Hi guys I rooted my desire using the live cd method, powered up my phone before installing a2sd and I could see all of my download history on the market with access to all apps. After this I booted into recovery using step2 on the live cd and installed A2SD. When I turned the phone on again all of the download history was gone and I can't see apps like Google Earth, National Rail etc.
I thought I did something wrong so I wiped the device and installed the rooted rom update again with a2sd at the same time. The problem still exists and nothing has changed.
Could you please help me because this is very annoying and I cant set up my phone the I want until this is resolved.
Very strange... Use Market enabler > http://market-enabler.googlecode.com/files/MarketEnabler_latest.html
install, apply new settings and reboot, problem solved
Thanks for the suggestion but the market enabler doesn't solve it, I tried it.
Another strange thing that I found is I have an .apk of CoPilot which I was using before rooting and when I tried installing it now it gives me an error "Application not installed".
I still haven't solved this problem and its really bugging me.
I un-rooted my phone and used a different google account with no luck. I still don't see some applications in the market.
Just to let you know I am in the UK using a generic sim free desire on 3 network. Could you please, please, please help me out. I am running out of options and I thought unrooting would fix it.
Weird issue you are describing. As far as I know it depends on the fingerprint of the build.prop in the ROM (and if Google added it to the white list(?)) or not.
Many people are using the rooted ROM (all the same build.prop) and they can access protected apps just fine. So probably the problem lies elsewhere.
I have a similar problem, before I rooted my device I could see all apps I bought in my g1 days. After I rooted first of all none showed up, after a day or so only a few showed up... rebooted a few more times (only ever flashed once using Windows with apps2sd) now I have a few I had before show up not all just a few and thats how its been since. weird. I had half results :/

Same problem here with one single application.
Had SlideIT paid version installed on stock firmware.
Once i rooted it gave me the message "application not installed" once i tried to install it.
Funny enough the SlideIT lite version is still able to install fine.
Definitely want it to work again, so i hope someone knows how to fix it
I tried a couple of different ROMs today and had this same problem, clicking My Downloads would just show a blank screen, and there was no "Top Paid Apps" tab. I tried unrooting, rerooting, nothing fixed it, until I found this;
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android+Market/thread?tid=1ea082d443f3d16c&hl=en
Pushing that xml file (note the spelling mistake before you do it) fixed it all back up, no idea what caused it to get all messed up and why it wasn't fixed by wiping and reflashing.

I tried to push the file via adb shell in windows and got permission denied. Am I doing it right or do I need to root the phone again to be able to push that file because I have reverted back to the generic stock rom?
Mine was rooted when I pushed it, try re-rooting it and pushing it again I guess.
I finally got around to re-rooting it and tried your solution with pushing that file but no change to my market
Just to be clear I can see the Top Paid apps tab, but I cant access copy protected apps like Google Earth.

So heres the scenario:
I have an HTC Desire with Froyo loaded. I had rooted it with unrevoked 3.21 and everything was going fine until an OTA update (apparently an update for marketplace) came out. Yes, I made a stupid error and updated using the OTA and lost the root.
Now I did a factory reset and tried rooting it again with unrevoked 3.22. And surprise surprise! It got rooted again!!
Now the problem here is that, I am trying to re-install some paid and some free applications that were on my phone earlier and Marketplace refuses to even show up those apps in search results...!! They are not present my phone because of the factory reset. Now when I search for the same app in Appbrain it throws up the search result and when I click on it, it behaves as if the app is installed in my system and shows me options like "Open - Uninstall - etc."
Is there some cache in my system that makes it believe that these apps are still there somewhere? I deleted everything from my SD Card and I tried clearing the marketplace cache. I also cleared the Dalvik Cache (dont know if its in any way related to the marketplace, but I still did it)
So what is it thats going wrong? Why arent these apps showing up? Any help would be appreciated. I am quite disillusioned with Android marketplace.
try to install market access to try another country instead. after installing market access force stop market and clear cache.
Tried that, but it didnt work.
After searching the internet about this problem I realised that every ROM has a fingerprint that needs to be registered with Google. If this is not registered with Google, then users cannot find apps that are Copy Protected in the market.
I had recently received an OTA (about 2 weeks ago). So I am assuming that either HTC has not bothered to register this fingerprint with google or google has not updated their database. Either way the situation is pretty deplorable.
The only workaround that I found on the internet is to edit the build.prop file in the Android system (of course you need root access for this). I am planning of trying to do this so that I can fool the market into believing that I am using an older ROM version which is registered with them.
Well, just tried the build.prop method. Successfully spoofed the marketplace.
Shame on Google for having such restrictions. If I didnt have root access and I didnt know about this spoofing method, then I would just have to wait endlessly until either HTC or Google moved their rearside and get things working.
Really disappointed with Android.
I hope someone has found a solution as NO ONE from GOOGLE seems to respond when I sent a support request.. I have not been able to download ANYTHING from the NEW market APP. I tried deleting the android_Secure, looking for the temp file people talk about, deleting cache and data etc. I have since FLASHED the OLD MARKET back. NOW, some APPS will install and SOME updates to apps will install. OTHER APPS and OTHER UPDATES will not install with the "install unsuccessful" message and OTHER apps will try to update but the phone will restart.
I see this listed all over on different forums and I am hoping someone has found a solution. It appears it is a wide spread issue. last night I was able to download a program from the market called FULLHDMI but today I tried to download SPRINT TOTAL PROTECTION APP and it downloads but doesnt install. Then I tried to update FULLHDMI and that worked but another app update didnt and finally a third app update rebooted the phone.
What is going on and how to resolve?? There has to be some kind of fix.
Thanks ....
Dang... you are still having issues? I wish I could help you more man. I have told you all I know to do That sucks!
Hey people,
I'm currently located in China and I've got serious problems with the Market lately.
I'm using and been using CM7 on my Moto Defy for months (almost since CM7-Jordan beginning) and I've never had such Market problems before.
So I'm wondering if
1) other users from China can tell me if things are the same (or fine) for them?;
2) anyone have hint/suggestion on how to fix this after reading what I did/observed here?:
First, I'll say again that I've never had problems with Market before; none getting it installed (through gapps zip) on CM7 when updating/reflashing ROM or Nand backups/ none with downloading or upgrading apps with the Market app.
But all in a sudden last week, I noticed that the Market was not reacting quickly. I was testing 111004-1128 nightly (which has a newer Superuser file included) then after SU updated itself automatically [coincidence???], all things broke loose, Market would not connect and give me errors. SU would also alway stay in the "Not Installed" List of my Market apps (even after reboots and logins).
I've then tried to install the Superuser Market update fixer app (big mistake I think now) but that just made things worst. In an effort to get the Market going again, I did clean it's cache and eventually it's data which basically resetted all my listed apps in the Market.
Following all that, I did numerous fresh installs [maybe 10 at this point]: RSDL Froyo flashing and CM7 and gapps installs [with and without restoring old working CWM backups] and with countless install combinations of older CM7 builds and gapps versions.
On August's gapps, Market always gives me the "No connection Retry" even if I can get connected to Google services since my wifi indicator turns blue or green (depending on theme/CM7 build used) and Talk and Gmail logs in fine.
On June's gapps, login seems fine: I can browse apps but as soon as I try downloading something, I get stuck at Downloading 0%... and it seems to put the servicee in some sort of bootloop since and other apps icons do not display until I get "Download failed to install - Try again" and click OK. Market will also FC as soon as I select anything from the "Just in" sections.
I've tried clearing Market's cache many times, started Talk, signed out and back in, let my wifi on all night to leave Market to update. I've even created a new gmail account and tried it on yet another fresh install with June gapps; nothing works and this drive me nutts!!
I can go on my desktop, use a VPN service to log in to my Market account and install something from there; it will be pushed on my phone alsmost right away. But again I can't install anything from the phone no matter what.
That would be fine with me, but that means that for any special apps that otherwise would require me to use Market Enabler, I will not be able to do it from the desktop either.
It's not a question of having DroidWall or anything else I've installed blocking something out; like I wrote; I've tried many clean installs without restoring or installing anything...: same.
So, has The Great Firewall" finally caught up to Android Market and stopping use of any Vending.apk from withtin China? Are they recent changes from Google? Or am I having other Market setup/install problems here? What's your take on this?
Thanks for reading and thanks for any help in advance.
Cheers.
And PLEASE do not "full quote" this long post (sorry for that btw) .
Market has been blocked by GFW. I can't access it either unless using VPN.

This sounds not so far fetched..
I live in the US, and I see the same type of behavior at my college.
I can get to the app, but when downloading it sits there for a century.
the idea of censorship isn't something I would blame, nor shrug.
Her are a few things I should try...
Use a spare gmail account to test with, and see if you can reproduce the same results...
Try and use that same vpn, configured through your phone this time, and disable any apn/data settings other than wifi... Now try.
Edit:
P.s. What ROM are you using? The cm team has a stable out now.. Guide that a shot...

My OP was a long one, but I think that i did mention somewhere that I've tried a new gmail account with same result.
My vpn use encryption and will not work on defy ;(
Strangely, from all my recent tries at getting gapps to work properly, it seems that I can only use 2G data to do the first account setup. And that seems to 'work' only with June gapps package.
Recent update (on RC1.5):
I've also managed to get my installed apps listed again by playing around with 2G data and installing and uninstalling a standalone 3.1.3 Vending apk as update and undo it.
I was able to download 2 or 3 apps (out of 50 trials) also by fiddling w data enable/disable.
But again, never before, in 4-5 months using CM7, I had to turn on data past the initial Google setup and I've never had any download issues either....
So i don't think that it's related to TGFW and will keep digging...
On 7.1 now but no change..as
I did flash june gapps w 7.1 but never got any setup to do since no factory reset. Will try a clean install tomorrow or the day after...
Thanks for your reply.
OK I finally got it to work after all.
I just tried to fix the fix the problems caused by the new Superuser update after trying a recent nightly in just the worst possible way over and over.
So what you have to remember is:
1- to NOT signin to your Google account using data and do it over wifi. So select "Skip" on the screen showing "Create an account", "Sign in" or "Skip" and go ahead with other settings: your baseband, wifi and especially turning off "Data enabled".
2- always use the latest gapps version, not the June one like I tried many times
3- Install gapps along with a fresh CM7 zip install; not a nand restoration.
4- after reboot (if needed by Defy Baseband Switcher) just press the Market icon and set up your account then
So wipe data, cache and Dalvik and install CM7 zip (RC1.5 is a good one to start with) and and latest gapps zip and follow the above.
Sorry for this useless thread and for me trying to get this working like a chicken without a head
So @ TimelesslyPrecise: if your downloads do not start, it might as well be because you did setup your account over data the first time.
So just start from scratch again:
- backup your apps [with TB, the newest (and free) Astro file manager or other];
- do a fresh CM7 install (no need to reflash Froyo) but do as above;
- restore your apps;
- then just click on the Market icon and sign in.
Don't worry if at first your apps are not listed under "My apps"; they will eventually come back with usage.
@xcjiang: yeah I knew that, but that doesn't mean that the Market app on the phone doesn't work.
Sorry again about that.
Cheers.
Didn't worked for me...
Instead I found cause and solution elsewhere http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295222
To cut the story short, problem is in way that Market don't get DNS right.
Solution is to install app that will change DNS for every wifi connection DNS to OpenDNS (my choice) or GoogleDNS. I'm using DNS Changer.
Now enjoy superfast Market
The android market just gives me that striped animation anytime I try downloading an app. Have tried clearing the market cache, google framework service cache nothing seems to work! Just the new EU firmware OTA and rooted and removed the bloat apps and downloaded script manager from the market without any problems. Then tried to download a busybox app...thats when the market just stuck on the stripped animation and its been that way with everything else I've tried from the market incuding updates to my apps. Please any help guys??

Done a restart ?
If it does not help: Because you are rooted, you should be able to delete the Android Market. You can get the AndroidMarket.apk from the net and reinstall it(Unknown Sources have to be checked). But before doing something fancy, you should do a BACKUP, with CWM or RZR.

Yeah several restarts. Just got an update, it appears the youtube app also gets stuck with the rotating circle...cant load the video. Cant help but assume these are related. And also I've tried this on both wifi and 3G, same.

This is strange indeed. If even the solution above doesn't help, I would recommend you to flash you ROM via ODIN. Usually it should replace the missing files, so this could work. Do a Backup as mentioned above.
BTW: But generally your internet works? (via Browser)

Yes my internet works fine. I actually cant do anything requiring a usb cable since I lost mine and wont be getting a new one till the weekend maybe. I actually tried some other things like clearing the cache partition in recovery (stock) and logging out of gTalk and relogging in which solved similar problems for people online. Just seems everything is fine...except the market cant connect and download stuff, and youtube cant connect and load videos...I feel its a google account problem surely but dont have a clue what to do. Thanks for your response all the same.
First......Ensure SD Card is properly seated, open phone and make sure of this!!!
Do these :
Settings/Applications/Manage
Applications/All/
Downloads/Clear Data.
Media Storage/Clear Data....

I've done them...nothing. I've also tried clearing the Dalvik cache using Titanium Backup...didnt help. After leaving the phone over night with a dowload still in the background..this was the error I found in the morning 'Error Download Could be Completed (497)'..???

I cant quite explain what happened, but I fixed it. It had to do with a botched backup/uninstall of google books with TB. I tried to back it up but it seemed to just hang up. Then I killed TB in the Task Manager and restarted it. I realised a backup had been made for the older version(1.46) instead of the new version(1.52). Google Books showed up as a system app after my last FW upgrade and I updated it (through the market) but the update made the app unusable(FC everytime I start it). I ignored all that at the time since I didnt use it actually. Tried to remove it yesterday and I guess that set this whole mess in motion. Thanks to all
Hey guys:
Unlocking and rooting my HTC Wildfire was the second most frustrating experience of my life. However, it's finally over and I flashed CM 10 onto my phone along with 4.1.2 GApps signed (I followed this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878031&highlight=unlocked+bootloader+but+s-on).
Everything seemed to go well, except the Google Play Store doesn't work. It keeps giving me the "Error retrieving information from server. [RH-01]" message. I've also noted that Google Services Framework is NOT installed on my phone. I should note that I have 0 apps installed, meaning I do not have a file manager and there is no file manager/explorer that comes stock as far as I'm aware.
I've looked all over the internet and everything tells me to erase the cache because corrupted data seems to be the most common cause of this error message. This is obviously not the case with my phone. What do I need to do to get this thing to work? I've reflashed the GApps and even flashed a different one. I've tried manually downloading and installing Google Services Framework but it won't install. I've tried moving files around on my SD card (the only thing I can access from my computer) and nothing has worked.
I'm just about at my wit's end here guys. Please help me!
PS. I have a clockworkmod back-up from before my phone was rooted saved onto my computer. However it doesn't have my apps in it so I don't think I can get a file manager from it.
**FIXED**
I feel like an idiot, but the reason it wasn't working was because the CM 10 mod I was trying to install failed to install :S I wrote the warning sign off as something else and didn't read the message it sent me I guess.
ANYWAY I found a fix here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136011 use the SLIMCM-10 ROM instead and that's what fixed if for me (use all the other downloads he has there too, except for the regular CM10 mod). Thanks for the help that I received, and sorry for being a n00b. Love this community BTW, you guys are the best!
This happened to me the first time I flashed icu's marvelc port of paranoid android...I fixed it by wiping everything and just reflashing the whole rom and gapps. Try that. Tell me if it works.
