I already got my wifi and 3g enabled. what should I do =(

It refers to enabling background data in Settingâ€șAccount & Syncâ€șEnable Background Data.

go to Settings>>Accounts and Sync and make sure Background Data is enabled (ticked)

I found this also if your on G or E connection even if data is enabled, it seems to be more data intensive than the old market

[Q] Restoring Apps from AppBrain

Hi. I am in desperate need of some help...I updated my hTc Desire HD from 2.2 to 2.3 but unfortunately had many issues with my internet, both 3g and wiFi. I finally had no alternative but to reset my device. I am basically having to start all over, however, my apps are still on AppBrain via the Web but I can't figure out how to sync them back to my device. Despite 'back up my settings' and 'automatic restore' being checked under the privacy setting absolutely nothing got retored! It is so annoying that this update caused so many issues and even after the reset my WiFi is still not working and 3g is intermittent. Any help would be much appreciated. Kind regards, Scott
Don't know id it will help you, but try in appbrain:
Manage and sync -> my list -> select one check the date -> add all apps.

Many thanks for your reply, unfortunately, this does not appear to work. Kind regards, Scott
Sorry for that. Hope you will find out.

Hi Scott I had this issue with appbrain too - unfortunately I had to reinstall also. I am now using Titainium backup and that does restore all apps extremely well.
Sorry its not a solution to appbrain.

Thank you. I had to eventually go through the very painful of reinstalling all of my apps manually! I remain very disgruntled because as I stated in my original post WiFi is still not working and I had to download and install all my apps via 3g which was intermittent and painfully slow. I do wish that I was able to revert back to 2.2 Froyo which I had no issues with. Kind regards, Scott

For me appbrain only seems to sync apps on the DHD and shows when there is an update, not sure how to get it so apps are backed up on appbrain.
I would get Titainium backup if I was you as it backs up absolutely all apps and also system settings if you want also which makes everything much quicker when restoring.
There are also some other good backup apps about.
I have things like sms contacts etc backed up on my Google mail so automatically syncs from web to DHD.

[Q] Does CM7 Have a Data Counter (3G data).

Just wondering if CM7 comes with a data counter to keep an eye on mobile data (3G etc) usage.
I've had a good look through all the CM7 settings but can't find one
I have my connection pretty well controlled via Droidwall so only have gmail, contacts & calendar allowed to have access to 3G data so I'm not going to use much data but a counter may be of use if there's a good one available.
Can anyone suggest a good data counter from the market.
Thanks
3g watchdog, never had any issues with it, the pro version can even count data in blocks if you're data plan is based on it, so i highly recommend this app.
Have you checked the market?

Yes I've had a quick look but there's quite a few to choose from so was after some recommendations from XDA members for CM7 really.
I have t-moble, downloaded app directly from market to oversee my data usage.

Just tried 3G Watchdog & it seems to be quite a decent app - shows details in the notification bar so easy to view.
Will probably stick with this when I start getting charged for mobile data
I use the "NetCounter",it's the most light-weight app for data counter.

how do you access droidwall and set it to only allow certain apps to access 3g data?

Download Droidwall from the market.
Load it & grant it Root access.
In the Droidwall menu enable firewall & enable log.
Droidwall will show a list of all apps/programmes that request wifi/3G access with a "checkmark" box next to each.
You can then check which apps you want to access wifi or 3G or both.
Go into the Droidwall menu & click "apply rules".
At the top of the screen there's an option to have it in whitelist mode (only allows access to whichever you have put the checkmark against) or blacklist mode (won't allow access to those apps that you have put a checkmark against).
I use it in whitelist mode.
Important to say if you download a new app after installing Droidwall then you have to go back in & allow it access.
There's also a log button in the menu so you can see which apps are getting blocked.
Thanks for tips. Works like a charm, but gotta slowly add the apps into the list

Some apps may also need other programmes adding to the list for example youtube may also need media server adding for it to work. In that case I use the log feature of Droidwall to show what it blocked.

Ebay installed but invisible?

Hello guys,
A friend has just got herself a lovely OneX, and tonight she showed me that Ebay was installed, we could run it from Google Play, but it is not visible anywhere in the app drawer, not ALL and not Downloaded...
I went to app settings, cleared cache, settings, uninstalled, reinstalled, and it is still invisible!
Any ideas?
She is on O2 UK.
Thanks,
Mark.

Did you try going to settings, apps, find the app and click on it and make sure it isn't disabled.

Hi westwood, she has gone home now, but i did go to settings apps and reset everything before uninstalling and reinstalling... so i would assume it was not disabled, she has never been to the app settings, so she wouldnt have disabled it and im sure it would not be disabled by default.
any other ideas?

My autotrader app has the same issue, I can see it in the apps settings and when I go to google play but its not in my apps folder....
Strange!

are you rooted? stock rom?
She has stock rom, not rooted... straight from the shop...

when you open the app right after downloading from the play store, do you select for the uk?
i'm on stock in the us on an international one x and just downloaded without difficulty, but when i first opened the app, it did ask for the usual end user agreement and pointed to making a choice of location. very odd if it works on some units and not on others.
hi, yes we did use UK, and she managed to log in using the Open button in Play Store... but she doesnt want to have to go to play store every time to run the app!
Very odd.
She may take the phone back to the o2 shop and ask them whats going on. (the advantage of NOT rooting

I doubt they will have more of a clue at the store than people here on XDA :/

Can I only let one App access the Internet?

I am currently roaming in The Netherlands (I am on a T-Mobile UK contract at home), and I have been using WhatsApp messenger to send messages back home when I am on WiFi at the house I am staying at.
With T-Mobile I can buy a 50Mb Roaming Data bundle, which I am considering doing at the moment so I can use WhatsApp when I am out and about, however, I am concerned that other Apps will eat away at the data and it will last no time.
Is there anyway (perhaps by installing a Firewall?) I can set my phone up so only WhatsApp Messenger can access the internet when I am on a Cellular connection and ignore it when on WiFi?
Thanks for any help you can give?
Stewart
The only solution I can think of is turn off sync and freeze apps that might consume data unknowingly. Maybe somebody has a better solution because I would like to know as well.
butter and jelly please...
i'm not sure of droidwall's capabilities, but i would think you could block everything except 1 app.

Are u trying to prevent background data??? And only have foreground data???
If you want to prevent apps from using dataconnection in the background you can use stock android tools:
Settings -> Data usage -> klick on a app -> uncheck background data ...
More powerful are root apps like DroidWall or LBE Privacy Guard.

I've had days problem since day one. Haven't been able to find a fix.
This may not be related but I found in my case that disabling Android Firewall on my LG G3 solved the hotspot internet connection problem.
Mine is not working as well.
Using 3rd party app called Wifi tether router, it works, but it is not freeware.

To disable, click on the 3-dots menu (top right) - assuming, of course, that you've actually got Android Firewall installed.
i also had the same problem. but i installed "wifi tethering" which then got me to install "OpenGarden", however, none of them helped me activate wifi tethering and hence I removed them. But right after that, when I re-enabled hotspot, it started working perfectly fine!! Not sure what happened there, but I thought i'd share it anyway.
