I know there is probably threads on this already, so if you can point me in the right direction that would be nice. I'm trying to root my Dell Streak 5 2.2 Froyo using superoneclick 1.7; Ive downloaded it already, but it gets stuck on waiting for device. For some reason the program is not finding my Dell Streak device, I have debugging on, and Ive tried starting up my phone while it's waiting for device, but it never finds it. Seems like im missing a driver or something, if so where do I get it because its not on dell.com.
find and use z4root, worked for my streak
Ive downloaded it, I have Astro, now how do I allow 3rd party apps to be installed on my Dell Streak? Because its blocking me from downloading it, I do not have the Unknown Sources setting where you can allow third party apps, from what im reading you already have to be rooted?
using android sideload wonder machine, works wonders to side load apps.
You should be able to install 3rd party apps with the 'Unknown sources' option checked even without root.
_EDIT_ Are you saying you dont have the option to allow unknown sources?

Hi guys I rooted my desire using the live cd method, powered up my phone before installing a2sd and I could see all of my download history on the market with access to all apps. After this I booted into recovery using step2 on the live cd and installed A2SD. When I turned the phone on again all of the download history was gone and I can't see apps like Google Earth, National Rail etc.
I thought I did something wrong so I wiped the device and installed the rooted rom update again with a2sd at the same time. The problem still exists and nothing has changed.
Could you please help me because this is very annoying and I cant set up my phone the I want until this is resolved.
Very strange... Use Market enabler > http://market-enabler.googlecode.com/files/MarketEnabler_latest.html
install, apply new settings and reboot, problem solved
Thanks for the suggestion but the market enabler doesn't solve it, I tried it.
Another strange thing that I found is I have an .apk of CoPilot which I was using before rooting and when I tried installing it now it gives me an error "Application not installed".
I still haven't solved this problem and its really bugging me.
I un-rooted my phone and used a different google account with no luck. I still don't see some applications in the market.
Just to let you know I am in the UK using a generic sim free desire on 3 network. Could you please, please, please help me out. I am running out of options and I thought unrooting would fix it.
Weird issue you are describing. As far as I know it depends on the fingerprint of the build.prop in the ROM (and if Google added it to the white list(?)) or not.
Many people are using the rooted ROM (all the same build.prop) and they can access protected apps just fine. So probably the problem lies elsewhere.
I have a similar problem, before I rooted my device I could see all apps I bought in my g1 days. After I rooted first of all none showed up, after a day or so only a few showed up... rebooted a few more times (only ever flashed once using Windows with apps2sd) now I have a few I had before show up not all just a few and thats how its been since. weird. I had half results :/

Same problem here with one single application.
Had SlideIT paid version installed on stock firmware.
Once i rooted it gave me the message "application not installed" once i tried to install it.
Funny enough the SlideIT lite version is still able to install fine.
Definitely want it to work again, so i hope someone knows how to fix it
I tried a couple of different ROMs today and had this same problem, clicking My Downloads would just show a blank screen, and there was no "Top Paid Apps" tab. I tried unrooting, rerooting, nothing fixed it, until I found this;
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android+Market/thread?tid=1ea082d443f3d16c&hl=en
Pushing that xml file (note the spelling mistake before you do it) fixed it all back up, no idea what caused it to get all messed up and why it wasn't fixed by wiping and reflashing.

I tried to push the file via adb shell in windows and got permission denied. Am I doing it right or do I need to root the phone again to be able to push that file because I have reverted back to the generic stock rom?
Mine was rooted when I pushed it, try re-rooting it and pushing it again I guess.
I finally got around to re-rooting it and tried your solution with pushing that file but no change to my market
Just to be clear I can see the Top Paid apps tab, but I cant access copy protected apps like Google Earth.
I recently purchased the white SE Xperia X10a at an AT&T store. I've been looking everywhere on the internet on how to install 2.1 and SWYPE. I have installed SEUS and Pc Companion for upgrading to 2.1. It still says that my phone is up to date (its running 1.6). I've tried uninstalling SUES and PC Companion and re-installing it. Still didn't work. I want to at least get SWYPE. My phone doesn't have an option to "allow unknown sources" because it's locked down. I've tried the Sideload Wonder Machine and it won't recognize my phone even though I have drivers installed. Help please! I've tried everything!
have you found help?? I'm in the same boat man!! About to return!
i dont think it can be updated that yet at&t hasnt released it.
u have to de brand or load a custom rom of 2.1
as far as sideload wm i got it to work after playing with it for a while
i dont remember what i did as im pretty good at trying every possible option until something works. and once again i did that haha
two things i know i did for sure.
get the beta version of SWM place it in the root of your computer drive.
try every way to install drivers.
one way i found before was by downloading something for android from pdanet
and make sure you have installed android sdk
reboot computer.
hopefully you can play around with those options till it works
Install android sdk and make sure it works. Find jerpeleas flash tool and pick a shipped global rom. Flash, root, install swype. Ill post links here after class.

okay i my mother in law got this x10a from att and its running 1.6 i got it rooted but i cant install xrecovery because it wont let me install apk if its not from the market place. so is there any way i can flash a 2.1 rom then i should be able to allow apk files right????
p.s. im not use to this my vibrant was much easier.
So heres the scenario:
I have an HTC Desire with Froyo loaded. I had rooted it with unrevoked 3.21 and everything was going fine until an OTA update (apparently an update for marketplace) came out. Yes, I made a stupid error and updated using the OTA and lost the root.
Now I did a factory reset and tried rooting it again with unrevoked 3.22. And surprise surprise! It got rooted again!!
Now the problem here is that, I am trying to re-install some paid and some free applications that were on my phone earlier and Marketplace refuses to even show up those apps in search results...!! They are not present my phone because of the factory reset. Now when I search for the same app in Appbrain it throws up the search result and when I click on it, it behaves as if the app is installed in my system and shows me options like "Open - Uninstall - etc."
Is there some cache in my system that makes it believe that these apps are still there somewhere? I deleted everything from my SD Card and I tried clearing the marketplace cache. I also cleared the Dalvik Cache (dont know if its in any way related to the marketplace, but I still did it)
So what is it thats going wrong? Why arent these apps showing up? Any help would be appreciated. I am quite disillusioned with Android marketplace.
try to install market access to try another country instead. after installing market access force stop market and clear cache.
Tried that, but it didnt work.
After searching the internet about this problem I realised that every ROM has a fingerprint that needs to be registered with Google. If this is not registered with Google, then users cannot find apps that are Copy Protected in the market.
I had recently received an OTA (about 2 weeks ago). So I am assuming that either HTC has not bothered to register this fingerprint with google or google has not updated their database. Either way the situation is pretty deplorable.
The only workaround that I found on the internet is to edit the build.prop file in the Android system (of course you need root access for this). I am planning of trying to do this so that I can fool the market into believing that I am using an older ROM version which is registered with them.
Well, just tried the build.prop method. Successfully spoofed the marketplace.
Shame on Google for having such restrictions. If I didnt have root access and I didnt know about this spoofing method, then I would just have to wait endlessly until either HTC or Google moved their rearside and get things working.
Really disappointed with Android.
So, I just got am SGH-T747 S3 yesterday, and was poking around in all the new settings, when I came across "Software Update". I wasn't sure if this meant firmware or what, but I went ahead and let it download what turned out to be 4.3 (whereas I was on 4.1.2 or thereabouts).
Then I tried to root it today, with a couple of methods but most recently CF-Autoroot. I haven't flashed any ROMs or done anything else beyond this yet, I just wanted my Ad Blocker. And then I start getting this business about "SuperSU has stopped", and the "An application attempted to access system" nonsense. So of course I Googled it, and came across a number of different articles/posts about this problem, including some on XDA, none of which seem to offer any solutions.
I'm not really sure at this point how or even if this problem can be fixed or not. I've read that you can't downgrade to a lesser ROM version (?). Also, I'm not sure if flashing CyanogenMod (which is what I eventually want to do) would solve the problem, and I'm not about to try it for fear of what other surprises I might encounter.
But if for some reason I can't have root, I'd at least like to be rid of this incessant notification that the program has been blocked. TIA.
Well, if you want adblock, there is a VPN called Spotflux that doesn't slow your speeds down, has adblock, and is free.
About the root issue....I wouldn't know as my i747 is in a coma of the QHSUSB - DLOAD disease.
You might wanna try the cyanogenmod installer in google play to see if your device is supported ( proceed with caution)

Thanks, that is an interesting alternative in the interim. As with everything ad-related, it doesn't work everywhere (I guess they are pulling ads from custom servers or whatever), but it does seem to work with some programs. I've had the same issue with AdBlocker too.

if i remember correctly, in settings>security you can disable the notification of supersu being blocked and now you can access root. happened to me when i first updated
I used cf autoroot and then installed supersu from the play store. When I opened supersu it asked me if I wanted to disable knox and I pressed yes. Then I installed titanium backup and froze knox.

Hi
I was on Android 12 and signed in to the beta program 10 days ago.
I've noticed that APKs that were fine on Android 12 are not working anymore on Android 13 Beta.
APKs are crashing at opening.
I thought that may have been an issue related to the beta version of Android but couple of days ago Android 13 stable rolled out (I've signed out from the beta) but those apps are still not working.
I've found older APKs for a couple of apps and one works and one not.
How can I solve this without a factory reset?
Thank you in advance
What are the apps that are crashing? What does a logcat show when the app crashes?
Google introduced restrictions in A13 for side loaded apps. No longer can they use accessibility apis nor can they access notifications etc. Just speculation but if the apps you are using are old they may be crashing because of these changes.

You can bypass those restrictions by going to the app info page of the app and clicking on the 3 dot menu in top right corner.

Wasn't aware of this, thanks!
I don't have any issues with manually installed apks...
Hi, i have the same Problem with every sideloaded App.
There are no 3 dots in the right Corner.
I don't know exactly how to bypass Them
Waiting till the weekend to update, but what APKs are giving the error?

Do those apps need Accessibility and/or Notification Access permissions? If not, then I don't think the 3 dot menu needs to be there as it is only for those specific permissions (or whatever other permissions Google might add to the list in the future).
For example, I have Adaway installed but it doesn't have the 3 dot menu because it doesn't need either of those permissions. The same for App Manager.
I am really confused with this new "session-based install" security.
What are "session-based install" and "non-session-based install"
Play store app install --------- surly "session-based install" 100%.
3rd-party store install --------- is said also to be "session-based install".
Firefox download an apk --------- is said to be "non-session-based install",
But how the firefox different from a 3rd-party store????? a system white list something?
safetynet, selinux, forcing many settings, anti-rollback, non-store app restrictions.........
I enjoyed so much that google throws sht tons of troubles to billions of advanced users, to fight an enemy that may not even exist.
(how many people have their phone bootloader secretly unlocked remotely by a hacker and installed root malware, unknowingly?)
Gives a warning is good eg. bootloader locked warning is great IMO. But force the hands and keep finding ways to screw the advanced users as hard as they can, to get the "everything is under my control" status is the wrong path.
I read the news that malware devs have already found a way to bypass this restriction.
In the end, like many others, It achieved nothing, except giving trouble to advanced users and devs.
A global bypass must be also on the way, especially from China. Millions like 90% of APPs are not store-based in China since the google ban, and people are used to download apk from every companies' websites as we do on Windows PC.

3 APKs from the company I'm working for (not on PlayStore) 2 sideloaded apps, and a LADB signed sideloaded APK
For example you cut and CC cleaner keeps crashing all the time.
Same here. Almost every app not from Play Store keeps closing right on tap to start them.
Tried to sideload them per USB with full rights. Same.
My company apps that didn't come from the play store are opening without a problem
Thats Vers Strange, indeed.
Every sideloaded App, modded or Not does Not work
Thought it was me...this is bs!
What's the next step...start posting logs I assume?
It's not EVERY sideload for me but about 1 in 3 I'd say.
btw...I got an 'install failed' trying to install/flash the viper4android mod not realizing how old it was...now I'm seeing lotsa audio/sound related crap in logcat reader. If I AM 'currupt' somehow, will just a rom re-flash fix a magisk issue or do I need a full wipe?
Tia for any guidance offered!

Me too but looks like is some security thing from Android 13. I really hope that somebody finds a workaround soon or I'll have to switch back to 12

12 won't work right on the 13 bootloader, and you can't downgrade the bootloader.
When I initially tested flashing only the 13 bootloader on my Pixel 6 Pro, while still running Android 12, it booted fine, I unlocked the phone, and all looked normal. But I didn't launch apps, especially Chrome, YouTube, and plenty of other things. If I had, I would have noticed problems that others have had since then. It was since found that certain/many kinds of apps will not work right running on Android 12 when you have the 13 bootloader installed.
I know this above is not what this thread is discussing, but since you mentioned it, I just wanted to point out that if you're on any Pixel 6/Pro/a with Android 13's bootloader flashed, you won't be able to use stock Android 12 on it. You'll be able to flash everything but the bootloader, boot it up, and unlock it, but before long you would discover problems that you wouldn't be able to work around and would effectively make your phone unuseable for many things that we take for granted.
By the way, hopefully you have the 13 bootloader flashed to both slots. Having the 13 bootloader on only one slot is a little dangerous.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot --slot all flash bootloader bootloader.img
