I am going to install Cyanogen, which I am aware is gingerbread based, however if I decide to go back to froyo, is this possible, if so, is it as simple as restoring the bacup, as the back up is froyo. Thanks! )
if you want to go back to froyo, you just have to install rom manager and store the clockwork mod recovery from there. The process is the same as CM then.
Yes it is very simple.
You should make a nandroid backup of your stock Rom before installing cm7. Nandroid backup can be made from CWM CUSTOM RECOVERY. After backing up stock rom, then you can install cm7 from the same CWM recovery ( version 3.x or above) .
If you are not satisfied with cm7 then you can just restore your stock Rom from CWM CUSTOM RECOVERY. The option will be called "nandroid restore".

Hi there, I currently have a desire HD that is rooted, s-off and clockwork mod installed. However before I install a (CM6) I was wondering if I do a nandroid backup of my current stock rom. If i then install CM6 then say I want to go back to the stock rom do I simply launch rom manager again then restore from back up? Is that it?
Thank you very much for your time!
Yes, as simple as that.
It just sound..well all to easy Haha! So simply back up using titanium then nandroid install Rom from sd then say I make a back up of this non-stock Rom and then boot into recovery again and restore using backup of original Rom everything will be back to normal? (would there be any chance I could restore again using back up of the Rom I downloaded and it'll be back in that version again?) Thanks!

Hello,
This is my first time installing a custom rom.
Previously i was just used to flashing sbfs and restoring all my data and stuff using Clockworkmod Recovery..
I have two main doubts, before I install CM7 RC1 V2
1) I'm running a stock Froyo with a Clockwork backup, and have a lot of apps, data, homescreen config etc
I want to have at least my apps and my contacts when I'm on CM7
What is the best possible way, TitaniumBackup/MyBackupPro or can I use the clockworkmod?
2) After installing CM7, if I restore my clockwork backup from Froyo, what will happen?
Will I get reverted to Froyo, will the data seamlessly merge with CM7, or will my Defy just crash?
if u backup from recovery and restore it then u will be back to froyo..its like backing up an OS and restoring..
if u want ur apps then use titanium backup..
I made a nandroid backup in clockwork of the stock rom. Since then I went to a custom rom. I was wondering if I could restore the backup while on a custom rom or if I have to go back to stock and then restore it.
2. How would I get back to stock if I needed to?
Thanks

You can boot into cwm from your custom rom and use it to restore the nandroid backup which will take you back into the rom as it was when you backed it up.
I suggest you make a nandroid of your current setup before hand - one can never have too many backups!
I am currently using cm10 with hellboy kernel and have a cvm backup of stock rom. I was wondering if *touchwood* something were to happen to the custom rom will a simple recovery be enough to get back to sense? or is there some kernel which will have to be flashed first? or is ruu the only way of going back to sense?
if u have a nandroid backup of stock ROM u can restore it and flash the boot.img found inside that particular backup.if u do not have a stock backup u will have to apply ruu or u can even restore nandroid backups of stock ROM found on XDA.

So I made a back up of my rom, and then flashed cyanogen mod 10.2 stable. It didn't boot up so I tried to restore the backup I made of my stock rom, and now I can't find it.
Depends what ROM you had and what you have done in between flash, like wipe, format and stuff.

Almost same problem here
I used CWM touch to make a backup of my stock rom.. I copied it to my pc and after i installed CM 10.2 last nightly.. After i wanted to go back to stock and i copied backup to phone.. but i could not install it.
You must use the same CWM to restore. TWRP and CWM/PHILZ don't get along very well. If you made a backup with CWM, you must restore it from CWM.
