[Q] HBOOT Help Please! - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking at different ROM's and some say you need this HBOOT or that HBOOT but to be honest I haven't got a clue about HBOOT's so I'm worried about messing up/bricking my phone.
I successfully S-Off'd a couple of days ago and on the recovery screen I noticed that my HBOOT had changed (see sig). Many of the ROM's I like state CM7 HBOOT but how do I know if I have the CM7 HBOOT or not? Also, if I do have it, or later flash it (if that's what you do with it), can I use other ROM's that don't need the CM7 HBOOT or will I have to "downgrade"?

Wrong section dude. This is dev section. Try in Q&A.

I have a feeling that this is the sort of thing that is meant to be posted in the questions and answers section of the forum.
You can see the HBOOT you have by booting into the bootloader by pressing the down volume key and the power button on your phone. It will say up the top in that menu. Always go with which HBOOT the developer of the ROM I want to use suggests, in my opinion.

Doh! Apologies for posting in the wrong forum. I was reading a thread in this forum and just forgot.
I'll repost.

im trying to root my htc desire, its currently running froyo and 0.9 bootloader, as you may know unrevoked cannot root and flash without a bootloader of 0.8 or below, are there any simple guides to downgrade?

The latest unrevoked can work with 0.93 now (it just wont allow loading of custom recoveries)
But their are quite a few threads already covering downgrading.
Why why why are you posting in the Dev section?
Read the effing rules and post it in Q&A.. even better, use the fkin search function.

I have S-On and im flashing ROM's without any problems.
Oh god. Freakin' lazy people. Figure things out yourself. There is so much information around here. Do you even know how to boot in recovery? Or do you know what a recovery is?
I suggest you figure that out first. I don't get the feeling (while reading your post) that you understand what you are doing..

Chill out. OP has already asked the question in another (linked by armitage) thread, had it answered, BUT entered a time warp which led to the same question being posted again.

Oh sorry man, my fault. You are totally right.
I thought this was his main thread, you know. That he opened ANOTHER thread with the same question.
But still. The information regarding his question is on XDA. When you first come here, you have to read very much.
Not that I'm for a long time on XDA. I just joined. But I rooted, S-OFF'd, installed a custom HBOOT just by reading threads on this forum. You know what I mean? Threads like this just pollute a forum like XDA. But that's just my point of view.

[Q] Can I root inspite of upgrade to Gingerbread?

I too upgraded to the official Gingerbread release. Consequently, I lost root and cannot access recovery anymore.
When I turn on my phone pressing down the volume button, it shows the following info:
---Alpharev---
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL - SYNW0101
RADIO-5.17.05.23

I am getting confusing information through the numerous threads here whether I should be able to have root access again or not. Can someone please shed some light on this?
I have tried flashing clockwork recovery using fastboot but have not been successful. I am willing to try anything else.
Many thanks in advance!

apology and clarification
I apologize for creating yet another thread which deals with the same issue. But it is not because I did not search... In fact, I am closely following several related threads and know exactly what information is out there.
I posted a new thread because of two reasons:
1. I just realized that my phone still has S-OFF and an HBoot version 6.93... I followed all the instructions I could find on flashing a new clockwork recovery, tried two different versions of the same (2.5.0.7 and 3.0.0.5) and go the same error: "FAILED... <status malformed<1 bytes>>". There is no discussion anywhere about interpreting this error or how to proceed.
2. I found that the other threads in this topic had gotten very long and the only people posting there were people with questions, not the ones with answers. Since I had new information, I thought it would be justifiable to highlight the issue amongst the more knowledgeable...
Again, I am new to this forum and trying to abide by its rules to the best of my understanding. I appreciate you patience.
you can also download PB99IMG.zip recovery and put in root of sd-card.
when you hold volume down and power it will automaticly flash custom rom.
i would suggest 4ext recovery

DUDE SEARCH! This problem has been discussed many times , not sure if in gingerbread threads , but in xda overall.
You need to use VOLUME DOWN+POWER and on the menu select FASTBOOT. If you just boot to bootloader there will be <status malformed<1 bytes> If you open FASTBOOT on your phone , recovery will be successful.

[Q] Having problems understanding Cyangenmod wiki - help to go from LeeDroid to CM7

Hi - first of all, to make it clear, I'm kind of noob.
So .. I got my HTC Desire (GSM) with Leedroid ROM atm. I want to change to Cyangenmod, but I'm a little confused now.
I have tried to get help at the wiki, but I'm not completely sure what to do.
I've followed step 1's advice "Before you do anything - make a backup", of course, and this should be fine.
However, I am not sure about step 2: "Gaining S-OFF & Installing a Custom Recovery Image". My phone is rooted with unrevoked, like half a year ago. I don't know anything about S-OFF and custom recovery image. I've tried to search Google, but it didn't really help.
I dunno if I have to just follow step 2 anyways, even though my phone is rooted, or I just have to proceed to step 3?
I actually tried to follow step 3 "Method via ROM Manager", but it didn't help at all. ROM Manager downloaded Cyangenmod 7.1 and installed it (well, it looked that way), but then I ended up at a black screen with green letters. I just pressed "press to reboot" since I thought the Cyangenmod was installed on my phone, but nothing have happened. Same Leedroid ROM when the phone rebooted.
I hope you're able to help me. Please tell me if you need more info from somewhere!
Some info from recovery mode:
Bravo PVT3 ship s-on
HBOOT-0.93.0001
Microp-051d
Touch panel-synt0101
Radio-5.09.05.30_2
Best regards
/Hamduden
AND btw, I'm sorry if I could have figured out by searching the forum, but I think it's a bit confusing with all the links, threads, abbreviations etc.
You're already rooted, so no need to re-root.

And then read post four of this thread...

ps: Cyanogenmod wiki makes life hard. Don't bother with it. There's good guides here in the dev section you should read.

Thank you zedmarcus!
So I'll just have to:
1: flash the CM7 ROM you linked to, from recovery mode (Volume down + power off/on button)
2: download and flash the new Radio afterwards
Right?
@Terepin:
Your "Thanks Meter" is not going to rise from that useless comment!
Full wipe before the flash.
Don't worry too much about the radio. If the phone works well after CM7 is installed, then just leave as it is.

I followed the guide, and the phone seems to work perfectly! Thank you so much.
However, I can't seem to get my 3G to work. Do you know anything about this?
And concerning the radio. When would I want to flash the new radio? When the ROM someday starts to get laggy/anoying/something?

[Q] HTC Desire 2.3.3 Official Update Custom ROM?

Hi guys. Sorry if this is similar to another question in these Q&A sections but i've gone through so many threads that i'm sick to the bones and ready to blow.
I have the original HTC Desire S-LCD model (slightly slower people, please note it is NOT the S, Z or HD, you don't know how many times this happens) and i used the official update for 2.3.3 gingerbread from the HTC developer site. The thing is though, it's very buggy and the lack of space is annoying me. I managed to get S-Off and install Revolutionary recovery onto it.
(HBOOT version says 6.93.1002 (not sure why it has the 6 part) and it says "Bravo PVT3 Ship S-Off")
I tried using root programs but none of them worked on it. To flash another ROM do i have to root it or can i just flash from this stage? Also what ROM would you guys reccommend? I'm wanting one with the new sense 3.0 or even the HTC Desire S ROM with sense 2.1 and apps2sd. I'm constantly uninstalling and reinstalling apps co its always almost full.
Again, sorry if this is unneccessary spam that has been asked before but i'm tired, confused, sick and annoyed.
Thanks, Huzi.
And please for the love of god don't tell me to use the search bar. At least link me. Please?
You can get some cool ROMS here: http://www.cooldevs.com/ that include upto sense 3.5!
New ROM has be flashed from recovery. Always follow installation instructions when you flash a new rom. To find a good one, check the developers thread.
A good beginnersguide can be found here on XDA (Sticky in General section).
Swyped from ICS with Transparent XDA App
reboot into recovery (either through the bootloader, or by adb reboot recovery).
If you just get an exclamation mark in a triangle, you need to flash recovery. Look at my guide.
If you have a custom recovery, backup your rom (it's pretty self explanatory how), do a full format from mounts & storage (apart from your sd-card), then select flash zip from sd, and then choose a rom to flash. Don't ask which is best or what to recommend. It's all personal preference.
ROM's I frequent:
Cyanogenmod
MIUI XJ
I can recommend the noobs thread it tells you everything, I've used it many of times and you soon pick.up on stuff.

So what you're saying is that I don't need to root or create a goldcard or anything? As long as I have this custom recovery I can flash a new ROM?
Also another thing that worries me is the radio part of the ROM. That was the reason I had to send my phone back to HTC coz there was an error when it was at the ROM stage and wouldn't boot an OS after that.
Can I flash a new ROM without the radio or does that mean no calling etc?
And also does the radio have to be specific to my region and operator? (o2 uk)
(sorry about the long winded questions)

Yes, you don't need a goldcard to flash a new ROM. The radio doesn't affect the booting up of the OS, it just affects your network signal and anything else associated with the radio. The radio doesn't need to be flashed everytime you change ROM's. You can look here to see if you have the latest one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464
The radios are not region specific
Thanks a lot for clarifying that. I think I'm gonna get started with a sense 3.0 ROM.

No problem bro hope you find a ROM to your liking. You could try this one its a 2.1+3.0 sense rom.

You know what? Delete all tutorials. What's the point of having them, when suckers will jump to every n00b like superheroes and will re-write the same things all over again?

And let me ask you something. Is it such a crime to ask for help and give help? I've read through every tutorial i needed and still ran into problems. A store worker doesn't ignore you when you need something just coz people have asked before. By signing up to XDA you are automatically willing to help others or even help yourself when problems arise.
Revolutionary. Single word that fixes all. Instead, they gave you even recipes for secret cake! That's not helping, that's spamming.
