Slower wifi speeds. - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Does anyone else notice slower wifi speeds and higher ping when running the speed test app?
I'm paying for 20mbps but I'm getting 5mbps and 44ms ping.
Is it just me, or does everyone notice this?
My DX2 gets 24mbps and 9ms ping.

no problems... try and update your radio it might help....

Overclocked to 1.6ghz I can only pull about 15mbit. If I turn the clock down, the wifi speed goes down. This is a limitation of the hardware, not the network.
I have a 25mbit home internet connection. My other wifi devices (ie: netbook) pull the full 25mbit.

I actually noticed that my friend's Sensation pulls about the same as I do on the same wifi network. But his g2x actually pulls more than what I am paying for, which is 20mbit, he gets about 25mbit... Which made me really jelly.

Noticed something. If my friends g2x and my Dx2, and nimdae at a higher clock pull higher speeds, does this mean higher CPU output, better network speeds?
But then again his Sensation also pulls the same as I do and we're both unrooted and stock clocked.

The fact the speed increases with the higher clock means the phone is going as fast as it can possibly go given the resources it has. If you were limited to 5mbit, your phone would only be able to do 5mbit regardless of clock speed (unless you dump it really low, then it will be slower).
I looked up the G2x specs and it is running Tegra2, meaning it's a CortexA9 system. It doesn't surprise me that it can easily use the entire bandwidth available at just 20-25mbit. CortexA9, even in a single core configuration (why isn't anyone doing this?), is faster than CortexA8 and current Snapdragon platforms even at the same clock frequencies.
As for pulling higher than advertised speeds, this can happen due to a concept called burst, along with compression. My 25mbit connection can burst at 30+mbit (I've seen it hit 40mbit). Because the mobile app probably works with much smaller data sets, it could be possible to report burst speeds over streaming speeds.

Mflops vs iphone

So, I was hanging out with a friend of mine that has an iphone 4. I always make fun of him for having one and I heard that our phones hardware are much better, so I had him install an iphone version of linpack, and compare it to mine. I hit almost 18 mflops and shoved it in his face, then he shows me his and its 55?!?! Is the iphone on att really that strong?
Oh and we also compared a speed test, I am really sure he doesn't have 4G. On 3g, I scored just over 1,000 kbps on average in a full signal zone, whereas he scored 5500+ kbps. Wtf?! I turned on 4g and I hit 3,000 kbps and then he just sat there looking at me with that look...."you jave the inferior phone"....
I cried a little. How can the izombie...err...iphone 4 be so powerful?
P.S. In the speedtest, I made sure he turned wifi OFF before trying it, his status bar said 3G.

You can't compare benchmarks across seperate platforms or you wind up with skewed results. That test is a perfect example because iPhone and Galaxy S use almost the exact same processor but you wind up with drastically different results.
As for speed, the iPhone on 3g is using HSPA+ a.k.a ATT's 4g so that speed sounds about right.

Linpack for Android is fairly well know to be inaccurate, because it was made for 1st gen snapdragon SOCs . They routinely score ~40mflops while the Galaxy S and Droid X/2 which both have more powerful processors score < 20
Texted while driving
Good ole HSPA+ makes me wish my carrier didnt have WiMax. LOL
iPhone on ATT with a speed test can be very fast, if it can et through the test and not drop the signal. It is known that up until recently ATT had an overly subscribed voice and data network.
As for linpack and any benchmark, I challenge any benchmark software to create a software test that I cannot artificially inflate, I've done it in the data storage industry for years, benchmarks are all about beating the benchmark. The only usefulness of a benchmark is to test your own system against itself when you make changes, not for comparing platform to platform.
That's like my wife's evo blowing away the epic in linpack. It does but the evo is not faster than my epic.

[Q] TMobile G2 speeds suck in good data area?

I got a G2 (HTC Vision) a few days ago, and it was already rooted. I have no clue about rom development, kernels, etc for the G2 and was wondering why it was running so slow. Also under set cpu, what speed should I clock it to?
It is running 2.3.3 with the kernel 2.6.32.28-cyanogenmod-g4f4ee2e [email protected] #1
the rom i believe is cm7-htc vision, build number GRI40
Well am not using CM7 not a big fan but the devs are awesome. Anyways on setcpu put max to 1.5 GHZ and Min to 1 GHZ. Am not really sure why your g2 is slow. Maybe you can reflash the rom or maybe you have to many wigets/Apps running.

Having "too many apps" shouldn't affect your data speed nor should overclocking it do anything. Your data is WHAT it is, WHERE it is. For example, at home I get HSPDA (the H) and get a max of 1010 kb/s where as to the parking lot at my job, I can get an average of 1400kb/s. Which is a huge difference. Both are still fast (roughly 1mb/s to 1.4mb/s per second.. not to be confused with Mbits) It all depends on your location and the actual signal you get there. Just test it out a little around town or when you're out of town and you'll see. I suggest using speed test to get accurate results.

I certainly know that overclocking have nothing to do with it. But up until now, my area always give me a good 2.3mbps at most. I have gotten below 1mbps on my g2 so i raised the minimum cpu setting and got higher speeds. Thanks though.
Have you tried amazinglarry's superwipeg2+ yet.... helped me out

is that safe?

Safe but not very useful. Above 1 GHz the gains are negligible. I say setting the min at 1GHz is a little silly though. I can't see how he's getting good battery life with it constantly running that high.
Nah I don't really care about battery life my friend. Since I have 2 extra battery. Lol well that's just me

Data download speeds really differ stock vs. CM7?

I was running speedtest.net app on both mine and my fiancée's DInc and noticed how much better my d/l speeds are while in wifi mode. I was at 10,000kb and she was only getting around 3,500.
Does anyone know why this would be? Why would the stock ROM not allow me to download at the top speed possible? Is it a CM7 thing or this just a fluke? Anyway I just found it interesting
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I run CM7 and have noticed slow speeds the last few months, but have chalked it up to network traffic. I am not a big data user, and when I run speedtest in the morning speeds are much more reasonable. I also ran a different speed test website, and it was considerably different. I don't know if the app is that accurate.
Through the different Sense ROM's and CM7 versions I've used I can say I get the same results.
CM7 has faster 3G transfer rates and WiFi. Don't know why

[Q] Charter 100mb and Nexus...something not right??

Ok, I have charters 100mb service at home with has a Belkin N150 router hooked up to it...I do lots of speed tests and rarely will I get over 25mb on my speed tests...Usually between 20-25. Shouldn't I be getting alot more than that? I realize I loose some speed going thru the router, but that much? Is there anything I can do to improve? Does this sound normal to you guys? Many thanks
P.S. The speed test numbers are done from my galaxy nexus

Usually its just my phone and my galaxy 10.1 tab, but they are never online at the same time.
I read somewhere on here that the wifi on the GNexus is not that great and wasn't all that fast, the LTE is usually faster. I may be wrong.
Do you live in a large apartment building with extremely crowded wifi channels? I know that my Gnex gets about 7 Mbps (36 Cable connection) on 2.4 GHz because it's so crowded. When I switch the router to 5 GHz it gets about 34 Mbps because those channels are empty.
I have 35/35 fios that actually hits 42/30 on the every single computer and laptop at home. I have NEVER gotten higher then 29 on my phone and like the OP I usually only get 20-25. Buff McBig (great name btw) What do get on speedtest with your phone on wifi can you post a screen?

Apparently I exaggerated because I can only average 29 or 30 and max at 32. That is with 3 devices all samsung. The others are gtab 10.1 and sprint gs2. My transformer prime can't connect to 5ghz.

every mobbile device is basically limited by its hardware, memory/cpu and throughput bottleneck. you cant get much higher than 30Mbps on the nexus as it's hitting hardware limits due to a mobile device.
thru the generations speedtest results have gone up though.

High ping on HSPA+

Hello,
When I do a test with the SpeedTest app, it gives me fast speeds (10~20mbps), but very high ping. I'm getting 500~700ms ping from using this app to connect to a server that is only 2 km away. I have tried other servers and gotten the same results.
When I ping google.com, I'm getting an average of 300ms.
I live in NYC, and the cell tower is actually very close, according to OpenSignal app. I see others getting 30~60ms times on T-Mobile HSPA, so this seems out of the ordinary.
I get normal ping times when connected to wifi.
Anyone know what is causing this?
I get it too its nothing to worry about I think its just a bug and not accurate sometimes. Nothing to worry about.

I get it too. But I don't care b/c ping matters to me if I'm playing multiplayer games. I never play games on my S2 except on rare occasions. So long as I get my data, I am satisfied.

No idea about the speed test app, but I don't think pinging google would result in a glitch. It seems there is a delay in loading websites as well.
I even get lower ping on EDGE....

That's odd.. thought I set it to Mbps..
It's an order down, so 2000 kbps.
Maybe it's because of where you live. Ping is how long it takes to speak with the outside servers, heavy congestion higher ping.
I live outside of Orlando and get 50 or less. With about 20mbps do speeds and over 2 up...
