[Q] HTC Desire won't power up - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I have a SLCD PVT3 HTC Desire
S-OFF, HBOOT 0.93 Data++, InsertCoin 1.08 stable, 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23 radio
I was shooting a video with my phone, battery was about 40% when I started, I recorded maybe 5minutes. Then suddenly phone shutdown, I try to reboot, it won't so I suspect it just ran out of battery.
I put it on charger, orange led lights up and I go for a cigarette. Come back 10minutes after and I try to power on, it won't, orange led disappears and nothing happens.
I remove battery, try to boot=no work.
I remove battery, plug in ac charger, phone flashes green and orange led one after another and when I try to power on it won't.
I remove the charger cord and put battery back, try to power it, no work.
I plug in charger cord, orange led comes, I try to power it on, led disappears and phone will not boot.
Then I take charger cord off and remove battery and put battery back, and charger cord back, orange led comes.
I leave it there since it looks like it's charging, an hour or 1½ I come back and there is green led and I try to power on but to no avail.
vol down+power and back+power doesn't work.
So I can't get to fastboot/bootloader/recovery/or boot the phone.
And it doesn't even vibrate when I try to power it.
Is it totally dead?? Help?

Warranty still in place?
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk

Have you check the battery? the desire does not power up when there is no battery even when on plugged into AC. so it is possible for a faulty battery could make the phone not turn on and not charge.

Yeah, I do have warranty on this thing.
Since the phone won't even power up, is there a way the repair place is gonna find out that the phone is s-off, rooted and has custom rom on it and custom splash screen?
If I could even get the phone to fastboot I could undo all of that but blargh not even that.
Do you really think it would be the battery fault? :S
I don't have a spare battery so I can't try that.
When I connect the charger to the phone while the battery is in, the orange light comes up so it should be charging it.
I don't even have a multimeter to try and see if the battery is dead.

it is possibility that it could be the battery..or maybe even the charging circuitry on the phone. there is no way to say for sure. I am only offering a suggestion.
since you can't even get into the recovery or bootloader. this does not sound like a software issue

Only way is if your friend has desire, or you can buy my new battery, charged only once! Ha
But they probably won't even try and boot it and will probably change it.

Almost exact same thing happened to me. Desire died for no reason, and it was not the battery. HTC have no way of telling if your phone's rooted if it's dead (or I don't think so anyway), I just sent it off and they repaired it for me under warranty Good luck.

Okay, thanks for your input guys!
I'll be sending it to warranty on wednesday.

Hi all,
I have exactly the similar problem with my HTC Desire.
I do not think so it is a battery problem because when it died it has been already full powered 2 hours ago.
How long would it take to get your phone back from warranty?
Thanks and regards.

Completely forgot about this thread.
SCF Repair fixed my phone under warranty.
Yet again they replaced the mobo
I got the phone back sometime around august 25 or something like that.
Came back as PVT4
Also, after I had it for exactly 2weeks, put it in my pocket accidentally wrong way aka screen not against my thigh->boom slcd broken against table corner..
Shhhhhhhh.. argh.
Sat like 1hr on my ass cursing in my mind and occasionally aloud.
After that, I pulled it together D), inspected the damage and only slcd was broken the digitiser for some miracle was undamaged (huh?) ordered new slcd from uk-hitech, it arrived couple days ago.
Was about to start disassembling it, was staring at the void stickers for few seconds-> bah screw it and screeech scraped them off and continued. Took around 1hr10mins.
And as you can see:

Hi i have the same problem, i was listening to music when suddenly the phone froze i gave it a minuet to settle but no response, so i pulled the battery and pressed power and it turned on. it got stuck on the htc screen and was stuck their for good 5 minuets, so i pulled the battery again(intending to hard reset from clock work) but this time the phone does not power on at all! only orange led comes when i plug the phone on charge if i press power button the led goes off but the phone does not seem to come on at all. this happened to me when i was abroad few weeks ago, the odd thing was when it happened first time around i left it for like an hour and it turned on like nothing ever happened and worked since untill today. its been good 4 hours since it died =[. its still under warranty but its been s-off will HTC still repair it? did you find out what they repaired on your one ? incase HTC dont repair i can get third party store to repair it but id like to know what the cause is? and by the way the mother board was replaced by HTC before(it died after 2 days when i first bought it, this is the second mother board)

Stock G2 won't turn on

I have a stock Tmobile G2 that I have not rooted or done a thing too. I've been enjoying it just like it is.
Last night, I plugged it in at night and went to bed. This morning, the green LED was on saying it was fully charged, but it wouldn't power on? I finally pulled the battery and it powered on to the standard white HTC screen, but hung there for 5+ mins. I pulled the battery and again and I think the HTC screen came up again and hung again. After that battery pull, I could no longer get it to even power on.
Here's what I've noticed.
-After a battery pull and then plugging it in, I get an "orange" LED, but nothing happens. Can't power on, and it doesn't ever seem to turn green even after hours on the charger. When I remove the plug, the orange LED stays on and nothing happens.
- If I pull the battery and try to turn it on before plugging it , nothing happens, but in the same token, it won't show the orange LED if I plug it in.
The only thing different I did last night was that I used a Mini to Micro converter plug for the first time. I have a ton of Mini-USB plugs, so just ordered 2 of these. Could have been coincidence, but thought I would mention it.
My battery has been fine and has shown no issues of being bad, but wondering if they just crap out or something? The no charging LED after trying to turn it on is strange?
Any ideas?
Return it and call shenanigans?
That's really quite strange. Have you modded anything on the system that would affect it at all?
yeah, the hardware in your phone is simply broken. to make sure this is true, try doing a recovery. pull the battery, put it back in, hold the volume DOWN key, while hitting the power on button, use the volume rocker to go down to recovery, and then follow the instructions to recover the phone. but it sounds to me like water damage of some sort around the plug, or you pulled out the charger wrong and broke it. **this will remove all apps you have installed, but its better than having to wait for t-mo to send you a new one**

Haven't touched a thing on this phone. I have an older G1 I've played with ROM's on and stuff, but I've left the G2 alone.
Only thing is standard apps from the market.

Just tried the recovery, but nothing.
No water damage or anything. Phone has been well taken care of and looks new.
I guess its just a failure. Only had it a month or so. Guess I'll contact tmobile about a replacement.
These things happen, my original G1 died after about a week of use, though I would have expected that after a month you would be in the clear.

Yeah, kind of surprised myself. Electronics do fail though.

I'm on my 4th G2. The screen kept going out on two of them and the other one, all the apps were force closing on me. I almost gave up on this phone and went to a nexus s but I love the quality of this phone as in it don't feel or look cheap. Also I would have missed my hardware keyboard for my fat fingers lol. I was not going to get a mytouch 4g. Wanted to get as stock vanilla android as I could.
Just send it back and get a new one. Hopefully the next one won't give you these problems.

[Q] broken phone

hey guys,
my friend gave me his hdh to install roms on, it wasn't rooted or anything yet now last night it was low on battery (8-9%) and i putted it on charger and went to sleep next day when i woke up the charging led was on but the device was off and it didnt respond to anything, i cant turn it on and only response i get is when i plug it to ac and the led goes on and it stays on even when i unplug it, and it only goes off with removing the battery
so any way to fix this thing?
p.s: i havent done anything to it i was going to do it today so no software problem (at least i think)
If you haven changed any software then its got to be hardware related. Have to send back to HTC.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Yes its likely to be a hardware problem. But first, can you boot into the bootloader? Remove the battery and re-insert. Hold down the volume button and then while its still held down hold the power button. Keep both held for about 4 or 5 seconds at maximum. If nothing happened then its definitely a hardware problem. What is supposed to happen is a white screen come up with lots of options.
remove battery for few seconds, and insert again then try to charge
thanks for your answers, i have done all above, and i can't send it to htc because i live in an unsupported country, can there be any other way to fix it? i mean if the bootloader wont run so there is no hope??
is there any way to test the battery?
Where did your friend purchase the handset? As far as I know you may be able to use a multimeter to test the battery but I am unaware of what the readings should be. Or alternatively you can try to find another DHD and test it in that.
Which country do you live in?

[Q] Bricked phone or battery?

Hi,
So my girlfriend just got given a used HTC Desire by a friend last monday. It was locked to Orange. Like all android based devices in this house, the first thing I did was unlock all the various bits, flash a decent rom, update the radio etc. and all was working fine all week including the battery dying totally at least once.
On friday, she had to do a 22 mile charity bike cycle for work (chump) and after she got home, she spoke on the phone for a while. Then the battery died. Now it's foobarred.
When I put it on charge, light doesn't come on straight away (hinting usb-brick)
Eventually the light comes on and goes orange.
It then goes green
When I press the power button, the green light goes off and NOTHING happens.
I can't get it to connect to the PC at all.
But since I can't boot it, I can't get into recovery, I can't get the PC to see it so can't use ADB.
I've tried all sorts of combinations of removing the battery, leaving it charging for hours, leaving it with the battery, sim and microSD removed for hours and can't seem to get any life out of it.
The phone looks fine, the water indicators are all still white. My only ideas aside from some catastrophic failure on one of the boards is maybe it's the battery that's shorted itself or something. Does the Desire turn on at all when plugged in with a fudged battery?
Anyone else had a similar problem? Any ideas on how to fix it? Phone or battery?
I'm trying to hunt down someone with a HTC Desire at work so I can test their battery with it - is there any chance this phone could make an expensive paperweight from another battery too?
Thanks in advanced.
Hi.
Maybe the battery, in his last breath, overcharged some circuits and burnt them. But I hope not for you. If the red light/green light works, it means at least that some of the circuit is working so continue your chase and find yourself another battery for testing.
Try and test the battery with a multimeter just to be sure ! Also what about charger was it original htc one ?
Did you ever sort it out?

Did you got this solved? I've got myself a new phone (giveaway ) and gave my Desire to my wife. I could flash another hboot and back to cm7 without any issues, she configured her google acc etc and put it onto charger over night. But it didnt charged. On yesterday morning it then died cuz of empty battery and dont come back now...

HTC One X Wont Start

I have the international HTC One X (tegra 3) and its unlocked. The bootloader is unlocked, but no custom rom. I'm running jellybean i thing 4.2 something. I put my phone on charge last night and it was charging and all was merry, (red led was on). And I wake up and phone is completely dead. Nothing wrong with the charger, it worked on my trusty ol HTC Desire. I tried forcing a power cycle, but no luck. Tried to boot into bootloader, with power and vol down, but no luck. I took out the sim, but no luck. My phone was part of the original or one of the earliest batches, the ones which have the faulty connection to the wifi antenna (so you have to press on the back of the phone to get any wifi connection.) Could it be possible that the connection to the battery has also become faulty. (Either from me pressing to much on the back or yesterday i had some thread from my jeans stuck in the 3.5 mm jack that i cleared with a small pin, and I accidentally unplugged or broke something). TL;DR, My phone wont start, no power cycles, no charge, no bootloader. My carrier is o2 but that is irrelevant.

Have many battery where die on the first year. On my colleague in work they changed battery after 6 months because the phone don't want to charge. If you have warranty go back to stock and send it for rpair if you don't have warranty just try change your battery with One X+ because is 2100mAh and it is better.

HTC One X - Dead, no LED, no fastboot, nothing!

My friend gave me his HTC One X to fix (PJ46100) and he said it has been dead for months. After a few diagnostics, and about 30 mins on charge and 10 mins in my PC, it isn't connecting to the PC, I have no word from ADB, the phone itself has no LED light showing, no vibrations, nothing. My aim here is to get it on at LEAST in fastboot/recovery mode. I have never used a HTC One X but being addicted to my 4.3 Desire, I know how the usual HTC fastboot works. I know its power + volume down but is there any other way? I remember my Desire was Power + back button, EVEN though everyone online said it was Power + vol down.... Does the One X have another method?
My mate wants me to get his photos off it, and thats it, its mine
So yeah, any word on what it could be?
Doing loads of research, its a 70% chance of being a battery issue and a 30% chance of the board being dead.
I am not afraid of taking this baby apart so go ahead and ask your questions.
Thanks guys.
(BTW - I may be posting from another account in my replies....)
Hi there, I also have the same problem as yours. No led when charging, not detected by pc, its basically a paperweight. I also had done my research and I can conclude mine is a board issue since the problem occurred after transferring some files from pc and the battery is perfectly fine then. If you believe battery is the culprit, try put the phone in a sealed bag and put it in the freezer. It might bring the battery alive. I have took mine apart and I noticed that during charging, the board will be warm and same goes to the battery. This would suggest the phone is taking the current from the charger.
same problem here
I've revived dead phones where the only issue was that the battery had lost so much charge that it wouldn't charge via the phone's charging circuit e.g. Desire S and One V. Removing the battery and charging directly using another device solved it both times. Got to be worth a go. There's guides on removing/replacing the HOX battery on XDA. Just gotta go carefully!

Hi there dude.
I just replaced the battery, and yeah. Even without the charger, the board went warm for about 45 seconds. Charging does nothing, even with the new battery.
So I am guessing its the board.
Ouch.
This isn't even mine. My mate had this collecting dust since it broke about a year ago and he asked me to see if i fixed it.
His dad wanted some pictures off it, so I guess they are out of the picture (pun not intended, but eh.)
Anyway, do I buy ANY board or is there a special board for this model number?
eBay brings a few up when searching "HTC One X".
Cheers guys for the replies
I had tried charging the battery using the external charger and after connecting it to the board, it became warm and after few hours, it subside. I checked the battery and the voltage is 3v, the minimum discharge voltage. So i can say that the board suck the power and change it solely to heat. Is your htc one x tegra or snapdragon version?
