Problem installing cm nightlies - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running Rom Manager Premium v4.3.2.4 cw recovery 3.0.0.8. ROM Manager does not see any updates for cm anymore and if I manually download it and try to install it all it does is boot to hboot, and does not install. Any suggestions would be grateful!!

I haven't used Cyanogenmod in months btw but I'll try helping out. Let me get this straight, have you ever been able to successfully flash and use any CyanogenMod 7.x nightlies? If not, make sure you have hboot .92 and latest Rom Manager/ClockWorkMod.
What is your wipe/install process? I have always used recovery to flash a rom (AOSP and Sense alike), always has worked fine in my experience. Have you followed the CM install directions (directly copied from CM7 Nightlies Progress 7.1 thread)
1) Download ROM with Rom Manager Premium.
2) Do not install with Rom Manager
3) Reboot into recovery.
4) Make a backup/nandroid (to be safe)
5) Wipe Cache
6) Wipe Dalvik
7) Install Zip from SDCard
8) Nightly at /sdcard/clockworkmod/download/mirror.teamdouche.net/get/inc/
9) /Gapps at sdcard/clockworkmod/download/goo-inside.me/google-apps/
10) Reboot
11) Enjoy
You should only be in hboot while installing when doing the following:
-turn your phone off
-hold power button & vol down
-boot into hboot
-Vol down to select then boot into Recovery

The way I read it, he was trying to install from rom manager but it was just booting into hboot. I'm not sure why it would do that instead of booting into recovery though. Like the above poster said, I'd install the rom manually. As for the rom manager problems, maybe try downgrading to a previous working version or contact the dev (koush) if the problem persists and there isn't another solution. I don't use rom manager so I'm not much help, sorry.

Sorry for the slow response but I was out of town for the weekend.
I have been able previously to update nightly's using rom manager.
Since getting home I downloaded latest nightly, rebooted into hboot, then to recovery attempted to do a nandroid but it hung, hit power button to go back to menu, tried to update from zip but hung again. The only option that it does not hang on is power off.
I have searched market for clockwork but only rom manager comes up, is there another way to reinstall clockwork recovery?

I have resolved this issue, I uninstalled ROM Manager, re-installed it, changed cw recovery to older version, re-flashed latest, and was able to install latest nightly.
Thanks for the help SlimSnoopOS and k_nivesout.

Glad you got it worked out. You can also download recoveries from www.dougpiston.com, they're PB31IMG.zip files that are flashed in hboot.

[Q]Just flashed CyanogenMod nightly... no GApps?

Updated my DHD running CM6.1.3 to the latest 7.0 nightly build (build 30 iirc) by wiping data in recovery (factory reset) and wiping cache partition, installing the ROM via recovery, rebooting, installing latest signed Google Apps via recovery, and rebooting. I still don't have any Google Apps installed and no way to get them. How do I get my market back? Do I have to flash CWM3? :S
Hey humpser.
What you need to do is flash the latest ClockWorkMod recovery, manually reboot into it recovery mode and then reflash the Gapps. For CM7 to work on the Desire, this is necessary. It's suggested to use the light version that would have been downloaded to your SD from ROM manager, filename "gapps-gb-20110115-signed.zip" as this installs the main Gapps and the rest are downloaded from the Market when you sign into your account. Link below:
http://goo-inside.me/google-apps/gapps-gb-20110120-signed.zip
Here's the recovery download link - http://postkreative.eu/ace-cwm-3.0.0.5.img
To do this, you need the Android SDK installed and running on your PC.
- fastboot flash recovery /path/to/<recovery>.img
- fastboot reboot
Here's Cyan's guide - http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Fastboot
Thanks for the detailed reply, I've used fastboot before but will need to give it another go to flash ClockworkMod Recovery latest version. Will update as to how it goes. Thanks again.

google made Cyanogen remove the copywrited parts of android, thats why you have to flash the GApps seperately
Yup, I'm aware, was just having trouble as my old CWM Recovery 2.5 wouldn't flash 'em.
Got fastboot working again after a bit of fiddling and updated to CWM3, flashed gapps and it works great! Thanks!

Help..Problem with clockwork mod

earlier, i managed to brick my defy by first deleting google talk and then using terminal emulator to push the google talk back in system apps.
after flashing a stock sbf through rsdlite, i got my phone working again. my problem started when i flashed another rom (followed instructions from pay's rom tutorial). i was able to flash the sbf file, then root using superoneclick, then install clockwork mod (downloaded the apk and installed manually). i rebooted after cmw install just to be sure and when rebooting to cm recovery only a blank screen shows. i was puzzled as on m original 2.51 rom before, the clockworkmod recovery screen shows up when i reboot in recovery. i tried installing other stock roms (nordic froyo), the problem still persists (blank screen). it also seems to have affected the standard recovery (volume down+power), after showing the exclamation mark with the android guy, no matter where i press on the screen nothing happens, whereas before pressing on the lower right hand screen brings up the menu. what did i screw up this time?
i needed cm recovery to work for i can't flash custom roms without it. any help would be much appreciated. thanks
I had the same problem with clockworkmod so I installed the 2nd init recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032212 and used clockwork mod from its recovery menu.
I think the problem was caused by installing clockwork mod with USB debugging enabled.

so should i try uninstalling clockworkmod and install again? this time un-enabled usb debugging?
what exactly is a 2nd init recovery?do i just flash this over the existing sbf?
sorry for the questions, am still a newbie when flashing defy.
to access stock recovery when the android appears press vol down + up at the same time, my touch screen didnt work in recovery before either
once you can access stock recovery wipe data/factory reset, and flash a new ROM fresh

[Q] ROM Manager boots into CWM 3

Hello guys,
I rooted my WF with AlpharevX, I flashed then CM7 nightly build and yesterday CM7.1 RC1. Afterwards I realised that my GPS doesn't work. I wanted to reflash my radio, I have CMW 3xx, so it is not possible to flash it from recovery. I wanted to boot to recovery directly from ROM Manager, where I have 2.5.0.7, but when it reboots I receive only boot image, when I hit the power button I land in Recovery menu but it says, that it is 3xx version. I tried to reflash radio from there but of course I receive error message.
Have you any ideas, why it is like that?
I think, I could try to convert radio with amend2edify and then try to flash it from recovery, have someone tried this?
Reinstall CWM 2.x from ROM Manager. Someone tried to convert the radio file using Amend2Edify, and it didn't work.
Will help in booting to 2.x recovery.
Have u flashed 2.5.0.7 recovery from rom manager. If yes, it will be present in sdcard /clockworkmod/ downloads folder.
First boot into 3.x recovery then install zip from sdcard. Then choose zip from sdcard and selected the path and file. Then it gives 2.x recovery on the fly. And remember radio flashing is sensitive.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
thx for answers
2.5.0.7 is present in sd/clockworkmod/downloads, so I try to flash it from recovery and then reflash radio. I know it is sensitive, but it seems that I don't have any other choice. I will reflash the same version that I have, so it shouldn't be harmful. then I will go back to newer CWM Version
done, GPS works

Phone stuck on htc screen =[

hey everyone,
So i just rooted my phone using the wiki cyanogen mod, and everything worked great... afterwards I downloaded rom manager and used this method here
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Vision:_Radio_and_CyanogenMod
Method via ROM Manager
Launch RomManager.
Optional: Choose the first option in the app, Flash ClockworkMod Recovery to update to the latest version.
Select the Download ROM option from the main menu in the ROM Manager.
Select the CyanogenMod option, and then choose the latest version of CyanogenMod from the menu.
Optional: When you select the latest version of CyanogenMod, check the Google Apps* option.
Once the ROM is finished downloading, it asks if you would like to Backup Existing ROM and Wipe Data and Cache.
If Superuser prompts for root permissions check to Remember and then Allow.
The HTC Vision will now reboot into the recovery, wipe data and cache, and then install CyanogenMod. When it's finished installing it will reboot into CyanogenMod.
----------
After this the phone rebooted and now it's been stuck on the white htc screen... I'm completely clueless on what to do now.. any help would be great thank you guys
So did you flash a 5.x.x.x recovery from ROM manager? People are having issues with this.
Pull the battery and try booting up again. If this happened on your first attempt (aka it hasnt actually wiped or anything) just go back to your ROM, and flash a previous CWM recovery. 3.0.2.4 works. THEN try to do the process.
All ROM manager is doing here is automating a process you can do yourself. I'm assuming what happened is you're having a problem with the new recovery when it reboots to go to the recovery, it hangs on HTC screen. ROM manager and CWM haven't even had a chance to do anything yet.
Another option is to pull the battery and boot with vol. down + power, then enter recovery. See if it enters. If it does, then you can reboot and run the install from ROM manager and it should work this time. You could also do it manually at that point if you wanted.
For me (and many others) when using a 5.x.x.x CWM recovery, the first boot always hangs at the HTC logo, and after a battery pull and a 2nd attempt to boot into recovery, it works.
if i was at your position and cwm is installed, by look at your post it is installed.
i pull battery out and put it back in. turn on your phone whilst holding volume down.
it will scan for pc10img if there's any dont install it...
then there should be an option for recovery, use the volume rocker to navigate gate and your on button to select.
your phone will restart and hopefully load cwm manager.
if you've got there then you can wipe data and cache then install a different ROM or another cyanmod rom.
thank you guys for all the help! it was much needed, I have successfully rooted my phone and I have cyanmod 7, i'm so glad i didn't brick my phone hahah
Gratulations

How to Update Team Win Recovery and Latest Cyanogenmod

hi guys, I have an international One X with Cyanogenmod 10 and TeamWin Recovery 2.3. Usually when try to install the latest Cyanogenmod update through the inbuilt updater, it would download it, reboot and automatically install everything. However, today I just tried to install cm-10.1-20130304-NIGHTLY and for some reason, it would reboot into TeamWin Recovery and do nothing. I looked it up and it says that I would need a Recovery that's compatible so I thought perhaps I need to update the TeamWin Recovery. This is where I sort of ran into a wall coz I'm not sure how to update TeamWin. I have Goomanager and when I click on "Install OpenRecovery", it starts downloading the latest TeamWin Recovery and then it says that the recovery has been installed. But when I reboot into recovery, I'm still sitting on the old version. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
I'm on 2.4.3.0 and it did not install automatically.
Maybe the only way is CWM.
And you can't install recoveries on goomanager without s off.
Go to official teamwin website and grab the latest endeavoru image. Put it in your fastboot folder. Boot your phone to fastboot mode and connect to pc. Flash by typing fastboot flash recovery xyz.img. Type fastboot erase cache afterwards.
And check your hboot, CM10 works on lower ics hboots and if you want to update to CM10.1 you need a upgraded JB hboot. Don't know what version hboot you have now ?
Thanks for the help. I've managed to flash to the latest version of TeamWin now. Been awhile since I've tinkered with my phone so I kinda forgot all the stuff I learnt before. Anyway, so now I wanna install the latest Cyanogenmod, but if it wont do it automatically, I'd have to flash it manually right? But then wouldn't that erase everything?

My hboot version is 1.12 so I guess it's a bit old for CM10.1? To update my hboot as well as manually update to CM10.1, will I lose everything and then have to restore everything again?
Yep that's right .....
