i think the OP is up in smokes
this phone is faster that any of the old Hummingbird based phones (i9000, vibrant, Nexus S, captivate, etc)
just remove all the Tmo crapware then it'll be butter smooth
It can be a bit choppy or of the box but I found it good
Flash juggernaut and bullet kernel if you would like to get the most out of your phone right note. It Is a very smooth experience
Bullet really solved most of the.choppiness for me atleast
You will not be disappointed
That is my opinion but many will call it fact

It does get way smoother when debloated, but some of the choppiness won't quite go away. I think there's something going on in the drivers or something.

The dual core processor in our GS2 is definitely faster and more efficient than the Vibrant's Hummingbird processor. I'm surprised that you said the Vibrant feels faster and smoother than our phone. Is the Vibrant rooted? A stock Vibrant can never feel no where near as fast and smooth as this phone especially with the stock RFS file system Samsung used to use back then on the first set of Galaxy S devices.
The issue with our device is the lack of proper optimization with the software for our processor so you'll notice occasional lag bit nothing as bad as RFS.

compare apple to apple, and not apple to pears
the stock Galaxy S family is slow as molasses, but once rooted and with a good polished custom ROM it's as fast as a SGS2
the SGS2-T989 stock is way faster than anything i've ever seen before coming out of the box from the manufacturer
i was not happy with the out of the box experience of i9000, vibrant, captiave, Nexus S
It has its moments when stock. But its much faster than both my vibrant and g2x IMHO.

The launcher you use makes a difference too. I'm using QQ launcher. Got tired of touchwiz dropped it like a bad habit.
With QQ, I never have any slowdown...
I'm rooted on the stock ROM by the way but had the phone like this unrooted also with no problems
i'm using Go Launcher EX, with all the effects and animations ON, same with the stock Android, enabled all the Animations and special effects, on top of that install Spare Parts to enable the hidden special effects
all running butter smooth
i did read few people saying they disabled animation to not have those micro lags, but never seen or noticed one yet

Slowdown
Yes, I have the same problem too.
Is not just lag, is slowdowns during gameplay. And the swipe problems I have it too, but I think is related with the slowdown, it takes more time to react so you loose.
If you have play on an iPhone you can notice the difference, is smoother.
I have friends that can do 10 million points on iPhone but on my Galaxy Nexus they cannot surpass 1.5 million.

1.5 is pretty darn easy to pass on this phone...conversely, I get nowhere near that on my daughter's ipod...so thats not really scientific evidence. It just so happens they are used to one device, rather than another.
I do find scrolling in such is smoother than previous versions of Android, but the micro lag is STILL here. I don't understand how people say its butterysmooth when its not even near the smoothness level of WP and iOS.
Jelly Bean is smooth in apps like the stock contacts list, call app etc, but web browsing is still a bit choppy, YouTube app is just as laggy, the same with Google plus.
I start to wonder if Android will ever loose this laggyness.
Cyanogen should help towards that once the source out. Cm9 is so much smoother than stock 4.04.
As far as iOS goes a lot of apps have that same stutter lag. The Facebook app is horrible on my moms work iPad 3.

What's this fixation with smoothness? Yeah iOS has "smooth" scrolling, but so what? You can't do even half the stuff we can do with Android.

Exactly. I can agree with you there and even had the 4S.
Today I learned that there are Apple fanboys lurking and commenting on this forum.
I came from the iPhone 4S and although its very smooth, it still stutters / hesitates from time to time when performing certain actions, just like Jellybean. And dont get me started on the facebook app... iOS version is much more stuttery than Android version (GPU accelerated of course)
I came from the iPhone 4S and I consider that each has its advantages, but now that i own a Gnex with JB, general lag is not one of them on either side. Just as pleasing in my experience
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
This thread reminds me of my youth. "mom, I got 98 in my exam" "why didn't you get 100? If other kids can, why can't you?". ****ing annoying.
That said, i do get a hint of lag scrolling through the widgets in the app drawer. And that's about it.
I'm using bixsie v2 with franco 217 - 512gpu, 384-1342 with interactive governor.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus.
The "iOS is laggy too" argument from android fans is logically flawed.
iOS isn't 100% smooth, but it's certainly smoother than JB.
The main issue is not JB itself (on newer android devices like Nexus 7, JB and gapps are ALMOST as smooth as iOS on iPad3/iPhone4s), but it's old third party apps that don't utilize the latest improvements in ICS and JB (like gpu rendering) properly.
Because iOS has had good gpu rendering for 3rd party apps since its beginning, laggy iOS apps are a lot less common.
I have no lag whatsoever. Not once have I scoffed or rolled my eyes at my phone after flashing bigxie's JB. Not sure what JB version you're running but maybe a complete/thorough wipe will help? Any apps hogging resources?
Edit: Is it just me or does it seem like data issues could be confused for "lag"?
Yup believe it...ios stutters just like android...only thing is android actually performs many more tasks than ios does...a shame really....all this time android has been focusing on real multitasking.....and alot of bling in animations and transitions.....after all tjis time it still outperforms ios...and JB is the first time in awhile that there has been software optimizations

hi all
just wondering , what's your favourite android skin beside stock ?
TW
sense
Motorola UI
xperia ui
LG ui
etc ?
for me i love xperia the most since it feels fluid and is very elegant , sense is a close second but it i prefer elegance over eye candy
IMO TW is the ugliest , huge icon , too much colour and yuck it just don't appeal to me ...
so whats your favourite ui?
Stock 100%
I am switching from Gnex -> SGS3 this weekend. The hardware is a clear upgrade but I will greatly miss the software on the Gnex. Bug free and always the latest. Cant ask for more.
Aside from stock, I've used Blur, Sense, and Touchwiz. Touchwiz is hideous, I really like the look and functionality of sense. IMO, I used to love the look of sense back in its early days, of course it was extremely bloated back then though.
Just from appearance, since I've never fully used any of the skins except for Sense for a bit, I guess I would lean to Motorola's UI? Just because from what I've seen it looks closest to stock (remember I've only seen it, never really used). The widgets in Sense are nice, that's the only thing nice about Sense for me though..
If you're talking OEM skins/ui then the Sony Ui is the only one that looks good enough to keep it

Out of OEM skins I would say sense looks the best and is the most functional, I also prefer stock over anything else.

Completely agree. I used to like Sense UI but it looks a bit childish now.

If I had to choose a skin, it would be Sense. Its the most polished one in my opinion. However, the skins arent really moving forward quick enough with the Android base and thus feel very outdated extremely quickly. My overall favourite UI would be the stock UI. Its the most clean, polished and refined UI.
If I must compromise the stock UI....
Definitely Sense 4.0+
They really improved in it on the One series. In fact, I'd like to see a HTC Nexus phone again.

Sony's is the worst by far...
timescape is useless and pinch out to widgets is dumb.
newer sense or touchwiz at least adds meaningful functionality into the mix
i can´t answer you because i am super-satisfied with the android stock skin.
i don´t want to try another one although i have the minco custom rom which is very smooth.
Kind of funny but I can't stand the Sense UI. I think it looks childish and takes away the best of Android. I also very much dislike Touchwiz as well as it also looks rather childish. The only UI I could use (But still be somewhat annoyed with) is the latest version of Motoblur as it does keep most of the stock Android look but adds some nice touches.
I prefer sense over all, but have stock for updates. I love sense's widgets and look.

Good:
- Sense is the best out of all.
- Touchwizz Nature UX is great It just works, has eye-candy but not too much. Theme could've been better though (when looking at settings menu)
- Motoblur is awesome but it does not give that much extra. I think Motoblur should be the way stock android looks
- Stock Android. Just the way Android looks and runs the way Google intended it to run.
Bad:
- I hate sony's UI. Not well optimized, looks dull and sluggish on capable hardware (Xperia Ray 1Ghz, Adreno 205, 854x480 on 3.3") But I think it's more Sony to blame
for not optimizing the darn phone (it's on stock 4.0.4)
- LG UI. It looks like it's more meant for low-end smartphones. Not something a high-end smartphone should have. Makes the device feel cheap just by looking at the UI.
- MIUI. Looks are fine. But oh-my! What is it resource intensive! Not recommended to run on an Galaxy Nexus. Slows everything considerably down.
I think that if I had to leave stock, it'd be the LG UI. Its the least irritating.
