I want to root my Desire but an error message appears : "Validation error, backup CID is missing"
I have no idea about this problem.

Any help appreciated
First you need to root using unrevoked, when that is successful you can use alpharev.
Also make sure you READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. It's all there.

that is what i tried
Use unrevoked, not unrevoked forever.
used unrevoked 3
DId you installed The hboot drivers correctly?
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
Try this version of unrevoked 3:
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/recovery/3.21/reflash_package.exe
Is USB-Debug-Mode on while trying to root your Desire with unrevoked?
Do you have set the usb-connection-mode on "only charge" and "never ask"?
Do you try to root with windows or linux?
For windows: uninstalled HTC Sync (not the Drivers) and rebooted your computer after this?
Still have problems? Try to root with superoneclick:

Mission accomplished! HTC Desire Rooted.
Thankyou to the people who gave me all the advice
I want to root my HTC Desire with the 2.3.3. Froyo HTC Stock Rom.
But I can't get passed the unrevoked root proces.
It keeps saying that my firmware is to new.
Code:
error failed to get root is your firmware too new
I tried the older version of unrevoked 3.21 but that does not work either.
My HTC Desire has the following versions:
-Revolutionary-

Now I had my Desire rooted till I installed the HTC Froyo Rom.
And for some reason I can not get my nandroid back up working either since I get the error: E:Can't mount /sdcard
So I can not get all my contacts and settings back either. So I have a feeling that my S-OFF is not working properly either.
But how do I root my Desire with the HTC Froyo Rom?
Thanks for your help

Use the revolutionary method: http://revolutionary.io gives you S-off first, then with flashing zip, you get root. Read the FAQ page.

I've searched the forums and the internet on the error I get.
And no useful results came up so I made a thread.
But what zip do I need to root then?
Since that is not described in the sticky here.
Also I can't get the command lines to work for my SD card problem.

Go to revolutionary.io, at the bottom of the page you find the link to the faq page, where in the middle you will find the zip to flash for root permission.

Try to flash the official GB update first and then try Rev method. Keep only the drivers installed after RUU update.
Hope that helps.

Greetings.
Have you tried downgrading your hboot to the ones Revolutionary supports?
ohai, me too.
Hi,
after years of reading and leeching, i had to register today.
I have the exact same problem, i received an old desire and felt like fiddling around with it.
BUT: the one i have is branded (vodafone) and has HBOOT 1.03
So, as far as i understood, i have to downgrade HBOOT to 1.02, then use revolutionary. So i read all them tutorials and tried all them things, but i can't create a GoldCard because the service is no longer available.
What do? Can someone help?

Have you tried the tutorial in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1564644
Also, what do you mean by "the service is no longer available"?

Tried that a few minutes ago, RUU can't complete the update. Probably because i have Vodafone branding?
I had to download the RUU from somewhere else than htcdev, because htcdev seems to be broken and won't let me DL the file.
