For the past 5 months I have been using cm7 with no problems. But in the last month or so problems have been slowly coming up. It started with phone freezes then it slowed down greatly, then I got fc on EVERY APP! So then I switched to synergy hoping to fix the problems but there still there. I need help quick because I can't even make calls with out it freezing.

have you wiped everything (data, cache, dalvik) in recovery BEFORE flashing?
I just went through the same thing with the stock rom (rooted without the verizon crapware).. Had it since Day 1 of availability.. then a few days ago.. force closing all the time..
Even when switching roms. Even when NOT restoring with titanium.. Did everything fresh (ugh.. you have no idea how many hours).... and photos were disappearing from it
My first thoughts were "frak... I really screwed up something" (my niece dropped in on the floor a few days earlier.)
Then the IT in me decided to fall back on my experience. K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid).....
If even changing roms didn't fix it.. what did everything have in common? The SD Card.
So I formatted the card making sure to take everything off I needed. Put it back in.. and put a fresh rom on.
No problems since. I'm guessing the file system of the SD card went a little wonky after a year of putting files on.. taking off.. putting on.. etc
Yep I cleared everything, data, cache
D cache and batt stats. Im going to try the SD card thing right now

Just gonna throw this out there. Try also formatting /system in the "mounts and storage" menu.
So far so good. The SD trick worked. But I want to put my titanium backup folder back on my SD card to get my apps back but I am not sure if that was the problem.
Also about the format /system l, I was thinking about that too. But if I can't get things working in the end I will format the system, data and cache.

Glad it worked.. after 3 very frustrating days for me and trying multiple roms and losing a few pics... glad I was able to at least past the info on to someone else
I am having this problem now with apps that are not installed on my SD card (which I just upgraded to larger size). All the Google apps are fc and some other ones here and there.
Were the fc apps all installed on SD?
I was thinking about a fresh gapps flash but may try the SD card first.

Glad I found this thread! I've been having same problem and couldn't figure out if it was a rogue app or not. It seemed like right after I flashed a new rom it would run great but after a few days I would start having trouble and eventually I'd have to flash another new one or try same one again.
I have a question though....I know most things on sd card are ok to delete since any app will put new folder on there if it needs to (obviously keeps pics, titanium backups, rom backups etc.)
But I don't have a way of formatting the sdcard OUTside of the phone. I don't have a card reader on my computer. Would it be ok to do this while the phone is plugged in? (something tells me no but...)
My only other option would be to put the sdcard in my old HTC ozone and try it that way...
You can just plug your phone into your PC, mount your SD card and reformat it that way. It works for me.

Random thought
You can try to repair the SD card before you format( if the repair doesn't work). Mount SD card to the computer via usb. Right click, properties, tools tab. Run error check. Just like a computer files get corrupted.

I have tried everything I know to do so I'm here asking for help....
I run Calks ROM and recently tried updating without wiping (normally never do). After a couple days of a buggy phone, I decided to wipe data, format, format, format, wipe data, etc and flashed it again. Start using it and it starts acting up again. Did my wipe/format deal and flashed stock...and left it stock. Within the first day it locked up and reset itself multiple times.
I don't know what to do...is there anyway to start any "cleaner" than formatting everything multiple times? I would really like a working phone again...
Are you restoring your information with titanium backup? If you are that's your problem.

+1. You can restore apps only, but don't restore apps + data.
Is this the only rom that's causing it?
I never, ever, ever use any "backup" anything. All apps get reloaded one by one and settings get modified one by one...
This is happening with every rom I try. I format EVERYTHING (except SD card, which is my next attempt at fixing...). This is why it's so frustrating. I can't blame anything. I try running the ROMs stock (no not-included apps) and the phone is still running like crap.
Tried deleting the ".android_secure" folder from the sd card?
If it's happening on every rom, and you completely wipe every thing correctly, the only thing they have in common is the sd card contents. Right?
My Evo made me Swype this from the XDA App.

Android secure is supposed to be deleted during the fActory reset. I will try getting the SD formatted tonight and start FRESH, FRESH....
perhaps it's the kernel?

Mines never been deleted from stock factory reset or reset with amon.
It started to cause problems with app downloads from me switching roms and reinstalling all my apps and moving them.
Just remember, if you have apps on your sd card (Not on a separate partition) move them to the phone before deleting it if you want to keep them.
Any luck fixing it yet?
What bout nand restore? Did you ever make a nand backup? It has always fixed any issues I've ever had.
I've been traveling for work and haven't had a chance to sit down and mess with it since the night I initially posted. Hopefully it is as simple as androidsecure not getting deleted...thanks for the heads up.
I just did a FULL FULL FULL wipe of the phone. "Factory reset," "format; SD, SD ext, system, boot, data, etc"....
I then flashed zip, rebooted and let it sit for 10 min before turning it on...upon unlocking, it locked up.
THIS IS GETTING RIDICULOUS!!! Is it possible the phone is just effed???

No good either...the last "good" backup comes up with "checksum error."
I'm not big on nand backups, since I usually do full wipes and restart from scratch. I don't really care if I can restore an old setup.
If you can't find a software reason for its acting up, it's a hardware problem. Full wipes take care of pretty much any software problem.
I would suggest unrooting and taking it by a Sprint store. If none of the suggestions you've tried so far have done any good, that's about your only option.

That's not an option either...as I bought it outright off ebay.
Guess I'll just go to the Epic...
I installed 'Full Wipe to EXT4 patch', followed by LeeDroid V3.3.1_GB then V5_HTC_Sense_3.0.
Very happy with the ROM and installation until I ran a Nandroid backup after getting the phone set up with apps and my data. Booted after the backup, the phone started up with the background screen and the Notification bar but no Desktop icons, no 'pull ring', no soft buttons and no hard buttons (pwr, volume)
The phone is 'working' - it rings, receives texts & emails (displays them on Notification bar but I just can't use it! I removed battery and restored the Nandroid but whatever had gone wrong has been saved in the Nandroid as it didn't help. I tried an Advanced restore, restoring just the System but no better.
I went back to the beginning with a Full Wipe, LeeDroid V3.3.1, etc and all is working but I'm concerned that this may happen again. I don't want to have to carry out daily backups.
One further point - I had the same problem when I first installed this rom a couple of weeks ago. On that ocassion, I was configuring my email client when I ran out of battery power. I assumed that the problem was bad luck with the timing of the battery going flat but now I'm not so sure.
Any ideas? Should I give up on Leedroid? (I don't want to)
Many thanks,
Nick

My question is how often should you format SDcard? I always format everything but SD when flashing roms. I've probably flashed 10 or more roms and never formatted my SDcard.

I wouldn't think how often would matter so much, but if your having issues a reformat might set somethings straight. I was having some issues with my sdcard and a reformat fixed them. Other people changed the card completely and it fixed their issues.

Well, what happenes is that after 4-5 minutes of the phone booting it just freezes and I have to battery pull.
What I did to my CM7:
No overclocking
Restored/moved apps to the SD
Market 3.2.0
I'm guessing it's something to do with the apps, because a fresh build doesn't freeze.

I just TB for batch move.
I ain't never tried it that way have you tried with dta2sd or that app from the market? Can't remember the name of it though ill just go check.........

oh, just to clarify I'm not using DarkTremor or anything like that, I'm not moving apps to sd-ext.
Just stock android SD card move.
Ahhh get you.
Errrmmmm not sure then mate its been a long time since i didn't use an external partition. I had some strange rebooting happening to me the other day though and the only way i could fix it was by flashing a safe ruu then reinstalling cm7 everything worked fine then.
Not telling you to do that though because your problem is caused by something else, maybe if you try narrowing it down by not batch moving and shifting them one by one you might find the culprit.

I am suspecting the batch move to fizzle something up.
I'll try wiping and reflashing and then moving manualy.
Not restore, I think using TI's Move to SD option is messing something up. Make sure App moving is enabled in CM Settings, and try using the Settings interface itself to move apps to SDCard rather than TI Backup
Will try that.
Phone's at bootanimation atm.
Still going on.
It may be that an app doesn't like being on the sd card...
I'll try moving apps 1by1 with 5 minute intervals :/
I have started to notice weird issues with my Note 2. When I decided to switch from Cleanrom 4.9 to the ATT version, I loaded the zip onto my internal storage through usb, and rebooted to recovery, but the zip wasnt where I put it (root of internal storage), nor could I find any folder that it didnt claim was empty. I put it on my sdcard and flashed that way after a factory reset+system wipe.
After getting the new rom setup, I rebooted the phone to find it had forgotten all the default apps, like nova launcher. Rebooted again and the same thing happened.
These problems have happened before, but never survived a factory reset.
I am scared that this is a hardware issue, which would really suck. Anyone have this happen or any ideas on fixing it?
I am planning on returning to ATT stock and if the problem happens again I will bring it to them, but we all know I don't want to have to do that
Thanks for any help
Well if you factory reset it it will forget everything. Its like starting fresh with nothing.

I factory reset it, set it up again, then rebooted. I set the new defaults after the reset, then they disappeared on reboot
the problem persisted over a full ODIN stock flash. Not really sure what to do now, it has become a large annoyance. I guess I will tell ATT what is happening, but I dont think something like this is covered under warranty

I am using a PNY class 10 32gb, but you are correct that it could be malfunctioning, although most of the problems seem to correspond with internal storage. I will try out a different card when I get home from work, thanks.
Hello,
I seem to have a problem where my SD card eats all of my RAM. I'm running AOKP JB 4.1.2 Milestone 1 ROM and I have a 32GB G.Skill class 6 SD card on my SGH-T999
I've been running the ROM for some time with this SD card and never had any issues until lately. My phone will get sluggish and eventually get to the point where it has trouble opening anything. I will go to open the dialer and it will force close back to desktop, rendering the phone practically useless. The phone just instantly kills any tasks to keep the system itself alive. If I restart, I have all my free RAM back but I can see it goes down a few MB every few seconds until there is only about 60 left.
I noticed when I remove the SD card, this stops completely. So at first, I tried reflashing said ROM above. As soon as I got back in, it was still doing it. So I reformatted the SD card, and left it blank, and inserted it, and it started this again.
So my question, why is this happening, and how can I fix it? Since it seems to be isolated to the SD card and not the OS, is it possible the SD card is going out? I've only had it for about 6 months and only ever kept music on it.

A media scan running against it?
Did you try fix permissions in recovery?
Update your ROM to a newer aokp build.
Are you restoring data from backups?
Some offending app you have loaded?
I can't be sure so I threw out some things to try.
Try shawn157 aokp builds. Very smooth and compiled for speed with linaro tool chain.

I've scanned the card for errors, and received none. I have tried fixing permissions as well. I only ever do clean installs, never backups.
Also when I cleaned installed last time trying to figure this issue out, there was no apps installed.
But I will try your suggestion and try said ROM above. I know mine is a little outdated, I've just never bothered to update since I cracked my phone screen some time ago, so I just don't have the love for this phone like I used to. I plan on an S4 soon.
On a side note, Windows has no problem with the SD card, reading or writing. And it's formatted FAT32. I just don't see the connection between the SD card and my RAM. Oh well....thanks for the info, appreciate it.
You can try the other Rom first of course, but if it doesn't help you should Odin flash the root66 firmware. Anytime you have issues you can't resolve, the best way to troubleshoot is from the official build.
It could be there is a corrupted block on the sd that the phone can't handle, but the computer can. Try formatting from the computer using the formatting utility from a sdcard.org.
Another option would be to partition it from the computer. (Try a 28-30GBP partition).
Another thing you can do is show cpu usage in developer options. It may help you see any process that might be getting hung up. Also check under Settings, Battery. (Charge full, then let it run to about 93%) (the media scanner was one thing that used to hang easily and eat resources, so watch for that or similar)
Borrow an sd from someone just to try it. It is very possible that even though it looks sdcard related, it may not be at all. (Stranger things have happened!) If it acts the same with another card, that means the card is not the source of the problem.
