what stock tw widgets are known battery drainers?
i use the weater app, digital clock, google search bar, yahoo finance, and month calendar.
i gotta feeling that some of them are battery hogs.
also i think a list would be helpful to others.

could you recommend alternatives that dont affect battery as much?
BS! I have original clock, email. IM, agenda and weather widgets, and also whatsapp, battery widget and xda, and at night I lose about 1 pct / hour when the phone is off.
Don't think all original widgets suck (lol) because I am sure they don't.
That is with gprs on, no email sync.

Well guys, if i shut down data the phone uses 1% per 2 hours.
İ guess the battery consumption is the result of a bug in the data line?
You can also put it on EDGE..

thanks for your response david.
among all the stock widgets i use, im kinda suspect of the yahoo financial widget. it switches between my 5 chosen stocks every so often but sync is set to never/manual.
as an occasional forex trader and for general finance, i find the widget quite usefull plus it looks kickass
im wondering if other people have some experience with the widget.

I like how the Friendstream widget shows a full page of updates, yet the official Facebook widget doesn't - it's only showing one update and I need to either click the next button for more updates or just open the Facebook app. Is there a way to have the official Facebook widget display a full page of updates?
is there a reason you can't just use the friendstream widget?

I'm currently using the Friendstream widget along with the Facebook app. If the Facebook widget would display in a full page link Friendstream, I could use just that, rather than a widget and an app. Maybe fussy... but then I am!
I'm now using Facebook due to my friendstream crashing everytime I open it. I got half a page for fb and half touiteur so its alright

Do you have an error log for your crashes in FriendStream?
I have the same "problem" !
The best thing for me would be a FriendStream widget modified to choose what app to use when an item is tapped (twitter official app for tweets for exemple).
Does anyone know a widget like that ?
I think friendstream is nice just because it's scollable... but I like it...
As far as I can see, the friendstream does not have any implementation of INBOX or anything else like it, which is a major con. The Facebook app does, and even displays notifications for messages and pokes.

You're right, it's a major con.
Anyway, I can't find any widget like I want. Except "pure messenger widget" witch doesn't support HTC sense for scrolling...
If someone know such a widget, let us know !

Facebook is the only social networking site I use so I don't use friendstream much. With Friendstream, your an easy target for facebook rapes, found out the hard way!
Does Friendstream have the message, contacts, and calendar Sync like how the blackberry facebook app does?
So to get it correct, friendstream is JUST to look through updates...if you wanted to look at profiles, etc, you would have to use the facebook app?

Where is the INBOX on the facebook app? I thought it was a policy that FB would not allow any access to the INBOX from an app. security reasons? the only way is to surf to FB using the browser? Am I missing the Inbox part of the app?
I wish devs like cyo can make a facebook status updater that says its being updated from there app/rom for example "sent via facebook for cyanogenmod"

This is a known bug. It happens on my phone every time.
- Install facebook app
- login
- exit the app
- run the app again
If you install eg. "OSMonitor" you'll see the facebook process is consuming a lot of CPU in the background.
Given their track record, they'll probably fix it in a few years.
I have another issue with Facebook. For some reason every time I try to share something it comes in some foreign language. Coincidentally started after installing flip board. I have uninstalled flipboard and also reinstalled Facebook but no resolution. Please help.

Turn off Facebook sync? works for me. My battery life is beyond awesome.
m.facebook.com bro
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
the only function I'm really interested in (contacts sync) doesn't even work with the official facebook app.
Facebook sucks up battery and network for me, in crazy ways.
If I login to facebook and leave it running, I get zero notifications, loading anything (even over 4G or wifi) takes forever, and it somehow managed to suck up 2 gigs of data in a 72 hour period (as well as using 38% of my battery?!?). Anyone have any idea why/how THAT happened?
It's an easy fix though: uninstall app, use m.facebook.com

The facebook app comes pre-installed on the Sony Xperia Ion. It also has some kind of system wide integration. I happen to use facebook and figured I'd give it all a try. Timescape is part of that integration with a fancy widget and takes up half a homescreen. My battery life hasn't been that great (10 hours in a 8 hour work day where I barely use my phone at work) and most distressing the phone was getting hot. Too hot to handle comfortably. Especially while charging. After many attempts through setting management and battery managers (which I've always felt we're unnecessary if the settings were customized for battery life) I found the problem. The facebook app itself. Not sure what version but it was the latest for this phone at this time. Not only does my phone now run cool as a cucumber, I expect much better battery life. Oh, and my phone's CPU no longer runs pegged most of the time like it was. So there it is. A tip for anybody finding their new Ion to be running warm/hot and draining battery at a quick rate. Remove the facebook account and use a browser instead. The current facebook integration is problematic on these phones.

Can you please give more detail about what you did? I don't usually get such a low battery time, but today that I was in a LTE area for most of the time the battery went down a lot faster than usual. Did you just remove Timescape from home screen and set it not to sync automatically, or you also had to remove your facebook account from Facebook inside Xperia?
I removed the account. The app itself is un-installable. I don't log into it either. I use the browser and set up notifications through sms.

That helps greatly. Facebook was wiggin out for me through app and browsers, wtf??? This better be corrected with an update soon, not cool. I deleted the account so now it seems to be ok through stock browser & Dolphin. This is a huge unacceptable bug far as Im concerned. Especially when the damn app and integration come imbedded stock. FIX IT SONY. eb
Sent from my LT28at using xda premium
Mainly the "Facebook" integration has to do with Timescape, notification & sharing. I myself won't be using the app w account integration until it's fixed.
Perhaps we could fix this ourselves if they would let us. Cant wait until we root this damn thing, very frustrating. eb

Once you remove the FB app any data tied to it will be removed (contact pics, birthdays, email info etc).

The Facebook app will shortly be replaced with a native Android app as opposed to HTML5, so expect improvements there.
That being said, I've not noticed any particular battery drain from the Facebook app.

That's why you turn off the notifications within the app because it will also disable the refresh interval and force the app to only refresh when you open the program.

hey there, I disabled all the notifications of the facebook app and set syncing to every 4 hours. Still it uses about 1,7% in like 15 hours. Which means it is the top 5 battery drainer altough I dont even use this app. And I don't have any push or notifications on for this app.
Any idea what else i can disable to make the facebook app use less battery ?
Thanks
Greenify it

I would concur with greenify, but that assumes the user has rooted their device. If not I guess I'd look at some kind of task manager to manually kills the process like advanced task manager?

I use it, but not 24/7.. just from time to time when I want to upload a pic or i am bored.
Then create a shortcut to a titanium backup action to freeze/defrost /launch the application. When not needed just freeze it using the shortcut. The only downside to this is the Iook of the icon.

I also noticed that a lot of messenger apps (not whatsapp e.g.) drain a lot of battery. If available in the rom, I use "hold backbutton to force close app". So after using the app, I press this button until the app is closed. Then at least until restarting your phone, the app is unable to restart and to drain any more of your battery.
