Hi,
I created an update.zip that you can flash in CWM.
After that you just need to install OpenVPN Settings from the market and add your config files.
if you want to know what exactly will happen then you can open the following file in the zip:
Code:
/META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
the idea for the update.zip came after an initial topic on how to get OpenVPN to work in combination with the amount of updates designgears is bringing us with his great Cognition rom
this update.zip is tested with Cognition 1.15, Cognition 1.21, Cognition 1.31 & the first Nightly of CM7 (in 0, OpenVPN didn't work for me)
*reserved* just in case
Does this work on stock rom?
Sweet!!! Thanks!
Thanks! Great little addition to my "ROMs" folder

the update.zip should work as it mounts the /system, copies needed files and create symlinks
OpenVPN needs tun.ko in the kernel from what I understand so I'm not sure the stock kernel supports it..
It works perfect!
Thank you!!

Well I installed it and started up OpenVPN and it doesn't complain over a missing tun.ko. So I would assume I am in the clear.
Is there anyone using OpenVPN with SIPdroid? My OpenVPN connection is working (via 3G I can access the modem configuration screen of my homenetwork by simply entering the local ip in the browser on my phone), but SIPdroid won't connect. I see the red dot, sometimes it goes to the yellow dot (trying to reconnect), but never the green dot (connection established).
Thanks, the zip works fine for me, on stock ROM with CF-Root.
I'd previously installed OpenVPN and settings app and got it reporting a connection without the tunnel and IP address actually being present. This works fine with my same config and keys!
great ,,, thanks
Hi
I have the same problem with openvpn. I want to try this update but I'm not sure how it works. I copyed the openvpn binary to /system/xbin but i dont know how to proceed with the other files.

you need to reboot to recovery (ClockWorkMod) and flash the update.zip attached to the first thread like you would flash a rom (but without wiping offcourse )
Thx!
So you mean I have to flash the SGS2 like at the rooting proceedure?
- copy the zip file on your internal sdcard (/sdcard)
- reboot to recovery
- select "install zip from sdcard"
- select "choose zip from sdcard"
- now select the file and flash it
- reboot and you should be all set
How do I get in recovery mode again? Lock Button, Reduce Sound Button and Center Button?
good question, don't really know
The roms I used always had the extended power menu (long press power button) and had the recovery option..
I got it. It was with CWM
Thx 4 help!
Hey thanks
already got tired of making all the symlinks again and again
so im gonna test it now
but why a update flash is nessesary?
you need root for ovpn settings anyway and all needed (beside proper tun.ko) are proper symlinks to busybox
so wouldnt it be enough to make an app where oyu enter path to BB and do all symlinking?
btw - no the tun.ko dont have to be compiled in the kernel - thats what insmod is for - linux you know *g*
Thank you for your work!

Just to demonstrate the power of Steam, I hereby provide you a Steam Powered Gingerbread
This is based on SC's idea of using /data to store the gingerbread files, which works even if FSR is not loaded.
I also went forward and fixed the keyboard issue, so now the home, back and menu buttons work as expected! Oh, and also added recovery mode (running steam recovery of course ), that can be opened using the ususal three button combo. ("adb reboot recovery" or similar will not work however)
What still doesn't work:
- Wifi
- Modem (3g and phone)
- Camera
- Gps
Installation:
1. Download the system dump from here, and put the file on the root of your internal SD card
2. If not already on ext2 or ext4, convert your /data partition to ext4. (because the next step requires Steam Recovery, I'd go with Steam kernel, if your current one doesn't support ext on /data)
3. Download the afterburner install files from here
4. Create a steam directory on your internal sdcard, and put the previously downloaded file there. If there are other afterburner*.zip files there, delete them.
5. Enter Steam Recovery (there are multiple ooptions on how you can get it), choose afterburner, select both options, then press "Install". This will take a while. You might want to switch to log window 1, where you can see the /system extraction progress
6. After finished, reboot. Gingerbread will boot up.
7. If asked to install Steam kernel you can do so, but first read note.
8. Enjoy. To switch back, flash any kernel. If you want your old data back, flash a kernel with ext4 support.
9. If you switched back to a "normal" kernel, you can use afterburner to get back to gingerbread too. Only select the second option when running afterburner, and on the next reboot, gingerbread will greet you in a state as you've never left it.
Note: A steam kernel installation requires you to reboot into recovery after installing it. On base Galaxy S ROMs this is done automatically, but gingerbread's kernel lacks the commands needed to programmatically reboot into recovery. Therefore it will always reboot into normal android mode, where he finds out that he needs to reboot into recovery, but boots into normal mode, etc... to exit this loop simply reboot into recovery manually (using the three button combo), to finish installation of Steam Kernel. You will be greeted with the afterburner window, press back without selecting any of the options (they won't work anyway), and you're done.
Alternate install: Of course you don't need afterburner to install this. Simply follow the instructions on supercurio's page, but use the kernel found inside afterburner.zip, instead of the one provided on the mentioned thread. /data needs to be converted to ext4 though.

Not exactly following you on how to install the Steam Kernel. Do I need to pull the battery at some point? If so, when? If not, what am I supposed to to do manually get it into recovery mode? No matter what I do I am always greeted with "Steam doesn't seem to be installed, or it was recently uninstalled." etc.

Amazing. i will pay you the 2011 Sziget if that works. lol
Hmmmm nothing happens when I choose "Install" in afterburner menu.. It seems to be instant. Just like it didn't found the install file.
I named the folder "steam" at the root and put the afterburner.zip into it though..
Edit: Okay I'm f***** stupid, didn't check the two options. It works now.. really sorry
Edit2: It seems like I'm stuck in steam recovery. Everytime I reboot I get this message : "Partition /res/.fake/gingerbread/cache could not be mounted!"
The "format partition to ext4" function doesn't seem to work as well. Same for the proposition of installing Steam kernel..
I had my /data partition formatted in ext4 via voodoo though.
So basically, whatever choice I make, it'll never boot... Do I have any other solution than a flash with odin to get something working ?
huge work, and it works !
well done

Download the newest radio driver in the "Index" thread in the dev section. Then flash it in CWM 2.5.x.x
The latest ends with '20.10'
To get temp. CWM use the update1.zip in the 'Index' thread or use Rom manager to install CWM 2.5.x.x and reboot to recovery by rom manager.

all steps
open rom manager
-menu: all recovery
-install 2.5.xx, in the first line you will find recovery installed 2.5.xx
then, from the menu: install rom
-looks for radio
-Install
the wildfire reboot and run the intallation after you have flashed the radio.
I think if you have a backup of a ROM with working GPS, it is easier and you know works to restore the rom, turn on the GPS (I turn on all connections) to enter in recovery and flash again CM7.
Thank you!

hi everyone, I also have similar issue.
at first gps doesn't work at all, and after flashing radio 20.10 with android flasher
now the gps icon in status bar appear when I open google maps or gps test.
well, today is cloudy but it seems that the gps is not locking or even seeing any satellite.
I wonder if my gps is actually still not working or this is different issue?
I just root my phone last night and this is my first flashing experience with wildfire so I don't have any backup rom..
I tried gps patch to modify gps.conf but I don't see any improvement..
thanks in advance for your response..
Don't worry.
It's just the cloudy sky.
Go out when the skies are clear and just let the gps lock your own location once.
After that, it will start working smoothly.

hm, basically to apply any of that patch you only have to copy the files to /system/etc in your phone..
if you download one of the patch in that thread, you will get .zip file containing gps.conf and SuplRootCert (if exist).
there are various ways to copy those files such as using ES File Explorer, Root Explorer, or other similar apps.
but personally I used terminal emulator.
1. copy those files to a folder in your sd card
2. open terminal emulator and type
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
cp /system/etc/gps.conf /mnt/sdcard <backup your original gps.conf in case you will need to restore it>
cp /mnt/sdcard/anyfolder/gps.conf /system/etc <change anyfolder with the name of your folder>
cp /mnt/sdcard/anyfolder/SuplRootCert /system/etc <you don't have to type this line if this file didn't exist>
mount -o remount,ro /system
3. exit and maybe you need to reboot.. good luck
Lol. This seems kinda difficult. Thanks anyway

Basically it is a patch to speed up the AGPS (with active connection) and it works I tried it with the GPS STATUS application
some useful sections of tread:
Confused with all the options below? As the Notes section dictates: I recommend the GOOGLE BUILD of all devices. Other builds have changes in their SUPL server information and/or other variables pertinent to that manufacturer. These builds do not appear to operate as fast as Google build's but are available for your enjoyment.
Method 3 (easiest if you use a compatible version of CWR or CWM)*:
1. Download the patch
2. Boot into CWR (Clockwork Recovery)
3. Mount /system/ partition (on the main menu, select the "Mounts and storage" option, then "mount /system")
4. Flash the patch (on the main menu, select "Install zip from sdcard," then "choose zip from sdcard," and find the zip and select it)
If you receive "(Status 0) Installation aborted" this Method will not work for you. Use one of the other methods.
5. Reboot the device
6. Review the NOTES section.
So it is really very easy :victory::victory:

I just went back to stock ICS tonight as well and have me found in the same situation, to fix it all you need is to dowload the lights.n1.so - BLN.zip from here ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2067954
unzip it cause its not a flashable zip for some reason, transfer the lights.n1.so file you got from the zip to your sdcard, use any root enabled file explorer (i use rootbrowser lite myself) and copy the file to this directory --> system/lib/hw and paste it there, it should ask you to overwrite (back up the original file just in case) select yes and reboot. After that check the BLN app and you sould be able to activate it now :good: activate it and deactivated a couple time just in case lol it worked for me. Hope it helps.
Thanks
Thank you worked like a charm.

Then use the updated exe to install TWRP.
NOTE: If you don't like TWRP, you can download Guitwo2's Permanent CWM at http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1875373&d=1365682716
Temporary CWM Recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1875299&d=1365680458
2nd-init does NOT work in CWM Recovery
Thanks to @Guitwo2 for CWM Recovery.
Instructions on how to install Permanent CWM Recovery:
1. Make sure stericson-busybox is installed
2. Put XT320_bootmenuV2.zip in the root of your sdcard
3. Reboot into fastboot mode by typing this command in cmd:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
4. Then type this command in cmd:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
5. Then use volume keys to navigate and power button to select option. Select install zip from sdcard, then select XT320_bootmenuV2.zip and select yes to install the zip file
6. Then reboot device by selecting reboot device now.
CWM 6 has a bug where it asks you to 'disable recovery flash' when you select reboot system now make sure you select NO or you will soft brick your device.
Changelog:
-v2 No need to mount /sdcard in CWM Recovery. Fixed TWRP installation issues.
-v2.0.1 Released an .exe version of script, to simplify installation
-v2.0.1.1 Fixed bootmenu.zip
This can install a custom recovery?
This can install a custom recovery?
Thank you
The root process worked for me. Now i can install link2sd and set up a swap partition.
I cant install TWRP and i think the reason is that the bat was having some problem to send that bootmenu.tar file to my sd card. I tried to send that file myself before starting the entire process and it didnt worked.
I took a picture of the error i'm getting . Thank you again, i was really mad about that low internal space xD
same problem... someone can fix it? please

Ok, I've made a fixed script here. The error was that the sdcard is a directory so it will refuse to push files into it.
Here's the updated script below. Just put the .bat file in the same place as the other files.
Thanks

Ty for the quickly answer.
Btw, my gsm network wasnt working after the root process. If the same thing happens to someone else, just do a master reset and it will work again.
pull command is working now
That sdcard copy part is working now. The TWRP process is still not working for me. I tried to do myself the commands using the adb interface and when i use the command to intall the tar, i got the message 'tar: no space left on device" . I hope you can help me with that and i'm sorry about all this questions xD .

You must have more than 5MB free in your /system partition. Please move your apps to the /flex partition or delete the useless apps in /system.

Yes but it sometimes gets unstable so you should overclock to 700MHz which is the highest I got without reboots. pll2_l_val=73 gives you 700MHz.

It worked for others but in your situation the only thing I can advise is to do a data wipe and relfash SBF file. Just go to Guitwo2's there to install permanent CWM.
