from the fascinate to inc2 - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

hey guys, will getting an inc2 as a replacement for my fascinate today and i know a lot of former i500 users have already gotten one or are, so it will be nice to see some familiar faces
also nice to rejoin the htc community after being on samsung for awhile

Awesome news. Mine shows up today. Good to see a familiar dev on board.

Hi familiar face I'm super pumped you decided to go with the Dinc2. Always enjoyed Com Rom

In fact, mine just got here. It is a refurb and not a new phone, which they said it would be. However they sent me a $50 extended battery and no regular battery.

Switching to Inc2 from fascinate as well...
First time I have ever prayed for froyo over gb when a new phone was in the mail haha.

The theme machine has arrived....let the fun begin! Glad to see you again justin!
Sent from my Dinc2.

Nice to see you here!

My Gratitude and Thanks

I know that this doesnt exactly belong here but I have pretty much lived only in the section for the last year or so. I passed the Dinc torch to my daughters greedy little hands and purchased the Bolt. This message is to say thank you... and I mean THANK YOU to all the Devs and people that have helped me with this phone and learning how to pimp the crap out of it. The amount of talent that is in this community and the willingness to help others just amazes me.
Thanks again guys
ps... I told my daughter as soon as she is eligible for a upgrade I want the Dinc back. lol. I mean it is a bad ass little phone...
Couldn't agree more. I'm here pretty much daily also.

When my upgrade comes, my dinc will maybe retire buts its a toss up..ive been to this site almost everyday for the last year...I always thought the iPhone was the **** for having the ability to be jailbroken but all this by far surpassed that...! How is the tbolt?

I know right. What a great community and fantastic developers.
I'm going to be sad when it is time to upgrade. I haven't seen any new Verizon phones with the same kind of community and amount of support yet.
Agreed. Im gonna hate upgrading when the time comes but hopefully all of you guys will be around . We should band together and upgrade concurrently. Just please don't make me get a tbolt. No battery life, ugh

Its a awesome community for sure. But dont be to quick to judge the bolt. I was kinda the same way but since Ive rooted a couple days ago and slapped on BAMF Remix my battery life has been pretty dam good. And I dont turn off the 4g. If you really want it to last turn it off. Its only used when your surfing, dling or streaming anyway. Im very pleased. But again thanks for all the help guys.
Totally feelin' you bro. This place is ill fo sho. I'm up in here all day searching for updates on what the hell ever. XDA FTW.
I'm keeping my dinc til it breaks. Then moving over to my spare dinc. I'm dinc for life. And on here everyday. Searching and reading up on themes and such..

I have had my Inc since the day it came out. I remember asking to pre-order it, and getting looked at weird as if I made up the name or was plain high. Looking back I am still amazed at how secret the phone was. It barely got publicity.
My Inc has been through at least 10 different ROMs, all sorts of kernels, and the occasional boot loop (my fault of course). I am with everyone here. You devs are amazing! It is all of you and your close knit community that makes it difficult to even think of ditching my phone. I am thinking Droid Bionic, but maybe I will hang onto my Inc just in case someone figures out how to get sense 3.0 and honeycomb to be fully functional on it, and knowing some devs here, probably get 4G running on the thing
I've had my incredible since december after trading it for the droid 2(rooted was little scared of doing so but i did with z4root) and i didnt really see the point of rooting it and i didnt use wireless tether so i unrooted. I thought moto blur was ugly to and felt that htc sense was so much faster and smoother and aestheticly appealing than blur that i decided to trade it for the incredible. Had my incredible for a week and decided to root it ( i was little scared but in the end i rooted it). Flashed A custom rom and fell in love. Around March i got interested in theming and made my own stock theme for warm z and then around april i got interested in getting uber z backup and running and i did that to and now im deving for it. The DINC has taught me so have the devs and today i learned a lot aswell trying to get the app drawer transparent took me 24 hours of trial and error. This is a great device and unless it breaks beyond belief im not upgrading. Flashed all the roms available on every forum not just xda on this bad boy.Thats basically my story with the inc lol

[Q] I'm getting that feeling again.

This is NOT a Thread that I'm selling my Epic in, I need help deciding whether to keep my Epic or not. I want to change my Epic for an Evo 4G/BlackBerry. I like it and all, but the Epic just doesn't have enough development. I'd have to either get the Evo and Flash my phone EVERYday like I used to with my G1, or get a BlackBerry Bold 9650 and not Flash it at all. the Evo is a nice phone, it has all features working on CM7 which is a big plus for me, it's always up-to-date with MIUI, and was the phone I was going to get first, but it was sold out and I was impatient and I obviously regret it. Or, I could get a BlackBerry. Their much more simple and would meet my standards, but I'm afraid of Android-Withdrawal, but I could take it to OS6 and that looks cool.
So, what does everyone here think. Should I keep the Epic, let the price go down with more use, and wait to see what happens? Should I trade it in and get some cash and buy an Evo in order to fill my flashing addictions? Or should I sell it and buy a BlackBerry Tour2 9650 so that I can't Flash anymore, but have a pretty good phone? And the final option, should I just keep my Epic 4G, and live with it, and hope for the best?
Drop the epic and get an EVO lots of Rome to flash . Unless u Want to wait till September for the gingerbread update . Then the flashing begins for epic.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Keep the epic...CM7 will be out when official gingerbread in released!
I don't know man. September is a few months away, and that IF we get GingerBread then. And even though, we'll have CM7 ROMs from 3 different developers, a few AOSP from a few different developers, and maybe 2 MIUI ROMs. I wonder if we'll ever have Sense or a Port of maybe the Droid3? Or LG Optimus 2X? I don't think we have enough people.
Someone is already working on a sense port, the same dev that's working on miui. And we have a cm7 alpha 4. We need gingerbread source code to help move us along.

I came from a BB bold 9700. I did some beta testing for OS 6 on it. It was very nice but that is all the tinkering you could do with it was put a leak version of the OS or beta test. So I would say you have already commented on "flash withdrawal" so BB will be nice for about a month then you will be bored with it. One of the reasons I got the Epic was because of the keyboard coming from a BB and the screen size. My other options were the Intercept (which my son has) or the Shift but again the screen sold me on the Epic. I didn't even look to root or custom ROMS for at least 2 months after I bought it. But once you start it is hard to go back.
Hi my name is John and I am a flashaholic...LOL
Look up the ORD Thread in the Off-Topic. That's us. That Thread was my idea btw.
And I guess I'll stay. I guessssss...
Sounds like you've already made up your mind and are just looking for someone to talk you out of it... I carry a crackberry and my epic. The crackberry is free and I can do what I want with it, but I still keep an android that costs me ~40 bux a month and has horrific cell coverage most of the time just because it's an Android and the berry sucks for anything other than email.
I don't know much about the Evo other than it's large development base, crappy screen and lack of keyboard. If flashing a new ROM everyday is your goal, then get the Evo and live with the lackluster video performance and on screen keyboards.
If the only reason you're ditching the Epic is due to lack of development, then develop something...
I forgot to mention that the Epic's keyboard sucks and I barley use it. If at all. And I can't develop. My friends will think differently of me. Lol jk, I'm too lazy and I don't have the time. All these devs are high ballers. I wouldn't compare. They wouldn't take me as seriously.

I mean sure EvO has more roms but how many do you really need. My sister has an EVO and I read thru the EVO section and concluded only 4-5 roms are actually worth trying Synergy-Kingdom, MIkG, MIUI, CM7 or Gingerdeck and thats about it...The last three we will hopefully get once GB is released.

Hi John!
There totally should be an AFA (Android flashers Anon) cause I'd be in it.
I've only had the Epic for a couple months, but I wouldn't trade it for any of the other phones available for Sprint right now. It's fast, great hardware, and has a full keyboard. I use a handful of other devices for work, and my Epic is the best by far. (my Galaxy Tab is a close 2nd) It feels weird not having some new rom/customization come out every couple weeks or days on the Epic, but I've adapted to a slower dev cycle that I was used to. And honestly, the only thing keeping me from running one of the GB leaks is the lack of a custom kernel to fix the hw keyboard lag. So until there's something that feels and works as good or better than my Epic, I'll be hanging on to it for dear life..
No offense but hopefully sucks.....especially if u upgrade yearly.....the good thing I learned my lesson and not going through that again.
But again that's just me.

Fascinate to DInc2-good idea?

So here's my story. I have the fascinate now, got it when it came out & have another year to go to upgrade. The froyo update has created pretty significant missed call issues that vzw is addressing by offering a switch to the DInc2 or the X2. My wife has the Dinc1 & I had the eris before so I'm familiar with sense ui. How does this phone compare to them or to the X2? I'm looking for input before I make my choice.

I cannot speak for the DX2, but I for one love my DInc2. It's the perfect size, and has the perfect feel for the hand. The processor is lightning quick; keep in mind that this is the next generation Snapdragon. Even though it's not Dual Core, it's still really fast!
You get a great camera, still a good screen, and a front facing camera which you do not have on the DX2. The DX2 has a qHD display, but from what I've heard, and this is hearsay and opinion, it's not that great. I don't like Blur, and I came from a Stock Android OG Droid, so Sense was the better choice for me.
Battery life isn't the best I've seen, but it's also not the worst. Depends on usage, but I can get through most of the day with it. Gingerbread helps here, and also makes the phone even faster than it was with Froyo. I would recommend the DInc2. Good luck!
i came from the fascinate, as did my wife, and i can tell you we're absolutely happy with the dinc2. i'm on CM7 nightly, she's running gingersense (she doesn't know that, she thinks she's full stock. shhhh.) it's so much better than the fascinate in every way.
if you liked the fascinate's screen, then the DX2 won't be good enough. the incredible 2's screen is pretty comparable.
Bro as much as I loved my fascinate, I had the same issues with missed calls. Took 3 replacements to finally get offered something else. Dinc2 or the x2. I'm not a fan of the x's so I chose the dinc 2. This phone literally ****s on the fassy. I have not experienced any bugs. Now that it's rootable it's even more beast. The screen isn't super amoled . But, it looks great. The difference in screens really seems to be black. It looked better on the fassy but every other color looks better on dinc 2
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
I'm in the same boat as everyone here....I had the fassy and couldn't handle the missed calls so when I called it was this or the droid x (not x2) for free or I could upgrade early and sign a new 2yr contact. which I thought about cuz I too have a yr left on my current contact. (really thought I wanted the droid charge) I have never been happier that I picked the inc 2.
When I first started looking into the support for this phone I thought I made a mistake as it seemed like there was none and as you know the fascinate community was full of ppl and devs. But now that we have root this is by far the best phone out (imo) and has plenty of amazing devs who have really brought out its potentially.

My wife has the fassy an I have the dinc2. nothing an no rom can fix the fassy. Its a awesome screen but its terrible other than that. I'm trying to get her on a dinc2.

Wish I could've seen that where I live but every dinc2 I saw at the vzw stores had the same -dbm (or close) as my fascinate showing only 2 bars. Should I trade my DINC + $20 for a Fascinate?

I've been given the opportunity to trade my incredible + $20 for a fascinate. Should I do it?
I am kinda really attached to my phone and I can get an upgrade as early as April anyway. I know the fascinate has a pretty darn good build of ICS working on it which is the only reason I'm considering it.
Like I said, I love this phone and am apprehensive to trade it for something else. ICS would be nice, but I'm not sure how many quirks the build has.
Any thoughts? The deal would take place on Friday so I dont have much time to sit and think.

Bigger screen... HELL YEAH
Less ram hell no.
-My life is a shooting range, people never change-
After Samsung's antennagate debacle with the first line of Galaxy S phones, you shouldn't waste your time with the Fascinate. I know it's been "fixed" but that was piss poor handling by Samsung.
No..........
I wouldn't take a fascinate for free. I know to many people with Samsung phones that just have problem after problem. No network connection. My mothers Infuse just turns off randomly. A woman I work next to hers drops 4G to no connection I've pulled her simcard/battery at least 3 times recently. My brother has a NS4g he was telling my yesterday he had no network connection or was dropped to 1x. Battery pull once again. A kid a used to work with had a galaxy S 1 random reboots and just stop charging. Another girl I work with also has a galaxy S 1 ive never seen a phone go into safe mode before. Battery pull. The main reason I passed on the GNexus is because it was made by Samsung.
Long story short NO

Of course you are asking a bunch of dINC owners
still I think the dINC is more future proof (even considering how old it is) than the Fascinate.
Yeah I've decided I'm not going to do it. The GPU is worlds better on the fascinate, but with an upgrade right around the corner and me being completely satisfied with this phone (heck I may wait even longer) I'm just gonna stick around. If the fascinate had 4G then it might have been a done deal.
Again thanks all for the feedback!

I went from the Dinc to the Fascinate. Keep the Dinc. The only thing that the Fascinate has on the Dinc is the bigger screen and a better DAC.
I personally bought the DINC because it was the smallest smartphone available. Sadly, it still is one of a kind in that department. I would try out the ICS build. I am using it now. It's quite stable and will make you feel like you have a new phone even though you have a two year old one.

I have tried out the ICS build and I'm not very satisfied with it. I am hugely picky about the smoothness and responsiveness of my phone rom and ICS on the inc isn't quite there yet due to the graphics drivers not supporting the GPU acceleration properly. I'll give it another shot if that ever gets fixed. That was the main draw of the fascinate to me, same gpu as the gnexus, same smoothness of the gnexus.
Sent from my Droid Incredible using the XDA app.
Just my opinion, I would never trade a phone you are happy with for anyone's phone unless it was a large upgrade and you were sure you could return it. Many phones have minor annoyances which would make you regret it even if the phone was a minor upgrade. I run miui v4 and despite the things not yet worked out, it is still excellent.

Without a doubt go for it...Just saw your first post maybe you decided already...I've had my fascinate for a year now and the last three months of ics builds have been great. I've used both the teamhacksung and the gummy builds (which I'm running now).
Both builds have been for the most part stable from what I've experienced.
My buddy has two DINC's at the moment with one running MIUI, I wouldn't trade my shattered LCD stylin' fascinate for it...I soft bricked my fassy for two weeks before I got the time to read up enough and restore it, then I dropped it flush, face down on concrete that same exact day...
so yeah take the i500 or sure...save your upgrade if you want
I have a special place in my heart for the Fascinate, but the GPS problem was painful to deal with, no matter how many gpsfix.zip's people put out.

I'm really liking liquid smooth, it's really slimmed down (I think less than 100mb img) and has every option I want. Rock solid stability and of course... Smooth
Really a good choice, in my humble opinion, it is one of the best devices in the market by far.
Great specs, great screen, great support from Google and XDA...
I just love Galaxy Nexus, it is sooo liquid smooth and crystal clear 720p
rasbean ftw ! and gnex off course !
Only major drawback i find on thisphone is that (at least the GSM version) doesn't have a lot of variety of roms. Most of the work being done lately is AOSP based, so all the rom look alike. In my case, i usually like to change things and try fresh, new & different stuff. I have like 3 weeks using the same rom. I kind of miss the old "ported" stuff. Thats just me thought. About the device, i bought like two months ago, and i couldn't be happier. Granted, its not as fast a GS3 or a N4 (or a HTC OX) but its still pretty decent. Welcome aboard dude!

The irony here is slightly humorous. People on other phones would kill to be on the latest Android version, plus stock Android, and you want to get off of it for variety? Not trying to be an ass, just kind of made me chuckle.
Me too!
Woo Woo!
I ordered a Gnex GSM as well yesterday. It was between the One X and Gnex, but given how much cheaper the Gnex was ($100 less) I had to go with it. It really does look like there are tons of support for this year+ old phone...plenty of roms to choose from as well.
Coming from a HTC myTouch 4G I think I will love the upgrade. Got really tired of waiting for the Nexus 4 and now I have a new toy to play with until there are more Nexus 4s available.
Great feedback guys, thanks for sharing. Really looking forward to this thing, now to just find the best case and accessories. My Thunderbolt seemed to be a bit finnicky when it came to chorded headsets, anyone know if the GNex has the same issues or do most seem to work?
Congratulations.
I, too, am awaiting delivery of my refurbed GNex. Should be here on Friday (2 more days).
While, on one hand, I think, "It's a year old model;" in reality, it is over a year newer than my HTC Thunderbolt. Since I am still tied to Verizon until late July, I figure this will let me enjoy the last six months of my contract, and more, without having to sell myself to VZW for another two years.
I have been mulling the concept of going to TMobile with the Nexus 5, whenever that comes out.
After more than a year with no development on the Thunderbolt, I am looking forward to CM 10.1 on my phone, as it is on my tablet.

Funny thing is I have a HTC one x. And I bought a gnex to play games on and such and for music. Got it for a steal at 40 bucks. Has a small crack though. But barely noticeable

Was really torn between this and a GS3 but budgets left me with a refurbished Nex (VZN) for $220, seemed like a no brainer. Set this forum as a favorite and will be catching up soon but any quick tips for rooting and best rooms are appreciated.

The irony here is slightly humorous. People on other phones would kill to be on the latest Android version, plus stock Android, and you want to get off of it for variety? Not trying to be an ass, just kind of made me chuckle.

Yeah. Maybe its just 4.2 that have quite some bugs. But still, i like to change the look of my phone, i get tired of looking at the same menus and places all the time.
Congrats! I got mine for free last month and LOVE it. Best phone I've ever had.
