Gingerbread kernel for froyo - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know that a froyo kernel cannot be used for a gingerbread rom, but can a gingerbread kernel be used for a froyo rom?

Try it out... what would be the point tho, we can't overclock or uv with gb kernels yet.

Whichever one you install.
They can all use overclocked kernels provided you select the right one.
I believe all of them now that kernal source is available. I think netarchy's kernal goes to 1.15 on any rom. If you use CM6 and snap kernal, some people have reached 1.28 or so. But 1.19 is very stable.

Does that .19 really make that much difference?

Why is froyo flashed before installing cm7?

Can someone explain why one has to flash a stock froyo before installing cm7?
any idea where I can find material which covers all these booting, recovery, and the like?

because when the cm7 porting to defy started, there was no gingerbread kernel for it, and because of the locked bootloader, the devs couldnt do anything about it. so basically its a gb running on froyo kernel. and you can find everything you need to know in a sticky thread in defy general 'all-in-one defy beginners guide'.

So, does it make CM any difference to those running stock GB?
I mean performance and stability-wise
though i havent tried any of the stock gb roms, the latest nightlies of cm7 are very stable, havent had any bugs with them. and preformance wise im quite sure the cm7 is way ahead of stock gb (based on the stock eclair and froyos ive tried, they had sucky drivers). and cm7 doesnt have blur, so i probably wont be using motos software ever again...

I'm on stock 2.3.4 (fixed sbf + android) and lemme assure you performance wise CM7 kicks its butt on any given day , twice on Sundays. lol

Overclocking epic 4g

What's the best way to speed up/ overclock an epic 4g atm. The I'm on E. R. A V. 6 rom with 2.6.x. x. Kernel( I haven't flashed a kernel separately on this phone so I'm not sure if this is a stock kernel or what). Thanks in advance

You can use Tegrak on GB leaks, the ERA ROM uses the modded EG22Plus kernel from chris41g, which works just as good or better then stock EH06 kernel, but Chris now has a EH06Plus kernel out you can flash.

Yup,I believe Tegrak is the only way to overclock on Gingerbread right now. Once the official gets released, our devs will make some great overclockable kernels

You should try CM7 REwamped DarkGreen. It's based on CM7 but with a custom skin and some issues fixed.
