WP7 Mango 7712 simply R.O.C.K.S..... - Windows Phone 7 General

Just Lovin it!

Whats new in this update? Or is it just bug fixes?

Things like Twitter integration, one thing I am wondering about however, is the fact that 500 features were promised to us. But Mango beta does not seem to have nearly as many, as much as I love this update....
Do you guys think MS has some aces up its sleeve?

Yeah, that is what I would like to know as well. The 500 features. I'm guessing this all we are going to get though, can't see them adding anything more specially since the RTM is already out.

Yeah only thing that I could think of, is that they are intentionally hiding things. Might be a reason why developers are getting an extra build and not just RTM?

Maybe, something I would love is if they made the keyboard a bit bigger, since in the left side of the screen there is just empty space

Where exactly is this twitter integration? I don't see it in mine

Are you referring to the second line in keyboard? the actual keyboard takes use of full space leaving no space on left except for second line which has less number of alphabets and all the alphabets boxes should of same size which might be the reasoning behind leaving that space..

I'd be willing to bet that the majority of the 500 features are small things that won't jump out to us.

Well, it's not 500 but here seems to be a pretty good list.

So, got my WP7 device yesterday (insurance replacement for a Tilt 2). Now just need to figure out how to get Mango RTM onto it.

Go to the People Hub, click on the 3 dots at the bottom and click settings. Scroll down and add a twitter account. Tweets will show up in the What's New section of the people hub.

I mean this twitter is really lame... I don't know anone in my 350 plus list of Facebook friends who use Twitter ... I don't understand all the hype behind it... Twitter is soo overrated.. I don't have a twitter account even if i had one i wouldntknow what to tweet about... And who the hell would care about my tweet and read it... I don't see me having any twitter account in really long time... Maybe if they close both fb and Google plus... Than I will think about having twitter ....

Just updated to 7712.

Does anyone have problems with Office hub?? Mine is not starting, i'm tapping on it.. it fades out and brings me back to homescreen.

WiFi + Browsing is absolutely disgusting. I am happy

No Problem with Office Hub, In Fact I tried playing Music from my SkyDrive account (from Office Hub), and it works perfect on my HD7 Mango 7712....
Did I say, I'm Lovin' It..............

Yea, I agree, besides breaking my "sideload" numbers, it totaly rocks. Faster, stable as a rock and Twitter works, I can tweet !!!!!
A worthy install for anyone thinking about it.

You wait for it to come out like everybody else of course, this fall. XD

I've been off platform since getting my SGS2. I miss it dearly though. It's a unique OS. I really want to ask for an honest assessment.
Can Mango compete and make this a three horse race?

Most of those 500 features are in unlocked APIs like Socks, sensors etc. We will get some great features like Twitter integration, better Windows Live / Facebook integration, improvements in Outlook, support for Skydrive / Office 365, Lync etc! But great deal of benefit will have developers at the first place and after all, end users through great new apps

i think MS have done a great job in finally creating a simple user friendly mobile OS... and the best of all it do not hang or lag...

I actually really like the cloud based services, and there was once a time I hated them. The convenience is just so remarkable that I don't think anything else can come close. I remember a time when I thought the bluetooth sync was the greatest thing that happened to my WinMo device because it took me away from a USB cable... Then I was given an exchange access and my life changed forever lol... I don't think I ever want direct sync again... The cloud has become my home.

Again, most of you fail to realize that implementing HTML5 and Silverlight are Microsoft projects. Flash on the other hand is an Adobe project, one they would need to code and supply for the OS. As much as I'd like to have it, it isn't a deal breaker to be completely honest, and I hope that HTML5 has caught on a lot more by then... I already read somewhere that Flash 10.2 is coming to our phones 'soon.'
Yeah I think within a year of its initial crippled released WP7 will shape to be a very good mobile os. The signs are good so far but all MS needs to do is relate and communite with their user base better.

Well done, MS

MS came through on the usability and quality of WP7 at last. The NoDo update made my Samsung Focus the supreme phone in my collection. Yeah, yeah...I know WP7 still lacks the usual features. But I'm loving the experience with my Focus so much I really don't miss them. It helps to have other phones that have those missing features
The Focus is supreme and WP7 is now supreme. They are both working pretty much flawlessly. The market loads and scrolls effortlessly now. I think it's even better than the Android market for functionality. It does quite often put me back at the top of a category after I install an app, though. But it is most certainly free of the frustration inducing loading and scroll-freezing. And I have yet to experience a market freeze-up.
I must agree, while it is missing some small feature atm. What it does, it does very well. Now that I got full GPS, only real thing I need is for Adobe to finally make Flash support & full Multitasking that's in Mango when it comes. Just wish that update wasn't so far away.

Not really. I got the NoDo/firmware update as soon as it was released. I've just been using my phone long enough to appraise it as what I described. I have had the habit of speaking a bit too soon about something and then it falls apart. Not so with WP7 this time around.
Only 2 things I miss would be sending/uploading a vid& flash support....Still like it better than my EVO 4G

I agree wholeheartedly in all aspects but one (and it really has nothing to do with MS, but the Focus). Samsung is BY FAR the most pathetic hardware manufacturer in the WP7 game with respect to creating useful value-added apps for their marketplace. And even when the DO come with something good, they pull it a month later.
Look at the amazing apps that HTC (YouTube, etc) and LG (Pano camera add-on, voice-to-text, etc) have produced, and then look at the chaff in the Samsung Zone. There is no comparison.

Completely agree. Post-Nodo I'm really enjoying the experience - the phone was good but now it's great.
The only things I am personally missing from my old iPhone 4 are psuedo-multitasking and good IM clients. Otherwise the experience with WP7 / Xbox / Zune Pass is fantastic
I am also happy with my WP7 experience. But c&p phone numbers would be lovly, as well internet speed up on my Omnia 7. Its redicilous slow atm. Flash or decent you tube app and flashlight would also make my day. Wish MS could include a flashlight as standard, really annoying.

There are several YouTube apps to choose from. I for one use Lazytube, which is really great imho. You can also find loads of flashlights on the marketplace. Don't know whether they use the LEDs or not, since I have an HD7 with HTC flashlight and thus have no need for any 3rd party app.

To be honest I think they will be pulling out all the stops to ensure they release mango by end of October or early November.
1. To introduce new handsets for the Christmas period with the brand spanking new OS.
2. Because of iOS 5 looming on the horizon.
3. To keep a consistent timeline going like Apple. Launch was November.
And if they are not then this will be a failure for them. Nokia also should be trying at all costs to push out a Windows Phone for fall too.
i agree with OP.... MS did it this time with the mobile OS...

I know this very well. Because next year, WP7 is going to compete not with iOS 5, but with iOS 6. And with Ice Cream Sandwich. So MS should think straight and have some cards hidden in the sleeves, because Tango may be fine, but they need Apollo since this year, and Mango since LAST year.
Even more now with "Googlerola".

Mango is already out there. And to be honest, I dont think it was a mistaken leak. I think Microsoft intentionally leaked it. Anyone can install, like Apple jailbreak. You can just go ahead and read some tutorials. It's no hard.
Right now, I have mango, in Portuguese, running perfectly smooth. I don't need to use third party apps to Facebook, MSN, Twitter, LinkedIn. And most importand than have their own apps, it's integrated with the system and working better than any iOS/Android app would do.
It doesnt have customizations indeed, but who cares? Thread message is sexy, notifications are pretty nice, though it have some flaws. The keyboard is LOT better than Android's, even if its not swype. Tiles simply rocks, fast app switch could be better, but its better than Android too.
The user experience is a lot better overall.

I count all of these features and they are still less than 100. It is still far from 500.
Most of the features are ones we do not see. Bug fixes, API updates, developer hooks and plug-ins, tons of stuff that we cannot physically touch or play with. That is until a developer takes advantage of the new features.
Once Mango comes out, you'll see much better apps on the platform, ones that are able to take advantage of many of 500 new features that Windows Phone Mango brings.
And that haters continue to hate for the sake of hating. Would you rather support the socially irresponsible company that makes overpriced under spec'd hardware and makes record profits while making NO charitable donations or even trying to help people in need, even those hurt in their own factories?!

that's politics. Your statement contains absolutely no content. You can easily replace MS with any other competitor and WP7 or Mango with any other OS.
what important functions?
what expectations?
many people? what does that mean? there are many people who don't like Android or iOS
if you want to make a statement then you need to use some facts. If you can't do that then you need to research. Otherwise I have to say that your post is off topic. Look at other posts in this thread in which the posters actually contributed something to the topic and the original post.

Microsoft officially closes deal on Skype...but where is the WP7 Skype App?

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2394671,00.asp
So how is it possible for Microsoft to have now owned Skype but other platforms have the app and we WP7 users don't have it yet? Does anyone know when this will be released for WP7.5?

It just closed. Meaning up until yesterday, they were separate companies. And up until last week, for anti-trust reasons, they were not allowed to work together on anything.

If people are really wondering why the "haters" keep coming here to "bash" WP7, it is largely because of posts like the one I have quoted here, and the attendant fanatical attitude of people who agree with it.
Calling people who have different tastes, preferences, and perspectives "stupid and idiotic" invalidates anything else you might be trying to say.
MS will probably release this as an update via Zune. Carriers will take 5 months to test it. It will take another 5 months before everyone gets it.

This post is just plain stupid and idiotic at best.
It's coming.... It's possible that the app that Skype planned was retooled/re-planned by a new Microsoft lead team..... I believe it WILL be here before the years end........... And I believe it's going to top anything the competition has to offer.......
Look at the new batch of windows phones getting ready to release or have been released.. They have FFC's and surely that's for something major such as Skype and not just some little OEM app such as the Samsung one....
Then in either the Tango or Apollo update, I believe it's going to be INTEGRATED into the OS.....
Hi, I asked this question to them via Twitter, they offcially said, It will do come in fall, which mean, with the ref website they officially provided to find what date is "the start of Winter", before 22nd December, 2011.
Hope it will help
I assume it will be in Apollo, tango 1 &2 will be simple updates .. nothing major will be present in those ( few languages , minor bug fixes )

And that's something that could be really tasty - Skype chat integrated into messaging with SMS/WLM/FB, updated contact cards allowing Skype calls, etc.
An app in the Marketplace this fall would fill the gap, of course, but real stuff won't come before a next major update.
Skype 'text' chat
I would appreciate just Skype 'text' Chat to start with. At least some form of interaction with your current Skype contacts would then be possible.
I'd be fine with an app right now, with deep integration further down the line.
Like Facebook or Twitter for instance

through the wait, just get free IM+ for skype chat
Yeah, an app in the interim to be able to make and receive skype calls would be great, as I'm prepared to wait for proper integration such as there is in Mango with WLM and FBC - great work by the MS team, and to be honest, I didn't even realise at first that they were integrated into messaging now - loving it!
Not here because their sockets api sucks and any IM app has to go through ridiculous hoops for basic functionality. There's a reason why there are no good instant messaging apps on WP7.

After about a month of official Mango, was it really worth it?

Just an interesting topic that I wanted to discuss (I'm sure there have been similar topics). Please, keep the fanboyism to a minimal.. lets try not to argue too much.
So, it's been about a month since Mango was officially released. After the long wait, was it all it was hyped up to be?
In my opinion, yes.. but mainly no. Now, to start things off I should say I have a Focus and this is my first and only smartphone (have had it since March), but I've used others. So on to the topic. Mango, in my opinion, was a great update and brought many needed features. I'm currently left with a phone that runs great, rarely crashes, has a smooth UI, and just plain does its job well. But having used it now for a month, I practically already forget that I'm running mango. It seems like the exact same phone I've had for the past 6 months. Sure, they added some very nice features, but in my opinion nothing huge that I find myself constantly using.
The multi-tasking I find almost completely useless as it's not real multi-task. As developers need to make use of this rather than the phone itself.. and since WP7 developers are generally not too concerned with us, multi-tasking for now is almost non-existent. The only use I've found for this so far is an alarm app which prior to mango I'd been quite frustrated that I couldn't set an alarm and then actually use my phone. Now I can.. but this is something I only use about once a week anyway.
Then there were many other nice features.. the new search features, some better marketplace integration, facebook integration, voice to text. this was all stuff that i was thrilled to mess around with at first and have some fun with. but now, its all stuff that rarely gets used, and while nice to have, didn't really change my phone. I still feel mango, while incredibly polished, is just too far behind it's competitors.
so yes, my answer is kind of confusing. I have a phone that does what it's supposed to do brilliantly, but I don't know.. it's just kind of boring. maybe it's the lack of a good app marketplace, maybe it's just the kid in me. As of now, I feel like next March when I'm due for a new contract, I'll probably go android or iPhone. Now, this is not because I dislike my phone, but because I don't think any of the 3 are worthy of a continuing contract renewal. It just seems to me like each of the three are pretty deficient in once aspect or another. I think it'll be fun to just hop around and try out a different OS each time I get a new phone rather than be a fanboy and miss out on what others have to offer. I definitely think MS has the best base with their UI, but I think it'll be a few years til they're feature and app rich enough to truly be the all around best.
So, what do you guys think? Is mango still blowing you away, or do you find it like me to be just a few nice feature upgrades?
Also even though it was slightly off topic, how many of you switch to different OS's all the time? Do you find yourself more content that way?
Comparing to wp7.0, Mango is a definitely a huge improvement for me. Comparing to other competitors, it's different enough to be a viable option. It's suppose to be boring and does what it does. I think iOS is equally boring, probably more so with less integration, but it does have more apps (which you have to pay). Android is another matter, but because it's not boring and works on all kinds of hardware, it's also not as polished.
Right now I have 3 instances of the same SMS conversation running in the BG. Yep that is just some very intelligent muti tasking. With the way MS has done multitasking its almost useless. Before you'll know it you'll have sms, settings menu, wifi menu running in the BG. I mean seriously is the OS not wise enough to figure that 3 instances of the same conversations should probably not run at the same time? Very idiotic IMO.
Mango is a huge step forward for me, mainly for the ie9 improvements + the office 365 and skydrive integration
IF they fix the multitasking it will be worth while. But as of right now multitasking is complete garbage on wp7.
No. My android sim is throttled and without my DSL hooked up that has pretty much cemented just how much I use the vibrant over the hd7. There is still too much **** I need the second device for, apps, core is functionality, etc. Stuff like transit navigation is a godsend for me on android, and awol on wp7. I had to navigate a new city with Bing maps. Never again will I put myself in that situation. Battery life is also better o the vibrant, which is becoming increasingly important to me these days, since I'm finding myself away from a power source more and more.
Las night after one hour off the charger my hd7 showed 61% and one hour remaining. All I did was browse the web. No music, videos, games or any of that stuff. This phone fives worse battery life than the worse "4g" android phones out there.
alSo I'm so damn tired of misclicking copy when trying to select a word. Its a huge hit to the time it takes me to compose messages. The keyboard is also buggy and randomly closes down on me while typing, which can lead to misclicks and lost text in apps and web pages.
I really need to sim swap, but I'm way too lazy to uncase these devices at the moment :-(

yea I noticed it was useless instantly and its a non feature for me. Its not something I use or think about. Too bad hp couldn't release one full touch 4" WebOS device.
Not only that, but it makes no sense either. Users should be able
• my keyboard just closed down twice •
To exit apps and long press search should be voice command. Long press home to multitask. Long press back to exit an application. Its like they did it differently (and oddly) just to be different.
And they destroyed the contextual search button, which is laughable ad it wad one of wp7'd selling points.

I already have wp7 + android + ios. I'm already on them. No need to go back to anything as I use them all every single day heavily.
And you're a troll.
A bad one at that.

You're the troll, you constantly bash WP7 and continue to post about how you dislike it but refuse to ditch it. Wouldnt the sane thing to do be to just use the other OS's you have and prefer instead of constantly spreading negativity? And not sure about you, but I dont have any specific goals to accomplish regarding being a good or bad troll. Maybe I should buy an android device and go and constantly post in android forums how much I hate it, wait that would be trolling, wouldnt it?
What you did is flame baiting and trolling. Giving critiques that others disagree with is not trolling. Maybe that's hard for you to see. I thought it was obvious?
Only an idiot would spend $500+ on a device to bash it in a forum, but i guess that's your style. Im not going to validate you with any further responses. You aren't worth my time. I've already posted my on topic opinion in this thread.
Lol @ telling me to short sell my devices and stick to a certain one. Really, do you lack common sense or something, or are you just that desperate to see that people only get one side of the coin on this forum (which is stupid, and unfair). I'm still laughing at that part...

I dont think N8ter is a troll.
He just is not a fanboy, and like me, he uses three differente platforms, so he knows the good and bad of each one.
The bad, worse, the fatal flaw of WP7 for ME (I'm saying my OPINION), it the Multitask. Please, someone slap Belfiore in the face. I'm too far away, otherwise I would do it myself.
What kind of SMARTPHONE that limits the multitask for the last 5 instances lets the system take 3 of those instances to show the same app? "Oh, you could use the back button and close it". So I will have to control every app I open and close? That's not smart.
Worse than that, you have to reload the app each notification you have. Even if the app is in your memory. Oh, yeah! Everybody LOVES waiting. Especially with iOS and Android instant resuming EVERY app.
WP7 is not a system where you can chat with your friends if not by FB and MSN.
"So stop whining and buy an Android/iPhone." Yes, I could do that. But I sould my Nexus S and my iPhone 4 when I had the three, to stay with WP7. I love it. Like to use more than iPhone and even more than Android.
But it could be better, and that's why I'm whining. That non sense multitask makes me mad. And I'm really hoping MS fix that, because it's the best OS out there.
Yeah, I'm thinking Mango was more important for MS and potential customers than user current users. It definitely created a huge buzz for Windows phones and the more polished features make it more attractive for potential customers. But I really don't think it was worth all the obsessive update checking that I (and thousands of others) were doing for weeks leading up to the release.
And it's good to see that there are some non-fanboys here who can give honest criticisms but still use the device as well as others.
just out of curiousity, those of you who use multiple devices.. is it for separate personal/business or just separate plans so you can take advantage of the different OS's?
For me the best thing about Mango is that it finally fixed 3rd party notifications so now my tiles are live and are not just giant icons.
I don't use fb chat/msn because my battery can't take it for too long, twitter integration isn't as good as using a dedicated app, I rarely multitask because many developers haven't updated their apps yet and I'm used to hitting back to get out an app.
So in a nutshell I would answer no as the notification issue should/could have been fixed in a small update. Most importantly, Mango should really be about all these apps that where not possible before and here is the amazing list of worthy apps I downloaded thanks to Mango:
- WhatsApp

I hear a lot about WhatApp now that we have mango. what's so good about it? To me it just looks like a messaging app, but why not just use standard texting?

Hum... because it's free
Particularly great to message people abroad (text as well as picture messaging).

It's just free in the first year. Afterwards it's €1.99 per year. Which is almost nothing, at least in comparison to SMS.

gotcha. just downloaded it but it told me that none of my contacts have it. so its useless to me. plus it uses my data connection, which I have limited. So this doesn't appear to really benefit me. Oh well, interesting idea though.

+1
This is the one thing about mango that annoys me the most. I hate when i go into multitasking to go back into kik messenger only to find it has been knocked out by 4 pages of text messages lol.
Most people here have unlimited SMS and mms. Board express ate my longer post. I'm pissed.
Always, the thing that makes WhatsApp good is free chat and file transfer over data connections like WiFi. Its a boon for people who travel internationally.
I actually like Samsung ChatOn better than WhatsApp. I don't use WhatsApp because they charge iOS .99 and that's it, but want other platforms to pay a subscription. It just isn't fair
