I've installed cyanogen 7 in my motorola defy and since then I'm experiencing a problem with the use of multiple keyboards in it.
I have Swype, Better Keyboard and SwiftKey installed, and frequently when I'm into some app and I try to choose which keypad to use, I only have Android Keyboard active.
And no mater whether I have only one more extra keyboard selected alongside with AK or if I have all of them selected, it always end up to AK being the sole active keypad.
Has anyone been through something like this? Or, is it there a way to patch or solve it?

I'm running the Nordic Rom with CM7 and had the similar experience. I resolved this by
1. Selecting the 'swype' as input method in settings/language & Keyboards
2. Opening up the default email and selecting compose
3. Select the options button, (visible on the bottom left of the android keyboard)
4. Selected swype as input method.
This appears to have now default swype across all apps. I've rebooted several times and it has stayed as swype. No idea how to then change to another keyboard
btw i rebooted several times and it has stayed as android keyboard,if got solutions pls teach us how to patch inside cm7.thank!!
Not sure if this will help, or is the issue, but I had a same kind of problem. It turned out the keyboards were on the SD card, and not on the phone. Once I moved them back to the phone I had no problems. I can just long press in a text field, and all my keyboards show. Oh and this is basic, but sometimes we miss it. Installing a new ROM or factory reset means you need to go to the keyboard settings, and checking each box of the keyboards you have installed all over again. I only point this out as I had to to a hard reset, and couldn't figure out why I only had the Android one available. Oops.

I dont know if this is an issue with all other inputs but when i use swype it appears to break multitouch.
Installed swype and used it as my default. I then noticed that the browser pinch-zoom doesnt work, and again with the sense home app pinch. When i did pinch or use two fingers on the home app it opened the add sidget menu, as if i long pressed. also i tried the multitouch paint app and two finger stroke drew nothing. It all fixed itself after i used the htc touch input as default.
Is there a newer version of swype that fixes this or is it a HTC problem?
swype version: 5228 or 1.16.12.5228
This is a known issue. The pinch to zoom gesture seems to be something that's part of the pre-installed keyboards rather than the OS itself, so selecting a different one loses you the gesture.
NO, it's not that the pinch-to-zoom is built into the HTC keyboard, it's that for some reason changing the input mechanism disables it. If you reboot (leaving Swype enabled) it'll work fine.
Same problem for me after setting SlideIt up
I am using Swype and have no problem with multi touch. My version is 5612.
It only happens when you first switch to Swype, reboot your phone and it should be fine
It's Beta software...in fact you shouldn't have it unless you're part of the closed Beta group...if you are, you should be asking them as they would want to know about issues, that's what Beta testing is about.

If this unauthorised software is causing you a headache, and you insist on using it despite the developers telling you not to, well that's your fault.
when I install Sougou(Chinese Input), pinch is lost

There seems to be something linking multitouch to the keyboard.
If you hold down the menu key from ANYWHERE the keyboard will popup, I am yet to discover why this is but I feel there must be a reason for the keyboard to always be running, Multitouch could be it.
Let me just say it again in case people missed it:
AFTER INSTALLING YOUR THIRD PARTY KEYBOARD AND ENABLING IT, ALL YOU NEED TO DO TO FIX MULTITOUCH IS REBOOT.
Sorry for shouting but I've seen this crop up in a multitude of different threads around t'interweb now, all thinking it was a problem with a particular keyboard.

I resolved this problem by restarting the phone.
I have been seeing a few new Andriod users out there that are unfamiliar with the way things work (software wise). One annoying repetitive complaint is "I installed a custom rom and now my swype is gone!ZOMGWTF!"... Well DUH you formatted you phone and installed over anything that was originally your phone...
But fear not PC challenged newbs, there is a simple solution:
Sign up for Swype Beta at beta.swype.com and install that, this info is everywhere but one more place can't hurt...
(Yellow box, vibrate, and no output with Swype enabled.)
Well now here come the other typical complaints (and solutions),
"Now I have to select Swype as user input everytime I want to type or it doesn't work, pfft FAIL!!!"
(Solution 1: Do not install to Swype as an App2SD and be sure it resides on your phone like a good little app.
Solution 2: Using a root uninstall application (or manually) remove the gingerbread 2.3.3 keyboard (or other version that is not Swype).)
Re-install the gingerbread keyboard if you really want it and you are winning bigger than Charlie Sheen, the keyboard will now no longer trump the Swype and you can go about your merry way. EDIT: Some phones lose connection to the Swype library even if Swype is the only soft keyboard installed and is not on the SD card, in this case installing a second soft keyboard AFTER installing Swype will fix the issue.
"Now every reboot I have to re-select the Swype keyboard."
See Complaint #2
So basically if you want Swype with no issues, install it after ROM flash and then uninstall other keyboards using root.
Now people please quit *****ing about Swype not being inlcuded in your "favorite" ROM and take some initiative and fix it yourself.
And for those that say ... Ha ha ha, should have used Titanium Backup, you are dead WRONG and have never used Titanium Backup to restore a factory installed Swype... It won't work no matter how hard you rub Buddah's belly.
EDIT: Posted this info to keep the threads a bit more cleaner from all the non-ROM related issues people post... I'm so sorry that your phone cannot microwave my pizza while bluetoothing with a custom ROM. Hopefully someone else feels my sarcasm.
The important thing I've noticed is to just make sure the keyboard is installed onto the phone. You shouldn't have any problems with it disappearing after a reboot if it's on your phone instead of the SD. This will make it so you don't have to bother with the hassle of removing the stock keyboard.
these methods should help but i believe swype on this phone is garbage (i have big fingers), but it is helpfull my wife enjoys the swype keyboard and this helps me when i go to root her phone.
Glad to help. Hope I didn't come off too sarcastic and some people got a laugh. Also to explain why it cannot be on a ROM, it is licensed software not available under the GNU.

Use the SlideIt keyboard. It is much easier to use. You an go from tap to slide mid word and a bunch of other intuitive moves. Plus, it doesn't have the voice command button for you to accidentally hit.
I have signed up for the swype beta before and im not sure if i had it on sd or not, but when i tried typing a yellow box would come around the swype keyboard and i had to select the stock keyboard and then select the swype keyboard again for it to work right, will having it on the phone fix that?
Uninstall stock keyboard, then reinstall keyboard. Goofy I know but it works. Should be on the OP. There seems to be a bug in the software when reconnecting to the library if it is not the only or first installed soft keyboard. I had to do this as well and have not had a problem since.

inb4 "Why doesn't Swype swipe?"
Swype often doesn't swipe after you reboot your phone. The easiest way to fix that is switch your Input Method away from Swype (e.g. to the stock keyboard) then back to Swype.
If you follow my OP Swype will always work.

I uninstalled the main gingerbread keyboard and left swype as my only one and still get the no swyping error often. I had to download a kb from the market just to reinstall swype and see if it will behave now.
My Swype only works when it was installed stock kb removed and a new kb from the market was installed in that order, other ov might not require a kb installed. One of my ov phones doesn't.

theres probably an easier way. check the g2 forums. i think there is an app called swyperestore or soemthing along those lines. basically it imports your swype with your swype license to your new rom from a nandroid.
although...not sure if it would work on the v....
Anyone tried what I do on the g2? I'll try today, moving the lib file swype has and installing swype along with it makes it work on my g2.
My current fix is I used titanium backup to freeze and delete the android keyboard.when I reset the phone if swype still isn't working I freeze and unfreeze swype in titanium and it's worked every time.I'm working on changing how android associates with the keyboard to see if it's maybe still trying to use droid keys

installed swype beta. worked. rebooted blue box error. used a root uninstaller app to uninstall android keyboard. rebooted and it worked
Congrats, glad the how-to helped. Would be rough typing on this tiny keyboard without Swype or other similar program.
Anybody find themselves pressing the . instead of the space far too often? It gets kind of annoying, at least in portrait view. Also, "at" being constantly mistaken for "arty" seems kind of ridiculous. Despite that, I love swype, and this is coming from a physical qwerty junkie!
Awesome, thank you. No issues with your OP.
How do you remove the GB KB?
My swype beta didn't work, so I junked it. Now after reading this, my only question is what app or how do I remove the Gingerbread keyboard? (I don't see it as an app, is there an app that will remove it?)
Thx.
Use titanium backup.

Today when I tried to type something with Swype, it seems like the Swype dictionary got deleted. When I try to type a word with it, it does the blinking blue border. Then I turned on the text prediction, and even words like "what" don't appear in it. Nothing at all does. I haven't turned my phone off at all in the past few days, and it's charged.

Trial period has ended, what did you do to remedy this?
I know you mentioned you haven't turned the phone off for a while, but did you try to unselect, then reselect Swype? Do this by long pressing on (almost) any text input box. A popup with a "Input method" as a choice will appear. Select Touch Input. then repeat, but pick Swype this time.
For the latest beta build, you need to do this every time you power-off/restart.
After I switched the keyboards I saw that Trial Period Has Ended thing. Does anyone know how to go about upgrading like it says to do?
Happened here too. I am using xboarder's stock ROM. This just started happening this afternoon.

If you are using swype beta- Uninstall swype, launch the swype installer, follow the instructions.
If using preloaded swype- holding a text box, unselecting swype and reselecting will fix the blue box thing.

Well, I'm not using a beta swype. But it still refuses to come up and let me enter text by swiping the keyboard.

Did you try it from the settings as well? Select the normal keyboard, type something with it, then go back and reselect swype.

I'm also on Xboarder's AOSP Rom, and I tried it from the settings and that didn't work either. But I'm starting to like SwiftKey. It would be nice to find a fix for this though.
Add a new email account to your phone. Go to the swype website. Request to download beta version like you never had it before. They email you a link and a code. Worked for me.

I've tried that. Fails to install. The stock G2 roms are apparently known for that because of how swype is preloaded. (According to the swype forums anyway) Another user has reported that pushing swype (I presume from the stock rom) fixed this for him. Glad I still have that backup.

Another user of xboarder's rom pushed Swype from the T-mobile leak and the problem went away. I just did the same thing and now all is well.
I guess Xboarder used a beta release of Swype.

I think its because Swype just released a new beta. I just started having the same issue today (beta version of Swype), and similarly have not powered off or restarted my phone since last using Swype successfully. When trying to unselect/reselect Swype I got the "trial period over" error. So I uninstalled Swype and ran the installer. It gave me a message that a new installer version was available. I installed that, and re-installed Swype, and now I have the new version.

Funny, they must have just made a bunch of updates to the Swype website, because I just visited it yesterday, to try to help the OP with his problem, and all the new posts above the May 6, 2011 post (which is out of sequence) were not there yesterday.
http://swypeinc.com/news.html
One good thing to note, the bug where Swype did not work (and you had to unselect/reselect it) after a phone restart has apparently been fixed (just tested it).
Now, since the OP has Swype cooked into the ROM, I guess he will have to resort to the push method previously mentioned.
i had this issue today as well and jus update to new beta and i have to say i love it! no more annoying pop up mini window for word choice! but i always have my orignal nandroid of stock swype, so i can use SR to restore to orignal swype
Someone else mentioned this on xboarder's ROM thread. What I did to remedy the problem is use titanium back up to uninstall swype from my phone, then downloaded the swype beta from the swype email link i received last week. Works like a charm now.
So I'm not sure how to go about describing this issue, so I'll just take a stab at it by saying that the android keyboard will not ever autocorrect "youre" to "you're". Instead it would rather correct it to "your". Yes this bothers me a lot because now I have to manually spell out that word whenever I use it. Is there some setting in the android keyboard that I'm missing that makes it understand the difference between your and you're? Some default setting perhaps? I've already cleared out my personal dictionaries for this as well as attempted to add "youre" manually to the personal dictionaries but go figure, the phone won't let that happen. The other reason I'm using the android keyboard is because ever since jellybean came out, the default lg keyboard in the phone seems to have become very slow. And by that I mean I can type faster than the key pop ups have time to pop up. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
Since you've done the only things I could think about, I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. My only recommendation would be trying a different keyboard, I've used Swiftkey for years and really enjoy it! You can try a free trial (1month). Otherwise just try some other free ones?
I have tried everything. Clearing the settings, Restarting, shutting down, booting into recovery, but nothing gets my auto correct back. Just to be clear I am referring to when I, for example, would type 'hellp' into messaging, and it automatcially gets fixed when I hit the space bar. I'm on Wicked btw
Any ideas?
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
LOL, I spend hours looking for menu to turn it off, since I could not type any word that was not in dictionary and corrections were almost always wrong, for your example hellp could be misspelled hello but also help, hell etc. So stupid question: is it still turn on?
Im not sure what you mean , "is it still turn on" ?
Dictionary? I dont even have a dictionary app in this rom.
Ive tried all the settings, including resetting them, so every thing *should* be turned on

Have you changed keyboards? I had this happen on an HTC and reinstalling the stock keyboard worked for me even though I was using swiftkey.
I assume it worked when you first installed your custom rom?
I think the other guy meant the built in dictionary that's part of the OS or keyboard, not an app. That's the library that lets auto-correct work.

I hadn't changed keyboards, but I have now
I installed swiftkey, and its working the way it should.
I don't know how to re-install the stock keyboard btw - do you mean just switch the keyboard and input method to Samsung keyboard, or is it something else? Also, yes it did work when I first installed the rom.

I just asked this awesome community for the stock HTC Sence keyboard .apk and they served it up within hours, for the Gnote3 just do a search for the latest touchwiz keyboard and that should turn up an apk.
But it sounds like swiftkey fixed it and I'm pretty sure you'll like it more than the stock keyboard, letting it learn from old SMSs/facebook/twitter/gmail/etc will help it a lot too.
