[Q] Who's not going 3d?

I kinda find it funny in a way that people were doggin the evo and bragging about the Evo 3d.
So now that you know the Evo 3d is locked down. Who is sticking to the Evo?
Evo is a great phone she is the best so you might wanna pick her up give her a hug and kiss it and she will forgive you for wanting to leave her for the Evo 3d.

My upgrade eligibility isn't until like october or november, so I'll just have to see how the evo 3d scene is looking by then. I'm 99% sure I'm getting a new phone, I just hope it's an HTC and not something else.

I was going to stick with the OGevo even if the 3d had a dedicated "instant root" button!
I'm hoping we see something better by axemas.

I never jumped on the 3D bandwagon because I'm entirely happy with my Evo. I know it has better hardware and other optimizations, but my Evo is fast enough. I don't experience any lag, and I see no need for more speed. While the new Sense looks nice, I don't use Sense. I'd rather be able to load super awesome roms on my current Evo than have to stay on the stock Evo 3D rom for more than a week.
Regardless of that, the more I see the 3D, the more I want it. Still not bad enough to buy it out of contract, or sell my current Evo to help pay for it.
Maybe when the Evo 4D comes out six months later, I'll get that.

Ya I'm still loving the evo still beats the newest phones sprint is gonna release. I don't see the evo 3d being a big seller now lol. So the evo will be getting a OTA I wouldn't claim sprint is gonna let it die it's there best seller.

I'm keeping mine, no need to get rid of a phone that's less than a year old and works great!

I wouldn't say it's a fail. It might be a fail in the eyes of rooters but it'll probably be very successful if it follows the trend of the EVO.
And it probably will be rooted sooner or later. If it can be locked or course it can be unlocked.

Got to upgrade to the new hardware is a definite must for me. no doubt, no doubt.

Lol nice feel bad for the people who are stuck with it and no longer want it from pre ordering it.

I need root access, unlock, customization, variety, the need to flash every few days. Sticking with the OGevo for now. I do have hope that it will be unlocked but till then, Ill stick with flashing in between the Kingdom Rom and CM7..

No root, No EVO 3D. I qualify for an upgrade next week but I'll wait for something that can be rooted. The whole 3D thing isn't my cup o' tea anyway.

I see no benefits of the 3D over the 4G.
I mean honestly, 3D screen? That's nothing special imo.
2 cameras = more bulkiness = bad... (But can video in 3D or 1080p Video)
So I'll be sticking with my current Evo..

Totally agree with you on that . I'm still loving the evo. Feel bad for the ones who sold there's lol to realize they made a mistake. There evo will be saying "why did you leave me why" low chilling creepy voice while they sleep. Lol better hope it doesn't come back Freddy Kruger style

People are only dogging Evo 4g because now there will be other options from Sprint that are at the same level or possibly a little better. But as long as Sprint hooks everyone up with Gingerbread and some of these excellent developers create some roms for it, I'll be quite fine with my original Evo. Evo 3D may be locked down and even if it wasn't, who's to say it would be any better?

Well now that the Evo 3d duel core phone is out today our phone is no longer the top dog... Now it is a piece of crap.... and sprint wont give me an upgrade until november! how dare they! So now i must be stuck trading between epics and evo 4g's every week! We need a support group... we can tell ourselves that our phone is great but lets face it no duel core and no duel cams either and no internal 4gb of internal ram,,,,, i need phoneagra from the makers of viagra.,...

It may not be the top current phone, but it is not a piece of crap. These kind of whining has got to stop among the mass public in the world. Everyone always complaining about their phones going "out of style" when new phones hit the market. Everyone always want to rush-buy the new phones, but always fail to realize that those phones will also be "out of style" when more phones hit the market. EVO 3D will be all the rave, but 6 months later...(next year?)..maybe sooner... EVO 3D will be considered "piece of crap" along with past phones. My gawd, the Epic is still a great phone. Stay with it for a few years, for sure I will. If you're rich, fine, keep getting new phones, who cares.

Are you gonna be able to do anything with the evo 3d that you don't do with the epic? NOOO. So why spend more money if you will only be able to do the same things you are now. My definition of a pos is having a samsung instinct when this epic was first released and some would prolly say hey that was still a nice phone and it was but the amount of new features that I got with this epic was astronomical. That sir is when you get new phones. Besides their will be no apps and te development will be really slow on that for a long time. So me ill wait a couple of years till everyone has the dualcores figured out really well.

In the rest of the phone world, epic lost it's crown soon after Tegra 2 phones were released.
Don't believe me? on the technical side, go look at the benchmarks. On the real world side, goto Radio Shack/Best Buy and play with those phones side by side to the your Epic.

i am just talking about the sprint devices. I also know that by the end of the year that quad core phones will be out... now sure if sprint will have quad core phones or not...

according to http://phandroid.com/2011/06/24/rumor-sprint-bringing-epic-4g-2-4g-galaxy-s-ii-in-q3/ the epic 4g 2 will be another piece of crap as it will be single core. As we know a flag ship phone must have the highest number of cores to date for the cell phone company.

I was told that I can trade in my evo and $50 for a evo 3D but is it worth it?? I read that they will have root soon for the 3D...

It's worth it for a more up to date piece of technology. Root should be here in early September.

Personally I'm on the borderline because I think it's a great offer..however..that means I won't be able to upgrade until 2013. And next year an even better phone will come out.

Cause the evo 3d isnt that huge of an upgrade, and now with synergy or mikg roms you can basically have the 3d software...for free...jus my opinion though

If it was me, I think I would wait for the EVO 4G +, or at least more information about it.
The 3D just seems like a gimmick that you might end up not using after a short time.
The 4G + is supposed to be the 3D minus the 3D but with the single 8MP camera. That's what I want. However since I just upgraded to get this one I have a while to wait.

I though about it, But i am keeping my EVO4G better, This ROM, KINGS Hybrid 3D is super fast, all works, I like my 8mega pix better, and somehow my Phone is faster 4G, than the new EVo3D

The 3d is crazy fast. Definitely an upgrade. I never realized how laggy synergy was until the 3d. Apps open instantaneously. Everything is quick. Screen is brilliantly colored and super high res. 3d is gimmicky, but I see myself using it for almost every picture. camera (3d or not) is better than og evo hands down. Feels more solid, more brick like, thinner, better to hold. Everything about the phone is better in my opinion.
Btw, all the reviews in this thread are from people who haven't upgraded for one reason or another. Of course they'll say don't upgrade. Ask in the 3d forums and you'll get all yes answers. You really need to make your own decision.

Listen to Dkdude. Trust me, I ran every rom there was on my 4g. Yes they were fast, but there is no comparison to what the hardware is capable of on the 3d. And like another member said. If you wait for "the next big thing", and trying to keep your upgrade, believe when you finally do get "that next big thing" 4 months later you will be out of date again.

Yea ur right, everything will always be out of date very quickly.
I just feel like I have an evo 3d without the 3d cause of thr new 2.1/3.0 roms. No I dont have a 3d and yes ive only played with it for 3 1/2 minutes at the sprint store, but my phone looked almost the same software wise sitting next to it. And I do like the design of my evo better.
To me it jus didnt excite me,like omg I have to get this, cause my og evo felt almost the same. I just wanna wait until one phone really excites me, and it probably wont be until this evo cant handle newer roms.

Just got the 3D coming from 4G.
So far it's great. Even the 3D stuff is fun to play with.
No regrets what so ever.
If you wait, you just push your next contract discount clock out further for the next next phone.
If you have full discount, I say take it now, so the clock starts running for the next upgrade discount.

...cool. I guess. I loved my Evo4G with a passion--it was an amazing phone with a spectacular development community...but...After the ET4G I'll be damned if I get saddled with Sense and a half-assed camera ever again. My Moment's camera, while only 3.2mp, took far superior pictures.
...at least eventually Sense will be option thanks to AOSP roms, but, I love this amazing camera far too much. Samsung makes cameras, HTC does not.
Supposedly the sensor was the same as in the iphone4 and they still managed to make it take half assed pictures....some were great, but, that took engineering...blurry shots, odd colors, worthless in low light. pffft. HTC has got a lot to prove before they win me back. (though I am open to the idea)
EDIT: and how could I forget the screen? Any other phone's screen is washed out and dry looking. Only the iphone screen comes close, and it still isn't as completely awesome.

Im gonna wait a few weeks for some feedback, I learned my lesson pre ordering and showing up at 7am for the evo3d. HTC wasn't nice to us with that phone. Im sure the new EVO will get some great development.

Thank God they got rid of 3d and if it's got a locked boot loader I won't get it ... I don't want the htc unlock junk...makes it hard to flash roms

I think audio will be better on it...i listen to music and videos a lot and hence will be getting it...

I was probably going to get it if the battery was 2600 mAh, but it's only 2000 mAh. It's not much of an upgrade from our devices. The only reason I see to get it is for the LTE.

Any word on the bootloadet? I'm sure it will be locked with an unlock key from HTC which is BS.

I'm interested in the HD voice, something I wasn't even aware we were deploying until this product announcement.
If we move to make all phones compatible with the set of HD voice protocols, that would be quite a feature to separate Sprint.

I cant stand Sense, but the phone looks SWEEEET.

Looks astonishing but that's probably all it is. I had the evo, evo3D, and the jumped ship to the ET. Nothing I've used has wowed me like the epic did. I guess I will have to wait and give it a try to see if it will be anywhere near SGS3 ballpark one its announced.

So the HTC One will be known at the Evo4GLTE. I am sorry but I think it is time for Sprint to let the name Evo go away. Should be a nice phone though regardless of the name. Hopefully it will ship with the bootloader unlocked.

Well at least we are gonna have some good options for Lte. It's still gonna take a lot for HTC to get their namesake back. Wtf were they thinking with the 3d POS? If you notice, they are trying to get a similar phone on all carriers like Samsung did. We all see how that paid off Sharp looking phone!

Aren't all HTC phones going forward locked and them making you unlock through them?
After moving to Verizon and having the Galaxy Nexus, if I were on Sprint it would be a tough choice for me.
The GN is my first Nexus device and I must say I am really enjoying the pure Google experience. While the EVO LTE might have some better specs internally, there is just something about Vanilla ICS which is a much better experience over Sense.
Curious how this will play out for you guys and what device people will be moving to. If I was going to go to a non Nexus device I think I would wait to hear what the GSIII is going to include. I am thinking that would be the non-Nexus device to go with over this HTC phone.
Sammy proved to me they are the leaders after there SGS2 and they know they set the bar high for themselves and I think they are going to deliver...Geeze, If the current SGS2 had a 720p screen and an LTE radio in it I don't think many would even look at the EVO LTE.
On top of it, if you are going to go with a Non removable battery, you need to throw something large in there like Moto did with the Razr Maxx to make it worth it...2000mah isn't even the size of an extended battery.

I don't know... I think Ima go the Gnex route until the GS3 drops.

I used to think my mother evo was slim.. Till the e4gt.. Now I can't stand the thickness of holding any other phone.. Lol

I totally agree with you on throwing a large battery in like Moto. That 2000 mAh battery is a complete buzz kill for me. I will be getting the GN when it comes out. I've been wanting the real Android experience. To me usability is way more important then having the top of the line specs. WP and iOS have really opened my eyes to this recently.

Evo 3D vs E4GT

In terms of power how does the EVO 3D compare to our phone? I've heard the Evo can be faster with the right rom. Has anyone had the Evo 3d?

No but its ratings weren't that good and I perceived the 3d as a gimmick. Go read in that section of the forums and see what you might expect to see. Both htc devices I've owned developed hardware problems without any abuse from myself. I've had better luck with Samsung hardware. They're definitely easier to root and mod.

I know someone who has an Evo 3D and they are constantly jealous of my phone. In terms of hardware, they're somewhat comparible. But the Super Amoled screen is the real kicker. My friend's phone looks washed out, almost foggy. The first time I used her 3D, I actually rubbed my eyes just to make sure my eyes weren't the issue.
Plus, I agree that Samsung is much easier to root and mod than HTC phones. Neither are as easy as Nexus devices obviously, but Odin really is a user and noob friendly program. The only glaring issue with our phones is the whole EMMC brick bug. I'm so glad that I read extensively before flashing a ROM on this phone, otheriwise I would have been asking for a replacement within the first day of owning it.

I had an EVO 3D and returned it in 8 days. Nuff said. :thumbdown:

Me too swapped for photon. The parallax barrier 3d screen gave me migraines even when I wasnt using the 3d

Lol that was exactly the one I swapped it for (photon) then open new line to get the E4GT in sale $99 - $10 discount =$89 at Radio Shack back on February 2012 and gave photon to wife.

I had the Evo 3d for 6 days and went back to the OG Evo. 2 weeks later got the e4gt and haven't looked back

Yeah the photon looked nice but i didnt like the screen, motoblur and that ive heard motorola is a pita to root, unlock and custom rom. Even though i didnt use the hardware keyboard a lot on my epic 4g, i liked that i had one. Stupid logic i know. Hardware keyboard was good for some games and emulators.

Yeah the photon being locked up tighter than fort knox is why I added an xtra line and got an et4g on launch day lol

I bought the 3D and within 3 months got the E4GT and I like the Samsung a lot better.

I bought an iphone 4s 64gb full price during the first week of release. 1.5 months later I traded it in on the e4gt.

I had both the evo 3D and the photon. Both only for a few months. Had my e4gt for a year

Honestly I love the 3d. I still have mine from launch day spotless and no dings and working like a champ. My gf had the epic touch for about a month and its power button failed, charging paused error, phantom menu key presses, GPS was awful, would say battery was at 0 even though it was charged.
I got an EVO LTE and she inherited my 3D and has had zero issues. Smooth performance, power button works, GPS works.

Evo 3d stock was just ok. With a sense 4.0 rom pulled from the htc one s it was a great phone. Is it better than the epic touch? Probably not but it all depends on how much money it costs. Just as a point of reference the evo3d can be bought for $85 at cowboom. The epic touch is $170. It's not twice as good.

I have both of them flashed to boost and quite frankly I like the evo better. But I use the et4g cause I have 4g with it and for some reason I have a weird flash issue with my evo dropping off the network but when we are able to bring to boost I will be using the 3d again. I like the better resolution screen and the fact thst the gps dosent suck. Both phones are snappy though. Though the battery life sucks on the epic might need a new battery

EVO 3D = CRAPPP
The most common issue I see with Evo 3D's are with the touchscreen. They start to "ghost touch" which is best described as it will randomly act like it's automatically touching spots on the screen without you even touching it, and when you do touch it, it acts as if you are holding one finger on the screen and trying to swipe with another and it just freaks out. We can't even keep up with repairs on these because of a national backorder on the LCD/TSP assemblies. The other part that sucks is that you can't just buy a digitizer and expect to be able to replace it and be on your way, because it ALWAYS acts like it's freaking out no matter how you go about replacing it. We have to order the entire front panel/TSP/LCD assemblies or else it's just not worth our time trying to fix it.
It's just a gimmick phone

I've had the 3D for about a year and I still have it, although I'm thinking about switching to the Epic 4G Touch. I'm currently on Virgin Mobile so those are the only beefy phone to chose from that are worth it besides the One V, but I had that and returned it.
