[Q] i want your opinion

i am a sprint customer and i am currently using the samsung instinct S-30 (which i hate).and i want your opinion on whether i should get a evo shift or a samsung epic????? i dont want your opinion on your favorite manufacturer,i want it strictly based on the phones!!!!!

My sentiments exactly...unless you totally can't live without a keyboard. You should be used to not having one on the Instank. But I say Shift between those two choices.

to be honost,i would like the evo.but the evo is slower than the epic and the shift,the battery life is BAD!!! other than that i love the big screen,great screen.i want the shift more than the epic,sense UI looks way better than touchwiz UI,the metal on the shift looks and most likely feels better than the plastic on the epic. thanks KB112!!

Personally, get an evo; much better than both. Between your choices, get the evo shift.

Hardware and performance...The evo performs better than the shift and epic, and the evo has better developer commitment. Personally never liked sliding keyboards because it makes them more vulnerable to breaking on the hinges no matter how well you take care of it.
And if you're gona spend close to 200$ on a phone, make it worth while.

the epic is $99 at radio shacks website (web only price) and the evo shift is $129 on radio shacks website.so,no matter what,im not buying the phone from sprints website or retail store to save money.if more people did that,they would save more money on phones.

i'd wait for the evo 3d. estimated about a month away. duel core 1.2 ghz processer. qhd screen. glassesless 3d photos and videos (can be turned off so don't cry about it), better everything. just wait a little bit.. you won't be sorry.
btw if youre doing it for the keyboard, swype is much better than a harware kb, mainly because it's just as fast one handed.

ok,1st,i gurantee you that the battery is gonna bite,2nd,swype is not better,ive practiced and practiced it,and for me,its not easy.sorry to all you swype fans but thats just me.3rd,that phone is gonna be expensive no matter where you buy it,the evo shift,as of right now,is my 1st choice,theepic is my 2nd,the 3rd the evo,and 4th,the kyocera echo.

1. As stated, you can get 24hrs + out of the evo, I have some screenies to prove it.
2. Swype I personally think is better. I don't always use it, but it is far from difficult, and fairly accurate.
3. Well exactly, but you pay for quality, and its an invest,emt, well worth it
4. I'm mad the kyocera echo even made it into the running. It has minimal support, and any of the "dual screen" apps are few and far between. You don't need 2 screens to view 2 web pages, that's why they invented tabs.

i understand,but i dont have the money for a really expensive phone like the evo 3D,or the nexus S.and if i can only get the epic from radio shack for $99,that is exactly what ill do.but do you know if you can root an epic and put sense on it,a good,working sense,with sense looking widgets that look half as good?

Well I understand, but then at least get the evo shift; it'll have sense right off that back. Both can be rooted. I don't think you can put sense on the epic.

Not at the moment there isnt. A sense port is being worked on, but its not available yet.

Well Its Official Our Phone is a piece of crap now that Evo 3d Duel Core is out...

Well now that the Evo 3d duel core phone is out today our phone is no longer the top dog... Now it is a piece of crap.... and sprint wont give me an upgrade until november! how dare they! So now i must be stuck trading between epics and evo 4g's every week! We need a support group... we can tell ourselves that our phone is great but lets face it no duel core and no duel cams either and no internal 4gb of internal ram,,,,, i need phoneagra from the makers of viagra.,...

It may not be the top current phone, but it is not a piece of crap. These kind of whining has got to stop among the mass public in the world. Everyone always complaining about their phones going "out of style" when new phones hit the market. Everyone always want to rush-buy the new phones, but always fail to realize that those phones will also be "out of style" when more phones hit the market. EVO 3D will be all the rave, but 6 months later...(next year?)..maybe sooner... EVO 3D will be considered "piece of crap" along with past phones. My gawd, the Epic is still a great phone. Stay with it for a few years, for sure I will. If you're rich, fine, keep getting new phones, who cares.

Are you gonna be able to do anything with the evo 3d that you don't do with the epic? NOOO. So why spend more money if you will only be able to do the same things you are now. My definition of a pos is having a samsung instinct when this epic was first released and some would prolly say hey that was still a nice phone and it was but the amount of new features that I got with this epic was astronomical. That sir is when you get new phones. Besides their will be no apps and te development will be really slow on that for a long time. So me ill wait a couple of years till everyone has the dualcores figured out really well.

The epic can't take 3d pics. And quad cores will be out by end of year so even 3d evo will .be soon outdated pos

In the rest of the phone world, epic lost it's crown soon after Tegra 2 phones were released.
Don't believe me? on the technical side, go look at the benchmarks. On the real world side, goto Radio Shack/Best Buy and play with those phones side by side to the your Epic.

i am just talking about the sprint devices. I also know that by the end of the year that quad core phones will be out... now sure if sprint will have quad core phones or not...

according to http://phandroid.com/2011/06/24/rumor-sprint-bringing-epic-4g-2-4g-galaxy-s-ii-in-q3/ the epic 4g 2 will be another piece of crap as it will be single core. As we know a flag ship phone must have the highest number of cores to date for the cell phone company.
souped up version of the original Epic. Inside will be a single-core 1.2Ghz processor and we’ll likely see Gingerbread. We’ll be on the lookout for a keyboard, of course, and the camera is said to be 8 megapixels instead of 5. But don’t expect too much more than that.

It's worth it for a more up to date piece of technology. Root should be here in early September.

Personally I'm on the borderline because I think it's a great offer..however..that means I won't be able to upgrade until 2013. And next year an even better phone will come out.

Cause the evo 3d isnt that huge of an upgrade, and now with synergy or mikg roms you can basically have the 3d software...for free...jus my opinion though

If it was me, I think I would wait for the EVO 4G +, or at least more information about it.
The 3D just seems like a gimmick that you might end up not using after a short time.
The 4G + is supposed to be the 3D minus the 3D but with the single 8MP camera. That's what I want. However since I just upgraded to get this one I have a while to wait.

I though about it, But i am keeping my EVO4G better, This ROM, KINGS Hybrid 3D is super fast, all works, I like my 8mega pix better, and somehow my Phone is faster 4G, than the new EVo3D

The 3d is crazy fast. Definitely an upgrade. I never realized how laggy synergy was until the 3d. Apps open instantaneously. Everything is quick. Screen is brilliantly colored and super high res. 3d is gimmicky, but I see myself using it for almost every picture. camera (3d or not) is better than og evo hands down. Feels more solid, more brick like, thinner, better to hold. Everything about the phone is better in my opinion.
Btw, all the reviews in this thread are from people who haven't upgraded for one reason or another. Of course they'll say don't upgrade. Ask in the 3d forums and you'll get all yes answers. You really need to make your own decision.

Listen to Dkdude. Trust me, I ran every rom there was on my 4g. Yes they were fast, but there is no comparison to what the hardware is capable of on the 3d. And like another member said. If you wait for "the next big thing", and trying to keep your upgrade, believe when you finally do get "that next big thing" 4 months later you will be out of date again.

Yea ur right, everything will always be out of date very quickly.
I just feel like I have an evo 3d without the 3d cause of thr new 2.1/3.0 roms. No I dont have a 3d and yes ive only played with it for 3 1/2 minutes at the sprint store, but my phone looked almost the same software wise sitting next to it. And I do like the design of my evo better.
To me it jus didnt excite me,like omg I have to get this, cause my og evo felt almost the same. I just wanna wait until one phone really excites me, and it probably wont be until this evo cant handle newer roms.

Just got the 3D coming from 4G.
So far it's great. Even the 3D stuff is fun to play with.
No regrets what so ever.
If you wait, you just push your next contract discount clock out further for the next next phone.
If you have full discount, I say take it now, so the clock starts running for the next upgrade discount.

Well, I got my full upgrade back. Some questions about changing to the EVO 3D...

I have an HTC EVO 4G, I'm considering upgrading to the EVO 3D.
My local Sprint store has a deal that if you have a 2 year upgrade and you trade in your EVO 4G, you can get the EVO 3D for $50.00 dollars.
I'm considering trading my EVO 4G in. As you can guess, I'm rooted. Do I need to un-root prior to trying to turn in phone in? I've taken my phone in for service, rooted without hassle before for this is different.
Also I do NOT have my factory HTC battery. I upgraded and gave my original to a friend. Is this an issue as far as trading in?

I did not unroot my phone nor did I put the stock battery back in. All they did was look at the esn number that was on the phone and then threw it in a drawer. They won't look through it or anything so you have nothing to worry about.

You should do it if you think the evo 3d is worth the exchange. You can also wait it out and see what else they will come out with. Im pretty sure they will come out with something much faster and better.

I played with the 3D in the store and wasn't all that impressed coming from the Vibrant on T-Mobile so I snagged up the Evo 4G while I waited for a better dual core. So now I am getting the Motorola Photon 4G on the 30th and since I am new to Sprint and within 30 days I only have to shell out an extra 100.
What I am saying is that over all the Photon looks to be way better then the 3D. I did not care for the 3D at all and it looked very odd. Also for me and my eyes I could see the layer that is over the screen when I moved the phone around and that was enough to turn me away. Also I really wanted one feature that really killed and that is Wiimote/other controllers and TV out at the same time. The Evo 4G and 3D wont have that since HTC has an odd BT stack that doesn't want to pair with a Wiimote and yes Cyanogen does but then you loos HDMI out so your still SOL. The Photon will do all that out of the box.
The other thing that looks really compelling with the Photon is the webtop. I see this replacing my PC for internet browsing and stuff. I don't play any PC games anymore and what games I do play are all on my phone so it is a win win win for me.
So consider the Photon before jumping on the 3D, it just might be a better match for you.

Also keep in mind u will probably never be able to run anything custom on the photon, yet the EVO 3d is weeks if not days away from being fully rooted. Then all this negative crap will go away when they see what the phone can really do.

Wow...you actually sound like an Apple fanboy for the EVO 3D. The EVO 3D doesn't even have a kickstand. FAIL.

Over all the only upside to the 3D is the 3D and it is not that great I played with it for 10 min in the store and it just seemed a little odd just like the 3DS.
for the CPU the Tegra2 beats the MSM8660 in benchmarks and real life speed tests. Games are created for the Tegra2 that don't run on other CPU's because they cannot handle the texture size. 16gb storage built into Photon and none on the 3D. Webtop, true HDMI mirroring, and correct BT stack for Photon and a docking station with USB device support.
But I'm not turning this into a war of devices, I was simply informing the OP that there are other choices out there as he kinda sounded a bit unsure of the move.

You're right I won't turn this into a war if devices but to say the only upside is the 3d would just be incorrect. Any person could look at the specs of the two side by side and easily be able to point out many superior features in the EVO.

I just went back to my 4g after 2 weeks with a 3d. It wasn't for me as I felt the cost/benefit did not justify an upgrade. I realize now that the 4g is enough for my needs.

Check your information because it has been made very clear Motorola will not ship the photon with an unlocked bootloader.

Both Moto and HTC are bad about this. But Moto did unlock the Matrix so it's a safe bet that they will unlock the Photon to.

I tried that method and after waiting for a new graphics card for my PC 5 years passed and I was using a 5 year old card and was loosing out on a lot of good games(in my gaming days). So waiting for the next best thing will keep you waiting forever.

Especially because technology moves at such a quick rate, it's insane. New phones are being released, announced, or leaked almost every week. Besides, there's usually not too much of a significant change for many months at a time. Yeah, one phone has 1.2GHz instead of 1.0GHz, but would you really notice? And I mean really, truly notice? Not "Of course, the benchmark scores are higher", I mean "Wow, this game runs much better!".
I just bought an Evo 4G on a new contract last month, even though everyone told me that I should wait (or should have waited) for the Evo 3D. I'm very happy with my purchase, and after seeing both my boss' and my roommate's 3D's, I can honestly say that I don't regret it. Yeah, Sense 3.0 is awesome, but once root hits the 4G, I can even have that if I want.

No confirmation from Moto that they will be unlocking the Photon's bootloader. They have stated specifically that it will ship with bootloader, recovery and kernal locked as usual. Other than that it looks pretty good. Not my cup of tea, but the Galaxy S II should be here in about a month as well. If you're really patient, then most of the speculation I've read says that quad core phones will be shipping by Christmas. Personally I'll be sticking with my Evo 4G for now. 3D seems like a gimmick, no root for the Photon and, well, the GalaxyS II is a Samsung.

Ok guys... What do yall think? I kinda want it because they have full working sense 4 and stuff in development. And i like the dual core proccessor. But the one thing i cant stand is the camera on it. I have seen side by side photos of it and the e4g and the evo 3d looks terrible. Like its chooses some really cold hue making the pic look blue and dark. So, what should i do?

Why buy an e3d when you can get a 4g lte? If price is the issue, by the time your contract expires next April the price of the lte will have dropped alot and the e3d will prob be out of production (The 4g already is).

I was thnking of getting the e3d on craigslist, amazon, ebay etc. since its a fraction of the retail price.

Yes price is an issue. I don't have $450-$500 right now.

I had a lot of issues with my e3d that always forced me back to EVO.
If you can get a good one, really cheap go for it. Make sure if you do local CL check digitizer really well to make sure it responds correctly. Went through 3 on my 3d. Otherwise, I would wait for the LTE.

Im probably not willing to go over 100, since its not worth it any higher.

I have the Evo4g and the Evo 3d. 4g is my "pda" and the 3d is my "phone.". Newts rom doesn't have 4g working, nor does it do 3D. Other than that, it's great. I need 4g to work so I use MeanRom ICS on the 3d. Everything works, 'cept it's Sense 3.6.
The 3d is a pretty fast piece of hardware.
