery when its being used. But i turn off wireless locations so that its not always trying to centralize my location.
Trying to find out to anyone using or not using MIUI which kernel is the best for the G2, i am also trying to find out what SetCPU profiles work best with that kernel from personal experience.
Curious myself.
*bump*
I'm on the latest Pershoot and battery and performance is some much better than stock kernel. In fact, battery life is possibly better than Sense! I OC'd to 825-1497 MHz screen on and 245-368 with the screen off. I get the occasional (once in the few days I've been running the ROM) refusal to wake up, but I heard that's a bug in CM (which MIUI is based off) to do with OCing + screen on/off animations. I did, however, get tons of freezes and reboots when my maximum frequency was set at 1516MHz, which seems to be above the threshold my phone can take.
Anyway, that's my experiences, YMMV!
Hope I helped

Which version of MIUI are your running?
I'm currently running Carpes' Miui Version, "Light Gets Lighter"
The kernel I use is Eugenes' Streamline5 Kernel which can be found here Streamline5
He has a MIUI version but for some reason doesn't run well so just download the Original.
Here is the download link if you have trouble finding it > kernel download <
As for Setcpu settings
Max/Min
Main:
1000/800, smartass
Profiles:
Screen Off: 384/245, smartass
I only find the need for a screen off profile because I like my phone kept on low hz and it's pretty much the same as battery charging profiles if you have the same hz
Its also recommended not to underclock lower then 245 as it will cause a lock up or freeze being unable to wake up due to slow processing speed
1 Day, 13 Min, 56 Seconds = 21% Battery Left
Total about 1 hour browsing internet, maybe 20min total of youtube videos and moderate texting

Happy to hear and yes, Streamline5 is awesome!
If Both our reviews still don't help then maybe this will. Another great thing about Streamline5 is that it will still run smooth even if you leave it clocked at just 800 alone and maybe squeeze a little more juice out .
Reason I scale it to 1000 is I like the little speed boost it gives me
Yes, got Tiamat kernel runing in my MIUI, and looks like everything is working fine, even FM-radio...
has all the necessary governors, and goes up to 2ghz

I can't get past the bootanimation after flashing streamline5 on CarpeNoctem"s miui. any help would be appreciated.
also, can I manually change the min mhz up to 245?
Currently I am using this RomHere
(I was forced to because when I flashed an update to the Superuser app, it worked fine, but when I turned it off for the night, the phone wouldn't get past the 'HTC' startup screen, and trying to factory reset/ flash an RUU didn't work)
When I was using stock Froyo, the battery life was moderate. It *normally* used to go down around 1% every 2 hours or so in idle. Since I've flashed this new rom, it seems to go down 1% every 30 minutes instead, Even with the screen off and the phone fully off, the battery drains horribly quickly.
Any solutions?
That is the rome, dude. Sense2.1+3.0 drains more battery than stock froyo. That's the price. And 2%/h is not bad for sense roms.

No, imho it's not.
Sense and the inherent runnig apps/widgets.
But with setcpu and a screen off profile (245 min 245 max @ondemand governor) you can really improve your battery standby power. You can download this paid app here for free, because you are an xda user:

Out of interest, does it damage the phone if it's underclocked? I'm just worried that I'll burn the CPU out f it is underclocked and clocked back to stock if I frequently turn the screen for mundane tasks like checking the time.
I recently flashed to that ROM too - and I agree, battery power seems to be draining slightly more quickly than what it was originally (it could be because I'm playing around with settings and exploring new features). But probably not so much more that I'd be worried... left it charging overnight, and seems like I will be able to get a full day of normal use out of it (currently ~65% left and ~3hrs till i get back home).
Maybe double check your sync settings? possibly they've reverted back to sync-ing more often?
Otherwise, I guess you can go for a lighter ROM (i believe cyanogenmod will use less battery since it doesn't have Sense UI).
Actually, the battery does go down faster on InsertCoin 1.0.8 if you use all the Sense 3.0 goodies for example the weather lock screens, weather widgets, and the windmill-thing live wallpaper, which also changes its apperance with the weather.
Those literally suck the battery out, 40% only in 3-4 hours.
I have tried to deactivate those and the battery live is back to normal.
...the only problem is...those goodies will make your Desire super duper beautiful...it was for me a very hard choice to turn those off

Dunno about that but nothing bad has happened by me and I have been using setcpu for more than 8 months.
I use set cpu to speed up my Desire a bit, I set it to 128 - 1136 with smartass governor. (carefull by setting higher frequencies)
tips for battery saving:
- turn off sense sync and any unwanted syncs
- reduce sync intervals.
- turn off automatic brightness control, and set it as low as possible but keeping it still visible.
- use smartass or interactive govenor on setcpu.
- turn the internet connection off if you are on low signal strength.

Yeah, the more animation, the more battery use. I think the only one I use now is the weather widget... though I actually prefer the old sense 'simple' animation, not a fan of the sense 3.0 videos... got to find a way to revert to the old one! (using clock lock screen.... prob chews up bit more battery than plain wallpaper, but oh so pretty!)
GUIDE TO EXTEND YOUR BATTERY LIFE UP TO THE LIMIT
20% Enough For A Day!It is one of the best option if you left home with less juice, and are going to be in a trouble!
Yesterday, when I was on a trip with my friends, I forgot to charge my battery, and guess what: just 17% of juice left on my device at early 6 AM! So, I used this simple method, which I am going to explain down there, then while returning home at 9:30, 6% of juice was available!
The thins that I did was, listened to music for more than 10 hours (via earphones), Took photos for more than 15 mins (altogether), Surfed 3G for about 7-10 mins (on way back to home! ), and some phone calls!

well for your kind information all the governers (if have custom kernel) take phone to deepsleep while screen off. And as per your thread title i don`t think the guide is that effective becoz this governer thingy is known by almost every one here. Not trying to flame but just wanted to say that don`t open new threads for such known things.
stock kernel have 2 governor
bcm21553 and performance
this trik can be apply when we use custom kernel
i know about this long time ago
