[Q] CMW installed by Revolutionary, Rom Manager wants to install it again - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I successfully got s-off and rooted my phone using Revolutionary and installed CWM 4.0.1.4 when the program gave me the option. I then installed Rom Manager from the market and it doesn't recognize that CWM is already installed and wants to install it and will not do anything until it does. Is it okay to let it reinstall CWM?
Many thanks.

Just do with out it. Do you really need rom manager? I just boot to the bootloader and then to recovery. From there you can flash whatever you need. I wouldn't even install rm unless you're using it download a Rom that can ONLY downloaded from there

Either do w/o RM and use 4014 or use RM and use 4008. Personal preference really, you will get to the same place and no it won't hurt anything to let RM flash over 4014.

Does Revolutionary work on the incredible 2 now??

Or, you could let rm flash .8 and then reflash 1.4. This will fool rm into thinking you have .8 installed, and you can use it normally.

Thanks for the replies. I was concerned about my original stock backup made with 4.0.1.4 not working with 4.0.0.8, but seems like this wont be an issue. At any rate, I'll probably do without RM for now since I don't really need it.

Revolutionary works on the DInc2 but only if you are on 2.2.1, same as Alpharevx. If you did the OTA update to GB or your phone came preloaded with it, it will not work.

well sounds like you already have the latest Clockwork installed? if so, I believe UnRevoked comes with a downgraded version so I would try and downgrade the version on your phone see if it helps
Well I'm able to go into recovery it's just when I try and use rom manager or titanium backup it comes up saying the phone doesn't have root privileges so I thought it wasnt rooted properly. If I'm rooted because I can go into recovery and it shows s= off in h boot then how do I fix the privileges part of it all?

This happened to me after I used unrevoked. It ran successfully, I tested w/ rom manager and it worked. I then rebooted a few minutes later and tried using several other root apps and none could obtain root privelages. So, I flashed a custom ROM (cyanogen 6.1) then had full root access again. Maybe that will help?

EDIT: still same issue, what do I do to fix?

Revolutionary Rooted but Not???

First I wanted to say hi to all of you. Evo 4G is my second Android phone. I'm still a noob in training but I'm getting by.
I'm having a bit of a issue with trying to use some apps for root only and keep getting that I need to be rooted. Yes S-Off is displayed but I'm still running into this issue no matter what. Did I miss something? I'm still searching the forum to find a answer but I haven't found anything as of yet.
Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks
Z3r0
Edit: I figured out what the problem was. Me being stupid and not reading enough. Mods go ahead and lock/delete this thread.
to double check, there is an app in the market called "root check" by joeykrim.
and for apps to gain access to the phone you should have the app "superuser" it gives other apps permission to access root.
As someone previously stated, you'll need an app called "superuser" to allow apps to use root permissions.

This.
Running Revolutionary Roots your phone, but you need superuser to give programs root access. To give programs root access, you will need a rooted ROM with the superuser application or just download the superuser app.

Yeah I figured that out after reading the sticky at the beginning. My fault for not paying attention. I'm now rooted and loving it.
Thanks for the reply's guys.
I really did it now!!!
Ok so I'm back to ask some questions due to a noob mistake. Now I have been reading many of the threads that are available to fix my actual issues that I'm dealing with. I'm going to be very detailed so I apologize in advance.
So like a dumb dumb I decided to unroot my Evo as I was sure/ uncomfortable using the rooted OTA update to up date. So now I did some more reading and I did not need to unroot. Sorry I dont' know what I was thinking.
I've tried to run Revolutionary but all it does is aborts the operation everytime. I tried to change the recovery from Clockwork to Amon RA as I read that it is better so I tried to do that too. Nope that doesn't work either.
I was able to update the root OTA update but that was all that was done. So now I'm here asking for more help as I did more reading how to fix the current issue I'm having and its not working.
PLEASE Help me or guide me in the right direction to fix this.
This is all I am trying to accomplish:
1. Figure out why and what happend and get my Evo rooted
2. Apply the Amon RA recovery
Now if I need to completely wipe my phone I will do it if that is what you think is needed to be done. I know how to back up my app/ contacts etc. So just assist this dumb dumb please!
Anyone have any ideas?

s on which I know is not rooted. No matter what I try it refuses to accept the revolutionary root program. Should I try a different root method or is Revolutionary for 2.3.3 the only method? I've looked and can't find any other way.

First, I would flash an unrooted stock ROM - the latest, if possible (see this post).
Then, try rooting via Revolutionary again (revolutionary.io). Sometimes during the unrooting process, everything isn't completely restored to stock, so you might just need to flash a completely stock ROM to get back to the point where Revolutionary will work again.

Thanks for the heads up on this info. Now with the Stock RUU being RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.53.651.1_Radio_2.15 .00.0808_NV_2.15_release, does the 2.15 represent the HBOOT? As mine is the 2.16 or does that not matter?

The file name has nothing to do with the HBOOT version. It doesn't matter. If the HBOOT version you currently have is newer than the version in the RUU, it will simply skip updating it.
Ok ill test it when I get home from work tonight.

All you need to is flash another hboot for the evo. (Any of them will work. Doesn't really matter. Look around for the files and a guide is out there I'm sure. If not, PM me. Anyway, flash it. And then run revolutionary. It should work then.
I did not know that, tommytomatoe. But regardless, what I suggested would work if my thinking is correct.

He said he has Hboot 2.16. If I'm not mistaken you cannot downgrade your Hboot version from something like 2.16 to 2.15 or 2.10. Either way, Revolutionary will be able to root 2.16 just fine. Seems like all he needs to do is follow Captain Throwbacks advice to get his phone out of "What the hell are you doing to me" mode.
I have yet to perform the flash. I got caught up at work late last night. I'll do it tonight for sure when I get off work.
Thank you all for the input and I'll let you all know if my Evo will let me get it out of ""What the hell are you doing to me" mode.

I reflashed older one, it's working now. But how can I update it through market? It shows I have latest version.
You don't really need to be updating it via the market. All it is is a gateway for your applications to root access. It's a list of what is and is not allowed.

Hmm..to precise, it doesn't root the stock ROM, but replaces it with a rooted ROM made by teppic. There may be other additions.. It's just as easy to root a ruu if you're s off.
Oh btw, Terepin, you have to modify init.rc to make an unprotected boot..

Older EVO 4G HBOOT 2.10.0001

This phone was rooted already, then today I returned it to stock since the cyanogen7 that was on there did not... somehow... have the menu option to "update profile" I needed to change my phone number. I wanted to re-root, but I'm having trouble where to begin.
In the Power+Vol Down boot screen, it shows S-OFF, and HBOOT 2.10.0001
I cant make Revolutionary work because 2.15 is the lowest HBOOT it accepts.
If I choose the "recovery" option in that list, I get a black screen with a red triangle/exclamation point icon over an icon of the phone. I have to take the battery out to get the phone back on.
The phone does work, btw. But I miss the stuff I get when it's rooted. Anyway... what do I do now? How do I get the recovery/cyanogen7 on there if I cant get superuser permissions?
I used some other method back when I rooted this phone, but I haven't seen anything yet to spark my memory of the steps.
U are already s-off. No need for revolutionary. Go to dev thread and look for amon_ra recovery. Download it and follow directions to flash it. Then download whatever rom u want and flash that. The red triangle just means you have no recovery.

I thought Revolutionary was how I got the custom recovery on the phone, which I need before I can root? I;d like to put CWM on there, since I have a paid version of Rom Manager already, and I believe they work together well.

You'll have to uninstall rom manager as you need CWM recovery. To back up, simply backup all your apps and data in tb, boot into recovery, select nandroid restore/backup, selecet backup, and you NEED the first 3 checked [boot, system, data]. Also if its your first, backup wimax as well, then copy it to your pc for safe keeping, in case you ever lost your wimax keys.

So I was thinking about upgrading and using revolutionary. Is there really any difference that would want me to re learn unrevoked, or just upgrade the h boot and software and use revo? any insight would be appreciated

There is no reason to "upgrade" to revolutionary. Unrevoked is the same thing as revo. Just unrevoked doesnt work with the newer hboots. If your already s-off in bootloader there is no difference. U can use any rom regardless if u used revo or unrevoked. The whole object of rooting is to get s-off. Once you have it there is nothing more you can do. Ive used both on unrevoked on my original evo. And revo on my newer refurb. There basically the same. Easy auto root pretty much.

you should be golden from there
What eventually fixed it was flashing a new ROM. Thanks for everyone's input though
