So installing a zagg shield like I have done countless of times, spray shield lightly, install shield, squeegee out bubbles... Phone turned on and booted fine, and than the screen went crazy.
The water indicator at the bottom of the phone does show a slight water mark, so I am out of luck in that department... what's the best way to go about getting a new one? I know sprint does not cover water damage, but with the 7$ insurance can't you just pay a 50$ deductible?
Be careful around water with this thing, my Nexus one and Mytouch never had a issue when installing a shield or getting caught out in a slight rain drizzle.
Anthony
I think the insurance deductible for evo is $150. You can try returning it and say it was doa. They may not check it since you just got it.
Sorry to hear yours got water damaged. I just got the sprint insurance on my evo. But what you're saying is that sprint insurance doesn't cover water damage...correct?
If that's the case since I bought my evo off of ebay, I'm going to buy the squaretrade insurance also.i think they cover water damage.

Insurance covers anything. Warranty does not cover water damage.
Guess I'll run by sprint tomorrow and see what they say....
I think the deductible is actually 100$, but... either way I'll find out tomorrow.
Still can't believe that slight amount of water did that though, I figured it would be sealed up tighter.
Did u squeegiethe water towards the earpieceor what? I don't see how this could happen......
TAKE OUT THE BATTERY NOW. Then put it and the battery in rice for 24 hours and then try it. If it doesn't work then you broke it by leaving the battery in thus far. You can go back and complain and they might give u another for free. Otherwise you have to pay the insurance.

Heh, that was the first thing I did... It's been in the rice ever sense.
Going to try it in the morning and see what happens. If it doesn't work I'll go to sprint and pay the 100$ something, and get a new one. Sucks though for sure.

Sprint really took some liberties with the placement of the water damage indicator. It couldn't be any closer to the edge of the battery door without physically being outside the case itself. I managed to get a droplet of water on it already when I was applying my invisible shield so my warranty is essentially shot. Thank goodness I put TEP on immediately after purchasing the phone.
You are supposed to let your phone dry for 24 hrs (if not at least half that). Why would you power it up immediately after applying it is beyond me...

So the water sensors are those small checkered striped things?

You did that by putting the Zagg on? I ordered one of those half price on Monday. I've had them for my iPhones, iPads etc. But for some strange reason I'm having second thoughts about putting it on this phone.
Obviously something was done incorrectly here. The sticker on the bottom of the battery is not a water indicator...mine was red out of the box.
No, it wasn't dredge. It was crosshatched red & white, it looks semi-pinkish. When it gets wet, it's a DEEP red color, can't be ignored.

i just noticed my sensor under battery is pink with red checkers...am i screwed
think with me for a moment, couldn't you cover the wet strip with a small paper cut out and then put some of the cut out self laminate over the whole strip? if these are that temperamental to water such as an invisible shield prep spray then this might be worth doing. ive never done it nore have i seen EVO's strip im just throwing ideas out there.
Zagg good for laptop and ipad type of things I had it on mi iphone and
last me two months or so had it on my hd2 same thing guess carrying it around in your hand make the product stretching or something corners where were perfect starts to peal that's on cellphones

So today I dropped my phone and it ended up cracking the screen, but only in the inside part under the actual glass and I do not have any touch screen or anything on the screen minus a small corner visible with light. I had rooted it a couple of days ago and I want to know what I can do to revert back to stock rom so that I can send it in and get a new one. I used odin to flash recovery.
Also since the screen doesn't work at all, will they even bother to check the phone? Any replies would be appreciated ASAP, I need a phone and I want to get a new one soon but not void my warranty.
If you can get into recovery and move the volume/power keys just download and flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18857955
and you should be good to go.
This phone is a BEAST!
Just a warning, if you send it in and they find physical damage, they will charge you 400+ dollars. If you have insurance, it's probably just better off filing for that.
Did it have a case on?

And doing things like this just drives prices higher. Don't try to cheat the system... grow up and take some responsibility.

Yes file for damage... you damaged it. That's why you have the insurance.
Sigh.. reading about this scares me because I didn't get a device protection plan .
I better take good care of my phone.

yes I am about to file for damage, I called tmobile and they gave me a number I can call and file so that I can get a replacement.
Bummer man!
Can you describe more about how it fell/cracked.
I thought this was gorilla glass? seems more like monkey. Was it really a ARRRGGHHH [email protected]#$ drop that you kind of knew it was bad news or just like a slip to the floor fall that you would have expected it to survive?
Just trying to see how not so CHEVY tough (built like a rock) this thing is, so I can increase my carefullness!

how is he trying to cheat the system. rooted or not if he tries to return his phone they will laugh at him. hopefully everyone who has a high end phones has insurance so doing stupid things isn't cheating either. I can pee on my phone call them up tell them I accidentally pissed all over my phone and now its water damaged and I'll get a new one as long as I pay them my deductible
Lol dude I cheated the system, I dropped my phone, the vibrating stopped working, and they gave me another one no questions asked!

Well if you read what he said... The gorillla glass did not break. It was the lcd under the glass that broke
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
That is correct, the glass did not break at all it was the lcd underneath the glass.
And how I dropped it, I was stepping out of my truck and it was raining so i went to put my phone in my side coat pocket so it didn't get wet and it slipped out of my hands and fell on the right side edge were the power button is and it fell and hit the pavement. Then when I tried to turn it on it was a no go.
Oh well ill be getting a new one here soon... also I went to tmobile and bought a d30 case which I was planning on buying the next day on my day off before I could drop the phone, well.... too late huh.
the screen broke. I don't know what part of it broke exactly though. it was in an otterbox and i want to cry haha, but the outside of the phone looks perfect and the gorilla glass is still in one piece, but below it you can barely see a crack going from the top to the bottom. The phone still works cause i still get text messages and everything sounds correct, but nothing on the screen turns on any more. It just stays black. What's the best/cheapest way to fix it? should i just sell it broken on ebay and buy another phone? What should I do?
Thanks!

Honestly insurance is the best way to go if you have it on the phone. The phone requires you heat the front of the glass carefully to remove the digitizer and that gets pretty much destroyed after doing it. There is glue bonding it together. If you were able to get that off cleanly you can get to the LCD which seems to have gotten damaged from what you're saying, which can be bought online like ebay and such. Good luck to you.
i would try insurance but for about $200 you can get the screen and bezel in one piece and change it pretty easily. I would not go the route of trying to change the glass and lcd. it is way too messy.

You probably could fix it for yourself for like 30 bucks seen people do it on youtube
sounds like exactly what happened to mine ... I feel your pain .
may I suggest contacting your local Samsung repair center and asking them what your options are .
You might just get lucky like I did and they fixed mine for free .... no guarantee but it doesn't hurt to try .

I have had my Note 2 for almost 3 weeks now. A couple of days ago I was putting on the new screen and back protectors I got. You need to take the battery cover over to install..
So after finishing up, I snap the battery cover on and WTF?? The screen is cracked in the upper right corner!!?? Has anyone else run into this?
We took it to US Cellular and they say its not a manufacturer defect and will cost $100 to have it fixed.
This is BS!! I did not drop it, squeeze it hard or anything. I would be the first to admit if I had done anything wrong!
I have not contacted Samsung yet, I am trying to get more info if any others have had this problem...
Wow, you joined in 2009 and this is your first post!
On topic. Sorry that has happened to you. I can relate to the feeling of something deffective just few days after you've purchased it. I have never seen that happening to any of my devices or those devices of my friends' and relatives'...
Really weird. But one fear I have is to have the phone in my pocket and bending down to do something tightening the fabric on the pants around the upper leg area enough to bend the screen and shatter it...

Seriously... only a hundred dollars to repair?... can you please tell me where/who is doing that?. I dropped my phone and had a much more catastrophic screen shatter, everywhere I looked, it was going to be in the 270/300 dollar region for a repair - 100$ would be a really good price for repair.

do you have a picture of the damaged glass?
why take the extra step to take off the battery cover to install screen protector? used to have el-cheapo back covers, and currently using capdase bodifender and there was no need to take out the battery cover. plus the itsy bitsy plastic cover and its tips should not do damage on the glass screen unless it's defective to begin with since you said you didn't squeeze it hard when putting the covers back on.

I have insurance on the phone through US Cellular...thats what they quoted me.
But still its the principle, I feel its a manufacturer defect or it was stressed to begin with since the glass was installed..

You have to take the battery out since you need to use a bit of soapy water...they were cheap! $4 each on amazon with free shipping! :good
No pictures yet..:and no I didn't squeeze it when putting covers on..I did my GF phone the same way and no problems with hers. Definately a manufacturer defect. I will go in there Saturday when its very busy and raise a stink!!
Mine dropped from two feet and hairline cracked across the whole screen. I bought the full assembly LCD/digitizer. Did the repair per LE55ONS. AOK now. afterwards, I tried to pry apart the digitizer glass. In my Note II it is bonded with transparent gum covering the entire LCD. No way to replace only the digitizer on my version of the Note II
Why suddenly sooooooo....many thread about glass break in just differrent few minute of post?? Lol :banghead:

update!!
Well after many months of screwing around and taking to facebook and twitter about their poor quality and poor customer service, the "office of the president" of Samsung stepped up to the plate and fixed my Note 2 free of charge!!
It pains me to even talk about this but... This morning I dropped my six day old G3 on to an escalator step (you know the kind, sharp and metal:crying. The phone itself is working and screen is unscathed (phew!), however the plastic bezel/bumper (?) that goes around the screen on the side of the phone has cracked on the bottom left corner and scuffed on the top left.
I know it's early days still, but does anyone know of where there might be spare parts available? Or should I just cry myself to sleep and stay at home forever...
(To rub it in, I had a shiny new official "Slim Hard Case" waiting in my mailbox this evening. FML)
Any chance you had a warranty?

I have warranty but that doesn't cover my own accidental damage. I do have home insurance that covers things like this but I'd rather not go down that route just yet as it would involve reformatting the phone, sending it back, buying a new one, reinstalling everything and so on...

Lol, I've done the same, dropped it on concrete a couple of times and the edges are dinged up. Short pockets + Huge phone are not good. If you cant find phone parts on chinese websites *ali*, you might have to wait a couple months for them to be released.
it would also be not to your advantage to claim home owners insurance on your phone.. it could hurt down the road.
Sorry for your phone trauma :crying:
I only have the G3 because of a similar incident with my S4 which managed to destroy the digitizer.
Did you buy it with a credit card? Most cards give free insurance for up to 90 days! Just call and ask.
Won't the case cover that part? It might hurt resale value but if you can't see it, no biggie.
You think that is sad...
I dropped my LG g3 and it hit the concrete. I wish it had only scratched the back or dinged the bezel.
the screen only recognizes touch on about the bottom two thirds of it.
I do have a SquareTrade warranty so we will see how their claims process works.

My phone was out of its case, and it fell 3 stories (I live on a hill with a small creek behind it and it tumbled town onto the rocks) so once it fell I knew it was going to be a bad day. Thankfully I now have a new one, but life happens, I'm just glad I had ADH on my warrantee through them.
