cm7 installation confusion - Defy General

I have rooted my defy(india froyo 2.2), installed "system recovery" and made backup going into recovery.
Do i have to use custom recovery as said in CM7 FAQ thread step 7 to backup?
If i dont want to flash sbf then there is no need to restore nandroid backup of 3.4.2-177 as on step 7 ?
if i dont flash sbf and if i want to restore original rom, how to restore it?

How can I downgrade from Froyo (Pays-ROM) to Eclair?

I need to downgrade to Eclair cause I have to send it to the manufacturer. is it possible? (from Froyo Pays-Rom).
Possible.
Yes, it is possible, at least I think so, haven't tried Pays. I had to do it myself, I just did nandroid backup of my 2.2 ROM (to keep all my stuff) then did a data wipe, after it a flashed an original Moto SBF with RSDLite, then flashed a nandroid backup of my operator's ROM.

Could you explain it step by step? cause I've never done a nandroid backup or flashed of it.
thanks!
Ok, so let's suppose you have a rooted phone and you have system recovery installed on the Defy (google those things, as they're easy).
1. Boot into System Recovery. Go to Backup and restore, go to backup and backup your system (this will make a copy of your data, cache and system, a copy of the ROM you are using and the apps/data you have added, like passwords and stuff; the backup will be done in /sdcard/goapkrev/backup/[date], store it somewhere safe).
2. Go back to System Recovery main menu and do a data wipe.
3. Flash an official Moto SBF with Eclair (Google is your friend) with RSDLite.
4. Flash the bootonly for the SBF you flashed in 4 with RSDLite.
5. Root and install System Recovery.
6. Go to System Recovery->backup and restore and restore a nandroid backup of the official ROM that your operator uses (you have to search for it previous to this steps and put it in /sdcard/goapkrev/backup/
7. Unroot and uninstall System Recovery
Now you have the Defy just as your operator handed it to you.
then let me pasted some official 2.1 firmware for #1

[Q] How to perform a NANDROID Backup DHD?

Hello,
I have my DHD only with two months of use. Now i decide to perform a Nandroid Backup, of the original rom.
I already have installed "rom manager", "visionary+", but when i go into recovery mode the DHD shows this message:
Can't open /cache/recovery/command
And donĀ“t shows the backup option.
What can i do? I want to make a backup of my DHD before flashing it with custom roms.
you must perform temp root + perm root first..
after that , open rom manager , and click "flash clorkworkmod" ..
after that, you can use the recovery
Installing Visonary and ROM Manager isn't enough to have ClockworkMod flashed. You need to Permroot with Visonary first then you need to have Eng-S-OFF to flash CWM and then you can make a nandroid backup.
But why would you want a nandroid back up? Just use something like My Backup/Titanium Backup to backup everything. People make nandroids because they're doing things that could possible harm their devices, if you don't plan on doing this then simple backups are best. then again I could be wrong, you might want to root and play around with roms. either way read the guides in developer forum

[Q] Downgrade from CM7 to stock rom

I wanna ask about the step of going back to stock 2.2 from cm7 via flashing .sbf.
I am now using cm7 rc1.
Do I need to wipe data before flashing?
If yes, which recovery I need to choose in bootmenu, custom or stock?
How to downgrade from CM7 to stock TMobile US 2.2.1
I have a question regarding the FAQ (and I'm a noob when it comes to installing roms and flashing):
I am currently on stock US Froyo (Version.34.4.9.MB525.T-Mobile.en.US, Build Number: 3.4.2-107_JDN-9) and would like to try out CM7.
Before I do this I want to make sure I can go back to my stock version just in case.
The CM7 FAQ state that in order to downgrade from CM7 I need to have a nandroid backup AND a fixed SBF.
I already made a nandroid backup (using CWM)
My question is related to the SBF:
Why do I need to apply an SBF on top of my nandroid backup? Isn't this a full backup of my phone? Could somebody please also please verify my understanding of a fixed SBF is (compared to a normal SBF)?
Is a fixed SBF an SBF which enables future downgrades?
Also, when installing CM7 - do I really need to flash nordic first since I'm already on Froyo?
Thanks a lot
@kenkoo611
Hello,
flash the Froyo Rom what you need/want.
After this, you must make a Fullwipe with Stock Recovery.
Then you have original Froyo back.
@twa_priv
You have already Froyo. You don't need flash any sbf.
1. Backup your Data
2. Copy CM7 zip on your SD Card
2. Root your Froyo
3. install CustomRecovery for example (2ndInit Recovery
4. Full Wipe from Custom Recovery
5. Flash the .zip from SD Card
6. Reboot
done.
You can back to the original Froyo with RSDLite and this sbf: (US T-Mobile 3.4.2-107 from here)
@cargobr151
Thanks for your quick reply.
Can't I also go back to stock Froyo by just restorinig my nandroid backup instead of flashing the fixed US T-Mobile 3.4.2-107 ?
If not could you please tell me why?
Thanks again
You can restore your Nandbackup, yes. (I think so.)
If you have after the Nandrestore problems, you can back by using sbf.
how to back up my current ROM (stock froyo)
my phone is not rooted yet...!!

[Q] Reverting back to Froyo

I am going to install Cyanogen, which I am aware is gingerbread based, however if I decide to go back to froyo, is this possible, if so, is it as simple as restoring the bacup, as the back up is froyo. Thanks! )
if you want to go back to froyo, you just have to install rom manager and store the clockwork mod recovery from there. The process is the same as CM then.
Yes it is very simple.
You should make a nandroid backup of your stock Rom before installing cm7. Nandroid backup can be made from CWM CUSTOM RECOVERY. After backing up stock rom, then you can install cm7 from the same CWM recovery ( version 3.x or above) .
If you are not satisfied with cm7 then you can just restore your stock Rom from CWM CUSTOM RECOVERY. The option will be called "nandroid restore".

Help flashing MIUI

I need help flashing MIUI, so I figured out its not as easy as my previous phone, I checked up most of the topics and failed to find required information. I have Asia 2.2.2 factory installed firmware, I dunno if it is required, my Build Version is JEM_3.4.3-36-1.7. My questions are:
1. Can I root my current firmware with SuperOneClick? And can I flash MIUI directly over it after installing 2ndinitd on my firmware? Or I need Nordic firmware before (is it really necessary)?
2. In order to flash MIUI what do I need to install before, is it CWM recovery or only 2ndinit would do the work, and it wouuld install CWM / custom recovery by itself?
3. If I want to come back to my stock 2.2.2 will I need Fixed SBF or Full SBF or only the Nandroid backup will do the work?
i use the SuperOneClick try to root my defy(2.3),but it seem not work very well,if your rom is 2.3,you can try it.if you root it ,you can install CWM recovery and select install from zip, than ,you can flash miui,if you bl=6,you can't flash miui.
if you want back to 2.2,you just need flash full 2.2 sbf use the rsd lite
my english is not very good
One more question, if I made a Nandroid backup of my phone using CWM, and I after that I fully factory reset my phone and clear it's cache and dalvik cache, and flash over MIUI, will I be able to recover my whole backup? Or the MIUI's kernel won't allow nandroid Blur backup?
Im using SuperOneClick 2.3 works for my Defy+
