Voice to text issue with 2.3 Gingerbread. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, I was having the notorious "voice to text" issue with gingerbread. Not the Google Search issue. That was resolved by uninstalling then reinstalling the app.
I just flashed this mod from the MikMik.com forum. The " Stock_v2.3_HTC_IME_Revert-signed.zip". It instantly fixed the issue and haven't had any problems since. Both on my phone and my wife's.
Just thought I would share this for those of you that have had the same problems as me.

1. Boot into recovery.
2. Wiped cache & dalvik/cache.
3. Flashed zip from sdcard.
Put www in front of the link.

Thanks for the prompt response.....let me ask you...I've read that checking "Personalized Recongnition" in voice input settings will help or fix....have you tried that before...or know....???

I tried everything I could think of. As mentioned in the OP, the voice to text was an independent issue from the Google Search issue. So none of the Google Search solutions work for this problem.
I even unistalled then re-installed the voice search.apk. I noticed that the only time it didn't work was when I was using the keyboard then pressed the voice button. That is what gave me the idea of using a keyboard mod.

Thanks again for the response, advice and tips....I did download and flash the mod....and sorry to say no real difference...other than my only keyboard choice now is the sywipe....which is OK...it works perfectly at home, office and modest sound, but did not work today in the car....not at all...did work when I stopped, like at a light....my main use of the voice to text was "texting or emailing while driving"...ha-ha....apparently I shouldn't do that anyway.....I suppose a "real" fix like a modified mod will come along...by the way I have a Sprint EVO that's rooted with the latest Fresh Rom...hardware version 0003...

I may point out....to give light on this....muted mic background noise theory......I have a blueAnt bluetooth headset with "noise cancellation high" as an option.....in the car, the voice to text works OK with my blueant on....meaning...the"mic" doesn't hear the background noise....the new fancy bluetooth ear pieces work pretty good...

Anyone having issuse with Voice Search and Gingerbread OTA?

I have tried the OTA Gingerbread in several forms but I cannot get the Voice Search to work on any of them! I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Voice Search but no luck. Anyone else having issues with this?

I have problems with voice search in that it will not work if there is any background noise (like in my truck). I tried several things and finally gave up (for now) and am using vlingo.
I can confirm this to be an issue on mine as well.
Incredible -> S-OFF -> Updated from .2 to .3
Getting NO response whatsoever, have to practically yell at my phone.
Ive been getting this a lot as well sometimes it will only pickup parts of my voice but usually nothing at all. I deliver pizza as a side job. Having to type every address is a pain in the ass.

Bump. Me too... Icant remember when it used to work or on what rom, but somewhere along the way it stopped hearing me unless it was completely quiet. I thought maybe it was was the key board, but switching back to the stock keyboard didn't really help either.

"Say Google" removed?

When launching google now, yesterday I could either type in the search, or click on the mic and start talking OR saying "Google" and the phone will automatically start hearing my search inquiry.
Today, it seems that "Say Google" is completely removed? I haven't done any updates, what's going on?
Anyone facing this problem or know how might I get the "say Google" back?
As far as I know, it only works if Google Now is open...
it doesn't work from the home screen or other places.
I know that it only works for US English. Ensure that you are in fact on US English for your language.
I understand that, the problem is, it's even removed from there! The settings is also removed !
Please guys check your phones to confirm.
PS: The language is English(US), check 2nd picture

A lot of people reported many problems with Google Now being fixed once you download the offline engine. You try that?
mine are also gone. i never tried pressing the voice button when starting google now but this time there is not even an option that instruct us to say google now anymore. on 4.1 it was there. 4.1.1 has none.
I still have the option to say "Google" and it works just fine.
Yep, me too. Still able to say Google on US English that is (it sucks how UK English lacks features).
Did you perhaps turn it off?? It's under settings in Google now.

I have the same issue as OP.
I'm running Android Revolution HD 5.0.1, but the same thing happened with AOSP JB. When I flashed it I could say 'Google' in Google Now but some time after getting the phone set up I lost that ability. I've also lost the 'Hot word' menu option in the Google Now->Voice settings.Everything is Default US English. And I have the offline engine downloaded and I can still tap the microphone icon to voice search.
Weird thing is: I was showing it off to a few friends in a restaurant last night and it was working again. Now this morning, it's gone again.

hi guys, im the OP. just want to say, the problem is solved.
I simply rebooted the phone and it magically reappeared. I didn't touch anything. This is very weird.
I think it has to do with the language selection right inside Google Now's settings under Voice.
If you tap on English it gives you the various types of English to choose from.
When I select "English Canada" the ability to say "Google" is missing.
However if I specifically select "English US" it reappears instantly.

I tried all English version available. No luck. Well of course, as a heavy flashers, I rebooted many times.

I just want to say that it's randomly getting removed after a while and I hard reboot will sometime bring it back. I have no reason why this is happening, if anyone has a clue, please share.
hey guys I just found out, after I reboot everything works fine, the "say google" is there, but lightflow doesn't work. However, after I went into accessibility and turn light flow off and on again (it was on) lightflow works again, but the "say google" disappears.
yea, check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778659
Light Flow is probably causing the problem

[Q] Voice apps other than S-Voice not working over bluetooth

I have been searching everywhere and have not found a solution to this, so I apologize if I missed it somewhere. As I've learned and have read from others, S-Voice is crap! Google Now is much MUCH better at voice recognition, particularly with names. The problem is, over bluetooth, my voice commands are only picked up by S-Voice. Google Now gets stuck at the "Initializing" then says "Didn't catch that" and closes. I've gotten it to intermittently work with Utter!, but I can't rely on that. Google Now works great over headphones or from the phone itself. It's just over Bluetooth when it doesn't work. After researching I'm almost convinced Samsung (or Vlingo) set it up that way; it's as if the mic is disabled with any app other than S-Voice. My question is, has anyone figured out how to get Google Now, or any other voice app for that matter, to be recognized over bluetooth?
I'm running stock JB with root (fyi, this was going on before I rooted). I know it'll probably work just fine if I flashed CM10, but I actually like the setup I have.
Edit: After looking more, I found this thread. I tested out turning off the "Media Audio" and Google Now works, but in further investigating when I click the button on my bluetooth, it's the voice dialer that pops up and that is what doesn't work, not Google Now. I can't see, to figure out how to get Google Now to show up and not voice dialer.
Edit 2: I forgot to mention I'm using a Motorola Roadster bluetooth speaker, but I don't think that's the problem.
Same issue here. Exists on every rom I try. Bluetooth in general is buggy as heel on the S3. It's really disappointing. I don't see many answers here on XDA...
Same here and I am on a new s2 ROM sbean v12 any fix would be great

Hello,
perhaps it'll be some similar problem like that, I've posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096446
My workaround to install two voices of different developers solved my problem with my dumb OneX.
Now it speaks to me fortunately.
Good luck

Thanks for the info :good:
I'll try that.. at some point, see if it fixes the problem for me.
Although i've also just noticed (yesterday evening) that the little mic icon has disappeared from my keyboard!
Apparently they both need an internet connection to work.. although i DO have a good connection (wi-fi & 3G)
The mic icon DID re-appear this morning as i began to type out an email, but disappeared as i was typing?!?
It's normally over the fullstop..
*edit*
Ha Ha! typical..
Just tried google search, and it's working again.. she just told me that tomorrow morning will be cold
Also the mic icon is back on the keyboard :victory: .. for how long i don't know though
It was a google problem

[Q] Launch Google Now voice search with Bluetooth headset button

Hello All,
I have searched, and searched to no avail. I have a Jawbone Era bluetooth headset and I would like to launch Google Now instead of S-voice when I push the headset button. I have tried bluetooth launch and it did not work. I am non-rooted and would like to stay that way if possible. Any suggestions? Thanks.

disable s voice from the app section of settings... it won't give you google now voice, it gives you google voice search (which is the older version)
without root this is the best you can get

I use bt launch as well as headset button apps.
Remember to freeze s voice first.

Thanks for your input! It's fixed
Thank you, that solved my problem, did not realize that you had to disable s-voice.
Were you able to get Google Now Voice? I disabled S-voice and get Google Voice Dialer. Read about using an app to change what bluetooth initiates but that it has stopped working since 4.1.
Would love to get this working. Could anybody elaborate a bit more on how they got Google Now Voice?

First off I changed my lock screen to none when I am In my car and using bluetooth speakerphone.Google voice won't recognize voice commands when bluetooth is connected.A work around is to enable touch sounds in sound settings.Long press the menu bar on your phone, touch the G for google now and it works perfectly on bluetooth speakerphone with voice commands. Please note I use a phone mount in my car to make this accessible
Ive been tearing my head apart with a similar problem
see i have a bluetooth motorcycle helmet. it has a button that launches the default voice app on any phone, the app responds to the button that normally is play and pause not to the button that is designated for a voice app ive yet to been able to find an app that lets you change your default voice app or change the reaction to that voice button i would like to launch dragon which in my opinion is the best voice app but thats just preference. any ideas anyone? oh by the way im on a note 2 running jedi xp11 but gonna update to xp14 as soon as it finishes downloading which take forever .

i got it for you man been breaking my head over it for a little while you just gotta go to titanium backup and make the google now app into a system app than when you hit your voice button in your car or whatever it will ask you if you want to use s voice or google now or in my case im having it use dragon!

I just did some searching and came across a thread with a possible solution. Here's the link:

It basically says to convert google search from a system app to a user app. I haven't tried it, but it sounds like it allows some people to choose a different voice dialer as the default.

This was exactly the fix I was looking for. I find the older voice dialer safer when I'm driving the car b/c google now voice may present you with choices in visual form only. Plus the dialer works from my BT headset even when the screen is locked, yes it bypasses the lock screen. It took me a bit to realize I had to go into the Application Manager to disable S Voice.
Stupid things like S Voice make me want to root my S4. I'm trying to avoid the time suck that rooting and rom'ming can be, but Samsung is killing me with their bubbly and not quite ready for prime time look, feel, and apps.
Give this app a try immediately! I helped beta test and it works wonderfully! Simply connect your Bluetooth headset, press the button on the headset, select this app as the default to open on your phone and select always. Now just press your Bluetooth headset button and boom! Google now opens!
