[REQ] Change Stretched "3G" Icon to Normal - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I'm not sure if this annoys anyone else, but I really hate the stretched out 3G icon that Verizon put into their ROMs to replace the EvDO label. Is there any way to replace this with the standard size 3G label that shows when connected to UMTS networks or just go back to the old EvDO icon?

if you are talking about these two icons, it's very easy to make a MM theme or .zip to change this. I actually love the bigger 3g icon.

Upload the SystemUI.apk from your rom and Ill change it for you... I Personally like the MIUI 3g Icon!!!

That's the one! It just looks half-assed to me, especially when they have it right in other non-HTC Android devices.

Here ya go. Thanks in advance!
I don't mind the MIUI ones, but I prefer the HTC...
Edit: I unzipped the file to check out the contents, and I have a few more favours if they're doable. I would like it to show the 3G+ icon when on Rev. A, 3G for regular EvDO, and the other ones left as is. Also, would it be possible to use the six bar signal icons instead of the ones with four?

I am in the RMK GB ROM with the latest patch... I'll look up the OUT kitchen. Thanks!

So UOT has been down every time I've tried to work on it, and I can't seem to find the right XML file in which to change which icon gets referenced by Rev. A... Can anyone help?

That is the 3G LTE icon, somehow they got switched. Maybe this is what VZW wants you to see now.

Yeah, I discovered that in the PNG file name, but that makes no sense at all since LTE isn't 3G, and this device isn't even capable of LTE. Ugg. Verizon kills me sometimes. I actually got this sorted last night in UOT (I think), but then I couldn't find my ZIP for pickup so I never got to see if it worked.
I would love to just use MIUI but it appears that I lose Visual Voicemail with it.

[Q] Themed Signal Bars????

Does Any one know if its possible to change the signal bars from 6 to 4 like in the other galaxy s models.....i think the 4 bars looks way better than 6....thank you.
Yes its possible. The phone reports more than those four steps so you can just have it show four bars full for 5 and 6 too, or any other combo you'd like. The images for them are in the framework-res.apk I believe. Not sure anyone wil do that for you until official froyo though...try it yourself if your adventurous.

The Elegant Steel port that I did for 2.1 has only 4 signal bars. When 2.2 is officially released I will port it to that as well.

Certainly, inside of any theme .zip is a file called framework-res.apk. You can rename the .apk to .zip and open it in any compression tool, such as 7zip or WinRAR. If you would like, you can decompress and unpack this to a folder for ease of use. There are tons of guides on XDA that will help you with this, I would suggest taking a look at some of the guides made by Dreamsforgotten as they are incredibly detailed, and you can find links to them by looking at the sticky wiki thread. Once you get inside of the framework-res.apk, you will see a folder called "res" and inside of that, another folder called "drawable-hdpi". This is the heart of the framework, and the majority of the images that you see on your phone are contained within. The status bar signal icons are named something like "stat_sys_signal..." etc. Just open em up and edit them to your liking, or grab some images from somewhere else to replace them. Hope this helps, feel free to pm me if you need any more help!

Yup no problem. There are multiple different sets of signal bars, on for roaming, 1x etc. Your best bet would be to replace them all, unless you can discern which is which. Look for this in the name "_r_", and if they have this then those are for roaming icons. All others should just be the normal signal.

Nice, welcome to the world of theming Just an FYI, you may have to change some things again when the official froyo release comes out, there is quite a difference between all three of the leaks, leading me to believe the OTA will be different as well. Glad it worked for you, feel free to ask away someone around here will be happy to help!

The actual images for the signals start with zz_ if I remember right.

The clock color is controlled by services.jar. You need to edit smili. some of fonts are controlled by the xml files in the colors folder

You need to make your own images per pull the ones you like from the different themes. Replace the images in the framework

[Q] i want 4 signal bars like the htc incredible for my evo

I have searched everywhere trying to find a way to change the signal bars. I want either the four bars like the dinc or the five bars that show up before they chnge to six. I tried metamorph but it wasn't working right for me. i just really hate the six bar look. I'm currently on mikfroyo 4.3 and really like everything about the rom and only want to change the signal bars everything else is perfect.
Try CM7? I am running it and I have a 4 bar signal icon...

You'll have to edit some PNGs in your framework. Although its not really 4 bars, it will just appear that way.
You can find the zip of your rom that you flashed, mikfroyo. Open it with WinRAR, or something similiar. Look in /system/framework/ for com.htc.resources.apk. Extract that to somewhere you will remember. Then open up that framework file with the same program you used above and look for drawable-hdpi. Look for the cmda radio signal pngs and swap in the ones you want. If you want to only use 4, then you can use the same signal for a few. Then put that drawable-hdpi folder back in the /system/framework directory from your ..resources.apk. This will overwrite the old one. Then push it with ADB. If you're not familiar there are a bunch of guides on xda here.
I have seen a couple themes (one of which I made a while back) for sense using the gingerbread status bar icons and those themes usually do the edit mentioned above to make it appear as 4 bars even though it is reporting more. I can easily whip this up for you if you need help, I just need to know exactly which ROM you are using.
Thanks for the replies. I have tried cm7 and I just can't get used to the stock android look. I just really like sense and the mikfroyo roms.
I am on mikfoyo v4.30. It would be awesome if you could help me out with that. I want to learn how to do the editing but I need to find a way to do it with my macbook.
How many does it have now and what color are they?
it has six bars and they are green
Im not running that ROM so I cant test the colors or look of it compared to the rest of the ROM but here is my best shot at it. Just flash that zip from the recovery screen and always make a nandroid backup first.

Man I really appreciate that brandnek that looks a 100% better than the 6 bars. It looks great it's exactly what i was wanting

[Q] How do I change my "3G" Icon?

Ok, so, I'm pretty sure its not the same on every ROM, but I just simply want to be able to change the "3G" icon on the Desire Z roms or Skyraider(sense)
On the Incredible S rom, the icon would be "EvDo" and, I know it sounds stupid, but I really really prefer that over just saying plain ole 3G, how do I go about changing that on other ROMs?

go into the com.htc.resources.apk located in system/app/framework. The icons are located in drawable-hdpi or drawable-hdpiv4 depending on which rom you are on.
Use this thread as a guideline. Worked for me.

No, it comes only on the China Telecom 2.3.4 ROM. Any VZW-based ROMs like RMK or Virtuous will have the silly stretched 3G icon.
is there any way to get it otherwise?

EVDO = 3G
and I could literally just change out status bar pictures with the ones u want, but I don't know how to make them work as they should. they will still work just not the correct way. there are too many images for what we have.
Here's a few pics of me at full icons my -dBm is -72 and when the bar went down one.
I have it set up so the 1x is at full status always, and the 3g is basically ur new bars, they show exactly how they would show as normal bars but now its just changing the littler 3g icons bars. It's all I can do until someone figure out how to use their edits.
this is something I can do easily for any ROM, I can also change it to the 1x bars that change instead of the 3g if preferred.

so you could be in an area with no 3G coverage and barely 1x but it will still show full 1x bars?

that's the thing, if you look at my pic, 3g isnt on, wifi is. so with 3g off, itll show like that. basically this just changes the bars from the regular ones to little ones that were wanted. the bars work exactly as they would normally. but it's either the 3g icons are all full or the 1x icons are all full you choose, it's the best I could do that is accurate.

How to remove H+ icon

Hello everybody,
I started this thread because I'm having a not very important but annoying problem,I'm sure more people face this.
Case:
XWKK5 Kitchen Slimrom+Jkay 14.1
Theming with UOT-kitchen goes fine,BUT in the statusbar the H+ icon remains original.
I'm sure many devs and themers know how to fix this for me and many others!
Mate that's just picky...

Hi,
I have the same results on my I9100, but, it works perfectly on my Nexus S.
Hi,
You're right my friend, got the same problem with my [MODS)..... How to replace easily the H+ icon please...? Good question...
It's not exactly rocket science, have you looked inside the UOT kitchen file to make sure they new icons are there?

It doesnt use "H" icons for "H+", they are called by two differnt names:
"stat_sys_data_connected_h.png"
"stat_sys_data_connected_h_plus.png"
You need to look inside and see if there are any "H+" icons inside your UOT zip, im guessing UOT doesnt have them to put in your zip so it will use the default."H+"
If they arent included you can copy the "H" icons outside and rename to include "_plus" like above then put them into your zip and flash.
But this will show a H instead of H+.
Edit: After looking at the kalagas icon set on UOT there is no H+ icons, so if the other icon sets are the same you will never replace your original H+ icons unless they update the kitchen to include them.
The workaround is to manually edit them yourself, either by following the above or using a image editor to add the "+" symbol to thew icon.
