USB hub to use with Xoom - Xoom Accessories

A while back I bought this hub.
http://www.amazon.com/ULTRA-PRODUCTS-ULT31808-Buddy-Hub/dp/B000A3JDBE
What made me pick it up is that each individual port is switchable between two computers. I use it to swap my keyboard, mouse, and flash drives between a desktop and laptop. Just tried it out with the Xoom (Rooted Tiamat 3.2) and a usb keyboard, mouse, and a flash drive all worked without a problem.

nice, it'd be nice if the xoom docks had working usb ports...

True. I ordered a dock that should be here tomorrow of Saturday. First order of business is to open it up and find out how they wired it. Since it does plug into the usb port on the Xoom I can't imagine it'd be that hard to rewire it to a regular usb port.
.....Assuming I don't destroy the dock trying to open it.

I found some pics on another forum where someone opened up the standard dock and added a USB and HDMI port to it (by basically just running extender cables). It looks like the dock is really just a USB sound card. I have a USB sound card I got for 25 cents that I used in a project to turn a cheap router into an internet radio. I'll have to try plugging it into the Xoom and see if I get sound out of it.

micro female/male hdmi and usb for Lapdock

I bought these on ebay. The HDMI is short but worked but when I connect both cables to lapdock, the USB is not being recognized so the keyboard/mouse is not working. I want this just to act as an extension so I can use full lapdock abilities with cables. Any idea what's going on (cable charges on plug but does not charge on lapdock)? Maybe someone has better usb cables.

From your title I've been looking for these (or similar) cables for a long time and have been unsuccessful. However I have yet to try them.

i don't think it will work either way, tried a few things like this with no avail.
why wouldn't they? Cheap build quality that doesn't include the data wires? Hell I'll be willing to splice two cables together to get our desired effect, the only problem is that cords with a female micro usb are incredibly hard to come by
So that is what you think it is? No data on the usb cables.

the only reason that is my suspicion is because there are many "charging" products out there that don't really need data. Why there would be a need for such a small charging extension cable is beyond me, but it's the only solution I can think of, but I have no way of confirming or denying it either. The ebay descriptions seem to imply that the data wires are there, but we all know how reliable ebay can be...
Another idea I had was that it might be sensing the resistance in the cable, since, if I remember correctly, that was how some think/though the car dock puts the atrix into car mode without a magnet as is/was commonly used. Again these are just ideas.
Or the cable is just so poorly made that it's defective...I honestly have no clue
Has anyone got full lapdock capabilities using extension cables? I can only get the screen working and not the mouse and keyboard.
The HDMI extender was the hard one to find. There are other micro USB extenders out there, theoretically with all wires connected....
http://www.usbfirewire.com/uextendmicrob.html
Kind of makes me wish i hadn't hacked up my lapdock to work with the Otterbox
Where did you get your HDMI extender? I got mine from All4Cellular but it's quite short. Will have to get another HDMI one if the usb cable you recommended works.

Here's what I am thinking about doing:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/140626354628#ht_2821wt_1177 or http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-HDMI-...ultDomain_0&hash=item415eac6dc0#ht_2821wt_980
http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Female-M...YPB4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1329854686&sr=8-2
then the hdmi cable that came with our phone:
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Stan...QTA8/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1329854856&sr=8-8
The HDMI certainly looks like it may work but the reason I didn't buy that product from ebay a few weeks ago was because it was $50. Now miraculously, it's only $6. Maybe I'll get that if the USB cable I just bought that was suggested works a few posts back.

This micro usb extension cord explicitly states that all 5 wires are connected (compatible with droid bionic for the purpose of docking with a case on the phone):

The HDMI cable seems to work. On the lapdock, with just the HDMI cable hooked up, it functions like it was it's an entertainment center.
The USB cord will need to be modified a little bit. I can't get it to seat right on the USB jack of the dock. I'll need to shave it down a bit as it doesn't sit down snugly.

I ordered the USB cable and experience this same problem, though I am waiting for my hdmi parts to come in (by April 6th I should have all my parts...). The cable itself works flawlessly as a micro usb extension cable when connecting it to the computer.
again as mentioned in the other thread, you want to be careful with the 5v coming out that micro hdmi port. for connecting back to your phone would be no issue, as the phone charges using this voltage, but hooking the lapdocks micro usb up to a host device probably wont appreciate the 5v coming back up the cable, where normally the usb device would be pulling power from said host, not providing it.
one suggestion is to just clip the red wire inside your micro usb cable/adapter.
btw the adapters i use do fit snugly side by side, without modification.
I've been following this thread for a little while now, and I wanted to share something I found.
I was looking at the Motorola Travel Webtop adapter. And I was curious to see whether it could be tweaked to suite our needs. I naively thought/hoped that I could flip the connectors in the device to make a small adapter to connect the Atrix to newer Lapdocks. Unfortunately as you can see in the pictures below (sorry not enough posts to link to the pictures) the two connectors are connected via a PCB not wires or a ribbon cable. Although I still have high hopes that I can de-solder the HDMI and USB connectors, and use a small length of flat ribbon cable to connect them and then re-positions the connectors in the case, to build a micro adapter to use the Atrix on the newer Lapdocks. Should this fail this will at least prevent others from making the same mistake, and solve the mystery of what's really inside the Webtop Travel adapter.
Do any one know if this Micro HDMI Cable would work for Lapdock.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Feet-HDMI...s_Adapters&hash=item416612cecb#ht_1149wt_1187
Description says for Asus tf201 MEMO ME171.
I believe all Cables are standard. Can this used to Atrix 4g with Lapdock?
I have otterbox case for Atrix and don't want to Remove cover everytime to plug in Lapdock.

G - NEXUS Micro USB Y Cable - Exists??

Anyone know if a MICRO USB to FEMALE USB cables are available? I posted a link below of what Im talking about but it is a MINI USB to female (example)
I'm trying to hook up a keyboard and a mouse to my galaxy nexus so im looking for a splitter that has 2 FEMALE usb ends
http://www.staples.com/Staples-4-Po...:Cables_Hubs_Adapters_&_Switches:715440:36302
I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking of making my own dock and having this apart of it would be pretty sweet.
i know im trying to find something like that. I was able to use an OTG Host Cable and i plugged my logitech wireless transmitter to it for my mouse and it worked on my Nexus it was sweet so i started thinking what if I can find a cable with 2 female ends so I can hook up a transmitter for a keyboard and one for the mouse.
Very interesting!!!
Motorola makes a micro USB to female USB. They sell it as an accessory to the Zoom. Use that with a USB hub.

I paired it to my GNex and everything works great, mouse and keyboard!
It is a little expensive, but no wires, and its a gorgeous piece of hardware.

Also it will leave the port open on the phone, so you can connect to your
TV. Really looking forward to Ubuntu's news today!

Thanks for that it looks really good and you're right I would still have an open port so i'll probably use an MHL adaptor that can charge at the same time.

or a Y cable that has two mini usb female ends and the other one would be male mini usb
I'd second the USB hub idea. I've got a small 4-port hub with a memory card reader built in that I connect via an OTG cable. The side benefit is that it's a powered hub so I can connect an external battery or AC adapter to it so USB devices will pull power from it instead of the phone. It's really not much bulkier than some weird multi-headed cable solution and when I only need one device (which is most of the time) the compact OTG cable works fine.
FYI, I don't think you can split the USB to support HDMI on one side and USB on the other, to my knowledge the chip in the phone only supports one at a time. Once HDMI is enabled you need to look at Bluetooth devices.
yea makes sense for the hub. I was just trying to avoid using bluetooth because Im sure the HDMI would draw power to push to screen but then again it would be plugged into the side for AC. I think that bluetooth keyboard mentioned earlier sounds like a good idea. It's got a mouse pad and keyboard all in one.

It actually works really well. I highly recommend it.
Also like someone said I don't think it would be possible to push HD video a keyboard and a mouse all through a hub.

Has anyone attached two USB devices?

I want to attach two usb devices to my Note.
One will be the MHL adapter and one will be the 2.4ghz wireless unit for a keyboard like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250996855143.
I need a Micro USB male to 1x Micro USB female and 1x USB female adapter.
These for some strange reason don't exist
I was just wondering if anyone has done anything similar.
I know I could get a Bluetooth keyboard, but I don't have one. I do however have the above keyboard
Oh wow! I'm interested into this keyboard! Does Lenovo Mini Wireless keyboard work perfectly with the Note? All buttons are recognized and trackball mouse is usable?
Its really good, i use it on my Note and my Libretto W100. The mouse and keyboard work perfectly.

You cannot attach 2 or more devices to the same usb port. You need an usb hub for that, but I don't know if the MHL would work with the hub. I will try later today to attach an usb hub and connect more devices, and will report my findings.

Edit:
--------------------------------------------
I have successfully connected a self powered usb hub to the galaxy Note, and connected 2 thumb drives, a combo card reader, and a mouse. The Note mounted both of my thumb drives, as /usbstorage/sda and /usbstorage/sdb respectively. Then I inserted a mikroSD card into the card reader and the phone mounted it as sdc. I then inserted an sony memory stick into the card reader and it was mounted as sdd. All mounts were usable, and I could watch movies from them, and watch pictures, copy files from one to the other, etc... But, when I connected the mouse to the usb hub it didn't recognize it. Whatever combination I tried the Note would not recognize my mouse, when plugged into the usb hub. When plugged directly to the OTG cable it works perfectly, but won't work when connected to the hub (maybe cables are to long).
Using rooted stock xxla6 firmware.
Edit2:
---------------------------------------
Just found out, that usb otg and mhl cannot work simultaneously. When the MHL cable is plugged in, the GNote's microusb port will become an MHL port, and from that point it will not act as an usb host or usb slave. :-(
It's too bad, 'cause I really wanted to connect it to my full hd monitor and use a mouse and keyboard, too.

This is the setup I'm going to do also. But as with topic, it's also very tempting to have everything USB powered. Since it will decrease latency and maybe power consumption as well? (as opposed to bluetooth) Well, MHL to HDMI will still drain our battery even if we connect it to power source

I havent seen one pre-built this way...but if you find the Moto dock there should be a way to solder this in without schematics.
Best of luck.
The dock you are looking for does not exist. You can (somewhat easily) mod the HD Speaker Dock to do this, but then the speakers probably won't work (since they use the USB port for audio). Just get a Bluetooth keyboard, problem solved.
Try this, I might buy it myself.

USB question

In the last few days dad got an Archos 80 G9 Tubo - yes, i helped him pick it out . i also spent a couple days with it playing with it and setting it up.
One of the things she wants to do is plug in a USB stick, but the port on the back is almost unusable for anything because its so close to the silver plate inside - there's simply not enough clearance. The one cable he was able to push into it (the cable from his iPod classic) bent the port at such an angle i was worried it was going to break.
WITHOUT ROOTING (i tried rooting his X2, that went over like a ton of bricks) is there a way to use either a USB on the go cable, or a super-slim USB extension cord (if it exists) to make a full sized USB port available to him?
Thanks in advance for any answers.
Hello,
There are 3 ways that I'm able to attach a full-size USB flash-drive stick into my Archos 80 G9 Classic:
(1) using the micro-USB port with this USB-female-to-micro-USB-male adapter works for me when I want to attach any "fat" full-size USB stick (search for product #B006XL26TS on Amazon);
(2) using the full-size-USB port without an adapter - this thin USB flash drive can attach to that weird angle full-size USB port with ease without using any adapter (search for product #B003DTLWHU on Amazon);
(3) using the full-size-USB port with a corded adapter that looks like this but not exactly this particular model (search for product #B001TH7GV4 on Amazon) - I don't remember where I got this adapter but it fits fine in that full-size USB port and I can attach any "fat" full-size USB stick...
Sorry I couldn't post the direct links since I don't have enough posts. Good luck.
thanks a lot.
i was thinking something like #3, i'd love to find a super-slim extension cable.
i use an ordinary usb cable i made fit using a cutter knife. this works quite well.
I use a stripped usb stick, by removing the casing from the stick.
