WiFi tether

Hi I was just wondering what the best settings were for the WiFi tether app in my evo.

Have you actually gotten this to work? Are you using the one with the green wifi looking icon? I have gotten my laptop to connect, but not actually share the internet.

Ya i can connect but the internet is not working that's my problem also.

I read something, somewhere, that we may need to update or add a kernel. I'm not sure though.

I have had the same problem,all I done was download a different version of wifi tether,been working great

I tried Barnacle also, no luck.

try the pre7 versinon the latest version doesnt seem to work with the newest root. the pre7 one should

Of what? How do I get an older version?

Thank you...not to be a pain, but once I download it to my computer, what do I do? I think it has something to do with pushing...but I am awful with loading things onto my phone.

If you Google wireless tether for Android from your phones browser,then click the downloads link for the project hosting on Google code,you can download straight to your phone.There are a bunch of different versions and not all will work with all kernels.After downloading,your phone will ask if you want to install.I'm using the pre8 version with netarchy's 4.1.8 kernel on fresh 3.1.0.1 and it works fine.

Wifi tether app on aosp?

Has anyone been able to get the wireless tether for root users app to work with aosp? The stock tethering *works,* but has very limited functionality. I emailed the dev and he told me to try the latest version, available here. http://tinyurl.com/bj9lyv
This has a lot of new features including a profile for our device, but it still doesn't work for me.
Has anyone had any luck with this?

Ah sweet I'll try that out, is supersonic nightly a sense rom? Or was he just sharing which aosp flavor he uses?

what aosp are u using, i have all of them in the link in my sig and all the kernels. if you dl a wireless tether app on an aosp with built in free wifi tether then you will mess up the built in wifi tether and the app will not work or the built in will slow down. you would have to wipe everything and reflash it again. then try the built in wifi tether and it should work perfect. if you have any questions feel free to ask them in the link in my sig

The built in works, it just doesn't have the functionality of the wireless tether app. I really would like to have it working .. I haven't tried the above method actually, sorry haven't had time

So i'm conflicted.

For some reason on GB I am unable to download roms on my phone but I can have a functioning tether. But on ics its the total opposite. I have no Internet at home due to lack of funds but my girlfriend want to do her usual Facebook browsing on the computer.
Is there any wifi tether apps that you would suggest or is there an ics rom that I may have overlooked that has it working?

search the market wireless thether u need root

Sprint Hotspot works flawlessly on the Blu Kuban ICS rom. Haven't had it working on any others yet.

Seems to me the answer is to fix your gb roms. My issue with downloads on gb roms has been one of two things ; need to download "download all" app from market or move/delete files from download folder to make room.

On ics there is wifi tether for root users, get from market. Just set device to galaxy nexus cdma and it works great for 4g tether.
On gb foxfi works well

I know that they have one it just wasn't working properly for me.why would you want to set it for the galaxy nexus?

Because that's the setting that makes it work with our phone. Don't think too much into it just set it and forget it

Blu Kuban has great wifi tethering

How to get wifi tethering to work on 4.2.2

So I've tried 2 different aosp roms, MiBox 1.20 and IllusionRom, and I can't seem to get wifi tethering to work on either rom. It works just fine for me on touchwiz. I tried using the hotspot built into the rom and ive tried treve mod wifi tether app and neither work.. Does anyone know how to get it to work? Thanks.

If I remember correctly, it states in the OP of both of these that this is an issue. It is an issues with most AOSP ROMs.

WiFi tether works fine if you edit build.prop with for example ROM toolbox from market and edit it and add
ro.ril.transmitpower=true
Then save and reboot and built in WiFi tether should be working fine...
If your build.prop doesn't have that line to add then add it and you should have it working right...

Have you tried yet adding
ro.ril.transmitpower=true
To your build.prop and check if the build in tether hotspot works?
Works fine for me and I always add that to get it working...I forgot were I got it from but it works

I've been trying to get wifi tether working with no luck so far.
I tried adding the ro.ril.transmitpower=true
I tried downloading a beta build of the wifi tether app (3.2 pre2)
I tried it with mms clamping and routing fix on and off.
The best i can get is i see the hotspot show up on the available networks, but when i try to connect it either gets as far as getting an IP address and then just keeps re-trying that (the app shows a device connected) or if i have encryption enabled, it doesn't seem to get past authenticating.
Some of the combinations i tried the network doesn't even show up under the list of available networks.
Can anyone offer some advice on how to get the wifi tether working? I'm using a sprint evo 4lte, with the viper rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124391

I'm using Liquid Smooth and have not had any issues tethering, do a back up and give it a try.

I'm not quiet ready yet to try totall resetting the phone and installing a new rom. I'm still hoping there's something i can tweak somewhere to get this working without having to go that far.

Tethering

Ok first off I've researched and studied this to hell and posting is my last resort. I'm rooted, use vpn shields, have tried several top rated tethering apps from the play store and a proxy. None work, once I try to load a website on my PC the t mobile web page pops up about tethering and such, I am unable to tether. Anyone with suggestions?

in order to have Tethering work, you MUST Flash the Kernel with a "Tweaked" version that allows Wifi Tether.
the file I got downloaded, I forgot where from is named, SetUIDRestrictRemovedKernel.zip
If you do a google search using the filename I provided above, It should be the second choice. ( I just did the search)

i dont think this is true.. i am on stock mdl that i rooted and debloated myself and stock kernel etc.. i just tried tethering last night and it worked fine.. maybe becuase i removed allthe know crap..??

if you're using the included Tethering app it works right out of the box! It's the "Trev_E_Mod" tethering and others that are not possible to enable without the Kernel patch......

Ya it seems all the custom roms I tried I could not for the life of me get wifi tethering to work. I had to go back to stock TW for M919 and now it works perfectly. I wish I heard about the tweaked kernel before. Will try the tweaked kernel when I get an itch to flash something new hopefully 4.4 real soon!
