Did you try s-off with alpharevx? I think that it is the first thing to try. Search for it on wildfire android development. Just be carefull after s-off in wich rom to flash, or you can loose your 3g.
Like i said, i try (Alpharev, Unrevocked (Internal fail. Nand flash?) and Softroot)...
Look, i dont know your phone model, since mine is an European one, but do you know that alpharevx is different that alpharev, right? Just go to Dev forum, and the first or second topic has everything that you have to know.

When I first saw your OP, I thought you made a mistake in writing the radio and hboot versions. But your screen shot clearly says that your hboot is 1.01.0000 which is odd one AFAIK. How did you get that hboot (is it so out of the box). And you said wildfire (desire A), what's meant by that.
First of all, is your wildfire A3333 one. Check it under the battery or on the box. As the radio and hboot of your wildfire is odd , I don't know how it goes when you flash BUZZ WWE FROYO RUU. Actually one needs the hboot 1.01.0001 from this RUU which is compatible with alpharevx. So better wait for some more suggestions before doing something.

Me too. I can mount system R/W using Root Explorer, use Titanium Backup but after a reboot I lose system modifications because Nand lock (S-ON).

i got unrevoked v3.32, it works well on my phone. but i don't know how to upload it, maybe i can email you if you need(about 30MB).
BTW. as i know, before rooting you should shut down all of the process related to "HTC" in the Task Manager.

I have 2.2 and i wanted to root my Desire today and got this messages :
error rooting firmwire to new ? and internal error : installing package failed
I found 1 thread that says we can't root using Unrevoked if we have hboot 1.06. Wonder when this will get updated...
I get the same message as the OP and would love to get the unrevoked tool or hboot drivers updated.
I'm 99% sure it has to do with the updated radio and/or hboot included in the 2.2 RUU that they used.
This is not a result of poorly followed steps according to current guides.
edit-
This will affect EVERYBODY who buys a new Desire with 2.2 installed from U.S. Cellular
It will also affect EVERYBODY who had S-ON prior to using the 2.2 RUU update downloaded from HTC. Regardless of other root access.
I figured it was due to the HBOOT version.
Well I'll start a bounty to the team or person who fixes this
I've got $15 i'll put up.

I couldn't root my 2.2 HTC Desire with Unrevoken3, but then after some searching I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
Following that I've downgraded my phone to version 2.1, then Unrevoken3 did the trick.
After that I've put Oxygen ROM 2.3 Gingerbread on my phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882758
That downgrade utility is for GSM desires not CDMA.
Oxygen ROMs are also for GSM phones only.
All US Cellular phones are CDMA
I have noticed that is possible to be done for HTC Desire to downgrade HBOOT from 0.92 to 0.80 without any problems. Did anyone tried to downgrade HBOOT of Buzz ? In theory is it possible ? Thanks!
Desire != Wildfire
Anybody tried this methode ? does it work ?
I have done some search and I have found out it MIGHT be possible to do it. I got the recovery files in place extracted the rom from a RUU. Now I need some HexEdit search. Seems like the misc partition on Wildfire (were the current version is stored) is not in the same place as the one on Desire. So definitely
Wildfire != Desire
If i manage to find the right combination I will try to brick my phone latter on
good luck i hope it works downgrading not bricking
Just send your phones to me and i will S-Off them with my XTC clip ;-)

Downgrading worked for some time now, but, it only downgrades Android 2.2.1 to 2.1. The HBOOT remains intact. So, to answer your query, no, there is no downgrading method yet.
You can get S-OFF on the updated HBOOT though.

so i can downgrade to android 2.1 to flash 2.3 later?

No. Because 2.3 is only available as a Custom ROM so far. And, to flash Custom ROM's you need to be rooted, which you cant do even if you downgrade to 2.1 because, as I said, the HBOOT cannot be downgraded.
Hope it is clear now.

Yes it is through a specific hardware device called the XTC Clip. You will have to buy one yourself or find someone who has one and is willing to S-OFF your Wildfire for you. Just a search around here should reveal the specifics. Not very sure on that.
This XTC Clip, what specifically does it do? Couldn't someone who has one work out exactly what is does and then put it online? Sorry if this sounds stupid.

haha, I knew that! I wondered what it actually did... Like change a system file or do something to the SD card which allowed the phone to have an S-OFF Hboot installed.
I own a HTC Desire Z, and I have downgraded my software including Hboot using this method .
I have tried the same thing on my girlfriend wildfire and I managed to obtain temporary root, but when I tried to change "misc_version" to 1.24.405.1 I got this error:
Code:
# /data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.24.405.1
--set_version set. VERSION will be changed to: 1.24.405.1
Patching and backing up partition 17...
Error opening input file.
I know that this files are specific for Desire Z, psneuter worked only after I have downloaded from somewhere else (I don't remember where), but maybe someone will manage to edit "misc_version" and make it work on wildfire, then it will be possible to downgrade everything including H-boot.
the partition table is different on each model. that's one of the reasons why it won't work..

I think the only thing we need is to edit the misc_version and make it work on wildfire, I don't know if this is a hard or easy thing to do, but after that nothing will stop us from downgrading H-boot and gain root access once again
I posted all the steps I did here, but nobody listens to me
HTC is committed to assisting customers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC Desire:
http://www.htcdev.com/ruu/PB9920000_Bravo_Froyo_hboot_1.03.0003_R.exe
http://www.htcdev.com/ruu/PB9940000_BravoC_S-RUU_Alltel_UTSI_001-27_hboot_1.09.exe
http://www.htcdev.com/ruu/PB9940000_BravoC_S-RUU_UTSI_028-47_hboot_1.09.exe
After this you must reboot in FastBoot Mode and type in Command Prompt: fastboot oem get_identifier_tokenSubmit
Then submit the token in order to receive your unlock code binary file...
When copying the token, start with this line:
<<<< Identifier Token Start >>>>
And end with this line:
<<<<< Identifier Token End >>>>>
The difference with the official way is that you only unlock the bootloader. You don't get S-OFF so you can't make changes 'on the fly' with Android running, you'd need to do changes with the phone in HBOOT/fastboot mode.
Hi,
thanks man. I'll have a good play with this later today.

the official way of unlocking bootloader. a bit more restrictive than true s-off (cant flash radio)
theres a thread with a little discussion about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431726
FYI.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=662710
Rom Development - only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here.
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?

it's what I was thinking, what's the point of unlocking it with this.. and if you do that I bet you won't be able to flash an alpharev hboot since you can't roll back hboot version, and running revolutionary won't work since it's different hboot version.
That's my hypothesis on this anyway.
Yup. Correct. Unless you flash a hexedited version of this hboot, which has the version downgraded. Any guineapigs? It's useless, unless you plan to retain HTC's stock recovery to flash custom roms. Which again is useless..

Including me.. There's no way to be completely sure that the hexedited portion is the correct bit which decides the version. I flashed a hexedited hboot onto my device, and it did downgrade the version number displayed on the hboot screen, but that does not mean the version lock happens there.
But for fun, you can change the bit that says Alpharev/Revolutionary to whatever you like.

Anyway, I want to root my HTC Desire. This will be my first time rooting a phone and I'm pretty excited haha. I have searched on Google for rooting/flashing methods, but none of them actually worked for me. I guess it's because my HTC Desire runs Android 2.3.3? I read something about downgrading my phone to 2.2 again, because rooting is than easier? Can somebody help me? ><
Information about my phone:
HTC Desire A8181.
Android version 2.3.3.
HBoot 1.02.001.
I don't know if this is enough information for you guys to help me, but if you need more, just ask.
And btw, I am 14 and not a native English speaker, so there may be some grammar/spelling mistakes.
you don't need to... you can get s-off via revolutionary and flash zip via recovery from question about root... 4th question from here

Another Off Topic. Hey erklat, I haven't used any Sense rom based on the official GB update since I'm an AOSP kind of guy recently. Is that rom on your sig solid as a rock? I might give it a flash one of these days.

It is if you remove SetCPU. Somehow I guess it is in conflict with screenstate script. Last week it was running strong for way more than 300hrs before I forgot my charger in a car on a parking lot. I used it as a hotspot which ran battery flat before I managed to plug it in. Otherwise, it would probably work now even.
Apparently there will be an upgrade. Neophyte tweeted it, and AuraxTremeGinger is a thing to wait for.

are you on the cdma desire ? i'm on the gsm telstra desire .
on my telstra desire the htc dev rom would crash on stock apps eg camera and message etc and my phone would reboot or freeze randomly , i know it's software related as when i was on the 2.2 rom from telstra i did not have these issues , got so fed up with the rom i decided to s off and install a new sense rom ,from that day on my phone does not freeze or reboot .
No, i own the GSM version. It's an unbranded terminal, PVT-4, made in China (not Taiwan).

Good news for you guys having updated latest FOTA and lost unlocked bootloader. If downgrading did not work out for you, visit htcdev.com.
They released an official RUU for the latest firmware to be unlocked.
Also do wish me luck, bc latest FOTA bricked my device. Maybe I can revive it this way.
But nevertheless, no need to downgrade anymore.
To upgrade to 2.13.401.3 do i have to go back to stock recovery or does it work with cwm or goldcard ?

I'm sorry, this has nothing to do with upgrading to 2.13.401.3.
This is just for telling people already having 2.13.401.3, that they now can unlock the bootloader with a HTCDEV RUU
Yes i know it, but i downloaded the ruu update.exe because i don't received the fota and i read somewhere on xda that we have to go back to stock recovery for update.
yes, that's right. but this is the wrong place for your question.
Sorry i just realise it now, i forgot you update via fota
yap..I just opened a website htcdev, there is no more 2.13.401.2

read title from theq86 this is news about official RUU for the latest firmware to be unlocked, so theres no need to downgrade if you want to unlock bl (if you're on 2.13.401.3)
In addition: there is only hboot file in the RUU-update That means that our phones will be always unlockable after flashing every next ROM update from HTC. No more outdated RADIO.

sorry to disappoint you, but if a next update comes, this RUU will not work again because of the main software number
Is there a way to downgrade 2.17.531.1? I need do downgrade it in order to use the HTC ruu.
I'm s-on bootloader unlocked with.HBOOT 1.08.0099

You are wrong. RUU checks software number by comparison to the number from misc partition which is r-w accessible after shell root. Here is tutorial to do that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301388.

Huh, that's funny. If you listen to some people around here, HTC is a giant corporate gorilla that doesn't care about its peon customers or listen to them at all. They were never going to unlock the Wildfire S bootloader in the first place, and then after they did, they killed us with an RUU that relocks it just to torment us, and they were never going to solve that problem for us either.
Thanks HTC for listening to your customers... AGAIN!
